I brought a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox to the shop on April 3, 2026 for diagnostic and repair of a check engine light, catalytic converter-related codes, and a loud exhaust noise. shop diagnosed the issue/codes and performed repairs including installation of a universal catalytic converter, muffler repair, and one tire replacement, for which I paid approximately $822. They told me that something did cause the Cat to go bad & recommended a Tune Up. So I got that done. I returned on April 11, 2026 after experiencing what felt like my tire getting ready to fall off/wobbly- despite the shop performing suspension-related repairs including front lower control arms, two additional used tires, tire rotations & an alignment- less than a week later I continue to experience the same unsafe driving conditions, including sensations that the wheel is unstable or may detach. This indicates that the repairs were either improperly performed or failed to resolve the issue they were intended to fix. The shop performed additional repairs on April 12-13, 2026, including installation of a pre-catalytic converter, suspension components, ignition coils, and spark plugs (tube up), based on THE SHOPS recommendation that underlying issues were causing catalytic converter failure. I paid additional costs for these repairs im the amount if $1944. Within days of these repairs, the check engine light returned. Upon returning the vehicle, the shop then identified a cracked exhaust manifold and informed me that the BRAND NEE installed catalytic converters were already damaged or "burnt out," and would need to be replaced again. the shop failed to properly diagnose and identify the cracked manifold and underlying cause prior to performing extensive and costly repairs, resulting in unnecessary repairs and continued mechanical failure. I have since taken my car to two other mechanics who have given their expertise & have both agreed that the work done by this shop was not done completely as well as that I would have to get most of the work done AGAIN. Been going to the Subaru dealer for years and every time I go, I end up spending a hefty bill on their "required" additional work. I even saw in the recommended work, "customer required..." which I know nothing about cars so how I asked them to do something is beyond me! I decided to test if this work really needed to be done! The people at MC Muffler checked all what Subaru required and basically told me that it wasn't required. They could have easily just said yes it's needed, done the work and charged me but they chose to be honest, where do you get that these days? The work was done quickly and efficiently and at a 1/4 of the price Subaru were charging. Great to know that these guys are trustworthy and I will give them all my business from now on! We got a flat tire on the way home with all of our kiddos in the van. We pulled off the road and thank God this place was right there! We pulled in and saw the open sign on and was relieved. The first guy was shooing us away and closing up shop but a couple of older gentlemen came out and agreed to help us and replace our tire- so thankful for that! However the service is slow and over priced I paid 700$ for something not nearly worth that and had to get it changed immediately after because it sounded so bad. I highly recommend aces performance! I was in Houston for the weekend and had all four cats cut from my Tundra in the hotel parking lot. I needed a repair on Sunday and these guys came through for me. They had the converters and were able to get the 02 sensors delivered on a Sunday morning to get me on the road in a few hours. The work looked great, with solid welds on everything and they charged a fair price for the parts, and work. The owner went above and beyond to help me out, I highly recommend this shop. read more

this company is a major joke. the owner hakeem is a major joke as well. he is also a tax fraud no good sucker. he start off trying to be right to get your money and then after that he changes. he doesn't want to honor his warranty on the work. he puts messed up parts on your vehicle. he changes the original part and trys to build one of his own and it doesn't work right. then he doesn't want to stand by his work. he is one sorry so call business man. after going back to his shop multiple times to have them to correct their failures he then told his worker to change that one out. it still is not working right. so i went back over for him to check it out again and that's when he is telling me. there is no more warranty on the part nor his work. he said the warranty was for one year and the year is up in october 2024. today is july 2024. don't take your vehicle to this sorry no good place. all hakeem do is talk loud and try to over talk you. i had to raise my voice to get his attention and that it did. on my original paperwork it states the one year warranty. when i went back this month in july 2024. that's when he gave me another copy of the receipt talking about no more warranty and he had wrote that statement on that receipt. hakeem is full of it and needs to be shut down for good. he is a major, major rip off to customers. when i finish he most likely will be shut down for good. this was my first time dealing with this company. if i had known how sorry it was and the big rip off of hakeem. i never would have gone to this company. the car has not ran the same since they worked on it. so please don't waste your time going to this very sorry unprofessional place (medical center muffler and brakes). i called multiple times and the girl working the desk would say that hakeem is not in. i drove up there a few minutes later and he was in the office. so he would tell her to lie for him. the other words that i would like touse and say about this sorry person, i won't say them. i'll keep it clean. i'll end with this. don't never ever use or go to this place....it's very very very very very very very very very sorry! this is one very very very very very very very very very unhappy customer. nettie g. read more

Always make friends or at least make acquaintances with as many mechanics as you can. Trust me, you'll need them in the future. They say the only thing sure in life is death and taxes but I would like to add to that: car failure. I haven't meant one person who owned a vehicle that ran forever! Hakim is a good guy. I came to him two years ago when my Land Rover Discovery started giving me problems. What used to be a very reliable car turned into a money pit as soon as I moved here. Maybe it was the heat or long commutes to work... Anyway, I came here at first because it was the closet to my apartment building on Fannin Street. There were endless amounts of times Hakim could have screwed me and he didn't. One time my car was running really rough and it was because I didn't re-attach a small hose when I changed my air filter. He could have said it was something really complex and charged me several hounded dollars. Instead, he put a new hose on and charged me $5. I'll always remember that. I have a new car now so I don't come here frequently like I used to. Today, I just needed a car inspection. I'd been putting it off for a while and wanted to get it done before everything was closed for the Thanksgiving holidays. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes. While I was waiting, the front desk guy told me about some good Middle Eastern restaurants I should try, one in Montrose and one off Hillcroft. I always wanted to be a mechanic and tried for a couple months at my best friend's father shop one summer. I love tinkering with things but don't have an extreme eye for detail. Alas...a dream unfulfilled. But I can say that these guys are legit in my book and from past experience, I'd give them my vote of trust. read more

I came here years ago when I had a used care and needed a catalytic converter. They were fast and efficient. I went here back in February because the parking lot at Houston Wine Merchant on S Shepherd tore the protective cover off the bottom of my new car. They reattached it for like $20. They are all about business not like some places you go to where it takes forever to find out what's wrong with your car. They wont leave you stewing. I like that. A lot. read more

Don't ever go there.....different mechanics work on your car and when you come back they don't want too fix it...The little guy does not know anything that's why he fast talks and let you talk and explain I had parts put on both sides by different mechanics. Took my 97 Toyota 4 Runner in to Mike Calvert to replace the Catalytic converter. They wanted $3000. Took it to Medical Center Muffler, they charged $400. Yeah I highly recommend this place. In and out in a day and the 4 Runner is running great!!! read more

Not sure why this place only gets 3 stars on average. I just got part of the exhaust system of my car replaced plus an inspection, and it was a very reasonable price overall! I had previously taken my car to another shop where they had given me a way higher quote (like 3 to 4 times higher) and tried to get me to believe that my car needed more work (not realizing that my dad who was also there knows way more about cars than they do and can tell what is bullshit). When I brought my car to med center muffler they showed my husband the parts that need to be fixed and we knew they weren't trying to get us to spend any more money than necessary and we knew they weren't lying about what needs to get done. I appreciated the honesty. Plus the cost came out to only about 10 bucks more than they had originally told me, which I am more than ok with. I will update this review of course if what they fixed breaks down or if I have any issues, but so far I'd give these guys 5 stars for the very reasonable price and for not trying to get me to change parts that are perfectly fine, like many other car shops try to get you to do.
