We stumbled upon this place and decided to go in and give it a try and we were not disappointed! We ordered the hummus starter which was delicious and you could tell it was fresh and made in house! For our mains, my boyfriend got the Lasagna con Pollo which is baked in the wood oven... it's hard to put in to words how amazing this was, it was the perfect combination of pasta, meat and cheese - I highly recommend trying it! I got the Chicken Brochette which met my expectations of what I would expect from the chicken and it was broiled to perfection. Each also came with a side salad. Service was friendly and efficient. Outdoor seating is appropriately spread out for COVID and transports you to as if you were in the Mediterranean. The food here is of high quality and we would definitely go back! My only issue was the prices which to me were a little high (however this is clear from the $ rating) and you can tell the ingredients are of high quality so it felt justified. read more

This is probably the best Greek we've ever eaten, and we like Greek. (They have a lot besides Greek, but Greek is what we ordered.) We had mini lamb brochettes -- wonderful -- and later skewered shrimp. The trio of appetizers (we selected dips) was first-rate. This was my first trip to the Mediterranean Grill. I had heard about it from friends in town and it came highly reccomended. I decided to give the spot a shot for my husband and my shared birthday dinner. I had a wonderful experience! Our server, I am pretty sure her name was Bobbie, was very attentive and friendly. She asked if we were out for a special occasion and was interested in hearing about it. She was prompt, our drinks were never empty and she was really knowledgable. My husband had a steak (it was huge!) and I had the chicken lasagna (delicous!) We are definitly going to return!! Only complaint- it was FREEZING!! Bring a sweater. read more

I was so excited to try this restaurant, so I chose it for my birthday. The food was amazing, but the waiter totally sucked. It was a Sunday night, and there were like 4 waiters working, and probably 3 tables of guests. It took like 20 minutes for the waiter to get our food that was ready to our table (it's an open kitchen). I had to restrain myself to not walk over and get it myself. Plus, it didn't seem to bother the other servers that the waiter was standing around not paying attention. With food that great, it's a shame they can't have better service. We will never be return customers ONLY because of the service. read more

There is inside and outside dining. We chose outside dining and loved it - UNTIL a huge summer thunder and lightning storm descended upon us!!! As the wind whipped up and it started to rain, all of us eating outside were quickly brought inside. We were treated very politely by all staff. I am a water drinker and my glass was never less than 1/2 full; I was thrilled with that! My husband ordered a salmon salad, and expected salmon pieces on the bed of greens. He had an entire salmon filet!!! It was delicious and huge. I had the veggie lasagna and it was incredible. We both had leftovers to take back to our room. Our dessert - Chocolate Pudding Cake. Now I've had that before and also have made it a number of times. This was the best ever; the pudding part was like ganache! Ohhhh so good. We thoroughly enjoyed dining outside - the street is a fun street in Helena with other eating places and places to visit. They have a large eating area inside. read more

My wife and I love this place. We sometimes drive to Helena just to have lunch there. They have a very interesting menu and we are rarely disappointed. But this time I order the Sicilian pizza. I have lived in Sicily. I know what a Sicilian pizza is and the Mediterranean Grill doesn't have a clue on this one. It was about what you would get if you ordered a veggie pizza at Pizza Hut. And I say veggie because that's what I was given. It was supposed to have pepperoni on it but the cook forgot it! And pepperoni would not have made it a Sicilian pizza anyway. The most disappointing lunch ever. Be forewarned and pass on the pizza. read more

It's interesting to read the extreme contrasts in reviews- I for one like this place. (Granted, the wall decor is a bit quirky- I think my 5 year old could have done a better job, but the food is really the thing here.) Only been there for Sunday brunches- I enjoy having the option to taste a little of a lot. It gets a little noisy in there sometimes, but I guess that's because the customers are enjoying themselves. Some of the food is unique, but that should be a given considering the type of restaurant it is. I've always left this place full and fulfilled. Service has always been very good to excellent. The entrees are excellent (altho I'll admit I'm afraid to try some of them- maybe I'll muster up the courage someday!) Great pizza. Fantastic desserts- even downright addicting- we usually take an order to go. I hope they're around for a long time! read more

Brunch.....Helena doesn't know what this is. Seriously. It's a big-city thing that has yet to meander its way into Montana. The only place I know of in the whole city that has it down is the Med Grill. Sundays only, sadly....but well worth it. It's a $15 per person event, and trust me, you get more than you pay for. A list of maybe five entrees is provided, and while your selection is being prepared, you have unlimited access to a buffet style table with an array of appetizers, soups, pizzas, fresh fruit, and desserts. I suggest gorging on all of this, and once your entree comes out, just ask them to box it up. Trust me, this is an amazing deal, and go easy on the staff, it's not their fault that they're sometimes understaffed. As for normal dining, I'm not too big on the pizza selection, but the pastas are great. Try the Lasagna Romagnola- yummy!!! The alcohol and wine selection is somewhat lacking, but Miller's bar is right next door - get a great meal and skip over there for your drinks! read more

