Communication with Jesus and Joanne was very easy! At a time that is extremely stressful (planning the event, entertaining 50 guests, with a pregnant wife (baby was born the FOLLOWING day), Jesus and team took all that stress away! There were some extra food and beverages, and Jesus let me take containers/utensils home so I can transfer to Tupperware and allowed me to return them when I had time. I returned what I borrowed a week later, and shared pictures of the new baby girl, and Jesus shared his story about family... life! (Event was Feb 20,.. baby born Feb 21)! Medina's Catering, I just want to say thank you to all the staffs during food catering events. I keep seeing you folks at public events and the food service is great. An an outdoor public event, I remembered watching employees cook up meats at the outdoor BBQ grills. Everyone is passionate about their jobs. At indoor events, attendees do appreciate your food service as well. Loved all the tacos I had today (chicken, beef, pork). I enjoyed adding my own onions, parsleys, and sauces to my lunch tacos as desired. Everyone is always helpful and friendly. Setup is clean and organized. I recently got to try out Medina's Catering for an event featuring their tacos. The food was pretty good. They provided a variety of fish, chicken, and beef meats for the tacos. All were tasty and well-seasoned. Not dry or anything like that. The only con I have is that even though our event paid for a larger headcount (under 100 people), Medina's only allocated that to mean 3 small tacos per person. That wasn't quite enough given that people were hungry and could have easily eaten 5-6 tacos each. Overall, I recommend the tacos. Medina's Catering saved our garden party. Our initial vendor cancelled on us the day before our event and Medina's Catering stepped in last minute and provided on-site taco catering. The food was very good. The staff were very friendly. They even set up a nice table for a decorated condiments bar. The only thing I would say is that we asked for more carne asada rather than chicken and chorizo, but I think they divided everything evenly so ended up with more chorizo. For my daughter's bridal shower we chose the American Buffett, the chicken cordon bleu, the top sirloin with rosemary, the rice pilaf, the mashed potatoes, the pear pecan salad, and the bread. All the food looked amazing, was very well presented. Everyone tried a little bit of everything because it looked amazing. The price was great for all the food that we received. The chicken cordon bleu was the best I have had from all the parties I have gone where this dish is served. My sister said she loved the mashed potatoes, and yes they were very good. I enjoyed it all. Our family likes beef to be well done. The top sirloin was well done but very tasty and juicy, plus it comes in a thick brown sauce that makes the beef juicy. I would not recommend utilizing Medina Catering - the service is received was very poor and my experience was extremely stressful (which is sad as the food was quite good). My family had contracted with them to do the catering for my son's birthday. On the day of the party - they did not arrive at the expected time nor did they reach out to us to share that they were going to be late. We called and even attempted to email them - when I finally got a hold of someone he hung up on me. To be fair, he did say he couldn't talk because he was at another event but I simply asked him if he could share the name and contact of the servers / workers who were intended to be at my party - he refused and hung up. They arrived 1.5 hours late, still after no contact, but by that time I had to run out and purchase appetizers to feed my 25 guests. Once arrived there were additional problems: 1) They promised that two servers would be there to help - only one arrived. 2) The food was is chafing dishes however the server did not have any sterno warmers to keep the food from getting cold. It was really unfortunate because the food was quite good. 3) The promised to include churros (as such I reduced the amount of desserts I purchased) but there were no churros avaliable. All in all - this was a stressful and frustrating experience and I think one star is an accurate rating. read more

If I could zero stars I would. Unfortunately I wasn't able to use Medina's Catering Service as he made it clear to me that he doesn't want to service my party and hung up on me without explaining why. I was trying to get a hold of him for the past 2 weeks for a quote on a party that I will be hosting in October. When I finally did get a hold of him he asked me what date I was looking for, I told him the date and he told me not to call him back and said he doesn't want to service me and then hung up the phone. Without knowing what I did wrong to have this happen, he made it perfectly clear to not call him. Very unprofessional person and he never gave me a reason why he didn't want to help me. It's unfortunate to not use his catering company as he was recommended by a few people. READ ME!! We decided to go with Medina's Catering because we saw that they had good reviews and were top-rated in the bay area. Oh boy, we were wrong as we had such a horrible experience