An amazing middle Eastern store with every possible cooking ingredient you could possibly want. The staff is also very helpful. Highlights include: a wide variety of tahini, legumes, grains, freshly prepared salads and pita. I highly recommend the fresh pita, baba, and the tabbouleh, which was very verdant and light. I also snagged some delish little green squashes which roasted up like a dream. I will return often. read more

We have shopped there just a few times. My wife is half Lebanese and has learned some dishes from her mom - the usuals like kibbe and grape leaves. Great selection of middle eastern foods, including meats. We shopped for some spices, sauces, and lamb stew meat which turned out to be excellent. Our only mild complaint is that because they are tight on space, many of the aisles were somewhat cluttered with boxes; my wife uses a mobility scooter and had some trouble navigating. But we will put up with that! Good service and welcome from staff, too. read more

Name on the outside says market bakery but don't expect a place to sit and eat. It is a grocery store with a little bakery. If you are looking for halal meat and awesome Mediterranean desserts then this is the place. Tried 3 candy sweets and chicken Filo which just costed me $3 .The Sweets were really amazing but the Filo I felt was over heated but tasted good. This is one of those places I cannot believe I have not reviewed already. I was at one point a semi-regular here and am clearly a fan of the goods. I need to go back as it has been far too long. Sometimes all it takes is one person to mention pita bread though and I will have to make the trek. It is the best pita, in so many sizes your head will spin. Great texture, super fresh, carb freaking heaven. That is not all to crave here though. They also have great hummus, garlic paste, tabbouleh, you name it. Decent baklava and spinach pie, both of which are probably hideous for me but I enjoy them a lot. A great place for reasonable spices, sesame oil, tahini and all manner of things you need to make your own middle eastern feasts. The goods are reasonable and very tasty. This is one of the larger ethnic groceries I've run across yet in the area. In addition to selling dried and canned goods, cheeses and fresh produce, the market has a small deli counter with baba ganoush, falafel, and other items. They also bake fresh pastries right in the same building, and it smells wonderful in there. The day I visited, I picked up some whole milk yogurt which is just an entirely different food than the thin no-fat commercial yogurt you get at the average national grocery chain. It's got a tang to it that Danon and Yoplait will never have, and it's thick and creamy. I also got a savory spinach, feta and onion tart from the bakery. I brought it home, heated it up and devoured it in about four bites-- really good. The staff is friendly and willing to talk to you about what they offer. The clerk who sold me the yogurt and the spinach pie tried to tempt me to get some produce by telling me a fresh shipment had just arrived within the hour. read more

Working in dearborn, i've had great flat bread, but this stuff is legendary. The big pizza size style is the best, and it's soft, supple, with just enough tooth making it the perfect delivery mechanism for garlic sauce or hummus. I'm still a huge fan of the garlic sauce, tabbouleh and hummus here. However, now I'm hooked on the baked goods, too. I've read a few reviews where people talk about how they miss the small pita from LaShish. Well, you can get multiple sizes of pita and other bread fresh out of their big oven here! Today I stopped in for some bread, and watched the folks behind the counter baking while I waited in line. I spotted some croissants, and some looked more like turnovers. However, the "zatar croissant" caught my eye and I had to give one a shot. The flakiness and buttery quality of the pastry really was like a croissant, but the center was savory rather than sweet. I'm not rushing back to get one right away, but it's certainly an interesting combination that I'd recommend trying if you're already stopping in to pick up groceries. A note, though -- right now it is especially busy there due to Ramadan, so prepare to wait in a bit of a line. read more

I love this place! I live right across the street from it, so maybe I'm biased. Has bulk grains (bulgur & other stuff that I have no idea what it is), bulk pine nuts, frozen mediterranean food, fresh-baked pitas, tons of dried beans, canned beans, lots of spices (cheap!). Also produce (decent prices, some even cheap) and meat (expensive from my perspective, but I only buy meat that's on sale at Meijer). Basically all the supplies that one might need to make a mediterranean meal. One can buy this stuff at Meijer, but there's usually only one brand to choose from. You have lots of choices here. Cashier was really nice. I've never seen it super-busy, although other shoppers are sometimes really helpful. One lady had a 5 minute long conversation with my sister-in-law on the perfect ratio of tahinin:garbanzo beans for hummus. Be aware- you have to spend at least $10 in order to use a credit card. So when you run across the street just to buy a bag of lentils and only bring your credit card, you'll end up buying lots more stuff! read more

My husband and I love to visit Mediterranean Market for the awesome fresh baked pita and lavash breads. Also has KILLER hummus, garlic paste, grape-leaves and cheeses. The staff are very nice, the breads are extremely cheap: like $2 for 5 tire-sized flat breads. There are sometimes meat or cheese pies in the deli case - these are very tasty, and helpful to assuage any hunger on the ride home with your purchases. This is where I buy my phyllo dough, real yogurt, and Armenian string cheese (which in no-way resembles the processed crap that comes in sticks/plastic at Kroger...that's not string cheese!!) Also good for reasonably priced, boxed, exotic juices for cocktails or parties -- I like to buy a few quarts of passionfruit nectar and mix it into a batch of homemade sangria *it's killer* read more

