Best patient experience-- fast, efficient, convenient and Dr Smith was super friendly, patient and helpful!

We went here on a Sunday when my 13 year old son had stuck a ball of tinfoil in his ear (ADHD anyone?!!). We were offered snacks immediately (and amazingly they had some of our favorites!) and then put in a spacious room that had a small couch as well as enough chairs for the hubby and I as well as his little sister. We only had to wait a few minutes for the MA to come in and get the process started and within another 15 min the doctor was there. He was very patient and good natured about the situation and tried a number of different approaches until he finally got the dang thing out. Overall it was a great experience, we will definitely go back next time my son has another ADHD moment. read more

I came in late in the day with a chin cut wide open in a fall. The staff couldn't have been more professional and helpful. The waiting room was calm and peaceful, and the waiting room staff was excellent. I was helped very quickly. The PA who saw me and treated me was efficient, knowledgeable, and kind. I had a skin infection on the bottom of my foot and was nervous that is was staph. I went to Medspring Barton Springs and from the moment I stepped in the door, everything was great. Front desk was courteous and offering coffee, etc. Quick and easy check-in. Nurse's assistants taking vitals were also courteous and very professional. Mary and Mary Grace were awesome! They helped out so much! 1000% would recommend this location and these doctors any day! read more

I arrived as they were unlocking the door in the morning. Literally the first one in. There is a staff in the back goofing off. It is 30 minutes later and I am still in the waiting room. How is this even possible? What am I actually waiting on? read more

The service was ok, the facilities were clean, but the bill was unreasonable. I cut my finger and when the bleeding wouldn't stop and I wasn't sure whether or not I'd need stitches, I walked here because it was close. They essentially had me sit and hold a piece of gauze around my finger to stop the bleeding, told me to run my finger under cold water, then used medical adhesive to glue it together and applied a band aid. Once I received my bill, I was charged $189 for an "Outpatient Visit," $161 for "Superficial wound repair" (which was the reason for the visit, so isn't that the same charge?) and an additional $25 for "evening/weekend visit"- isn't that the whole point of an urgent care? Either you're open or you're not. I sent a message questioning the duplicate charges for the service and got this response: "I have reviewed your chart your are billed for Consultation and procedure for superficial is not included in general consultation. There is a $25 for Holidays, after hours and weekends, which was adjusted by your insurance provider." Hopefully I don't have to visit any urgent care any time soon, but if I do I'll try another before returning to Medspring. read more

WARNING!! The new policy for seniors is that they will not treat unless you have your social security card in hand. I stopped carrying mine because it has my social security number on it. I had my picture id and secondary insurance card and they refused to treat me even though I had seen them many times in the past. read more

MedSpring is very clean but their scheduling tool stinks. Their system allowed me to make an appointment for 2:30 but I didn't see a doctor till 4:30. Administrative staff says the system will let everyone jam up. Pathetic. read more

Convinced I had the flu, my girlfriend talked me into going on a Saturday night before they closed. Got right in, had my vitals taken and immediately saw a doctor. He quickly diagnosed my stomach pains, diarrhea and aches as a GI bug. Fine enough. I asked if we should take a flu test to be sure. I thought this was a reasonable albeit layman's question. I was afraid that if it were the flu and I didn't immediately start Tamiflu that I would be sort of out-of-luck. The doctor's inferiority complex quickly became apparent as he sarcastically told me that he had been trained in this field. When I started to take exception to his manner, he told me to be quiet and listen to him. I have to say, if my girlfriend had not been there, one of us would have needed medical attention quickly (likely him). Needless to say, no one should be treated with such disdain by any service provider let alone a doctor when feeling that badly. I tried to reach the proper people at MedSpring to discuss the behavior privately but did not have any luck. I recommend folks stay away from this place. read more