dealing with them. We had a decent experience with Jesus (the owner) whenever we were able to deal with him but he's always so busy and he would have us working with Joanna. I feel like she's the culprit of the issue and has a power trip. There isn't any structure, a lot of disconnect between Jesus and Joanna, not professional, terrible at getting back to you, and has a really bad follow through. Whenever she says she'll get back to you tomorrow it'll be at least a few days to over a week before you hear from her. It was literally pulling teeth trying to schedule/confirm for a food tasting, getting our contract, or getting any questions answered. Joanna isn't too knowledgeable, nor professional, and lacks class. Not sure if she's Jesus's daughter or a family member but she's making him look bad and lose a lot of business. If we had such an awful experience like this, I'm sure many others would have experienced the same. If it wasn't for our wedding needing multiple cuisines/caterers and they were willing to hire additional servers for us to man the other food, we would've gone with a different caterer. THEN literally 2 days before our wedding Jesus and Joanna told us the servers we hired from them aren't going to do what Jesus originally said they were going to do. Originally, we told Jesus we need these servers to handle the other food since we have 2 caterers, such as setup/breakdown, serving the food, bussing, filling water, cutting cake, etc. What a normal server is supposed to do. Joanna and Jesus then said these 4 servers we hired from them for 5 hours will only setup/breakdown, and serve food from the buffet line. Does it really take 5 hours to do all that??? Anyways, we spoke with a few other companies while looking for new servers and they all said servers are supposed to setup/breakdown, serve the food, bussing, filling water, cutting cake, etc. Joanna was super immature and unprofessional AND was yelling over my husband...my coordinator had to step in to mediate. We ended up canceling the servers from medina and they only gave us back $1,000 for the servers. BUT the tax and gratuity remain the same from the original total. I feel like we're pretty good tippers but man their service didn't justify us paying over $700 in gratuity. As we go back and read the other reviews more in-depth and I guess this happened to numerous clients in the past. And what do you know, it's Joanna yet again, the culprit. We were a little nervous about them possibly not showing up to our event as well since we read that they previously did that to a different client. They do have good food but man I don't think it was worth all the drama, headache, stress, and anxiety. Medina's Catering was a real life saver! I had an important event for 60 people and had to make a last minute catering change due to an unreliable other vendor. Joanna was very patient with me as I melted down about the stress of having to find a new caterer last minute the night before and prepared a quote that was both a large spread and at a great price. We had everything squared away quickly too! The team that came to set up our taco bar were so nice and polite and attentive (and arrived with plenty of time to set up before the party started). The team of on-site workers were all smiles, courteous and very pleasant. We've had Medina's 4-times now and they are PERFECT. They put it all together--aside from the delicious food, the team set up all tables, chairs, tents, decorations, plates, cutlery, napkins, drinks and take it all down so the client doesn't have to do a darn thing other than hand them a check and say--"wow, the food is super good" and "thank you so much for being great people". This is long overdue but PLEASE READ because it will save you the TIME, MONEY, and STRESS. We booked Medina's as our caterer in 2020 for our wedding that summer. We signed the contract, paid the security deposit, and even went in for a tasting in their San Jose office. First impression was good and aligned with the customer reviews on yelp. We felt like we secured our catering company Fast forward two years.....Unfortunately due to Covid we pushed had to push out our wedding like many others to July 2022 coming up. As we were slowly reaching out to our vendors last winter, I noticed that Medina's Catering completely changed from the poor customer service and zero effort to wanting any business. It was so bad my gut feeling immediately told me that I had to switch vendors since this was for our wedding. Post Covid, the new coordinator Joanna was completely clueless....my guess is that it was Jesus's daughter or close family/friend helping out. It literally felt like I was talking to a high school teen that was in school full time and not wanting to do anything with helping the business get back on its feet You call their number, no one ever picks up. You have to email them numerous times before you get a response and they promise a follow up phone call, email, or get back to us with our questions. But days pass by waiting for a call or email..and I noticed new post/stories on instagram advertising they are back in business to do events and to reach out to them....like WOW.. It was just shocking to see that this company rather