Extremely disappointed. We ordered baked rigatoni and bolognese lasagna. The rigatoni was swimming in a flavorless, thick, pasty white sauce; the lasagna with a red sauce tasting of canned tomato paste and chunks of flavorless ground beef; both covered with gooey, lackluster cheese. Our soup, a seafood chowder, was more mediocre than Campbell's. No "Buon appetito" for this Italiana! On a good note, our server was very nice. read more

WORST Service Ever. My husband and I went in for a late afternoon lunch. They were not busy at all. We both ordered soup and salad that took FOREVER. Our drinks didn't come until we asked for them again - sorry for having to put our server out and have us request something besides water - geeze. I struggle with this place because sometimes people will tell me such great things, but I'm not sure how anyone can think this poor service is okay. Maybe it was an isolated incident? Being a chef myself I expected better from the looks of their menu. Everything was under spiced. The only good part was the salad. I had the Chicken Alfredo, it was very watery as if they were trying to cut corners and used water instead of cream and definitely barely any parmesan in it. A friend got the potatoe soup and it was had very little flavor. All in all nice looking place, but for the price and the service I got was I would suggest tread lightly. read more

Well the food was mediocre for the prices... it wasn't awful but it wasn't great either... service was not great, the kitchen either forgot our order or pushed it back.. we sat there for and hour and a half waiting for our food... Went here twice for lunch during my week-long stay in Helena, and I wish we could have brought it back to the east coast with us. Fabulous pasta and fabulous pizza, so good and so filling that we didn't need to eat dinner. Having grown up in NY and NJ surrounded by dozens upon dozens of Italian restaurants I'll admit that I'm kind of a snob about Italian food. So hats off to Mediterranean Grill, and you'll definitely see me again if I ever make my way back to Helena! read more

Mediterranean Grill looks kind of shabby both inside and out that my family and I didn't realize we were stepping into a restaurant that had entrees starting at around thirty dollars. But since we had already eaten a meal a couple of hours prior, we thought a couple of light dishes wouldn't hurt to end the night with. When our waiter arrived to take our order and noticed they were all fairly small portions (soup, appetizers, etc.) his mood seemed to switch all of a sudden. I think we missed the memo that the establishment was for expensive diners only or something, but having worked at restaurants myself before.... I know that is not the attitude to hold in front of PAYING guests. The dishes came out swiftly and having ordered the hummus for myself, noticed that it was overbearingly powerful with lemon. I understand that a good traditional hummus comes with the juice of a lemon, but it seems like they may have OD'd on it a little too much. I'm sure if my family and I were all hungry and ordered their ridiculously priced foods, our waiter would have been more pleased than he was when he served us. Note: siblings and dad said the soup was aromatic but was completely flavorless. Yikes. Sounds like a lot of the other reviews listed here. Judging as a whole--ambience, food, service, MG only deserves two stars. I was very dismayed that our server seemed agitated and hostile which made the whole experience very unsettling. Mediterranean Grill - Hummus, paprika, pita. - Greek Near Me - Helena, Montana

So I'm back working on the road now and it appears I'm stuck in Montana and going to be here for awhile so expect a few reviews from here. I went to the Mediterranean Grill to eat dinner with my co-workers on Friday night. The menu was quite extensive and there were a lot of food that sounded very appealing. My colleage and I shared the appetizer sampler which was flat bread with your three choice of dipping sauces from the following: Hummus, Baba-Ghannouj, Muhammara, Tapenade or Bisara. We chose the Hummus, Muhammara, and Bisara (they were out of the Baba-Ghannouj). All the dips were really good and I loved them.. the least flavorable was the Hummus. As I'm a fan of rib-eye, I ordered the Baharat Rubbed Grilled Rib-Eye Steak. This was 16oz of rib-eye rubbed with Baharat and grilled. Baharat is a mixed of Middle Eastern spices. It came with a side of red potatoes and seasonal steamed vegetables. All entrees are served with either a side of their soup of the day or classic salad. I had their side seafood chowder which was actually really good with big chunks of salmon. My boss got their side classic salad, which was a very beautiful and scrumptuous looking greek salad. I was regretting that I didn't go with the salad 'cause it looked that good! My disappointment was that I had specifically asked if it was a bone-in ribeye as I like my steak to have a bone in it since I find it makes the meat more juicy. I usually won't order rib-eye if it's boneless--that's not how I roll when it comes to my meats! haha.. I was quite disapointed when my rib-eye came out boneless and when I commented on it to my waiter, he just kept quiet as if he didn't understand me and he probably didn't since he had a heavy Mediterranean accent. I had also ordered my steak medium to medium-rare and the meat came out more medium to medium-well. The steak wasn't really that tender and I felt they over-seasoned the potatoes and steamed vegetables with too much rosemary or thyme--or whatever it is that's similar to those herbs. As this isn't a steak house, I can't expect too much from their steak and therefore, gave them a higher rating than I would have at any other steak establishment--especially since I felt I was eating quite a bit of over-charcoaled meat. I do look forward (and plan) on coming back here to try their other dishes although I felt a lil' cheated by my waiter's mis-information regarding the rib-eye. The steak wasn't bad and the other dishes my colleagues had were pretty good. I'll try to select a more Mediterranean dish and if I find that still a bit disappointing, I may have to come back on here and update my review. read more