I took my stepdaughter in for abdominal pain on Sunday. Vanessa was so polite, helpful, and took us back right away!! The nurse, Wayne, was also very kind and helpful. He offered my child a blanket and made us feel comfortable and did a great job taking care of her. The whole staff was absolutely amazing! What a day. Fell down on Barton springs road so came here not expecting anything. I'm out of town so I was really worried about things were going to work out. I didn't have my insurance card on me but I was able to get a picture of it from back home on the East Coast emailed to the urgent care and everything went smoothly. The receptionist was very understanding and helped me figure out everything. Wayne took care of my pre seminarian and was so sweet in taking care of me. He was careful handling my foot and explained everything while we took x rays. The provider Nick was amazing. He was very frank and told me how everything was without having to sugar coat anything and gave me all the information I needed. Wayne and Nick answered all of my questions and made sure I had everything in deed including extra ice packs, bandages etc. I felt like I was dealing with friends at a time of need. They called me for a follow up warning me possible worst case scenario. Thank you for everything! read more

UPDATE: I am bumping my review to 2 stars because MedSpring did follow up with me after my review and did try to find a way to remedy the situation. My medical issue is resolved and I don't intend to return to MedSpring again after my experience, but hopefully this review may affect policies regarding follow ups after conditions worsen after a MedSpring visit. At the end of the day, I still had to pay for a second visit to a different doctor, but at least MedSpring is paying attention to these reviews and making some effort to make things right with frustrated customers. read more

When you're traveling and a medical thing pops up and you have to search for a provider - it feels like a gamble. Well, i cannot say enough positive things about this facility and all of the staff, from the front desk to the nurse to the doctor. Each were excellent, efficient and pleasant. I was seen quickly (made an appt online) and they ordered my Rx for me -- and it was ready when I arrived at the pharmacy 15 minutes later. Can't say enough good things about the place. read more

I had a GREAT experience with this location. Went to another 'fast' clinic at a drugstore and they had a 2+ hour wait. I couldn't wait that long, so visited the S. Lamar location for the first time. I was in, seen and checked out within 30 minutes! I saw a MD and not a PA. Got a good diagnosis and they transmitted my prescription electronically. All medical records are also electronic. I was a bit worried from the other reviews I read about this place but I really didn't have another option. However, my experience was great. Lady at the front was friendly and helpful, the doctor I saw was thorough and informative. My wait was reasonable too, about an hour in and out with two people ahead of me when I walked in. I've been here twice- once for what I thought could be a gallbladder issue, and once for a rash o had on my face. Staff was nice enough, and I was accepted into the back quickly enough, but both times I was left waiting for over 45 minutes during what seemed like a slower day. Dr spoke with me for about 3 minutes total and sent me home with cortisone cream. read more

I was sick for about a month with what I thought were normal seasonal allergies. After a bout of dizziness I finally went to this urgent care clinic because it was up the street. Got there place was empty I was taken back right away. Nurse came and took medical history which was good because I have other health conditions. Exam room was clean with a couch and television. It took almost an hour for the doctor to come in but after talking with her I could see why. She made sure to go through each of my symptoms one by one and did not just dismiss them as allergies. She looked in my ears and found I had an ear infection that was causing the dizziness. She gave me some good advice about how to help with allergies including using a nettipot over antihistamines. Filled all my prescriptions really quick they send them electronically. I am not sure on the cost as I had already met my insurance deductible and had no co pay. Overall if I cannot get to the doctor I would certainly go there with minor emergencies. read more

Overpriced. I have been to places like this in several cities as I spend most of my time overseas and don't have health insurance. I went here for a renewal of a plain vanilla prescription- in and out in less than 15 minutes- for nothing "controlled". These places in other cities cost about $100. I don't know why Austinites put up with higher prices than the rest of the country. About $149 for a non-renewable, non-abusable written prescription. There are lots of doctors who don't have fancy private practices that can easily be hired at reasonable rates for jobs at places like this; there is no justification for this kind of pricing in my opinion. read more

I almost didn't go here because of the bad reviews, but it was oh so close and I was oh so sick! I thought this place was just fine. Nice even. There were TVs in the treatment rooms. My wait was like 20 minutes. The PA was really nice. I went in for the flu/cold and they called in my prescription to CVS and it was ready in an hour. No issues. read more