This used to be my favorite restaurant in the whole world. I have had some amazing meals here. I still like it a lot but over time I have had some uneven service and food which moved it down from the top spot. I agree with the reviewer who said it was cold. Now, whenever we go for brunch I make sure I have a good sweater on. I agree with the reviewer on the brunch who said load up on the buffet and perhaps have your entree boxed up to take home. My favorite dish here is the lamb kabobs for dinner. The patio dining in the summer is wonderful. That's about it- I do recommend this restaurant if you are in Helena and hopefully you will have good timing as far as service and your meal. I have never had a bad experience, just a few not great experiences. read more

Ordered an Antipasto Misto to-go after COVID hit. This is what was supposed to be in it: "An assortment of freshly grilled vegetables, artichoke hearts, fresh mozzarella, fresh basil and Sicilian Caponata (a rich tomato relish with eggplant, capers, pine nuts and olives), lightly drizzled with extra virgin olive oil and balsamic wine vinegar. Chilled and served with flat bread." When I ordered it, I told them no bread since I was gluten free. When I went to pick up my order, I was told by the waitress "that they were out of olives, so threw in some extra tomato." I mistakenly didn't look at it before I took it home. When I opened it at home to eat it, this is what I got instead of the description: 2 grilled mushy vegetables including artichoke heart (not 's') and I think a pepper; about 3 small rounds of mozzarella that wasn't fresh; the caponata was a purple MUSH that I didn't know was caponata until I looked on the menu to see what the heck it was; no pine nuts; no olives; and too many tomatoes. It was swimming in balsamic vinegar. When I contacted the owner via email about the salad, he was apologetic and said that wasn't even how it was supposed to have been made, and offered me a refund in the form of a gift certificate, which he said he'd mail to me. A month later, I contacted him again and asked him if he mailed it because I had received nothing. He apologized again, said he'd look into it because he was so "busy" with this COVID mess. That was another month ago. I haven't received anything but an empty promise. Will not eat there again. read more

We ate there 6/15/2015. The appetizers arrived quickly - the dinner took hours to get to the table. When it did - salads were blah, seafood fettucine more fettucine than seafood with a far too heavy cheese sauce. Another member of the party ordered some kebabs - said they were dry and greasy all at the same time. One of the other diners, from Seattle, ordered paella and said the seafood was tough and stale. Being from Seattle, he probably shouldn't have ordered anything with seafood. The humus and baba ghanoush were very good. However, I was hoping a Mediterranean restaurant would have more Mediterranean food. A lot of the plates are Italian pasta, which I guess is of the Mediterranean region. I had a Greek salad, which definitely did not skimp on the d'état and other toppings. We have eaten here on several occasions and have enjoyed it but tonight was a disappointment. Due to work schedules we arrived a bit late, 8:30. Although it was almost empty we waited and waited to place our order. Another long wait for food and then yet another long wait to pay. I've dined almost everywhere in Helena over the past third century. Helena has, for sure a shortage of "really good" eateries. But a couple stand out, and I go back to them over and over when I want to entertain out-of-town company. MG is probably my favorite. Its extensive menu is consistently of high quality, rendered with panache. Is the seating the most comfortable? No. Is the temperature always perfect (delivered by the landlord, I presume)? No. But none of those minor distractions reduces the fact that I consistently receive the most gourmet of Helena's dining experiences, whenever I go there. It's prices are not cheap, but it's competitive with all of Helena's other quality restaurants, and much less pricey than some. I know I can go to the MG, get top quality, delightfully spiced appetizers, entree's, and deserts, and I'll leave the place fat and happy. Of note, as a recent vegetarian convert, I've found MG has the best menu in Helena to give me variety, and quality, and stay on my diet. read more

