Urgent care is supposed to be a quick response care service for those in need. This place has no urgency in anything they do. They are also not high on bedside manner, communication or CARE. I would not recommend this location to anyone for any reason. The catch is, you'll never see anyone in the waiting room, because they put you in an examination room and let you wait there. For an hour or longer. Then act confused that no one communicated it would be a 2 hour wait as there is only one doctor on staff. Clearly a For Profit first establishment with service and care very low on the priority list. Go anywhere else. read more

Quick to charge and not reliable. This group is a repeat offender that falls short of professional service. They go through the motions here. For example. Discharge papers suggested I take a medicine I was highly allergic to. Asked the staff lady and she blew it off. "It's what we give everyone" was her response. Long wait times, forget to send prescriptions, staff doesn't return calls. The typical USA corporate healthcare. Higher prices and less service. They rotate a few doctors a around to locations. Good chance there will not even be one on site when you arrive. Only one Dr./PA on duty on a Saturday. I talked with a higher up director who said he was in charge of all of it. Dr. Berger. He sarcastically thanked me for for my input on how to run a medical facility. I don't have the solutions, but maybe having a good admin/customer service and a Dr. on site is to much to ask for. The good news is I have plenty of time to write this review because they're now an hour late (and counting) for a scheduled appointment for my 23-month old daughter. The stated reason for this delay ("we're really backed up") doesn't track - there was only one other person in the waiting room and the place is dead quiet. I understand that urgent care centers are busy but an hour+ wait for a SCHEDULED appointment (with no explanation or apology) with a toddler is inexcusable. Perhaps I'll comment on the actual care she receives (should any in fact be forthcoming) at a later time but based on this I can only recommend avoiding this place altogether. I have used the Medspring in Cedar Park ever since it opened. I have always been very pleased with their care and customer service. If it wasn't for my current situation with them they would have five stars across the board. I was very sick back in January. I went in and was told by the doctor to come back within 48 hours if I was not better and they would waive the co-pay. I only worsened and went back in. I was treated, told to return in 48 hours if I had not improved, and told I owed nothing for the visit. I got worse so I went back in a third time. I was given a more aggressive treatment and told I owed nothing. Well...I received a bill. So I call billing and was told the doctor did not have the authority to waive more than one of the two visits so I have to pay. They apologized that I was misinformed and that the staff did not collect payment but, regardless that it was their mistake I had to pay. Needless to say, I am so disappointed. We just went to Medspring this morning for a sick family member. I believe in customer loyalty for good service but, considering all this we will be visiting another area urgent care from now on. read more

I went in for a groin that had a rash and was very itchy. Was prescribed anti-fungal pills and a 5 day course of oral steriods. One week later, after no improvement, I went to a dermatologist who diagnosed dry irritated skin, but took some scrapings to immediately test for and rule out fungus, and then prescribed a steriod cream. This was spot on and the rash is much better. Obviously I should have gone to a dermatologist first, and that's a lesson for me, but jock itch is a common problem. I expected better. Service was slow, not glacial but I can easily understand the 60-90 minute waits others complain about. I went at a slow time. read more

I've never used an urgent care clinic before but I was desperate that day after turning my ankle and hearing a pop. I went in not knowing what to expect. I was beyond impressed by the way things were handled. They put my in a nice clean exam room which had cable access; periodically people would come in and offer snacks and drinks if I wanted. My only complaint was the wait (around 60 minutes). I didn't get the best news (my ankle was broken), but they were quick, efficient, nice, and very professional. My total cost at the end, including x-ray was 65 dollars. I left very pleased. I also got a follow-up call the next day from the doc. Thank you Dr. Wilson and x-ray techs Raeshaun and Shawna. I went here when I was in a bind and needed to see a doctor quickly. The good, they got me in fast. The bad, the receptionist seemed pretty rude and at one point I thought he was about to get into a fight with another one of the patients regarding signing the disclosure agreement. I visited this office a month ago and had an awful experience. Today, I was charged $125 for a visit that included misdiagnosis and malpractice after already trying to avoid the charge. When i was in the office, I spoke with a doctor for less than 5 minutes and they misdiagnosed me with flu and prescribed medication after refusing to test me for any illness. Three days later, after not being able to hold down food or do anything, I went to the University Health Services to find out my fever was over 103 degrees and I immediately was given two bags of IV and tested for flu and strep. Come to find out, I tested positive for strep and negative for the flu. After visiting Medspring, I only felt significantly worse and I wasted my time and money on a pointless doctor visit and incorrect medication. I will be getting a refund for my charge. The provider that signed my school/work note was "Romy Lam, PA." Please DO NOT visit this office, they have no idea what they're doing! read more

