Visited the Mediterranean 2000 with my family and we had quite a nice experience. The food was delicious and we all enjoyed what we ordered. I particularly like the Peito de Frango e Camarao ao Molho Branco, with rice and broccoli. The restaurant is quite quiet and the service is ok. There weren't a lot of people there (we were the only table), which was nice but also a little weird if I'm being honest. We have known the restaurant for a long time and we reminisce on the time when it was better, cleaner, and the staff a little more attentive. Overall the experience was nice. read more

First time make desition to stop and tasted portugguese food on Mediterranean2000 restaurant located on Castor St! Really too high priced for absotely terrible quality of food. The soup was at least hot, and not small portion ! I ordered some steak recomended by waitress, and take out to finished food in my home! Open this "STEAK" dish with dirty hole potatoes and inedible meat ( cannot cut any peace by knife even !!! ( How old was the cow???) which is must to be steak for my diner tonight!!! I have been here a couple of times and have enjoyed my time every time. The food is amazing (coming from a person that loves Portuguese food) lol. It's very laid back and quiet . Less spicy, more garlic and fat(flavor). Kind of similar to a garlic kielbasa. I had the Portuguese steak. Cooked perfectly Med Rare with a spicy steak sauce and an over easy egg. I'm told that is a very Portuguese way to cook steak. All served over thick cut fried potatoes. 2 apps. 2 steaks, 1 shrimp, 1 sea bass and 6 beers and an ice tea: $111. Very affordable place. I got the parrilhada for $21 and it is filled with seafood! The taste is very homemade feeling and I personally love that. If you're more of a outside restaurant eater, this may not fit your tastebuds. The jumbo shrimp and steak is also very delicious! Mash potatoes are a slight bland but like I said, it's more of a home style taste. Super nice and friendly service. Flan is not too sweet and have a soft ricey texture. Food is more Spanish than Mediterranean. Salmon is fresh, moist, buttery & well seasoned (simple but tasty). Wife loves the Sangria. Service was very good, despite the language barrier (I don't speak Spanish and most of the barmaids didn't speak English). I was able to communicate with the help of other patrons). Place has a very familiar vibe, most of the customers appear to be regulars and/or well known, but still we were brought into the fold and treated like family. The owner is a nice guy, seated quietly at the bar observing, and you would have never known it until one customer pointed him out to us. I came here for dinner one Saturday night around 6:30. The restaurant was practically empty. I'm not sure what the bar area look like at that time, but I would assume it was busy based on the number of cars in the parking lot. Mediterranean is a very nice restaurant, with plenty of room for big parties, a nice bar area where people can enjoy a REAL football (soccer) game, but they still couldn't compare to my beloved Tio Pepe's. I ordered the vegetable soup, which was good but the only vegetable in it was potato. For dinner, I ordered the grilled shrimp which came with rice and homemade Portuguese potato chips. I had a phenomenal glass of red sangria with dinner. Though I prefer the food at Tio Pepe's (which is 5 minutes away from Mediterranean), this is one of only few good restaurants in the northeast. read more

The waitress was exceptional and very attentive. My companion had "t bone steak". It did not appear to be a T-bone and was, for the most part, very grisly. with huge bones. It looked like venison and did not taste like beef. I had cod which was overcooked and leathery. The side was broccoli which could not be cut with a knife. I ate a few bites of the meal which consisted of leathery cod, tough broccoli and big white unseasoned potatoes. When asked how the food was, I was honest. The "manager" argued that cod and broccoli are supposed to be "tough these days" We will not be going back here. A big disappointment. read more

