The day he went into the emergency vet.
    Kim A.

I wish could put a warning and not a star. Don't take your pets here!! When you are faced with an emergency with your furbaby, you want to trust an emergency vet. After an outrageous bills, abusive care we brought our dog home to pass away. We had the WORST experience imaginable and our dear dog of 12.5 years passed after a fight to get him out of there. He was admitted to get iv antibiotics and fluids over the weekend. After leaving him for 3 hours, they could not give us consistent updates. They ran tests that were not discussed and told us he needed surgery (that didn't align with our vet recommendation). After a discussion to understand the surgery, they said he had less than a 30% chance of survival from the surgery. We requested they follow the plan at admission to give IV antibiotics and fluids. At that time they had already ran our bill up over $3,000 for testing. When we decided to hold off on the surgery to get him stabilized, the attitude quickly shifted. They asked if we were prioritizing cost over care. We called several times and could not get an update on our dog. We were so distraught about what to do and the inconsistencies we decided to go pick him up. When we got there it was a very heated battle to see my dog. They continued to lie about his care. It was clear they had not even given his medication or cared for him. When they finally brought him to me he was so bad he couldn't even walk. He had bruises on his chest and refused to eat. He look like he was almost dead. I couldn't stop crying. I felt horrible for taking him there and trusting him. The day we took him in he was walking, eating and still playing with our family. He never walked again after being at this place. They would not let me leave until I settled the bill. They refused to give me the detailed bill or explain why my bill was over $5,000. They sent me home with medication but found out when I got home the bottles contained only 1 pill each. We called our vet in the morning when they opened. They gave him pain medicine and were so upset this happened. The notes they sent our vet did not align with what they told us or were asked to do. Not even they expected this to happen. Our dog passed away shortly after this with our family including our children. As I share our experience with others, we continue to hear others had a similar experience. So many family pets killed by this place. There was no need for this to be a traumatic experience. This place is the worst. They take advantage of families that love their pets. Abusive, poor care, greedy, dishonest and unprofessional. We are still heart broken over all this.

    MedVet patient.

I have two CKCS dogs that have been patients at MedVet Cincinnati for years, and for various things. The team here has mostly been compassionate, friendly, and as timely as they can be. Being a long time customer of the cardiology department, I have to give a shout out to Maggie Schuckman, DVM. She has been my dog's cardiologist and she is fantastic. She truly cares and has been compassionate through the painful progression of heart disease in both of my dogs (at the same time). My "boys" would be long gone if it wasn't for her expertise. I wouldn't want anyone else on my side going through this. Her assistants are phenomenalI as well. They work to do what's best for my dogs while being aware of the $$ and they advise with compassion. I highly recommend MedVet Cincinnati, and if you're looking for a cardiologist, Maggie and team are sweet and amazing and have given me more time with my boys. I'm forever grateful.

On Monday when we got home from a lunch out we couldn't find our Chloe, we looked everywhere, hearing little whimperings we tracked her down and she had somehow wedged herself between a chair and a table and couldn't get out. She was disoriented and not really responding to us. We decided even though it was Labor Day we needed to get her too a doctor. so we chose the veteran emergency group in Oakley as they were a 24-hour a day clinic. We gave a call first to make sure they were open on a holiday. they took some basic information. told us to come over and sent a link to my phone so I could pre-register. When we arrived we were ushered in and although they were busy, Dr. Irene came over and started reviewing what the situation was, because of pre-registering everything went quite efficiently. They took Chloe's vital signs and put them into the computer and then when Dr. Irene was completed taking care of another patient, she came over and we discussed potential options. At Chloe's advanced age there was very little that could be done other than painkillers, but it was obvious that we had a very big decision to make. Irene, showing immense compassion led us through our options, and Pam and I made a tough decision to have Chloe go gently with us by her side.