put in the effort of attempting to be a social media presence with a few back to back posts rather than providing business to already paid customers. Funny b/c after a few days of posts (in 2021) the postings and ads stopped (check for yourself "medinas.catering")...which displays core values when trying to do business "just stop half way, and dont follow through" I had Jesus's (Business Owner) personal phone and he picked up saying they will get back to me. Everytime I got nothing....at this point I realized I was putting in way too much time and effort as the customer trying to just get a hold of them. All in all, I couldn't even get my security deposit back because all communication stopped. Then when I looked at the recent bad reviews....i knew i wasnt the only party that was dealing with this. My best guess is that Covid really hit this small family business that was once great but lacked resources and willingness to ramp back up with the same level of quality service. This is just an honest review and my experience with this caterer. Sure if Its for a small party of 20 to drop off food then hire them, if they get back to you and if you want to throw the dice. But for special events like a wedding, birthdays, corporate events Dont even risk it because it is not worth it when it is your big event and you have tons of other things on your mind. There are plenty of other bay area taco vendors with better pricing, menu options, transparency of quality and huge volumes of business/events in IG that can also provide great communication same day with all the questions, quotes, and overall professionalism. We ultimately took the loss of our security deposit and hired Dia De Los Tacos (check them out for taco catering) and couldnt be happier. I love the service! Had to do a catering for an event for my office and with the amount of food they provided was awesome. I loved the communication throughout the entire process. I asked if there were vegetarian options and they offered at least 5-10 servings on the side. They didn't want one of the meats to go to waste. But I shared with them there still had to be an option just for 1 person so I had to take the soy chorizo. (He was right no one touched that option) I think they knew my frustration with that. Mr. Medina did a wonderful job for me at my Kaiser Wellness Festival that I was in charge of that fed 3,800 people that was free for our employees and their families. We were unsure of the exact amount of people so we had to increase our order a few times but Mr. Medina and his office staff Mary and Jenny were always very accommodating and responsive. This was the first year we had changed our caterer in years and Mr. Medina was very understanding and invited me and my colleague to one of his other events at a hospital to check it out and also let us do a taste testing for our leadership and won them over with his delicious food and beautiful set-up. Mr. Medina did a walk-thru with me to ensure that the space we provided him would work for the amount of people we were anticipating prior to our event. During the event his staff was very professional and friendly. Working with Mr. Medina and Medina's catering was very easy they brought their own tents and signage for their food. If I were to rate this company on their food and their chefs, they would get 4 stars. This one star rating is for the person I dealt with over the phone on the day of my event - Joanna. We used Medina's catering twice. The first time was amazing. I had no complaints. The second time, the particular chefs they sent could not get their equipment through our side yard easily since we have rocks. I know that when making the reservation they asked if there would be any difficulty getting their equipment set up due to uneven pavement, tight quarters, etc. We said no, since the first time they were at this same venue they had no issues! The chefs call Joanna, who then calls me and says that the chefs are going to have to take the wheels off their grill and carry it in and that we would be liable for damages and charged an extra fee for the hassle. I was livid and let her know that they had no trouble the first time they were at my house; they had gotten through just fine. She was very rude over the phone and did not try to problem solve the situation in any way. She then THREATENS to pull the chefs from my event. This was 1 hour before it was supposed to begin. My event was a while ago, but I'm writing this review because since then I've had multiple people ask me who I used for my party and I can't ever fully recommend this company if Joanna is the one they have to deal with. Customer service is important and everyone that deals with customers represents the company. If you end up booking Medina's Catering, I highly suggest you request to communicate with someone other than Joanna. The food and chefs were amazing both times they came to my home. Their team is really professional and friendly, and basically handled everything for me to my exact specifications for a company-sponsored event. I've been throwing a White Elephant party for 14 years. I decided to try Medina's catering after my prior caterer was acting a bit shady. Medina's catering was very