OK place to stop in for a beer. I always have some complaint about the food though. It doesn't hit like other places in the AV for me. Some folks rave about it but me, I just don't like it. Beans - they aren't traditional smashed refried like I like it. Something is off about them. Maybe they don't use lard or something but I don't like them. Rice - bland. Not much to them maybe a little tomato coloring but not much! Enchilada - weird and not like I've had in other places. Meat was tough and stringy. I didn't finish it at all. Beer - ice cold and perfect! I'm coming for a beer only next time! Service - friendly attentive and efficient. We were happy with the wait staff and also the bar was nice and clean. All in all I have been here a number of times throughout living in AV up to 40 years now and I have never walked away from Medrano's thinking it was a great Mexican meal. Came in today while visiting my mother in law. As soon as we walked in we were greeted and seated right away. Wow the service here was top notch. They seem to have a bar area looks super cool, but unfortunately we don't drink. Anyway the chips, salsa, bean dip and more salsa was yummy while you wait for the food. Someone was always constantly refill our drinks, our chips and salsa. I was really impressed. Our food was great as well. Unfortunately we don't live closer or we would be here all the time. I enjoy the happy hour and would rate it higher except they aren't really family oriented. We have 2 kids and sometimes we might want to stop by for happy hour except kids aren't allowed in the bar and they won't extend any happy hour deals outside of the bar. I've never had issues with the food. Service is always nice and I enjoy the atmosphere in there. They also have closed early without notice. Anyway if they would be more flexible with their happy hour I would definitely frequent it more. read more

The service was excellent, but I was disappointed to be charged $4.50 for soda water (a first for me) and a $2.95 surcharge for habanero sauce. The food was average and lacked seasoning, and I found it surprising to be charged for hot sauce at a Mexican restaurant. I'm never one to really leave reviews but here I am. Let me start out by saying how much I love the food at Medrano's. I enjoy their food so much that I order very frequently, at times at least twice a week. However, I'm going to share my dislike with Medrano's. They constantly are messing up my orders. And today was the last straw for me. I called to speak to the supervisor to inform him that the food I ordered was not sent correctly yet again and he had the audacity to tell me that I had to take my issue up with DoorDash. Excuse me? With DoorDash?? Why?? They didn't pack the order. They simply go pick up the order, and deliver the order. How convenient it must be to put the blame on someone else. So of course I become very upset and the supervisor places me on hold to ask his employee what happened to the order. Then the supervisor had the audacity to return to the line and tell me that his employee claims he packaged the order correctly and proceeds to tell me he believes his employee and would never think his employee was a liar. So at this point I'm insulted because he is basically calling me a liar. And honestly I've been left fuming at this point. This is not how a customer should be treated. Medrano's, learn how to treat your customers especially when they are frequently ordering from your establishment on a weekly basis. Your food is awesome but your customer service sucks!!! I am writing to formally bring to your attention a very disappointing experience I had with your staff at Medrano's Mexican Food (5037 W Avenue N, Unit 19, Lancaster, CA 93536). On my recent order, I specifically requested tacos prepared with cilantro and onion only. Unfortunately, my order was made incorrectly "American style" with lettuce and tomato, which I cannot eat. Because I was admitted to the hospital immediately after my order, I was unable to return the food within the usual timeframe. I did not get to eat my meal, and it unfortunately went to waste. When I called to resolve this matter, the employee at the front desk was dismissive and unprofessional. She refused to give me her name, kept me on hold for 10 minutes, and then claimed the manager had "just walked out." At first, she told me there were no other managers available, but later offered to connect me with an assistant manager. The assistant manager (José Alvarez), when he finally came to speak with me, addressed me with a rude and condescending attitude. He acted as though he did not understand my concern, forcing me to repeat myself multiple times. His tone was hostile, and he demanded I show him a receipt even after I had explained that I had been hospitalized and did not have this available to me. The overall experience left me feeling disrespected, dismissed, and extremely upset. As a customer, I expected courtesy, understanding, and at least a willingness to acknowledge that my order was made incorrectly. Instead, I was treated with very rude attitudes, hostility and gaslighting. I am requesting that you review how this situation was handled and take steps to ensure your staff provides respectful, professional customer service in the future. read more

We went on Sunday and sat in the bar. Maria was our server and she was fantastic. Made us feel right at home! The rest of this is going to sound like I'm complaining but this is the honest truth. I ordered a margarita which was so stinking sweet I poured a ton of tajin in it to try and balance it out. Also the salt on the rim was like table salt which was so over powering I had to take it off. The chips were the biggest disaster! We weren't even the only ones to complain that the oil had gone bad and the news from the kitchen was that they weren't gunna change it. Which sucked cuz I wanted nachos or taquitos but couldn't stand the flavor of the old oil they were using. I know it would've been a disruption to their orders, but it's better to put out quality food than something that people are not enjoying, and multiple patrons have complained about. The only other highlight to this visit were the cheese enchiladas. They were great but unfortunately not enough to get me to go back here. How we have so many of these in our city baffles me. This was the first and last time I go here! Save your money and go to El Toreo off 10th West and Ave L. COCKROACH INFESTED SOUP!! Where there is one roach there are SEVERAL CRITTERS !!! I ordered two large tortillas soups to go and when I got home and took the first spoon full, a giant roach. The fact that a roach got in my soup, speaks volumes about the restraunts lack of cleanliness and management. First of all, a roach would not crawl into a bowl or hot soup, so that soup was definitely NOT FRESH. Secondly, the fact that they did not catch this ROACH in the soup before serving comes to show that there must be a deep infiltration of roaches in the kitchen, It's DISGUSTING ... This is a law suit waiting to happen. ... Medranos should be held up to par with the rest of the food industry. As a restaurant you have responsibility to serve food that people are able to consume, not get sick, or potentially kill. I would not recommend to anyone ever. read more

A couple people recommended we try this place. I was a bit leery because the family restaurant over on 10th St West is just awful. Nonetheless, and feeling a little bit of trepidation, over we came. You know, it wasn't bad. I started with dinner salad and homemade blue cheese dressing, thought it was fine. The next item was a Chili Relleno for Mr. Picky and Beef Fajitas for me. Mr. Picky thought the Chili Relleno was "pretty good" and stacked up to the other place in town he goes to order them. My fajitas were a very generous serving size and I was glad to have help eating the dish. Mr. P liked the grilled onions and bell peppers, and he polished that off. We also liked the guacamole and I thought the pico de gallo was refreshing and just wish there had been more of it. We finished by ordering dessert, fried ice-cream. I actually quite liked it even though the vanilla flavor wasn't that noticeable. Mr. Picky said he'd prefer flan next time. I've always liked their food and great margaritas. My go to is the chicken tostada which is wonderful. But, this last time I ordered it, it had chunky chicken, as opposed to shredded chicken. I never once said two bontano platter when I spoke to Josue she said because I didn't say one they charge for two. We sat in the bar, and it was karaoke night, so there was a 2 drink min, no biggie, except the drinks tasted like flavored water. The drinks barely had any alcohol in them. The food was even worse. Her menudo tasted like flavored water, his meal was average, and my wings looked like someone had eaten part of them, sent them back, and they were refried and served to me.