My fiancée gashed her leg open on a rock pretty bad and had about an inch opening. We rushed her to MedSpring as it was the closest spot to us at the time. It was a great choice. Quick service. Professional. Wayne and Amy took great care of her and calmed her down well. She was all stitched up within about an hour or so and we were out. Thank you! read more

The staff themselves were great. I can't complain about them one. However, Doctor Scott Spear that treated me was the most condescending, antagonistic, and rude person I've ever met. He treated every question I had with disgust and acted like I was an idiot. Every prior experience I had before seeing him he told me can't be true or was wrong even though every other doctor I've seen has told me contrary to what he was saying. He seemed to have made assumptions about me based on my tattoos as well. All in all it was a waste of time and money. You should probably just wait to see a real doctor that actually cares about your health and experience. read more

I've been in here twice in the past 7 days for an allergic reaction. The first time, the doctor barely looked at me, walked out and sent over a prescription for an antibiotic. I did not think very highly of them. However familiarity prevails, and when the reaction spread, I went back. I got a different doctor (Bob B-something, I'm afraid I don't remember it!) and he was great- helpful, thorough and I felt like someone was actually knwoledgeable and in charge of the situation. He changed my meds, answered all my questions and made me feel at ease. I'm so glad I went back and got a different doctor! It all depends on who you get. In other news, I haven't been billed yet, so my happiness may be short lived, I will report back. read more

Don't let the superficial details fool you: free wifi, coffee/tea/soda, granola bars, and choice of TV once you're in a room. You're here because you're sick. The last two times I took a family member there we waited for over 90min to see someone. Don't let the white coats fool you: the person who eventually saw us was a PA (physician's assistant), not an MD. A PA has a bachelor's degree and minimal training. I took a family member in twice with flu-like symptoms; the first time was told nothing was wrong, the second time told it was flu even though we asked if it was pneumonia (it was.) Go to an ER or a real doctor. It may cost more money or be more of a hassle, but it's your health and your life. It's worth it. read more

I usually do not contribute to Yelp!, as I find the negative reviews a bit dramatic, but this NEEDED to be said. I have NEVER received such terrible service IN MY LIFE, as I did at this particular MedSpring. I recently moved to the area from out of state and was feeling ill but couldn't get in with my primary physician. I called MedSpring to ask if they would accept my insurance, (to avoid driving all the way across town, with the flu, just to be turned away) I was told via phone that they DID accept my insurance. My insurance told me that I would NOT need a reference number as per their new policy. MedSpring almost laughed at me when I told them this and made me feel as though I was a criminal for informing them. So I got back on the phone with my insurance company, who offered to speak with whoever was in charge to ensure that this was the new policy. MedSpring STILL required a reference number, so my insurance company was nice enough to oblige. I was then called back. My vitals were taken, I was given water and a blanket; and then instructed to wait as the doctor would be "right with me" The not so pleasant front desk employee then entered the room two separate times to ask me different questions about my insurance (even after providing a reference number and all forms of identification)... he then entered a THIRD time and then proceeded to tell me that he did not have a doctor on staff that accepted my insurance, and that he could refer me to a provider in ROUND ROCK 45 MINUTES AWAY!!! I sat in my car in tears and feeling so weak/sick I almost couldn't drive away. I then called my insurance AGAIN and they directed me to a different facility 4 MILES from MedSpring's location.... NOT in Round Rock. I have never been so angry/disgusted in all my life!! For a MEDICAL FACILITY to be so careless and unprofessional like this is OBSENE. I will NEVER go back, and neither will any of the people in my life that I care about. I was later diagnosed with the flu and had a 102 degree temperature and these people put me through the ringer. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. I'd give them a -100 review if I could. I wouldn't trust these people with a hangnail!!!!! read more

