I had Caterman cater my October 2021 wedding. The processes of menu tasting, menu preparations, and keeping in touch leading up to the wedding were seamless. The food was also delicious according to my guests; I didn't even have the opportunity to grab some Hors D'oeuvres because poof! Everyone ate all of it. (Maybe I was just too busy haha) What really took the prize was the generosity and preparedness that Carmen and his team showed. My sister was in charge of buying and setting up extra appetizers/small bites on the side. But we forgot to buy plates and utensils for this side table! Caterman had planned ahead or were experienced enough to remember to bring these without asking! Way to save the day. I loved how they had experience working with Hakone Gardens as a venue. 1 star was taken off of this review because of a combination of factors - 1. portion sizes (smaller than when we had done the food tasting), 2. Bar (we lost communication about the logistics behind our his/hers cocktails. Watered down drinks towards latter end of the night. The owner and I came to a mutual resolution out of court in regards to our event. We will never get the day back nor can this ever be truly rectified. Semuh provided us the remainder of our refund in exchange for deleting my husband's review and for me to update mine with a resolution. This agreement saved us both a trip to the court house. They've apologized, and we've chosen to move on, but I will never understand how this happened or in good conscience recommend Caterman's to anyone, especially since the same people who screwed up so royally are still employed there... This year we decided to look into getting a caterer to help make things less work, and more enjoyable, for everybody. I was given the unenviable task of finding a caterer that fit our budget and would be able to satisfy everybody's palate for a memorable feast. Our potlucks are pretty legendary for the kind of spread we put out, so this would be no easy feat... Enter Yelp to the rescue! After messaging several caterers through the app, I was able to finally decide on Caterman Catering (CC) because of their great Yelp reviews; excellent communication; and their ability to fit our budget of ±$20/person. Today was the event and it went off without a hitch! Here's the breakdown: Communication- Excellent, excellent communication from CC employee Kayla G! She got back to my Yelp message within a day and (after exchanging email addresses) all future communications were pleasant, informative and always within 24 hours--and sometimes within the hour! This may not seem like that big of a deal, but some of the other caterers either A) never responded or B) would take their sweet time responding--some took a week, or two, to get back to me. Price- CC was able to exceed our expectations by delivering an excellent meal for below our max of $20/per and gave us a terrific price of $17/per. That price was for food only because we're lucky in that we have our own venue with tables, chairs, etc and didn't have to rely on them for Rentals. Food- CC provided us with a pretty terrific Holiday-themed buffet-style spread of Turkey, Potatoes, Green Beans, etc. The food was all really good, and I didn't hear one complaint from a usually persnickety bunch. The standouts -in my opinion- was the Sage Roasted Turkey, Three Cheese Tortellini and the Pumpkin Pie. The Tortellini in particular was pretty phenomenal--highly recommended. Also, we were worried about it not being enough food, but that turned out to be for nothing; there was tons of leftovers, and that's saying something for this bunch! Setup & Breakdown: The staff that came to setup and cleanup after the event was fast, professional, and on-time. 'Nuff said... CC's performance gave me a big sigh of relief today, because if they had been a disappointment I'm sure I never would've heard the end of it... Super big ups to Kayla G, the chefs and field staff at CC for doing an A+ job on catering a memorable Holiday Party for us. I'm sure we'll be calling y'all again next year. Happy Festivus! read more

We chose Caterman Catering for our wedding and lemme just say that working with them was so easy and they're all so professional and so coordinated! Kayla was so nice and so accommodating and completely hands on especially on our big day. She knows what she's talking about and she didn't disappoint. Everyone knows and could relate on how stressful it is to plan a wedding and to think that we planned our wedding in a little less than 3 months but still had such an amazing experience, we just cannot ask for more. One of the biggest selling point to us was that Kayla made sure we wouldn't be hungry (all couples I know told me that they're starving on the day of their wedding!). The servers were so nice and they made sure we would get a taste of the food and man oh man the food was AMAZING! Every guest was happy and fed and they couldn't help but to tell us how amazing the service and the food were. We also decided to get our rentals from them because we just felt so confident that they'd do such a great job since we did our tasting (we said yes to their catering and rental services on the day of the tasting!) and they totally did not disappoint. Our reception was everything we could ever imagine. We chose to have another appetizer added (can't have a wedding or a party without lumpia), so we purchased the rolls and had it frozen and they were kind enough to fry it on our wedding day and serve it. We got so surprised that they even provided the sweet and spicy sauce for it. It was these little details that truly amazed us. The team also was the one who set up everything with our florist and they totally just blew us away and completely took us and our guest to the backyard barbecue spring wonderland garden of our dreams! Where do I start? Missed meetings, failed follow ups, constant apologies for issues along the way getting a quote. But the worst is after confirming the date was available, reviewing details of the order Kayla for almost an hour, I followed up no less than three times over the course of a week to get the rental finalized. Let me start off