Bread, cheese, and butter are the building blocks of my entire existence. There's a pocket of great Eastern European cuisine in this part of Philadelphia, and Georgian Bread is a star. Visiting during the aftermath of snow storm may not have been my best idea, as the roads were a mess and the parking lot was slushy and chaotic. Once I entered Georgian Bread, the stress melted away. They have a very impressive setup with large wooden, family-style seating and rustic, Georgian décor. Don't be fooled by their shopping center locale. We were seated in the dine in area after several minutes of awkward lingering - I honestly don't think they were expecting customers with the weather. Our server was super nice, took our order, and left us to our own devices. We had the entire place to ourselves. We ordered the Adjaruli, lamb Kebabs, and a jug of hot tea to share. Ultimate comfort meal. I thought the kebabs would be small. The photo on the menu indicated two, 12 inch wooden dowels with a few pieces of small meat - just a taster, I thought. I thought WRONG. We were served what I would essentially call a SWORD with giant, tender, juicy cuts of lamb. The value was like highway robbery. It paired perfectly with our melty, eggy, salty, butter bread boat of heavenly cheese. It was the perfect amount of food for a lunch for two. The desserts looks AMAZING. I definitely want to come back to try more items. My only complaint was the service was super slow. This could be cultural, but it could also be because it was a slow, snowy day and we were the only customers. Either way, the servers were super kind, and it was not a determent from the meal.

We were actually looking for the Turkish kitchen, but we're happily distracted by the new tenant. Without reservations, we were directed to the outdoor seating in front of the building. Not a bad place to eat and drink, with heavily urethaned picnic tables and large umbrellas overhead. Our server was very helpful and hospitable, understanding we had little experience with Georgian food and less with their vineyards. We were invited to sample the wines in house. She poured a dry red for us that we both liked and ordered a glass for each of us. It was drier than a merlot, and more like a cabernet . Its Georgian name escapes me. We ordered Borscht soup and Adjaruli Kharchapuri for me and Pork BBQ for son 'o mine, which was a 50% off special. The Borscht was served hot with plenty of red beet and chunks of beef. A small dish of sour cream was offered to lighten/sweeten the flavor. My grandmother made this dish, but served it cold with a hot boiled potato thrown in for heat and added texture rather than meat. Liked this version, too. The Kharchapuri is an excellent bread shaped like an open boat (Viking?), full of salty cheese. A raw egg is placed in the middle with pats of butter. Again, our friendly server was helpful in mixing all that together until it was an egg/cheese mass with wonderful taste with the bread ripped apart by hand and cupped to scoop up the gooey center. It was a terrific tactile entertainment. Delicious. The BBQ Pork was simple and tasty. All customers other than us were speaking Georgian which greatly contributed to the exotic ambiance of the operation. People were dressed up for Fathers Day, and there were grandparents and plenty of children involved in the activities. We appreciated being allowed to sit on the edge of their Sunday evening and sample a nice slice of Georgian culture.

Once we ordered it, we were told we should probably move to an eight-top because we would have more space. The Plov was some of the best we've ever had with lots of tender meat. Both steaks were cooked to our liking. Fries were killer and the chicken fingers were fine. I did not care for the compote as I'm used to it with fruit still in the drink. At about 7pm, the DJ started but there was no separate party which is what we thought was going to show up. The DJ sang some and played up-tempo dance music but also threw in some known music like Ob-Bla-Dee Ob-Bla-Dah from the Beatles also in the dance music style. So much fun after drinking a lot of our BYOB alcohol. Service was excellent and more than accommodating for us. He even advised when we were getting ready to leave that it was raining hard and we could stay until it died down. The restaurant is colorful with lights and designs on the walls including projector lights and white linen sheets above. The place was clean and also the bathrooms on the lower rear level. $305 not including tip for six adults which included two steaks, two Plov, chicken fingers with fries, three breads, and a compote. I tell you EVERYONE who came in ordered Plov and bread. We did, too. Along with the assorted kebabs, lagman soup, and two Samsas. The soup was tomato based with homemade long noodles, beef, celery, peppers, onions, carrots, and celery. Had to alternate between a fork and spoon to eat it. The bread was extra tasty and was great to dip in the soup. The kebabs were fresh, very tender, and came with onion and some pickled hot peppers. My wife liked her samsa but I was getting full and took mine home. But the star of the night was the Plov with the most tender and flavor filled slow cooked rice with lamb, beef, carrots, and onions. I could see why most come in and just order it for however many were in their party. It's that good. Best I've had so maybe as others mentioned it was a fresher batch made. With two bottle Cokes and a wonderful pot of black tea, our meal came to $77 including tax and a small upcharge for credit card payment. Tip was left in cash. I will say that the prices on the bill were slightly higher than what was listed on the menu so be mindful of this. For instance, menu Plov is $14.99 but bill Plov is $16.19. Menu tea is $1.99 but bill tea is $2.15. You have to know that when most of the customers are holding court in their language enjoying their food in a constant stream, that Plov House is doing something right.