Just moved to Austin, don't have a GP yet, came here to deal with a medical issue. This was literally the worst care I've ever received from a doctor in the 32 years I've been alive. Dr. Kelly treated me like I didn't matter, acted like she was afraid of my body, tried to discharge me without ever giving me a diagnosis and ultimately diagnosed me incorrectly because she hadn't even really looked at me. This is deplorable and inexcusable and I suggest that if you're looking for a doctor you go anywhere but here. read more

I've always gotten great care from my regular physician, but I had cold symptoms and he had no appointments available for two days. Med Spring Urgent Care is conveniently located for me, so I tried it. I had no idea what to expect: medical care dispensed in a fast food format? Well, I was so pleasantly surprised! First, lots of (free) parking. Next, the reception area was large, airy, tidy, and really new. There was only one person at the check-in desk, but she was very efficient, pleasant, and assisted another patient and myself with ease. I was given a tablet to complete a short medical history, enjoyed a complimentary hot chocolate from the Keurig in the lobby, and within a reasonable time was escorted to a exam room in the back (also sparkling clean and new with a television, remote control, and handy channel guide to use while waiting). The PA was cheery and professional, as was the doctor who came in after my initial consult with the PA. I was examined, throat swabbed, results obtained (no strep!), prescriptions called in, paid up, and I was on my way. I actually took a little over an hour, which is longer than my usual physician's office, but I did not have an appointment, which you can make on line. I will definitely use them again! read more

I went to the Barton Springs Medspring on Tuesday evening. I've never been treated so well during a walk in! Wayne was super friendly and helpful checking me in and my physicians Ryan and Nick were stellar! I was in and out (and on my way to get my prescriptions filled) 45 min after walking in. The best part is my insurance paid for everything! I could tell these guys work really hard and at the end of the day I still had top notch care. read more

Service wasn't bad but I was misdiagnosed and when I came back the next day with symptoms that weren't improving with medicine, the doctor who corrected the diagnosis said I wouldn't have to pay for the follow up visit. Ok, no prob. However a month later, billing insisted I owed for that second visit. There was simply no mechanism in place to dispute the charge. It was my word against this file that was missing the appropriate indication from the doctor. For that reason, medspring gets 1 star-- if you walk out not knowing for certain what you'll be charged later, there should be some way to resolve disputes. I had a weird corrected diagnosis so I'm certain that second doctor would have remembered me if they had actually reached out to her to ask if she forgot to mark the file to reflect what she said. read more

I really wish I had listened to the negative reviews. This place is an absolute scam. Went to the visit, they told me to take alieve twice a day for five days and referred me to a physical therapist. They said if the one they picked didn't take my insurance id have to come back in (and pay for another visit) or go to my PCP. Seriously? And then they come in and ask for 110 dollars, and I asked how much the visit costs and she says "I don't know" what do you mean you don't know? She says that they will bill my insurance and it will depend on what they pick up. Okay but out of how much? "I don't know." But the visit already happened?!? It will be STARTING at 165$. To wait in a room for over two hours and have a doctor move my arm around a bit and be incredibly resistant about writing a doctors note for me. If the exam costs 165, that's fine, but you can't just charge as much as you think my insurance will pay for, that's so messed up. Anyways. Starting price is 165$, if you don't want to pay that I'd go somewhere else. read more

