While I waited for over 20 minutes to get a water refill, didn't dare to get my wine glass refilled (they might have made more money). Our meal took over 2.5 hours and we arrived at 5:30pm on a Monday night.....this was not a Saturday night at 7pm (prime time hours). Overall cute place, patio is great for nice meal outside and the food was good. I am extremely sadden by how poorly this place is managed, the hostess, while being a bus boy/girl down it was that clear, the hostess would clear a table to the next table so the dirty dishes would pile up (next to us of course) and attract more flies instead of being a team player and clearing a finished table. Our server a frantic mess could NOT even clearly communicate about the delays, her communication skills lacked professionalism and promptness. She did not offer any reasonable solutions and due to her lack of communication and poor service her tip matched the lack of effort. I have been a steady patron of this restaurant for many years. As always, the food is perfectly prepared and delicious. However, for the first time our service was not acceptable and as such I will probably not have dinner with them for a long time, if ever again. First, our water glasses were dirty and when we asked for new water glasses the waiter said "they look fine to me". Well numerous fingerprints and food particles on the rim of the glass is not acceptable to me. Um, isn't the customer always right? I believe this started the downhill slide from mediocre service to downright rude. We ordered an appetizer and when finished we waited for our dinner salads to arrive. About 20 minutes later we had to flag down the waiter to bring our salads. He then asked if I wanted another glass of wine, which I said yes. Shortly thereafter our main course arrived but not the second glass of wine. When he came to collect plates at the end, I said, "Never mind about the second glass of wine, we're ready to leave." He again stated, "Oh I thought you said no to a second wine" and then turned and left. What the hee haw? Again, customer is always right - no apology and rude behavior from the waiter. It came with soup or salad and I got the soup de jour and it was a Moroccan chicken and vegetable stew and it was amazing. My husband had the seafood linguine and that was also delicious. Wonderful! We didn't plan on stopping in Helena, but it was meant to be. After checking in to ou hotel, we asked for a recommendation from the front desk. The Mediterranean Grill really gets what it means to dine. The food had great combinations of flavors amd the portion sizes were just right, thus leaving room for other courses. I could sense just from reading the menu that the owner has a passion for food. He provided a detailed description of each dish as well as each wine on their fabulous wine list. The staff was professional while also being welcoming, accommodating, and friendly. It was only my husband and I, but by the time we left, we felt as though we visited family and friends. It was back in June 2021 that we visited Helena, so hopefully this restaurant has stepped up its game by now. I just saw that I hadn't left a review. I was disappointed. I just ordered a Greek Salad. I picked up our orders to take back to our hotel, and upon opening it, I saw the salad was basically just greens with no feta and Kalamata olives. I called the restaurant back and they explained they must have mixed it up with someone else's. So back we drove and I think we waited almost 20 minutes for them to bring the right order back. They were friendly but seemed disorganized. I should have just ate what I had because it ended up being a pretty lackluster Greek salad. The restaurant looked very nice inside. Maybe patrons who actually ate in the restaurant got better service. read more

We ordered the appetizer sampler and chose the Tapenade, Muhammara and Bisara. The Muhammara has a nice, sweet-spicy taste of the peppers and pomegranate molasses in it and was my favorite. The Bisara was similar to hummus, not as pasty but had good influence of mint and cilantro, like a chutney! Also ordered the Souvlaki (pork loin, veggies and basmati rice). The veggies were crisp and fresh but the pork kabobs were a bit drier than we expected them to be. The ambience was very relaxing, nice wall murals and we were not made to feel rushed at any time. The food should make this review 5 star; but the service would make it a 1 star (and the only reason it would get any star is that I got a refill on my soda without asking). The food: Egyptian chicken sandwich, salmon salad, gyro, caprese, soup - all amazingly good. Salmon was crisp on the outside, flakey and moist inside. The salad dressing was delicious and a perfect complement. The caprese was a perfect starter for our group, the soup was delicious, the gyro was one of the best we've eaten. The chicken was really good. The service (or lack of): wow, I've been served at quick service restaurants by teenagers and had better service. The hostess was unsure about where to seat us - six seemed to flummoxe her, so she showed us to a round table set for five and ask it it was ok - it was perfect. She then disapppeared and after about 10 minutes we went looking for menus. We finally got menus and a beverage order taken, we'd now been here 40 minutes. Then the real wait began. At one point we tried flagging down a server and one looked right at us and proceeded to ignore us as we were not in her section. We wondered if the chicken really was coming from Egypt! We waited 40 minutes after ordering and I finally went in search of our server. She was completely nonplussed and unconcerned, blaming the kitchen (although we saw other tables seated after us get their food). I suspect she didn't put in the order, but I cannnot confirm. The food finally arrived - in stages - with the soup first (warm but not hot), then four orders out and then we had to wait for the final item. No apology, no manager checking in on us, nothing. No follow up. Nothing. It was appallingly awful. We had to extend our parking we were there so long- we arrived at 12:15 and left just before 3pm! I want to go back, because the food was so good. But not sure I am interested in being ignored and treated so poorly - that is a high price! read more