In a town such as Helena you have to really be on top of your game when it comes to local business. I've given the Mediterranean Grill a few tries. Always the same experience. Is the food ok? Sure. Is the service ok? Sure. Today for lunch three of us ordered the spinach salad, only to be told they were out of prosciutto. The grocery store is a few blocks down the road. Also, out of about ten other key ingredients. Any chance of substitutions? Nope. Service times were over 30 minutes after ordering. I think I've illustrated the point. I will not be returning. Back to the staples. The ones that always perform in Helena. Probably why they are always busy, always consistent, and why they have been around forever. read more

I'm giving this place three stars because the food and the service were good. My husband and I went with another couple and we all enjoyed our meals. The prices however are absurdly high. I didn't feel that the food, as good as it was, merited the high price tag. Nothing we had was super fancy or difficult to make, and at least two of the meals we had were vegetarian. The decor is pretty awful/tacky and definitely does not merit the menu prices. As another reviewer mentioned the seating is uncomfortable at best. I was actually wedged in between the table and the person's chair behind me and I had to sit at an angle to the table to avoid constantly bumping into them. So bottom line the food is good but I probably won't go here again unless someone else is paying. read more

I went with some family to celebrate my cousin's college graduation and was not disappointed! Our server was both friendly and knowledgable. The swordfish kabob I had was excellent as was the rest of the food my family ordered. If I ever make it back to Helena, I'll definitely be back. read more

Food was very good, what I don't care for when I am dining is a waiter or waitress telling me what I have to order and if I choose different they fight you on changing your mind. Once order was in the waiter ignored us until the food arrived and ignored us again until the bill was dropped off. he wasn't to happy refill drinks and was more concerned with talking to other customers. read more

We just left this restaurant & had the worst service we've ever had. I ordered the Shrimp Kabob & it came to me cold & I told the waitress & she never said anything & took it back to the kitchen & I think they just popped back on the grill & heated a tad more. It did seem warmer when she brought it back but it had no flavor along with the rice & vegetables. I normally get this fish & it's always been very good. We sat forever waiting to tell her that I wasn't satisfied & finally she did say she was sorry but no one even tried to the rectify the problem. Visiting Helena, we had a difficult time finding "local" restaurants (place where they don't serve airport, hotel or casino food). After 2 days of mediocre food we finally found this restaurant for dinner. Granted, the prices are not cheap. However, coming from Seattle, I must say I received the check and happily left a significant tip. The service was excellent. The wine list is extensive. The food was delicious. When we arrived, I let the waitress know that I am gluten intolerant. She happily brought a side of cut veggies to go with our appetizer, as I could not eat the flat bread. Through the rest of the meal, she was ready to point out which dishes were gluten free, and even helped me choose a desert that I would not regret later. Her knowledge of food intolerances and allergies was wonderful and made for a much more pleasant dining experience. Our party ordered: Hummus, Muhammara & Bisara, Shrimp kabob with greek salad, Shish kabob with greek salad, Beef tenderloin medalians with portobello mushrooms and a house salad, a wonderful bottle of Italian wine, Creme Caramel, Kunefe and Turkish coffee. Our dining experience lasted for 2 hours, was not rushed in any way (even when we were the last people in the restaurant), and each course was served at just the right time. It was a relaxing evening during a busy weekend and we enjoyed every minute of it. read more

