Just got this this afternoon to go. It's supposed to be a Ruben sandwich. I can taste the burnt bread throughout the sandwich.

Burnt bread. I'd be embarrassed giving someone a to go bag with this burn of bread on a sandwich. Your not?

    Just a classic, great value

Old School at its best! "Grandma" the owner is so kind and proud of her business. The chicken fried steak might be pre-fab, but the delicious thick gravy more than makes up for it. Eggs and hash browns were cooked to perfection. This place screams value as the portion is generous. And there's no inner-Portland BS such as: standing in line, automatic tips, health and cost of living fee, get your own utensils, bus your own stuff, etc.

My wife found this place on Yelp while searching for a place to get breakfast in the morning. We arrived in Portland very late and got settled into our hotel after midnight. We knew we would sleep in and arrived just about noon on a Friday. The restaurant is small but they also have outdoor seating. We were seated right away and provided menus. My wife told me that she had read many of the reviews complimenting the gravy so that helped me to chose the chicken fried steak special while my wife chose the Monroe omelet with German sausage. We also ordered a side of bacon. We also noticed they offer free coffee for veterans which is a nice touch. While we waited for our food there was a steady stream of to go orders being picked up. It also appears many of the customers are local because the staff knew them by name. Our food arrived in a timely manner and looked delicious. My wife did comment that she was expecting fresh jelly based on our server mentioning the various flavors when we ordered our meals but it was packaged jelly. Everything was piping hot and delicious. I've never ordered chicken fried steak and had it served in a bowl with the pieces already cut up but it was great. My wife also enjoyed her meal and couldn't remember the last time she had German sausage and she really enjoyed it. We would highly recommend!

This place should get a 5 for the helpful staff itself. When we arrived there was a gentleman helping an elderly woman to her car. We thought they came together. Only to walk in and sit down and moments later be greeted by the same young man that was just outside helping the woman to the car. He filled our orange juices to the rim and spilt it all over the table, but cleaned it up quickly. Tried the pancakes - large portions and good and moist Monte cristo 3 deluxe - wasnt quite my taste. Although having ham, turkey and cheese in the sandwich was great - i wasnt expecting feench toast as the bread that sandwiched it. The sweetness of the bread with the cheese and mayo ir whatever was with the meats didnt appeal to me. The staff was friendly and if youre indeed looking for an authentic "grammas corner kitchen" this is it -complete with knick knacks, wooden fork and spoon on the wall, old telephone and everything! Its a 3 star rating but the pleasant and hempful sraff and interactings with the elderly regulars boosted it up a star

Great service and a cute older diner with great food at a reasonable price. A wide breakfast selection and cozy feeling.

corned beef hash. very ample and pretty tasty!

i wish yelp allowed half star ratings, because this would be more of a 3.5 stars than a 4. at any rate, this restaurant is pretty good. standard 'merican fare, and done pretty well. breakfast stuff is good. pictured here is my corned beef hash breakfast. was expecting canned corned beef a la denny's or something, but nope, it was made from scratch and quite good. the service was fine, nothing phenomenal, but it wasn't bad either. but lastly, the setting was a straight up transportation to anywhere, midwest smalltown america. i swear i thought i was IN hastings nebraska or something. i guess that's part of the charm. nevertheless, food was good and place overall was fine. i'm sure i'll return if i'm in the milwaukie area, which is a quaint little "main street" type of town. dark horse comics is there!

I've been here a few times for breakfast and always leave happy and full. The food comes out fast and the staff is friendly. If you get the pancakes, you will be pleasantly surprised by the size, huge. Additional Notes They have a full breakfast and lunch menu Free coffee for veterans Family owned They have a few fresh pie options Indoor and outdoor seating

Staff was cleaning as they went along. Service was okay. Staff wasnt as welcoming as we felt but our drinks were topped off and we didnt need anything. We called ahead because we couldn't find the childrens menu and they let us know that they did have one so thats a plus since most establishments dont bother posting their kid's menu. Food was okay. My husband got the ozz sandwhich and it looked good but it was wetter than he anticipated. We learned i like rye bread though, so thats a plus. I ordered the sliders with a side of beer mac but the portion sizes was smaller than I thought it would be? I misread or misinterpreted as hawaiian rolls as in buns but not as in dinner rolls. The beer cheese mac was thick. It was good but had a cloying type of consistency. Tots and fries were good. The kid's chicken tenders and fries were just that. Chicken tenders and fries, so no surprise there. Overall for 2 meals, 1 kids, and 2 sodas, we paid about $60. A bit higher than we guessed for a bar but we enjoy supporting local when we can especially when we know they're active in the community.