I went on their website and made an appointment on 08/01 @ 3 PM. When I arrived the girl behind the counter was simply rude and did not seem to know what she was doing. I do not know if she was a nurse or a PA or what she was. She did not recognize my insurance card so she implied that it was not valid. It is valid. Since she could not recognize it she asked me if I was on Medicaid. I am 52. I filled out the very long and overly comprehensive form that is required for treatment. After all that she told me that my insurance was giving her an error. I asked if that means it was rejected. She said she did not know and that it was just an error. Aetna was the provider. She could not explain. She then started telling me about how they could treat me, what they would and would not do. As noted, I do not know if she was a clinician. She seemed too ignorant to be a clinician. So I countered her explanation by questioning her further. I got a lot of "I don not knows". Her explanations for my insurance and treatment (minor facial laceration) were inadequate. This is an urgent care facility. It is meant to be easy and convenient. It is not. Went to Fastmed across the street. They easily accepted and processed my insurance and I was treated and out the door in less than 30 minutes. Would not recommend Medspring. They seem more interested in gathering information that treating injuries. Rude smug ignorant girl at the front desk. I have seen a lot of the other reviews for this place. In each case a boilerplate reply was made. Not a personal reply. I think that tells you all you need to know. read more

I recently went to this clinic and have gone to different clinics over the years because I get sick on Sunday. I had a good experience both times I went. I have medicare and they accepted it and charged me nothing, I also had a chest x ray. The doctor I had listened to me and helped me the best he could in my situation. I got anxiety after being home and called the clinic and they responded and changed a prescription for me. I went back again to double check my problem and they were very reassuring after checking me again and my progress. I have been to several other clinics in the South Austin area and I found this to be the best for me. Victory charged me with my medicare insurance, and the old clinic on South Lamar near Peoples, well the last time I went there it was a nightmare. I do have a doctor but when this started he could not get me in. My neighbor went to this clinic first and also liked the doctor. You just have to take a chance everything is not always the same, but my experience was that they did listen to me and today I feel much better. read more

I went to MedSpring since it was covered by my insurance. The purpose of the visit was a laceration to my eyebrow due to a bad fall. I arrived on a Monday around 6:30PM. There was no one in the waiting room. The receptionist didn't seem to understand the basics of the check in process. I filled out the paperwork as instructed and then asked how long it would be before I could see a doctor. She got flustered and gave me an attitude as if I was being difficult. The only reason I asked the question was because a friend had given me a ride and I didn't want them to wait if it was going to be a couple of hours. I was brought to the exam room by a gentleman (I don't remember his title because I don't know how to go any lower than the person that examined me) who looked at my eyebrow and said I would probably need stitches. I waited for a few minutes and a very young nurse's assistant (I think? I don't remember the title but it was well below a nurse) examined me. There were no doctors or nurses available. She told me not to worry about it; keep it clean; and it would heal without a scar. She did not treat the wound. As I left, I saw the gentleman that took me to the exam room and I told him what the nurse's assistant (or whatever low level she was) diagnosed. He looked puzzled and basically said 'Okay' as if he was surprised by the diagnosis. A month later, I have a scar and the wound did not heal as the nurse's assistant (or whatever she was) told me it would. I received a bill in the mail for additional charges since my company's insurance policy didn't cover the cost. Okay, I understand that. I review the itemized list on the bill and find (in addition to other charges) I was charged $25 for evening/holiday/weekend. I was not told I would be charged extra at check-in. The office is only open until 8:00PM, so an evening charge? Really? When does it start? 5:00PM? When I was checking my credit card bill, I found that they had already charged the card I used when I was there without notifying me. Based on the bill I received in the mail, I could have sent a check without knowing they had already charged my card. The visit cost me $164. Knowing what I know now, I would have rather gone to the emergency room, paid the $250 and had a doctor or nurse examine me. I recommend calling this place and inquiring about who is on staff at that time and how much it will actually cost for the appointment so you are properly treated. I wish I did. read more