I ended up at Care Center after I thought my 4-pound Yorkie had gotten into the trash and was worried about a blockage in his intestines. Long story short, he continued his symptoms and I took him to Care Center (after a less than satisfactory experience at MedVet), where Dr. Raghu not only comforted me, but discovered his symptoms were actually from a pre-existing condition. Since being treated, he's gained almost a whole pound to finally reach a healthy weight, and I couldn't be more grateful for the internal medicine staff (they even provided an email address which I used frequently during the early days of his treatment). I cannot say enough good things about Care Center... And I know my little pup feels the same!

Greater Cincinnati Veterinary Specialists and Emergency Services in Wilder Kentucky is horrible…read more I'm sharing this to warn anyone who needs an emergency vet near here so they can avoid them. Our cat, Rudy, was battling a lot of serious health issues. He was a rescued cat and suffered seizures and was fiv positive. We were on a palliative care treatment plan with our regular vet, who is amazing but was closed. Our cat had a couple of seizures over the weekend then experienced what appeared to be a stroke late Sunday evening. We rushed him to the nearest emergency vet because he was in pain, scared, and with his poor health status we decided to offer him mercy through euthanasia. When we got to the emergency vet they explained that the vet would assess him, place the catheter IV in his leg, and then bring him to us to spend as much time saying goodbye as we needed, then they would perform the sedation and euthanasia with us holding him. They took him to an exam room to insert the catheter, a procedure I've watched dozens of times over the years with animals I've taken to various vets. When an hour passed we asked the front desk what the delay was and they said, "Rudy was being ornery and they were having a hard time putting the catheter in" which was an immediate huge red flag as Rudy has tolerated painful medical procedures without flinching or complaint with our regular vet, who described him as a very docile patient and "wished every cat was as easygoing as Rudy" Another half hour and I approached the front desk and said I needed to be with Rudy and I was concerned about the issues and delays. The person at the front desk called then said they weren't answering their phone then walked back to the exam room to get them. The vet came and asked if they could mildly sedate him and we agreed. More time passed and we approached the front desk yet again because at this point I was considering other vets, other options. Something wasn't right. Then the vet came and talked to me in the hallway and said they had bent the needles trying to place the catheter and that "he had very thick skin" and I told her to bring our cat to us. When they brought him to us he was so sedated his skin was cold and he was barely breathing. Every leg has been stuck multiple times and I watched her try several times unsuccessfully in the rear leg, with the vet and the tech debating where his veins were. At this point I told them to stop and the vet decided he should be euthanized by cardiac stick. I definitely did not want to have him euthanized by cardiac stick. I wanted to leave with my cat but they insisted they would legally have to take him out of sedation in order for us to leave with him, although I've brought home other animals in the past from other vets who were sedated from medical procedures. At this point, I felt he had suffered so much at this vet and he is traumatized by car rides, that I had very few options. Not only did this vet rob us of a small window of time to say goodbye to our cat before they made him practically comatose with heavy sedation, but they poked and prodded for nearly two hours without informing us of any issues with the catheter. Instead, in our grief and anxiety we were forced to go searching the front desk for answers, horrified by the incompetent catheter attempts, and what I know in my heart to be a botched euthanasia. My sweet, gentle baby boy suffered needlessly at the hands of these ill trained, unskilled "vets" who also condescendingly explained that cardiac stick euthanasia was fairly common and humane. Which is simply not true. I have rescued animals for decades, was a licensed wildlife rehabber, and have worked closely with vets to understand care, treatment, and eventually a humane passing for many animals, whether rescued or long-term animal companions. I have never experienced a veterinarian hospital so completely unprofessional, incompetent, and as apathetic as Greater Cincinnati Veterinary Specialists and Emergency Services. Please do not ever take any animal to this awful place. Rudy deserved so much better.

