This little place is such a gem! It may be unassuming from the outside, but once you step through the door, the husband and wife duo welcome you in with open arms. This was our first time here and we will definitely be coming back. We were asked if it was our first time and we said yes, and we're greeted with information about the menu, the types of food they offer and their specialties. You can definitely tell that everything that is made in that kitchen is made with love and care. The gentleman was even able to tell us how many spices are in his rice and seasonings that it takes to make the baba ghanoush we had the lunch special. I had the beef Shawarma and my husband had the lamb Shawarma lunch special. They were both delicious. It was a lot of food for only $18. I would highly recommend the garlic and tzatziki sauce. My family and I have been coming to Mediterranean Grill for years. I have noticed a decline in their service and tonight I felt extremely uncomfortable as I heard the Cook yell at his staff member several times. Then a group came in and he yelled at them for not calling ahead, then proceeded to yell that it was rude and that they can go home and make their own food. I didn't like having my kids be subjected to his yelling and we tried to speed up our time by paying as quickly as possible and getting out of there. I find it inappropriate to yell at anyone for trying to give you business. read more

My family and I really wanted to like this place, but the food and its price is unfortunately not worth another try. We ordered the lamb schwarma, the chicken kabob plate, and a side of tabouli. The lamb schwarma were pieces of what looked like lamb gryo, but that was cooked partly on a pan, with some hummus, lettuce, cucumbers, and A LOT of pickles. The lamb was not very flavorful, and the main flavor that I got was pickles based on the sheer amount of it in my sandwich. The chicken kabob plate came on a bed of rice, hummus, and pita bread. The rice was clumpy and it tasted like it was cooked with old oil, and the hummus was also not seasoned well and tasted more like a tahini sauce than hummus. The chicken was OK. The tabouli...was not good. I would not recommend this dish. I will leave it at that. It was not fresh. That being said, I do agree with the other reviewers that the portion sizes are generous, and could feel you for multiple meals. But because of the quality of the food, I don't know if those meals would be necessarily tasty... I had high hopes for a mediterranean restaurant in the area, and wish I could I had a better experience, but I unfortunately would recommend taking the time to drive to the city and going elsewhere. read more

I'm gonna get a little emotional here. The entire point of food, apart from sustenance, is gathering, memories, moments spent with someone, sharing something. I realize it's out of the ordinary, but this place brought back so many memories of my grandpa and my first Dunkin' Donuts as a kid. Sitting on the front porch of our house on 65th between Powell and Foster in the morning sun, my grandpa is peeling me an orange, and I remember watching him thinking he had very strong fingernails because back in the day oranges were hefty and he went through that like Superman's cutting the mist. As we were sharing the orange, he had a cloth bag and out of it he pulled a dozen donuts. My family never experienced anything like that previously! I only have one memory of meeting the man, he is oranges, sunrises and my frosting filled doughnut. The entire time my hubs and I were eating our absolutely delicious, fresh and flavorful Mediterranean food. My eyes were stuck on the worn out Dunkin donut certificate near the register. As we were getting ready to leave our table and walk up to pay, I told my husband about the frosting filled donut from my grandpa and that I could see them on the shelf. Each step closer to the shelf my heart sank as I realized they were jelly and custard filled. My eyes were frantically scanning, and my brain was trying to justify getting something similar to reenact my moment with grandpa, the memory, but I to caught a glimpse of an unmarked tray at the very end, there were two donuts, 2 chocolate frosting filled donuts. The treasured classic, nearly cleared out but just enough for us. All the other food is good. Not gonna lie I'm terrified of food that is not common to my upbringing, which is very anti-yelp, but I had the lamb and it was amazing! And there was no gaminess, the mint was an excellent complement, and the spices were so Comforting. I have to throw something else really weird in here, yellow rice, so floral and perfectly spiced would be absolute heaven with a little bit of milk and sprinkle sugar for breakfast. Also, I had the strawberry lemonade, and it clearly was some kind of powder mix, but even that added to the layer of nostalgia to my dinner. Nothing was disappointing in any way. First, the food portions are very generous. The shawarma (gyros) are huge. We got the "lunch special" offered for dinner which was a half shawarma with cauliflower and falafel combo and it was filled with veggies and sauce. You can choose a veggie or protein to go inside. The special comes with 2 side choices and chose the hummus and salad and it was delicious. We also got a "lunch special" shrimp kebab plate that also came with two sides and we chose baba ghanoush and rice. We also got a cauliflower salad. We were also served two pitas on the side. Everything was very fresh and flavorful. The owner/manager was also very friendly and helpful in informing us about portion sizes and popular items. We ate plenty and have leftovers for the next day. We also got a chocolate date and pistachio ball, baklava, and ice cream. The pistachio ball was tasty and not too sweet. The baklava was yummy and sweet. Stopped in 30 minutes before closing, and was welcomed in heartily with a friendly voice. The Mediterranean Grill has gorgeous Egyptian artwork on each table that glows in the dark. The murals on the wall are of Syria and Greece. The food is some of the absolute best. We were given hot fresh falafel as a gift since we had never been there before with tahini sauce. The lamb was grilled medium rare perfectly. The chicken kebab was juicy. The rice was fluffy, the pita soft, the salad refreshing. The baklava was fresh, lightly sweet and crunched with each bite. The chocolate pistachio date candy melted in my mouth. They also make fresh delicious looking donuts every morning and Arabic coffee, that I will be trying very soon. "Grandma" Fadi and his sister Feirouz are from Lebanon and have run the grill for 13 years. I highly recommend their food and hospitality. read more