Got off a plane hungry and decided to try this place with my family. We started with the clams in garlic broth and the roasted chorizo. OMG!! It was delicious!! We then had the seafood parrillada, shrimp, and salmon dishes. Everything was absolutely delicious! Even better was the service provided by Susana! Very good food, I had the shrimp and rice casserole. And the wine sauce it was made in gave it that taste I was looking for. Not too mention my great server Rafaela was so sweet. Had a great time here, and enjoyed some wonderful food. The prices are more than fair considering the quantity and quality of food and drinks. We tried the seafood Paella and were not disappointed in the slightest. There was a generous amount of seafood in it, as opposed to filling up on rice, which is what a lot of other restaurants do to cheap out. The Sangria was also refreshing and fruity, and was the perfect drink for a hot day. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking to get a Portuguese fix. My all time favorite restaurant hands down! My fiancé is Portuguese and he took me here when we first started dating and I couldn't get enough! Their homemade pitcher of sangria is a must to start off with not to mention is quite inexpensive. I've tried a lot of meals on their menu but my favorite is their pork chops with fries. I came here a few nights ago with my boyfriend, we were excited to try a new place because we usually go to Tio Pepe and that place is absolutely amazing!.. so when we got here we were expecting the same type of treatment and results food wise. right when we walked in all eyes were on us because we are not Portuguese and I felt a little bit uncomfortable, we were excited to try it because it also received many great reviews so we didn't think anything bad would come up in this restaurant... but that was not the case. We sat down and it took awhile for someone to serve us. Shorty after we sat, a couple and their son (I'm assuming) sat close by and their son was running all around and actually coming to our table screaming and crying and disturbing my boyfriend and I.. he tried grabbing our table number and he came a great amount of times and no one took control of it. Which was very unprofessional. Our waitress came and she was actually a very nice girl... we ordered the chicken soup and it was good. I decided to get the stuffed salmon and my boyfriend ordered the seafood spaghetti... as people came in after us , we noticed their food came out faster than ours. We waited about an hour for our meals and they were disgusting. My boyfriend couldn't even eat his because it made him sick. My potato wasn't cooked, my vegetables were hard, and the stuffed salmon wasn't the best for its price... We asked the nice waitress if we could at least take my boyfriends meal off the check, and she was able to. Thanks to her we didn't have to pay all this money for disgusting meals and bad atmosphere. I would say that if you are apart of their culture you would receive better service and perhaps better food as well... but I definitely will not be attending again. read more

Horrendous! Went here tonight for Valentines Day. We were looking forward to trying it after seeing a positive review in the City Paper. The menu tonight was a photocopied handwritten list that was barely legible. We ordered as soon as we got here and we ended up sitting for half an hour before anyone filled up our water or even came to check on us. We waited 45 for our food and all the waitress said was that the kitchen was busy. Which of course they couldn't have predicted, not like it's Valentines day or anything. The steak and potatoes were mostly cold. We then waited another fifteen minutes after we were finished just to get someone to stop so we could ask for the check. After we gave our cards for payment, we waited 20 minutes for them to run the cards and return the check. We felt like there was some prank being played on us! NOT a good experience. read more

I was surprised to discover this gem in NE Philly. We went there with my husband on Friday night around 9:30pm and it was still crowded. I got the Portuguese steak and my husband ordered the steak with jumbo shrimp and rice. The food was fresh, properly prepared and a great value for the price. Great presentation. Both of us enjoyed the dishes. I would say my dish had a deeper flavor and the sauce was very rich. We also had tiramisu for the dessert and it was the best ever (!!!). Our waitress was just wonderful. The food came out quickly. In general, they have a nice atmosphere there. A very good experience. We will be back for sure. read more

Actually pretty impressed with what i ordered because it was take out and a bit of a ride home. Been craving something different and wanted to surprise the wifey with something she hasn't had in a while. I usually don't write a review on here unless I've been to the place a few times, but i was compelled to write it because i was very impressed with the food and saw this place didn't have that many reviews. Like i mentioned earlier, this was a pick up order, i only spend about 10 minutes in the actual restaurant. From what i gathered, seemed like the natives dinning there were very happy devouring their meals as the conversation in Portuguese was flowing almost as much as the beer and liquor. Ordering the meal over the phone was a bit of a challenge as there was only one person at the time that spoke adequate english to take my order and offer some advice to me. But it all worked out in the end. For appetizers, i ordered the Portuguese Flaming Sausage and something that was not on the menu but recommended by a friend of mine and the person taking the order, Portuguese Picadinho, which is not on the menu. The sausage was very good, but i do believe it would taste better have i eaten it there, i believe it comes to the table in flames. The Picadinho was something i would highly recommend. It seemed to me like a Portuguese stew, it came with marinated, almost grilled like pieces of pork, steak, chicken, shrimp, onions, olives, lemons and peppers in a very distinct sauce (this usually is a dish thats prepared with some what, but i ordered it non spicy). This dish was phenomenal, the variety alone is worth a try. For main entree, i ordered the steak cutlet in wine sauce and order of shrimp and scallions in garlic sauce. Both dishes were very well seasoned and the sauces used were phenomenal and perfect to dip with portuguese rolls. Both dishes came with rice with peas. Probably my fault, as i didn't specify that i wanted the steak medium rare, it was more on the well done temperature. But i would definitely order both these dishes again. I can only imagine how amazing they must be taste right from the kitchen to the table. By the way, the portions are very huge as we had left overs for the next day and then some. Overall, the variety or meats, sauces and distinct style of Mediterranean Cuisine was very refreshing, amazingly seasoned and delicious. It felt like soul food with a twist. My husband and I tried this place last night because of the yelp reviews. We ordered the seafood Paelha which the server told us would take 35-40 minutes. We figured we would have an appetizer and a pitcher of sangria while we waited. We chose the flaming sausage as an app, and boy were we not disappointed. The sangria was delicious as well. Once the Paelha came out it was well worth the wait. A huge pot filled with rice, shrimp, scallops, mussels, clams, and topped with a whole lobster. My husband and I were able to bring home an entire meal for the two of us to share again. So glad we tried it, and we will definitely go back. read more

