In town this week, my brother and I stopped by Don Gus for some old fashion Mexican Lunch. The food here is amazing and feels like its home made. We started with home made chips, fresh salsa and an amazing bean dip that had what tastes like chorizo and a hot sauce mix, it is addictive, a must have. Then we ordered our main meals, the Flautas have a lot of flavor and chicken served with guacamole and sour cream, we had the appetizer version, well worth it. We also had a nice sized 2 item lunch special, Chicken hard shell taco, cheese Enchilada typically with Rice and Beans, today I felt like a full plate of beans, all of the food was just like my mom made it, so good. They have many other lunch special options. We decided that a few drinks were a must. My brother ordered the Large (gigantic) Strawberry Margarita, not sure how he finished it on his own but it looked amazing, he said it had a lot of flavor. I had a large Modelo beer that really tied in the entire meal. The interior is old school Mexican theme, with various classic paintings with very plush furniture. The staff is very friend and come by to check on you on the regular. We felt well taken care of, we cannot wait to visit again. This is a hidden gem. read more

Okay we ordered take out. Yeah I know you always get F$@/ed over with take out and drive thru. Got home and first they advised they don't include chips and salsa with take out? (WTH!! If I was in the restaurant you'd give them. Was the thought in my head) dude must have heard my mind cause he said I'll include since your order is so large. The tray of tacos that were supposed to be a mix of 3 hard shell ground beef tacos, 4 asada, 1 chorizo , 1 shredded beef and 3 chicken with soft shells turned into 6 hard shells with burned beef (maybe) and 3 hard chicken shells. The Albondigas Soup didn't even come with the rice and cilantro! My sons Pescado Tostada de Ceviche and Camaron Tostada de Ceviche didn't have the actual tostadas so I am really wondering if they forgot to give us a bag. The posole Don't have any radish or cabbage to add to it. And my daughter in law tossed the tamarind out cause she said it tasted spoiled . My hard not soft shelled chicken taco had bones in it. Please the pic! But note my mother who's currently sick said her Albondigas soup tasted ok to her. Let just say for the $$ I spent I am very unhappy!! I am thinking of calling the inspectors about the taste and freshness of this food as I am already feeling funny. Happy hour at Don Gus is the place to be! The fish tacos, chips and salsa with the bean dip were pretty good, but the star of the show was the giant margaritas! They have so many flavors to choose from, and the servers were so cool. It's a casual place with a neighborhood feel that makes you feel at home. The prices were worth putting Don Gus in my rotation of restaurants in the AV. read more

The service is impeccable. Very friendly and inviting environment! I don't even need to post about how AMAZING the food is because I'm pretty sure you'll feel it through the phone when you see the picture of my food. HIGHLY recommend this restaurant. Definitely a top spot. read more

The most terrible experience I've ever had. My husband and I stopped to try the brunch and ordered the steak and eggs and it was terrible. The waiter couldn't even tell us what margaritas came with the margarita flight and gave us no salsa with our meal. I have never been to a Mexican food place and not got chips and salsa. Terrible service food was terrible and we ordered two drinks that tasted like no liquor was in them. Horrible place don't go. When we asked to speak to a manager we were told they are cooking and instead of correcting mistakes they walked away and said don't worry about it as if we just didn't want to pay. read more

The food here is incredible, and the service is top-notch--easily a 120%! Be sure to ask for Bernie--he's here every day except Wednesdays. Definitely a welcoming environment I always recommend getting a margarita they are HUGE Berny is the best server I think the food is always fresh and delicious never dirty and always stocked up on restroom amenities and while waiting, we always get served chips and salsa. Let me start off with the customer service it, to was so amazing which is surprising because the Av is ass survive. They kept checking on us refilling the chips salsa & bean drip . Which I will add I LOVED THE SALSA ! If I had any minor complaint it would to maybe update the seating? But mostly the bathroom it's so awkward & small maybe a stronger fan ? The food was good but the portions were skimpy . For the price very you would think they would add a little more . The ambiance was nice ! Chill place . I've been in the service industry for over 15 years so serving customers in the restaurant industry is my jam . So with that being said I wasn't happy the man that served us didn't check on us not once after food was brought out . That's a big no no . You always have to check on the customers once they have their food . Making sure they don't need anything else, from refills to just making sure their food was good . We asked for extra napkins and he brought 2 which isn't extra . Then he sat with customers instead of checking in on all the other customers. The drink I ordered was a mango margarita and I am not a big drinker but it was weak . And tasted bad . We love Don Gus for lunch or dinner. The food is excellent- my favorite is the Fajita tostada. Also the chlle Verde, shrimp enchiladas, and chile rellenos are to die for! We were in the area and craving mariscos so we came here. Luckily it was during happy hour so margaritas were greatly priced & actually really good. The service was good, sadly the crab legs were over cooked and nearly impossible to get out the shell so that was disappointing. The mojarra frita was perfect and the sauce they put the abalone and octopus n shrimp in was delicious. This place needs AC tho there's carpet everywhere and only some ceiling fans so we started getting pretty hot & made us wanna leave lol. read more

Another great dinner at Don Gus on Friday night! The tables are well spaced inside, they have the tent outside for covered, outdoor dining al fresco. Hubby and I decided to share a Parillada platter, and Bernie very kindly allowed us to substitute the whole fried fish that usually comes right in the middle of the platter and he substituted with extra crab legs and shrimp.
