Our family had a 7-day and 6-night trip to the Pacific Northwest. We prioritized trying different bakeries for breakfast. An Xuyen Bakery is located at the corner with a small parking lot. The bakery does not have any seating. The display cases were well stocked when we visited on a Saturday afternoon at 1 pm. We tried the following: Steamed bun with meatball Double dark chocolate cream horn Pandan sponge cake Thousand layers coconut ube Coconut tart Black sesame mochi donut Pastry with mung bean Everything from traditional Vietnamese baked goods to Vietnamese-French fusion baked goods were excellent. My favorite are the steamed bun with meatball and black sesame mochi donut. The steamed bun was soft and the filling included meatball, quail egg, and Chinese sausage. The black sesame mochi donut was crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, and abundantly filled with black sesame paste. I saw several patrons ordering banh mi and would love to revisit and try those. Cash payment is preferred so be prepared!

First time at An Xuyen and it was good. Picked up a Bahn mi and a cookie for lunch. The lady behind the counter was super nice and they have a ton of pastries to choose from. They have something called a hotdog roll which I need to try on my next trip. Good sandwich too. I'm glad to find another spot on the list for a quick inexpensive lunch.

Basic bahn mi. Skimpy on the filling. Lemongrass pork. Quickly made. Fresh crusty bread. Partition between workers and customers. Masks worn. Little parking. Overpriced desserts. Cheap sandwiches. Busy place with food packages up inside for grab n go. Not really much seating. Worth it for the bahn mi.

Very reasonably priced bakery!! The bbq pork bun and malasada donuts were absolutely delicious!!! Line was a little long at 2pm on a Sunday, but well worth the wait. The ladies who helped me were very kind :)

Visiting for graduation and was on a mochi hunt. Trekked deep into Portland for this Ube Mochi Donut Atmosphere: No frills Vietnamese cafe and bakery. Pastry cases grab your eye as soon as you enter grab you want from below or make not of what you need the cashier to grab when you order. There shaded picnic tables to eat your food in the parking lot. Food: Less than $20 for a diet coke, ube mochi donut, ube mochi cake and the best pork banh mi Ive maybe ever had . Cant beat that. I was a bit disappointed by the mochi cake and mochi donut. The donut was greasy and the colored sugar they use added a strange flavor. I wasnt that disappointed though since I ate em both.

The service and the food were amazing! They have so many options. We mainly got bakery items but I will be back for a banh mi or bao!

I'm glad I found this little bakery! I've only tried their banh mi so far, but I can't wait to go back and try other things. The place was absolutely full of delicious looking pastries. My sandwich was really tasty and very cheap. Definitely a cute little place.

They open very early. Legit spot for pastries, Banh Mi, Vietnamese snacks and coffee. They prefer cash but can do credit card. Banh Mi has good portions and knock out authentic flavor. Go for the combo or the bbq pork Banh mi. Cold Vietnamese coffee will give you a nice boost for the day

Everything in here was mediocre but the caramel cupcake and pistachio cookie. The service was terrible, their services was divided and as much as I bought the cupcakes got tossed without care as you can see in one of the photos. If the food was great with an attitude I wouldn't care but most of the stuff I could've made better at home.

Heard about An Xuyen's Bakery and their cheap and delicious banh mi's MADE by Vietnamese merchants. Had to and glad I made a stop by. They have a small lot and lost of street parking. Once you walk in their humble space, you'll see the banh mi menu overhead, and TONS of breads. Some pre-packaged, and others freshly made like their malasadas, thousand layered bread, pandan jelly cakes, etc. They also have a refrigerated section for those wanting slices of cake or occasion cakes. The entire time I was there, there was a line out the door. Most of the wait comes from ordering, as many of us ordered multiple items. The single sweet Vietnamese man was taking orders and ringing people up, and there were a few aunties in the back prepping and running out orders. Most people got to go, but they do have some outdoor picnic tables to dine in. Zero indoor space. My favorite items were their grilled chicken banh mi (SO flavorful with the lemongrass) the french bread is fire, perfectly airy but also with the initial crunch. They don't skimp on the goodies. I also enjoyed their sugared malasada donuts. The thousand layer bread was a little too dense for me, especially with the ube cream filling. OOF it was immediately like *full stomach* 100% recommend those missing Asian baked goods to take a pitstop at the Vietnamese bakery An Xuyen!

For the better part of two decades, An Xuyen has been one of the most popular banh mi places in Portland's ultra competitive Viet food scene. They had a great start, solidifying a fan base that largely remains loyal today and are now offering a myriad of items that go beyond Vietnamese sandwiches. The good news is that they're a true bakery. Unlike a lot of dedicated banh mi shops that only sell baguettes and some Vietnamese snacks, An Xuyen has an incredible array of baked goods and pastries that would put the average bakery to shame. From croissants and cake pops to cookies and cakes, it's hard not to peruse all the delicious items they have in their display cases each day. The fact the store is so small (mainly standing room), it really feels like a clutter of pastries of all varieties. However, the banh mi has lost its initial mojo since their heydey. They now only sell bbq pork (xa xiu), meatball (xiu mai), shredded pork (bi), followed by combination (thit nguoi), nem nuong, paté, chipotle chicken (#1), pulled pork, pork belly, tuna sandwich, along with a couple of veggie meat options. The baguettes themselves are fine, but the skimping of the butter, paté, and meat portions are disappointing. I do think that savvy banh mi enthusiasts aren't going to be too impressed with the current state of affairs. Prices are rising everywhere, which is definitely being felt out here. The prices for banh mi are getting closer to the $6 mark and their ube mochi is .99 each. The service is also subjective as well, where as the owner (with glasses?) is sweet while the other woman is not the warmest. They also have a limited dedicated parking lot and accept credit cards but cash is preferred. I'll definitely come back to try the non-Viet items but will cool it with the sandwiches for now. Banh bao, pate so, and cakes? Sign me up. ___________ (#1) Wait, what?

This is the entire inside. There are picnic tables outside but this is primarily a take out place.

This place is a gem! Who knew that a Vietnamese sandwich shop could also have so many tasty baked treats! Just go there and buy anything. It's all good. But be prepared to wait for a few minutes. There are always 3 people in line!

I love Pix, both old school and post-COVID iterations…read more Back in the day PIX was for late nights, and honestly I don't really know what their actual schedule is now. They're essentially 24/7 because during Covid they made the incredibly bizarre and ingenious move to put their insanely beautiful patisserie in old school slot-style cafeteria vending machines. So during isolation one could run out in your mask and gloves, stay six feet away from the person behind you, and yank open any door to reveal an amazing little dessert behind each one. It was a taste of restaurants (professional desserts!!!) that we all missed so much. But it wasn't a gimmick that went away like the closed bubble dining pods. The cafeteria vending machines have stayed. I've picked up multiple different styles to have lots of dessert options at a birthday, I've stopped there in the middle of the night for an after-hospital cheering up, it's basically made for wandering over after making love any time of day or night. They somehow stay beautiful, fresh, and delicious in this little gimmicky machine. It's fun, whimsical, and I think some of the best patisserie in town.

Desserts are nice and cold and for those with food allergies, allergens are neatly labeled on both the informational placard on the side and on the box. The staff keep the machine stocked pretty regularly so there's always something tasty inside. I went with the lemon curd tart this time and it was delicious! Prices for an individual sized treat runs about $12-16 overall.