We asked for it without the Alfredo as my husband had dairy intolerance. The appetizer was excellent (hummus, bisara and the tapenade). Highly recommend. I had the spinach salad for my entree and it was also delicious. But the rigatoni took a long time to come, and when it finally did, it had a little bolognese and was very dry. We asked for an extra dish of marinara, but it took so long my husband finally went it and got it himself. Our server rarely came to check on us. I've loved this place for many years. The food is great MOST of the time. The service is also great MOST of the time. It's not consistent all of the time however. We have many out of town family/visitors traveling to MT pretty much every summer. I've suggested this place many times when they're visiting but my husband always shuts me down due to these issues. So we end up going to On Broadway where we know we can expect to have a great meal and great service. Consistency is very, very important. I have had lunch here recently and ordered a pasta that I've had many times. It was a bit dry so I asked my server if it would be possible to get a tiny bit extra white and red sauce. When my bill came I saw that I was charged $2.50 for EACH sauce. Wow! $5 extra for them not making it correctly? I even would've been okay if when I asked my server for the "extra" sauces she would've been able to let me know that there would be an extra charge. If I knew it would've cost me $5 more for that I would've just eaten my meal and saved myself the extra money! I hate to leave a bad review but I know how hard it can be financially for a couple to go out for a rare, special night and spend a lot of money that when thought of later could've been spent for other practical purposes. They should be able to say later that it was worth the cost. I hope that Mediterranean Grill will make some changes. read more

Nice little finer-dining restaurant with an intimate yet casual vibe. I've visited a handful of a times now and have been very fond of the combination of small plates, wine, and unique entrees. Would be nice to see a cocktail menu or daily specials but I can't complain about the food much. One kicker I can't get past is the poor customer service and the unorganized atmosphere. The space is small and each visit has come with the feeling that I was creating an inconvenience towards the already short staff on hand. I was super excited to try this place, after passing it numerous times over the past year. I finally got an opportunity to stop in for dinner. I was really disappointed in my dining experience here. Our service was wonderful. It's the only thing keeping me from giving this one star. The food, not only was it over priced, it was bland and extremely unsatisfying. The portions are tiny for how much they charge. I ordered an entree with veal and I am not even sure if I was served actual veal. It was grey, flat and chewy. I was anxious after I ate a couple of bites and was unable to finish. There was a gelatinous, melted slop of cheese on top that instantly made my stomach sick. I felt like I was on an episode of kitchen nightmares. My husband was very unsatisfied with his entree as well. The ambiance wasn't bad but it the place could use a little updating. I was nearly in shock when I saw our bill. I'm not one to complain on the spot as I will gripe here but I will not return on this place nor will I recommend it to anyone I know. read more

We arrived just after 6:00 PM and were excited to sit on the lovely Patio. Also sittin on the patio with friends was the owner of the restaurant. Thirty five minutes after being seated, we had not recieved menus and had only be recognized by the hostess who brought us waters and silverware after my brother complained. The hostess shared w the server team that we had not been acknowledged. Three minutes later a server finally came over and shared that they were sorry and will bring over a wine list right away. Seven minutes later, approximately 47 minutes after being seated, we walked out. The absolute worst service I have ever experienced in my life. Blown away that the restaurant owner was not more receptive of the satisfaction of his guests. Although the unique fare is intriguing, the service is disgustingly bad!!! read more

Cute little spot in Helena, Montana, which is a town you should try to visit. We were on a quick drive through to Yellowstone from Seattle, and only had time for a leisurely lunch, but we loved this gold rush town with its domed state capital and its brownstone downtown, complete with a mix of Victorian and Edwardian wooden homes and mansions stretching out around the downtown. We were seated outside on a sunny summer afternoon, and although service was on the leisurely side considering this was a quick detour from our roadtrip, we were greeted by friendly staff and waited on by the owner, who worked hard to accommodate our requests and make the experience a nice one for our small family. We ordered lamb kabobs (small sizing on this item), a salmon salad, a kids plate and some great summer Kolsch on tap. The salmon on our salad was perfectly done --a nice piece of fish, not overcooked, very moist. We enjoyed a nice, slow meal outside on the patio at Mediterranean Grill, along with a busy group of Helena locals, and appreciated the hospitable host who told us he found a home here, becoming a Helena resident twenty years ago. I can see the appeal of this quaint state capital, which reminded me of my native San Francisco and its wood Victorians alongside adopted Seattle, with its Ballard brown brick business district. read more

Great little place, minus a star because the food came out very slow. My boyfriend and I met for lunch, and he was pressed for time. He only had about an 1hr & 10 min, so make sure you have time! The chef did come over and apologize for it taking so long, that was nice! We shared an appetizer called "Spinakopita" which was very tasty. He ordered a Gyro, & I had the "Egyptian chicken Sandwich" I never got to taste his gyro because he had it boxed and had to leave, but the Egyptian chicken was very good, but nothing to write home about. I thought this a fairly sweet restaurant. Unfortunately, I felt very uncomfortable. I didn't get a warm feeling and they don't have booths. Everyone is sitting at tables like a cafeteria. The water was nasty; obviously tab water. I got an iced tea, which tasted as bad as the water. A local told me, "They must let the water sit. The longer our tap water sits, the more it has that yucky taste." She was probably right. I ordered the chicken cacciatore with rice pilaf and a cup of some mystery soup. That tasted great, it just looked regurgitated. My entree was very good. So much food, even this big girl couldn't finish. The staff seemed pretty nice, even though the guys looked liked men from the movie "Fight Club". I was amused. read more