Our black lab (Ollie), took some kitchen scissors out of the sink and chewed the handles while we were sleeping. We found the chewed scissors with no pieces of the handle to be found. We assumed he ingested them and decided to be safe and take him to an emergency vet. First, we took him to a closer, well known emergency vet in Hilliard. After an hour wait, we discovered they were not equipped to help. Seems like any emergency vet should be able to handle an accidental ingestion, but they couldn't and what they could do was at least another 90 minute wait. I should add that I understand that Ollie was not in immediate danger (yet) and his appearance and behavior were good enough to tolerate a long wait - but I just didn't like how unprepared they seemed for what I think should be a relatively routine incident. We left and intended to go to their larger location, but it was such a poor experience I wanted to find an alternative. We found the Dublin VEG and it was relatively close. I called ahead and talked to a pleasant staff member who gave me an idea of the types of things we would likely need and she indicated they could handle this sort of issue. We arrived received immediate attention. They quickly x-rayed the scissors to see if the handle material would show up clearly enough to make it effective and when it confirmed, they quickly got Ollie in and x-rayed. They were able to rule out any large pieces and it felt safe to proceed with induced vomiting. Several minutes later, the bits and pieces of the handles were out of Ollie, giving us a sigh of relief. I wish I could remember names, but the staff were all amazing. The care plan options were immediate - even in a somewhat tricky scenario given the material. The caring and demeanor of all of the staff put us at ease right away and we knew we made the right decision to come here. The open layout was immediately comforting to both us and our dog. I had noticed the comment on the website that said that this would be a different sort of experience, but I didn't really think about it. After experiencing this place, I don't think I could go back to the old way of being separated while your pet is taken into some back room. If I could give them ten stars, I would. I hope we don't need an emergency vet again, but if we do, we won't go anywhere else.

The staff presented me with various care options with no judgement or pressure to choose a treatment plan throughout the process. They even offered snacks and drinks while I waited. It was for my dog and family just not to Medvet Dayton. my mother, my dog Mitch and I waited over 2 hours while the staff watched my dog suffering puking 8 times in the waiting area. Me and my mom kept waiting and waiting PRAYING FOR MITCH TO BE CALLED BACK. I had filled out a poison control sheet, spoke to a toxicologist at 2:50 Pm. Why wasn't this done at arrival? Mitch needs to see someone it's 3:00 PM and we arrived at 1:20PM! I had to cry and beg just for a private room so he wasn't so anxious while continuing to throw up. We got one! Finally he's going to be seen! Nope. 2 different assistants popped in asked unrelated questions. One gave false information and to the Dr. around 4:01 PM Megan comes in to tell us that Mitch had a large amount of toxins and would most likely not make it but the toxicologists options were 1) hospitalization 2) outpatient ..we were devastated after hearing the news she had and strapped financially I told her to give us a minute to figured this out. Before she left the room she recommended euthanizing Mitch to save on funds. Leaving us heartbroken being told there's zero hope is heartbreaking! After all this waiting you just want to kill my dog? A few minutes turned into an hour. we came up with the money 10 minutes later after I asked for a few minutes.. we waited for someone. Anyone to come back!! I had to go to the front desk hysterical asking for help AGAIN! The assistant comes in we tell her we decided on outpatient we have the funds. Will be paying by credit card over the phone. We were going to leave soon this what my mother described as a bad nightmare was almost over! It wasn't... the assistant never told the doctor our decision wasting more precious time for my Mitch. My dad was going to pay with CC over the phone. He kept calling asking why it's taking so long and told me to go up front and ask if we can just pay. Of course they had the invoice. They want money. At 6:21 PM my father gave his CC info to Audrey over the phone. I knew we were in a bad situation after about an hour of being there so I started to document and time stamp EVERYTHING! Absolutely everything. Every conversation, every time he puked. I mean EVERYTHING! While she had my phone getting the CC info a girl walks out to the waiting room with Mitch? But we weren't in the waiting room.. it just so happen was up front trying to leave. I quickly grabbed him. I was frantically texting close friends asking for prayers thinking my dog would die last night. and one friend it took him a few hours to respond but his response made my heart drop to the floor "go anywhere but Medvet Dayton" describing his 2 horrific situations. It was too late. We were already there. They already had Mitch. We were stuck in what felt like living hell. There was zero compassion let alone did anyone great my happy social boy or acknowledge his existence. We got the charcoal and medication. Why didn't they give them charcoal? Isn't that VITAL? I didn't trust anyone there anyways but it just showed me how much they did not care. At home Mitch finally got 162 ML of charcoal down by me and my mother at 9:06 PM. 8.5 hours after toxicity. Mitch may not make it. I know that. It's not their fault he got into asprin. However it is their fault with their lack of urgency, misinformation, compassion or even a ounce of hope for my Mitch! Because of this his chance at survival is even lower. Please never ever take your pets here. This was one of the most horrific experiences of my life. MedVet at the very least owes us a huge apology and a refund. That won't ever happen. I'll make sure everyone I know will know about this horrific place and how we were treated. I'll advocate for Mitch even if he passes and all the other animals until I die. This is cruelty to say the very least.. they failed Mitch. They will keep failing other babies too.