This place was amazing! The location in Helena is great and the interior of the building was gorgeous, with a large brick stone oven constantly in use. The warmth and aromas coming from it were tranquilizing. Being a busy night, my boyfriend and I started the evening with wine at the bar, a white riesling from Spain, until we could get seated. The seating is a bit tight but it makes for a homey/comfy experience, especially with a great wait staff being friendly and accommodating. The variety in wine was to die for, so many options from literally any part of Mediterranean area. For dinner I had the salmon which was moist and herbed/spiced just right; along with the white rice that accompanied being just as delicious. My boyfriend had the curry/rice/soup which he absolutely loved. The portions were great, just enough room left to split a dessert. Upon finishing we had a gentleman (owner? manager?) stop by our table and ask about our visit; being such a busy night it was a nice touch that left a good impression. My wife loves the Med Grill...me, not so much. On our last visit yesterday, she had a sandwich she said was delicious; but it took over 30 minutes to get a sandwich; and the place was mostly empty. I ordered a bowl of the soup of the day, Seafood chowder, and got a bowl of seafood broth. The 'broth' was nicely flavored and even had a few potatoes in it; but no seafood. It seems that the chowder was a popular item and they served me the bottom of the pot. It should not have even been served. My meal was "comped" after I complained; but had I not known better and complained I would have been paid for a broth. Indeed the chef (who was literally 5 feet from the soup pot) and the waitress who actually dished up the soup should have know and not served the soup. We waited at another restaurant for an hour and a half only to continue waiting. Finally, we made our way to Mediterranean Grill instead and it was fantastic. From the man who greeted us at the door to our server, it was exactly where we should have gone from the beginning. Thank you for saving our evening and treating us so well. I was in Helena on a business trip and after many days of Perkins and Applebees, needed something better. This was easily one of the best meals of my life!!! I was there on a quiet Monday night with a colleague who had never had Greek food. He was in charge of wine and I was in charge of food. We split a great bottle of red, the stuffed grape leaves, spanakopita, and paella. It was FANTASTIC. Our waiter (owner???) was attentive, charming, and very helpful. The next time I'm in Montana, I will definitely plan a detour to Helena just for dinner here again! read more

With a family of five we were seated and handed menus. Frankly, the prices were too high for what we were willing to spend. I'm not spending $25 for my 14 year old to hate her dinner. My waitress was not to be found, so we just left the restaurant before being served water. It took all of 2 minutes. The chef/owner followed us to our car demanding to know why we left the restaurant. We were already in our car at the time. Never experienced anything like that before. read more

So, I'd have to agree with a few of the reviews that say the atmosphere is a bit cold. We've been here several times, and have had a whole range of experiences from cold and frosty to warm and toasty. I think it depends a lot on the day, server, weather, stock market, way you tied your shoes, blah blah blah. The service completely depends on who you get...but the food... I don't understand who is complaining about the food. I have vivid dreams about the basmati rice, and anytime I go I make sure whatever I'm ordering comes with it. The hummus is great, the baba-ghannouj is yummy, and the muhamarra is sooooo good! At least go give it a try (and a second chance if you didn't like it the first time around)! read more

Everyone keeps telling me I should write reviews because I travel so much for business - well this is my first and I'm starting off with a good one! I ate simply, soup and salad....but what a soup and salad!! The soup was special that day - a curried chicken and rice. Outstanding. Perfect amount of curry seasoning, chicken cooked to perfection. The salad was the Ensalata de Mer....sauteed shrimp, mussels, scallops and octopus with organic greens in a light citrus dressing. I was stuffed. Their wine list by the glass was very ambitious and most were around $6.25 (something you don't see in Portland!). The ambiance was very pleasant, quiet and service was very good. I always struggle to find restaurants in Montana with good vegetarian options, but the Mediterranean Grill is the exception to the rule! I had a salty and savory lentil vegan soup that even my carnivorous family enjoyed. As an entree, I chose the Imam Bayildi (a stuffed eggplant dish). I typically don't like eggplant unless it is fried and smothered in cheese, but the Imam Bayildi was delicious! The restaurant also has a fabulous wine selection and a staff that knows their wine. I knocked a star because the service was a bit slow and my mom complained about her lamb kabobs being a bit dry. read more

This place is seriously mediocre. I've been here three times, and left unimpressed or seriously disgruntled every time. It seems like there's often something cooked badly (soggy gnochi, or a hefty dose of raw garlic in a sauce), and they seem to always use dry instead of fresh spices, which don't give much flavor. The decor is super cheesy, and together, the weird ambience and the bland or badly cooked food definitely don't merit the hefty price tag -- if you want to go out for a nice dinner and pay this much, go to On Broadway or Lucca's, both of which serve much better food. read more

My husband ordered "regular" eggplant Parmesan & said his was especially delicious as well. On top of that, their wine special was wonderful also. Haven't been here for about six months. that said, had out of town guest who has been to the usual places in Helena, we decided on Med grill for something different. we were seated right away given menus and and then ignored for more than 15 minutes. I take that back...a nice young man refilled our waters. Our waitress arrived and took our wine and dinner order. Salad came out with wine and we enjoyed that. I tired a special rojo wine and it was excellent. Entrees took a long time and our waitress was no where in sight, wine was about gone. When food came there was a mix up on rare tuna and medium and she took both back to the kitchen when I asked, which was which. My tuna tasted good but 'rare' wasn't even pink in the middle. once all dinners were delivered our waitress did not check back on us at all. we all wanted more wine and one of our party wanted to order to go for her hubby but we were out of luck. long story, short....hour and half later good food, not good service. Top it off, we asked for separate checks...one came out...try again, came back all wrong three ways. By now we are laughing! good thing we didn't get more wine! Bottom line, great food and wine, nice place. Please train staff on level of customer service for the caliber expected of this fine restaurant. read more