The only reason I'm giving it any stars was because the front desk guy who greeted me was absolutely amazing. He was the best and I wish I remembered his name but you know what they say you always remember the bad ones. I was seen by an FNP last name Kennedy first name started with a G. Worst experience of my life. I had been suffering from sinus pressure, headaches, achy feeling, fatigued and feeling awful the past 5 days at the time now 7 days. She didn't even great me the first thing she said "what's this about you not knowing your pregnant you should know if you are it's a simple yes or no answer and if you are I don't know why you bothered coming in because you know if your pregnant you really shouldn't be taking any medications anyway." My husband and I have been trying for not too long the past 3 months and I had explained to the admitting nurse who wasn't much better than her that my last period was at the end of August and I'm prob not pregnant but you never know because we are trying. Needless to say the conversation from here on out was me defending myself with everything she was saying. From "you know if it's a sinus infection you should know that they last at least 7-10 days and then that's when you come in." Not to mention I came right after work in my scrubs so of course she knew I am an RN and you would think she would maybe have a little more understanding but I felt like I was being treated and tested like an incompetent person. I was feeling horrible my manager said it might be a good idea to go get checked out so I went not because I wanted to but because I thought maybe I should since my manager is saying to go. I will never ever go back to this location and to top it all off I had to call them back 2 times because they said they called in my prescriptions but they never did and they only called in one of them. They only reason she prescribed me anything anyway was because I started crying and she proceeded to say "oh no don't cry your just going to make your congestion worse". The only reason I started crying because I felt like I was being attacked for being sick and because I'm sick and I feel awful and it doesn't feel good when someone who is supposed to be sympathetic and a professional makes you feel even worse about yourself. Went in with a pretty deep laceration and they couldn't have been any better. They were polite & took care of me as quickly as they could. Gladys is a top notch physician and made me feel right at home. As a cherry on top the rooms are very comfortable and spacious. read more

I went in on Thursday of last week because I was experiencing a severe sore throat, cold sweats, nausea, cough, and headache. I thought for sure it was strep or at least the flu. They saw me fairly quickly but the nurse who took my vitals spent more time with me than the PA did. She got me hot tea as well which was nice. The PA walked in and said my diagnosis was "bad allergies"...mind you I have never in my life had issues with allergies so this made no sense to me. I was told to take Benadryl, use nasacort, and I was given prednisone for the swelling in my throat (4 pills a day for 3 days which is a lot of steroid) and no antibiotics or anything to stop my cough. My cough immediately got worse after I started the steroids which is opposite of what he said I would experience. He said I would feel better within 4 to 6 hours after starting them. Cut to today (Sunday) I have been up all night coughing, fluid is now in my ears and causing me pain, and my sore throat has returned. Very clearly was misdiagnosed so I'm frustrated I have suffered for longer than I needed to. Fortunately I talked to a different doctor and they called in antibiotics for me so hopefully I will actually get better. Very disappointed with my experience. The PA should have taken more time to examine me. Can't wait to get my bill for this worthless visit!$$$$$ read more

Please do not go here unless you are willing to subject yourself to intentionally tricky billing and deceptive practices that result in overcharging. Essentially you are just a wallet with money, your ailment is not a concern to them, only what you can contribute financially. You are not paying for medical services but the cost of waiting in a "suite" in which you can sit and watch TV. Ummm, no, I can watch TV at home and save my money. The service was friendly but I actually didn't receive any medical services, just a referral to an actual doctor and a huge bill. They did NOTHING for me... so I am not sure how I ended up with such a big bill. I tried to dispute it with them in person and calling their billing center to no avail. The people on the phone are only there to say NO because the folks in the office are too spineless to admit to their conniving practices. I was duped, don't let it happen to you. read more

I have been to the location on north lamar and they are wonderful, so I was appalled, angry and offended by my care today. The nurse was kind and caring but the doctor was accusatory and dismissive. He stood across the room, hands behind his back and leaning on the wall. He refused to write a prescription for an antibiotic ointment for a sinus rinse (I've had 16 sinus surgeries so my infections get serious and bad) because he said he has never done so and didn't know how. Really? It's a tube of ointment what is hard about that? I have never heard that before. He also did not want to hear what works for me usually. Having had such a complicated history I was trying to tell him what has and has not helped but he just kept saying he was going to give me something "different" well different is something I get rashes with, finally he decided to listen because as he said clearly all I wanted was my medicine. He didnt even ask about symptoms, pain, color of mucus, nothing! I would not have come but my regular dr was in a car accident and my ent is a specialist in Houston. Please take, my advice and do not go here, drive 10 minutes north to the one across from central market. read more