Terrible. My wife sliced her hand open this evening pretty bad. Took her here and as she was checking in a "Dr Douglas Mills" came out and asked her "did you cut yourself", she said yes, the he rolled his eyes and stormed off. This was 1.5hrs before closing. Needless to say we went somewhere else and won't be going back here. Also going to tell all our friends in the neighborhood to avoid this place and that doctor. Dr Mills needs a serious attitude check and Medspring should be ashamed to hire someone who treats people in need with such disrespect. read more

Been to a few urgent cares in Austin and this was by far the best. I was in a room right away. The room was clean, comfortable and had my own TV. The nurse was friendly and the doctor saw me in less than 5 minutes after the nurse left. I was in and out in 45 minutes. I don't like seeing the doctor but this was very tolerable. read more

Dr. Coughlin was terrible. Took my 3-year old here for finger X-rays while travelling to Austin. Made an appointment, arrived on time and we were taken back within 10 minutes. We were then told we would have to wait another hour to see the Doctor. It was not busy we were the only patients I saw in the facility. An hour and fifteen minutes later Dr. Coughlin entered the room with the smell of cigarette smoke preceding him. He did nothing to address my daughter.He seemed offended that my daughter did not want him to touch her--I didn't want him to touch her either. The only time he attempted to actually look at her finger was when he leaned into me, reached over my chest, and looked at here hand as she sat on my hip on the other side of me. His diagnosis--just a bruise--went against every maternal instinct that I had but I accepted it in the interest of not having to stand in close quarters with this creep's arms reaching around me anymore. The next day a different doctor called with a follow-up diagnosis--it was a break after all. Duh! What a waste of money! What a violating experience for me and my daughter. read more

Horrible facility. I waited 2 hours to get sent back and then another hour to see the PA(Patel Komel). I explained my symptoms and was concerned that I had strep. She argued with me about my symptoms and stated that it was probably just a virus. I went to another urgent care and they confirmed that I did indeed have strep. She was completely unprofessional, rude and unpleasant, even raising her voice at me. As I continued to ask questions, she responded by saying "I am going to explain this in simple terms" speaking to me like a child. I spent 3 hours at this facility just to receive horrible service and left with a misdiagnosis. When I left all of the lights were off because I was the last patient there due to the wait time! I would not even give this urgent care one star. I paid a lot of money to be seen and it was a complete waste. Do not go here read more

I walked in and no wait! Its local in my hood so I just walked down the street but they have ample parking. Great care! Got fixed up with a steroid shot for my bronchitis! Meds called into the HEB pharmacy at my request. Easy. I'm a fan! Hopefully I won't need to return but if I do I know I can be seen quickly and with great care. read more

My daughter is a student in Austin and went to the South Congress location and presented with the symptom of wheezing and she had no rescue inhaler. Instead of treating her they spent the entire time arguing about how she would pay. I am a physician and feel helpless having my daughter feeling ill and being where I can't help her. It was near closing time so I am sure the nurse and PA wanted to go home but it something happens to my daughter there will be hell to pay for sending her away. She has insurance and I would have gladly paid for the treatment but payment was your most important item not my daughters well being. Who is the Medical Director at that money mill because I am reporting this behavior. Unless you have a non- urgent problem don't go there at closing time. I came here once before for a dog bite and had a great experience, but this time I came in in pain due to a recurring health issue. I had last seen a specialist for it at UPenn in Philly two years ago and had an old prescription for it. I brought the medicine with the RX on it with me to the appointment as evidence of the past medical history, and the doctor just shrugged and said he didn't feel comfortable prescribing something he was unfamiliar with. Fair enough--but why did I have to pay money for you to not help me? This was terrible customer service, and I will never use MedSpring Urgent Care again. I am still in severe pain and literally know what I need (it is a RX cream that a UPenn specialist gave me--not some made up drug / opioid) and still didn't get the care I needed. The doctor should have called the physician in Philly, confirmed the details of the RX if he had any questions about it, and actually tried to help me and educate himself about this health issue instead of shrugging it off. He literally broke the Hippocratic oath and did harm in this case when I literally handed him the RX I needed. read more