professional from the start. I emailed them for a quote for 30 people (which I later changed to 50 people) and he sent over the contract right away. We confirmed the time he was to arrive (45 minutes prior to party start time) and they arrived promptly. They set up in the atrium of my clubhouse outside and was basically their own stand alone shop outside. They brought everything: cups, plates, utensils, napkins.. I didn't have to worry about a thing! They started cooking immediately so the meat was hot and fresh (not pre-made). Normally, we would have the food inside but they had everything set up outside, down to the condiments and horchata. We ordered the chicken, carnitas and beef but something got mixed up and we ended up with pork, carnitas and beef. This review is long overdue! My family has had Medina's cater 2 of our parties (both about 50-80 people) within the past year. Both of the parties were in the back yard of 2 different houses, located in Fremont. From start to finish, Jesus was very easy to work with and at a reasonable price. The food was fresh, nicely presented, and all of the meat and vegetables were cooked on site. It had rained in the morning of one of the parties; and although, it did not rain during the time of the party, Medina's was ready with a pop-up awning/tent. We received numerous compliments on the food and service. When the party was over, Medina's wrapped up all of the leftover food and cleaned everything up, as if they were never there. I booked Medina's catering to cook onsite for our office lunch with about 50 employees for Cinco De Mayo. I worked with Joanna, the owner's daughter, mostly via email to create a menu, book our date and time, and pay our deposit. All was very smooth, and communication was excellent. I confirmed with Joanna the week before as well as the day before that they would arrive by 11am at the latest to set up and begin cooking for the arrival of our guests at 12pm. She assured me that they would be there on time and relayed the importance of punctuality to the team because this is an office event, and our attendees only had a limited time to enjoy their lunch. However, the day of the event arrives, and an event planner's worst nightmare has come to pass. They did not show up at all. I called Joanna multiple times between 11-11:45am with zero troubles communicating. I called at 11, she said that they would be there any minute. Great! 11:15 rolls around and still no one. Call again and asked her for the number of the caterers that were to be on site and Joanna tells me that she doesn't know who is supposed to be at our event and that she would find out and call me back. Never did. 11:30, I call her again and she tells me that she just spoke with the team, and they should be there any moment. 11:45 still no one, so I call Joanna AGAIN and she claims to not hear me, hangs up and never answers my calls again. I must have called her 10 times after that from my phone and then asked my colleague who has a completely different cell service carrier to try calling. No answer. She then texts me saying that my phone keeps going to voicemail (not true) and gives me a new number for Jesus, the owner, saying she "was busy" at another event. Jesus doesn't answer my calls or text message. I had several people from several phones try calling and no answer from both numbers. At this point, I give up and explain to everyone that our caterers never showed and are now ignoring my calls. We had to order food from a nearby restaurant and eat almost an hour later than the originally planned time. It is now 1pm and I receive a call from Stephanie, the owner's other daughter, apologizing for the caterers being late and that they had been trying to contact me. No one tried contacting me, they ignored me, and I had asked for a number to get into contact with the driver directly and it was never given to me. She said that they were there, but there was literally no one and I was tired of the lies and told her to just forget about it and to send me a refund for the deposit. She apologized, said she would process a refund and that the owner, Jesus, would contact me. All would have been well if it had ended that way, but Jesus never contacted me, so I decided to contact Stephanie later that evening. I asked her what had happened, and she claims that the driver had the addresses mixed up. Hmm..My best guess is that they overbooked themselves and they were stuck at an earlier event. And while that is completely unprofessional and just bad business management on their end, it would have been so much better if they would have been honest with me about that and told me at 11am when I had the time to come up with a backup plan and get lunch to our event on time for our guests. And it doesn't end there... Stephanie told me again that Jesus would be calling me. Never did and a refund still did not come through. My colleague reached out to Jesus on my behalf and instead of apologizing for the whole experience, he gets mad at her and is extremely rude. He says that he shouldn't even be processing a refund because his people were there, and we turned them away. Uh what? He also claims that no one from our office ever called him..not true. We got our