Have been here one time in the five years I've lived here and I live 5 min away. Stopped in on impulse to pick up a few sides to go with my grilled Greek chicken waiting at home. I was met by a very unfriendly woman who wanted to know if I was picking up food or what. When I told her I actually wanted to order a few things to go, she rolled her eyes and told me to sit and she'd be back. I get that she was the only person there and the tables were fairly full but it was clear she was not happy I walked in. After waiting about 10 min she walked over and asked what I wanted. When I told her I just wanted an order of hummus and an order of Tzatziki, she told me it was going to be a LONG wait. So I opted to leave. She was relieved. If she was so overwhelmed that she couldn't handle the business, she could have explained herself. All I know is, I won't be back to try again. read more

Oh my goodness the food is delicious! Hubby and I went for a late lunch/early dinner. First we ordered the hummus and pita which was an incredible serving, more than enough, with a delicious large container of homemade hummus and the pita was as warm and as soft as it could be. So far, it has lasted two day and should last two more. We also purchased the grape leaves, plenty to nibble on with a great tzatziki sauce. Finally, Hubby had the lamb skewers and I had the chicken skewers. SO delicious! You cannot beat (1) the Flavors (2) the Portions. Every bite of your meal is filled with so much incredible flavor from the rice to the onions and potatoes to the protein. Amazing. This place has the best shawarmas! And they're huge and only 15$. The owners are a very sweet old couple who work really hard. The shawarmas are really big, one half is enough for one person. I usually get one and share. They're packed with meat and vegetables with a delicious sauce. Definitely try with the garlic and tahini sauce. Went here for lunch with my parents! Is was so good! 15.95 for a ginormous chicken shawarma with the sides baba ganoush and tabouli!! We also got the jalapeño hummus, it was the perfect flavor and looked so beautiful! Go here with your family or with whoever, so good. Excellent French fries. Seriously. They were perfectly cooked. The shawarma was very good. I would prefer a bit more spice as others have mentioned, but the food was still very good. It should be noted that this is probably due to a geographic issue. Different regions use different recipes and spices. Ask for more spice. They also give you options for other sauces such as tahini that are more Greek. There are cheaper places to get a shawarma, and I've honestly had better shawarmas in Portland, but All in all, it was well worth the 5 stars. I would come back on a heartbeat, if only for the fries. Portions were generous. I didn't try their donuts but they look terrific. I'm guessing that that is part of the reason that they cook the fries so perfectly. And now they gave me a free baklava! We just finished dinner at awesome Noodle Man next door and remembered some accolades about the Pistachio ice cream at Mediterranean Grill. Yup, that's some good (homemade) ice cream! There's chunks of semi-crunchy pistachios in every bite. This is not the "green" variety found in most supermarket freezers. What was a let down is they serve it with whipped cream...I'm not a fan of the combination nor a traditional sundae. Moreover, it seems like it was the out of a can, the Reddi Wip kind. Some thick creme fresche would definitely be an upgrade. Actually, drizzle some honey on their marquee dessert and they have a winner-winner rather than just a winner. 35 people needed a post-funeral reception on a Monday. I live in CA but was tasked with choosing a place...called the wonderful owners of this little strip-mall located eatery. They closed the restaurant for us! The food was beyond amazing - and just kept coming! This was a military funeral and these delightfully patriotic middle eastern immigrants put out American flags for our group. The final cost was staggeringly LOW-including wine. We were sure it was an error. Do not be put off by the location and simple decor- this place is a gem and far better food than many overpriced Portland eateries - plus, plenty of free parking.
