We ordered a few things to go: - Veggie Spring Roll & Pork Spring Roll; We ate these right away and loved! So crispy and flavorful. - 2 HK style egg tarts and 2 pastel de nata egg tarts; The HK one was good but maybe not the best batch? They tasted very dough-y. However, the Portuguese style tarts were delicious! The pastry is delightfully flaky. - Pineapple Bun w/Coconut Filling; Fantastic flavor, texture was a little dry. Overall I think everything might've benefited more from being eaten right away instead of hours later / next day, but that said, I'm looking forward to getting more Marupo Eats in the future! Heard they might be looking into options for being more available on an ongoing basis, so looking out for that and look forward to supporting. I believe you can also currently order direct from them which is a cool option! Updating to 5 stars after Bennett's (super speedy!) response - I feel confident that this is typically an amazing product and am very excited to have egg tarts available in Ann Arbor!

It's been years since I last visited Hong Kong and Macau and had a good egg tart. You really can't…read morebeat a freshly baked one directly from the oven from Lord Stow's after eating a pork chop bun, or from King Bakery while waiting for your flight at HKG. When I saw that Marupo Eats made authentic egg tarts every Saturday at the Ann Arbor Farmers Market (and in popups all over Ann Arbor), I had to visit. This weekend, they were out of the HK Cookie Crust ones, but they had the Pastel de Nata and some other delicious looking treats in the hot box. Pastel de Nata ($4) - This seem to be more of a Macau-style Portuguese egg tart than Hong Kong Style, with a flaky pastry shell and a nicely browned custard. The first thing I noticed was the size - these are around 2.5inch diameter on the top which seems a bit on the smaller side (although I could be misremembering how big they normally are). We ordered three in total and found these to be a little inconsistent. The first we ate had a very nice, delicately crisp crust, with a sweet and decadent filling. The second one had a very hard and overbaked crust that was hard to chew. I would have thought they were all made in the same batch so it was kind of strange. The guy manning the booth mentioned that they hand make the puff pastry and that they're in the process of moving commercial kitchens, so maybe that could explain the inconsistency? (4/5) Pineapple Bun ($5) - These are a bit smaller than a typical pineapple bun, maybe about half to 2/3 the volume. As I lifted it up, I noticed that it felt very dense for the size. I loved the scored cookie topping - it's well baked with a very nice and rich crunch in addition to having great aesthetics. The construction is pretty unique - in a usual pineapple bun, the crust is in a nice layer right on top of the bun, but this one goes all the way to the bottom and even underneath the bun. As a special twist, there's a bit of coconut paste baked in, which adds a nice coconutty fruitiness. The sweetness overall is very well balanced, not too sweet, which is perfect. The crust on top is delicious, but I think the bun itself might need a bit of work. I found it to be too dense with only very small air pockets, making the bun not fluffy at all (see pictures). I wonder if it's because the thicker and heavier cookie crust layer that surrounds the entire bun isn't allowing the dough to rise? It's still a good pineapple bun but could be better with a fluffier interior. (4/5) We also got a small sample of the hot HK-style milk tea, which I thought balanced the creaminess of the milk and the sweetness well. I'm not an expert, but I'm used to HK-style milk tea that's extremely strong and potent. I found the tea to be a little on the weaker side, but overall the drink was quite pleasant tasting. Marupo Eats has some of the most authentic HK/Macau-style egg tarts and other treats in Michigan. I'd gladly buy from them again whenever I'm at the farmers market and I recommend giving them a try.

I couldn't resist. I got one serving of kunafa. I didn't get the option of adding syrup or pistachio, but the sweetness of the dessert was on point. The top was crunchy and contrasted nicely with the soft cheese underneath. The cheese was pretty creamy and smooth, and had a fresh taste. I have never seen a food truck serving fresh kunafa, so it's wonderful to have the option of enjoying dessert at food festivals!

I loved that the menu indicates which menu items have a smaller carbon footprint - and we happened to be dining there on Earth Day! The food was all flavorful and the perfect temperature, which I appreciated. My favorites were the harissa dip, tabbouleh, and the lasagne verde. The chicken tagine was very good, and we enjoyed the leftovers the next day. The spice roasted cauliflower left us wanting it to be a bit more crispy, but it was a nice side. The gelato is delicious - it's made by Palazzolo's but El Harissa provides them with the unique ingredients for their specialty flavors. They were out of some but we got to sample several. We ended up with the roasted pistachio gelato and the apricot peach cardamom. The texture of the gelato was perfectly creamy and the flavors were strong. The masala fries we had to send back for some more spice. They were kind of plain and wished they were hot. They just seemed like frozen crinkle cut fries with seasoning on top. Don't think we would get them again. The service was OK, but we did wait a while when we first walked in as they were on the phone and we weren't acknowledged right away. They were not busy and we were the only one in the restaurant. They had some nice music playing which added to the experience. Not sure we would return again, but you can give them a try for yourself.