My initial exposure to MedSpring was on March 12th with a finger laceration. The PA prescribed Keflex and a ointment and requested that I return in 48 hrs for a recheck. He stated there would be no charge as it was a recheck. I paid for this initial visit at the time of service. March 14th I returned for recheck. NP said PA had prescribed the wrong antibiotic and ointment and changed both orders which was obvious as my finger definitely looked worse. I was told by the NP as well as the front desk staff that there would be no charge as a recheck. Imagine my surprise at Walgreens when I attempted to get the new meds filled. Insurance company said they had just filled scripts 2 days before for same injury. So I paid out of pocket for the clindamycin. March 16th took my granddaughter to the same Urgent Care. Not smart I know, however the PA from my first visit happened to be working and asked how my finger was? He was immediately alarmed and said I needed to see a hand surgeon. My granddaughter was diagnosed with pneumonia in one lung without a chest film. Antibiotic was prescribed. March 17th saw hand surgeon who opened the wound to a charge of $500.00 plus. March 18th granddaughter 17 yrs old taken to ER. Chest film showed bilateral pneumonia and after 5 hrs was hydrated with 2000cc of fluid, 3 breathing treatments and IV antibiotics was stable enough to go home. I was surprised when I received my first bill, but when I called Medspring patient accounts I was assured that the bill was a mistake and would be investigated. I was told I would receive a call back. I did not so called again. Again assured that I would get a call back. Instead I received a letter threatening collections. Interestingly every time I asked for a supervisor, they were all too busy for my call. I made four phone calls over several weeks before a supervisor called and I tried to explain the situation. I told him I had already mailed the check but he seemed confident it would be refunded. O yes he also offered me a free visit at MedSpring...quite helpful since I live in Nebraska. It`s now June 8th, I received a letter dated May 26th without a signature stating I'm responsible for the bill. I`ve been a Registered Nurse for 46 years in a variety of management positions. I'm appalled that anyone can provide this service. I would also encourage anyone with a healthcare need to seek professional health care. Lesson learned. Ruth read more

Treat your hypertension with a primary but in a pinch while travelling, this place works for the rapid pulse part This place took pity on me and helped me out when I was on vacation in Austin. I found out I was having blood pressure and pulse problems before a trip to Austin and was told in an urgent care center in CA to monitor my BP and pulse and record daily. I did that for several days but by the time we got to Austin we realized my BP was frequently over 100 diastolically with a pulse over 100 consistently along with shortness of breath and nervousness and headache. I felt like crap and had for a long time. My eyes were blood shot. I did not realize that all my problems were blood pressure - duh! I thought I was just old. The staff from the front to the back was efficient and pleasant. The doctor was like most doctors, barely able to tolerate a patient and somewhat condescending, but he did treat me. Anyway, I was seen quickly at this facility; the Doc (an DO) listened but suggested that we were overly ruminating on the problem (no, I just felt like crap and rarely go to any healthcare because they are all non-listening jerks and cause more problems than they fix). Anyway, this DO did give me a break and gave a beta blocker due to pulse rate (they do not usually prescribe anti-hypertensives due to its being a "chronic" problem, not urgent care). Within hours I felt like a new person! This made a huge positive difference. I had thought I was nuts. His deciding to treat me and not blow me off made life tolerable until I could return home and be seen by a cardiologist, whom I had been referred to before my trip (of course, i could not get an appt before my trip!). The DO at Med Spring gave me info sheets on everything from shortness of breath to anxiety. Whatever, Doctors are mostly all clueless and without empathy but I followed up upon my return to CA and found out from the cardiologist that the tachycardia (really rapid pulse) and consistently untreated hypertension actually caused what appeared to be "emotional" problems. Rather, it was my physical problems taking a toll on my whole emotional and physical health. So get your hypertension treated, people, and treat it yourself with diet, exercise and decent doctors. The onus is actually ypon the "patient/self"because doctors are often condescending and clueless and do not gather enough data to actually solve any problems. So educate yourself. In a pinch, this place is just fine. Cost here was HALF of what I paid in the Bay Area. read more