refund, but no apology or admitting that he messed up. So, which is it? They showed up and we turned them away? They had the wrong address? Or they were never going to show up? I used Medinas Catering for my mothers Surprise 50th birthday party and I must say I would fully recommend them for any event. When I started looking for a cater,I naturally searched on yelp. I call a couple of people but Jesus stood out from the rest from the begining. I called him and set up a food tasting met. He set up the appointment and I showed up. The food testing was great so I made the deal, and man it was a deal. We had a buffet with fajitas, beans and rice. Jesus went above and beyond his duty. I used Medina's to cater my best friends baby shower. And they were punctual, well groomed and very accommodating considering my guests were very late. I arranged to have a TACO Buffet with pollo asado, carnitas and carne asada...the food was delicious, fresh and hot. The come with all the sides as well...onions, jalapeños, cilantro, chips and salsa. My guests were impressed by their organization, cleanliness and the cute Taco Cart which they set up in our backyard. They also made AGUA Frescas; Watermelon, and Cantaloupe Juice...YUMMY! I was referred to them by my mom who uses them for Student Events in the School of Engineering at Stanford University. I was very pleased and will be using them again and again! Medina's catering has been used numerous times at our department's events and they have always gone above and beyond! Recently, we hosted 60+ people and we asked for the food to be prepared beforehand and the food and drinks were delicious! Everyone had their fill and we had some leftovers that they kindly packed up for us to take home! They arrived on-time and they were able to get everything ready before all of our guests arrived and once they did their small but efficient team was able to satisify the needs of our 60 guests! We will definitely be using Medina's in the future and we recommend them to anyone thinking of hosting an event either big or small! read more

Medina's Catering catered appetizers and dinner at our wedding in San Francisco, and I couldn't be more pleased. My husband and I love tacos, and we had a vision of doing a fresh taco bar. Medina's Catering was recommended to us by the venue coordinator, who had worked with them before. Jesus & company set up an outdoor grill for meat, veggies, and fresh hand made tortillas, as well as an indoor buffet bar with salsas and other fresh foods. It was even better than we'd had in mind. For appetizers, they did a variety of tasty finger foods that we served during cocktail hour. Jesus was very easy to work with and super laid back (to the point where I confirmed a few times that he knew it was for 120 people). But not to worry - he's done this many times for even larger groups, and 120 people really was really no big deal for him! Our guests loved the food and went back for seconds and thirds. And the value? Unbeatable. I would have paid more than twice the price for what we got. Thanks Jesus! We'll call you again if we have a big party. read more

As the father of the groom let me vent regarding Medina's lack of service. My son and his bride had their wedding Oct 1 in San Fran. The ceremony was scheduled for 5:30 and we noticed at 5:00 that the caterer - Medina's Catering - was not on site. We called them and were told that they did not have us down in their schedule and no, they would not be providing dinner for 120 guests! The groomsmen quickly put their heads together to come up with someone close by who could possibly get us some food because at this point, any food, regardless of "wedding appropriate" or not, was better than no food for 120 people. Chipolte's said they could do it if we could give them 1 hour. The ceremony started and as soon as it was finished two groomsman went to get the food and we managed to save the evening. The next day the owner of Medina's called to apologize saying that it was an employee "error" and that that employee received a "stern talking to". We referenced the numerous emails back and forth along with the final email from them stating "ok, see you Oct 1st at 5:00 at Stern Grove Clubhouse". Nice of them to call but too late...... Obviously I can not in good faith, give them anything more than the lowest rating possible. read more

I have used Medina's Catering numerous times for events I have planned. The first was a lunch for a group on 500 people, and everything was smooth sailing. The food was delicious, the staff friendly, and the presentation was great. The next event was a small get together in a backyard for about 50 people. The same outcome. They were wonderful. The most recent event they catered is something that most caterers would never be able to handle. We fed the entire Health & Hospital System of Santa Clara County within 3 days. A total of 8,000 people and over 30 sites including swing and night shifts at the hospital. Jesus worked with me on every detail and had his entire team on board. The event in general is not easy, but the Medina's team worked tirelessly and made everything run smoothly while consistently delivering good food. I have never heard so many compliments.