by saying that Kayla was an absolute pleasure to work with. She was always very professional, responded quickly, and was flexible with all of our questions and requests. There is a lot of planning and detail needed for a wedding, and Kayla was always great about using her experience in offering us guidance and suggestions. We had a lot of late requests, like cutting out rentals to try to cut some costs here and there, along with adding a bunch of things like renting and setting up a beautiful white dance floor, adding heaters last minute, getting alcohol delivered to their office to have brought to the event, etc. Kayla was always very accommodating with everything. Caterman arrived promptly and set up quickly. The chairs, dinner tables, bar, cocktail area, and dance floor all looked fantastic. The food was very good. Everything from the appetizers, to the salad, to the main course was all cooked well and plated beautifully. I though the food somehow tasted better on the day of the wedding with 100+ guests versus when we went to the Caterman office for a private tasting. The plates, silverware, and napkins were all very pretty. We wanted to steal one of the nice napkins (don't worry Kayla, we didn't). Their cleanup after the event went smoothly, and they were very nice to box up all of the leftover alcohol and late night snacks for the after party. Now for the thing that didn't go as planned. Three of the heaters that we rented did not work. We were not charged for them, but they would have been useful. Champagne was not served in time for the toasts. We asked that a tip jar not be put out for the bartender, as we wanted our guests to really purely be our guests. We were planning (and did) tip the bartender separately, but we did see a tip jar left out. That said, we would highly recommend that you use Caterman for your wedding or your event. Caterman catered our wedding and it was perfect. We could not agree on a caterer we both liked, so one day while wine tasting at our venue, we were chatting with the staff about who gets to work which weddings and whatnot, and the guy happened to have just worked a wedding the night before and was raving about the food. I emailed Caterman while we were standing there to make a tasting appointment. Their processes and cost was about the same as the other vendors we looked at, but their food was just so much better. They had a lot of traditional food with unique and tasteful twists, which is what we were looking for. Originally we wanted to do someting totally off the walls (stone fired pizza? Food trucks? Food stations?) but we realized the age and expectations of our group were going to want something more traditional, so Caterman's menu was a great compromise. One thing I really appreciated about Caterman was the advice they gave us. They really understood what we were trying to do and who we were serving, and believed in what they thought we needed so much that they were throwing in services to make it the best experience for our guests. For example: for our vegan guests (we had quite a few), if we added one more passed app they threw in another entree, and they helped us pick the kids meals. A side note on the kids meals: it so good that everyone ate it and no one realized it was supposed to be kids only. We had a buffet and there were servers on one side for the food. The only complaint I have for the service was that when our guests asked the servers what each food item was, they didn't know! I was told there would be signs for each item noting what it was and whether it was vegan, but honestly I didn't get a chance to even look at the buffet so I'm not sure if they ere there or not. I had countless people tell me that the food at the wedding tasting will not be as good as the wedding day. I'm thankful to say that was not the case with Caterman Catering! We had our wedding reception and ceremony in September 2017 at Hakone Gardens in Saratoga for 160+ people -- everything was perfect, and it is in large part due to Kayla and Caterman Catering. From the beginning, Kayla was extremely professional, knowledgeable, and hugely helpful in assisting us with staying in our budget, curating our dinner menu, navigating our venue, providing guidance with our timeline, suggesting vendors, and our DIY ideas. On our wedding weekend, we dropped of our decorations and DIY floral arrangements, and Kayla and the Caterman Catering team handled the rest. They did a fantastic job decorating our venue and helped make our DIY ideas come to life, such as our doughnut wall and dessert table. Their licensed bartenders also kept the drinks flowing and made good use of our ice sculpture luge. Now onto the food! This is the one review I've been dying to review since the conclusion of our wonder day and it couldn't have happened without Caterman. From the very beginning, Caterman has been so accommodating and professional with their services. Not only that, we really couldn't have pulled it off without the help of their coordinator, Kayla, who also provided day of coordination services. We've consulted with quite a few caterers and we were so lucky to find Caterman. Caterman provided very reasonable prices and the food was superb. Instead of the traditional buffet or selection of dishes served (fish, chicken, beef), we opted for theme stations to satisfy all of our guests dietary needs. Fisherman's Wharf for seafood, Chinatown for Asian food, Haight for vegan food, North Beach for Italian food, and Castro for meats. Caterman went with the idea and executed it perfectly and everyone is still raving about the food. They were generous in portions and we even had leftovers to take back to our hotel's after party. And the service on that day was tremendous. We chose a venue that had quite strict requirements with the setup and cleanup hours and Caterman set up on time and did all the setup for my decorations. We dropped off a lot of decorations go Kayla and alcohol as well (they provide licensed bartenders) so we were able to provide open bar all night long. Not only that, our venue was in SF and Caterman went all the way up from San Jose and set everything up perfectly.