The best gluten-free pasta ever. The regular pasta lasagna dish was very good, but with three gluten-free diners, finding a meal that satisfies all can be a challenge. The Mediterranean Grill met the challenge, providing gluten-free rigatoni in both bolognese and alfredo sauces that matched any wheat pastas out there. Good service, good wine, lots of options. I have eaten here 3 times and none have been good. The food is decent, however my wife and I ordered two of their signature dishes and the waitress told us they were missing the main ingredients in both! Plus the had no bagettes even though there is a bakery next door. Very strange. Water was rarely filled and the patio area is falling apart. May go back someday but not likely. read more

Went for dinner with 2 friends. They ordered the special - shrimp in an apricot sauce with veg over rice. I ordered chicken brochettes. Right away my friends both said the apricot sauce was way too sweet. And the rice and veg were swimming in the sauce. They mentioned it to the waitress. She didn't offer any recourse - at all - my friends finally asked if they could have some extra plain rice. She said ok - and brought a bowl of rice - for them to share. Without any serving utensil. She's wearing a mask but assumes that my friends - who aren't related - want to use their utensils - which they have already used - to dish up some rice. My friends asked her to share their feedback with the chef - she actually said the chef didn't take feedback well. Um ok. Then she asked if we wanted dessert. We asked for the check. She didn't charge extra for the plain rice but there was no offer of a discount or dessert or anything. My chicken brochettes was delish. But we won't be back. read more

For the price, I either ordered the wrong thing or the prices here are way out of line and the service is non existent. To get a waitress to notice you on the patio was impossible. We did have a great appetizer which was an assortment of Hummus and other Greek specialties and some nice wine. Even after they took your order, an hour wait for an entree is unacceptable. I ordered steak - thinking I was in Montana and it would be great. WRONG! I ordered it medium rare and it was well done. We could never find a waitress to fix the problem so I ate the vegetables which were fresh and great. When the waitress arrived she said that they would fix it even though I said I did not want it. Finally, after 15 minutes, they decided to give us a refund for the food. Do not go here if it is busy or you want attentive service. They do not know what customer service is or how to treat their diners. No manager should let what happens here continue. There only redeeming factor is the patio which is large and overlooks the town and hills of Helena. read more

When I started making trips to helena,mt - I thought I was going to have a challenging time figuring out Vegetarian food. Went to Mediterrenean Grill on the second day for lunch and found that the veggie pita sandwich there was really high quality. Also had the lentil soup (not sure about the base - I adopted a "Don't ask, Don't tell policy" on that one!) which was fantastic. Did exactly the same thing when I went back a month later. I think the food is real good and compares real well against some of the more hyped mediterrenean restaurants near DC metro area and SF area. Will definitely go there again when I get back to Helena. read more

This is a great spot when you are in the mood for something different. We love going here on summer evenings to enjoy appetizers and wine on the patio. While their regular menu is decent, I recommend checking out the daily specials - we have had great luck trying new things this way. They probably have the most extensive wine selection in Helena, and wine specials are available too. Service is usually very good, but can be hit or miss when they are busy. Overall, this is a great spot to go for a change of pace - we are lucky to have this restaurant in Helena. read more

Planned a special trip to the Mediterranean Grill for the first time with a party of seven and will never, never, NEVER return! The service was absolutely the poorest we have ever had in our lives. There was a table of 16 behind us and the waiter was clearly focused on that table alone. Our table, as well as the smaller tables beside us that he was also assigned, were abandoned after the initial drink and food orders. Coffees and drinks were not refilled. Salads were forgotten. It took a full 2-hours for dinner to be served, and the food was not redeeming. We had originally planned to order desserts, but the option was never given. Management should have stepped up to make things right and to keep us as returning guests. Instead, the host took $15 off of a bill totaling $153.05 and had the audacity to say that we "would be saving money because usually when people are disgruntled with the service, they don't tip the waiter and get a little money back that way." Offensive to say the least. Needless to say, not a one of us will be returning to the Helena Mediterranean Grill, but we will surely be their best advertising to everyone in the future. read more