This market is the best. They have an amazing selection of spices, spice mixes and general cooking stuff. It's the only place in the area where I can get 10 different types of Zatar, pomegranate molasses, barberries and an amazing selection of baked goods in one trip. They have a great deal on Tuesdays where all of the baked goods are discounted, my favorites are the spinach pie, which isn't a Greek style Spanakopita, but a delicious fresh bread filled with slightly spicy and lemony spinach. The meat pies are amazing, great bread with perfectly seasoned beef, and the spicy potato is out of this world. The people who run the place are super helpful, and extremely friendly. I can get in and out in under two minutes with a great fresh lunch. read more

This place is like a 4.5 for me - almost perfect. They have /everything/! A full Arabic grocery store that bakes their own bread and is open seven days a week? How awesome is that? Slight downsides: 1) they sometimes run out of their very yummy non-bread baked goods. On the other hand, their bread is fantastic (the puffy stuff, not the thin stuff, finally I found it!) 2) their spices section is pretty limited, although they have all the basics 3) they serve fresh feta, but no other fresh cheeses (they have plenty you can get packaged out of the fridge) Almost almost the ideal Arabic grocery. Turns out they didn't have what my MIL wanted, but that got us to walk into Mediterranean Market for the very first time. What an awesomely complete grocery store! They have everything you need to cook up a Mediterranean feast, including halal meat and a bakery. The spices are fresh and super-cheap. This summer I had been searching all over town for bulgur (cracked wheat). I had not even found it at Whole Foods, for some reason. They have all different grinds here! After driving by about 100 times, I finally decided to check this place out and am so glad I did! I can't comment on the grocery section as everything I bought was from the bakery. I bough one each of their phyllo- beef, chicken & spinach. The beef was AMAZING, the chicken okay, and the spinach was really spicy for some reason. I'm hoping the spinach isn't always so spicy because other than that, the flavor profile was on point. Their mini pita bread though-- my lawd! Best pita I've tasted in my 30+ years! I'll be back time and time again for their pita. Plus there are a lot of other bakery treats I'd like to try. :) read more

This place is brilliant. Fantastic foods from all over, plus a baker and halal meats prepared for you by a friendly butcher. The dry goods are a real bargain, and I've found several kinds of grape leaves here to make dolmas. The bakery is drool-worthy, and I love their soft, pillowy pita breads. The deli case, full of creamy hummus, spicy garlic sauce and several types of feta is something I can't pass by when I visit. I visited Mediterranean Market today to pick up sumac. This is my first attempt at making fattoush salad. I picked up some Garlic Sauce and fresh pita; it is wonderful! My parents, southern natives, loved it also. I was surprised at the varied spices and ethnic canned goods they carried in addition to Middle Eastern fare. The hummus had no flavor and was watery, the garlic dip was awful, they whip it with egg whites; I did not care for it at all. The baba ghanouj and the cucumber dip (tzatziki) were just okay. It was like they were all watered down. I asked for a 1/2 lb. of each dip, I saw their containers were already made up, however, they did not mention they are all almost a pound, they just grabbed them out of the case and put them with my order. I bought six cheese pies (two of each kind they had) all six were mainly dough very little filling (very little). They do bake the bread there and the fresh pita I purchased was pretty good. Their fresh meats did not look appealing. Their prices from other Middle Eastern markets I have visited are a little high. I spent $36 and was extremely disappointed and much of what I purchased, after tasting, I discarded. I am not from the area but do travel to Ann Arbor several times a year and I would not return to this store. Either go to Dearborn or down to Toledo. Toledo has a couple of very good markets the one on Bancroft Street in Toledo is very good and authentic. read more

All the nuts against the wall were horrible when i for home, like they had the nuts for years in the filthy containers on the wall! Then they have the nerve to have a man walk around the store watching you as if u want to steal town produce! I was floored, trying to pick thru the rotten produce! This is a very good market. Since I have a lot of family that lives in Dearborn and went to U of M-Dearborn for undergrad, on a monthly basis I do my grocery shopping for Middle Eastern goods there. However when I don't have plans to go to Dearborn, I come here to get whatever I need. Try their bakery while you are here! I greatly applaud these guys for bringing manakish to Ann Arbor. Zaatar, meat, cheese, whatever flavor that is available and floats your boat--order it! Manakish is a traditional breakfast food that we eat in the Levant (the Levant being the area of the Middle East that's Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Israel, and Jordan.) Their baked goods are reasonably priced and made fresh. read more

Their hummus is pretty bland and they don't filter out the skins so it isn't that smooth, creamy texture that one expects. Their baba gannoush always tastes like they completely burnt the eggplant when roasting and then just decided to use it anyways. I've gone here several times because, as far as I know, they are the only Middle Eastern style market in the area that has their own bread oven. Therefore, the bread is usually fresh. However, they run out of the different varieties very quickly. So if you don't come before 9-10 in the morning, one might as well forget about going at all. I've tried several of their baked, prepared food options and I'm just not impressed. They really are lacking flavor. Not sure if they are watering down the recipes in the hopes of attracting a more American crowd but, when I want Mediterranean food, I expect flavor, flavor, flavor. Even their cheese pies just taste like they put mozzarella cheese on bread and melted it. Grrr! So wrong!! Roma Bakery on Washtenaw had wonderful cheese pies but, they closed and now I guess my only option again is driving all the way to Dearborn for some good Middle Eastern food. Disappointed that I spent almost $20 on hummus, baba ganoush, a package of small bread, and two cheese pies. Prices are ridiculous for this type of food.