I'm not sure what all the great reviews are about. I feel like everyone that thought this place had great seafood has never actually had great seafood. The portions are huge, however the food itself was mediocre at best. The apps were pretty good. I actually thought the stuffed mushrooms were pretty good. My husband and I also got the rice and seafood dish with mixed meats. Neither one of is knew exactly what meat we were eating. We also go the tiramisu dessert which came still frozen. I've had better from costco. It absolutely was not made in house. The drinks were also poorly made except for the sangria which was good. All in all, I probably will not be going back. read more

So as far as the meal goes. It started off good with good warmed bread which made the butter melt into the bread which was great. The sangria was pretty good too. Nice and sweet but still able to taste the alcohol. We started with the stuffed mushrooms and the calamari appetizers. The stuffed mushrooms was excellent and well seasoned. The calamari was sub par and too heavily breaded. I couldn't even taste the seafood at all since the breading was so intense. As one of the entrees we ordered the two person paella as a starter to our entrees (we had a large party). I was seriously disappointed. Compared to Tio Pepe that had a decent paella, this paella was heavily lacking in the seasoning department. It was bland, the shrimps were bland, and even the clams and mussels. The lobster in it was HUGE. It would have been nice if they chopped up the lobster. They merely cut it in half and.. that was it. It was half a lobster in two separate pieces. Might just be me nip-picking,but it would probably be easier to eat chopped. Then we got the stuffed salmon and steak and eggs. The stuffed salmon was more like a salmon sandwich. Two salmon pieces between a crab cake. The salmon was under seasoned and the sides of broccoli, carrots, potatoes weren't seasoned. Only boiled. As for the steak and eggs.. it was pretty much the only thing OVERSEASONED. The sauce was too vinegary to the point where I tasted the sauce and cringed. It tasted like a gallon of A-1 sauce mixed with water. I typically enjoy vinegary food but this was excessive. I had to separate the steak from the sauce. The potato chips were soaked in the sauce so it was inedible for me. The ham was too salty as well. Ham combined with the sauce provided put it over the edge. Also the steak was strangely cooked. I ordered medium-rare. Parts of the steak were rare, other parts were medium, and none were medium-rare. It looked like it was cooked on an uneven fire or something was wrong with their stove. TL;DR: Food was bland and under seasoned or it was incredibly salty. Maybe they had an off day since it was a Thursday but... wouldn't try again. At least their stuffed mushrooms and bread was good. Which is sad to say the only highlight of our meal. read more

This is very classic Portuguese Restaurant, if you are looking for home made like traditional Portuguese food, this is place to go! Must have shrimp with garlic sauce- this is my favorite. The place is very good for surf and turf dishes as well as deserts. There is a bar on the 1st floor when you walk in and past that was a banquet area that had a private party which we were scolded for walking in on. when the bartender finally sent us upstairs it was all great. Service was great, waitress helped explain what everything on the menu was. The Portuguese style steak was one of the best meals my wife and I ever had. This place is one of my favorites in the Northeast and I've been coming for years. The menu is pretty extensive, but I generally stick to the staples. You can't go wrong with the Portuguese steak, shrimp in garlic sauce, paella or chorizo (brought to the table in a flaming dish). The rolls are soft, crusty and fresh. There also have Sagres beer and great Sangria. They will make stuff for kids that isn't on the menu, like chicken tenders and fries. The service is excellent. They've had the same waiter for years and he's a pro. The dinner crowd usually arrives late (after 8) and stays late. The desert is blah at best. Have cafe cone leche instead. There is some kind of club downstairs, but I've never been there. The bar is separated from the dining room and looks like something out of a movie. Mostly a Latin crowd, wearing cowboy hats and watching soccer. A real gem in an otherwise bland food scene. read more