I said I would be there at 3 he said ok. We arrived, per discharge orders nothing around neck for 2 weeks, soft food in the size of meatballs no strenuous exercise, jumping, etc. she said meds were to be given at 4pm. By this time it was about 330 my other half said we lived two hours away and that incompetent tech said she will be ok until we got home. we were sent to check out where in over paid what they told me the cost was. 6,000-7200. We paid 7640 and change: when I asked why the receptionist called back to a woman who said she wasn't by her computer that it was probably because the high flow oxygen That she would call me. As this was all going down the tech brought my Piper out with a cone and a lead wrapped around her neck And a huge blanket wrapped around her.My finance asked why the cone she said so she doesn't lick her incisions, fun fact she is a frenchie they can't lick themselves. She said she needed to get the lead, it was wrapped so tight around her neck and in the blanket that we had to peel it off. I finished checking out, Piper wasn't herself but we figured it waa from surgery. I ripped the cone off immediately and we got in the car. We got home after 6! I have Piper the prescribed dosage of meds and she started having this panting attack. When I talked to her she acted as if she was able to turn it on and off but it would stop so I gave her some more trazadone as the tech who I then called and dr Kennedy also confirmed was ok. At this point Piper wouldn't take the meds regularly so we had to crush them and put with water and use a syring. Again the tech that I called and I called a lot said that was perfectly fine. I asked about the panting attack and she said to make sure we give her meds to her on time. (completely opposite what the discharge person said, again incompetent) She calmed after 15/20 min. Later that night at 3am I got woke up Piper was doing it again. i Took her out and put a fan on her to cool her down as she panting and it took me about 15min to calm her that time. At 6 was her next round of meds in which she didn't want to take but I gave them slowly crushed in water. She was relaxed, I had my cameras on her all day in my house. I called Medvet at 8am told the person who answered who I was and what was going on and that I was told if there was a problem to call. She rudely told me they weren't talking to me they are only doing intakes to call back and hung up. Around 10 another person called to check on Piper. I then relayed everything we went through over night, I asked how much water Piper needed to drink so she didn't dehydrate and how I was suppose to give her prednisone bc she won't eat. She said she would call em back after she talked to dr. She called back 15min later said dr kennedy said everything i was doing wa weight, not to worry about the water intake as the prednisone would make her thirsty and hungry to jusy crush it up with the rest of her pills like i had been. He also said that these panting attacks were normal as long as she calms we were ok. Piper was ok until 2pm med time. She once again went into another panting attack, she was easily calmed. My fiancé cleaned up the water bowl and syringe and came back in the room Piper was resting or so he thought. Piper raised her head looked at him and that quick died. Through this Piper wasnt able to walk out to the lobby which is why the lead was on her to begin with at discharge and she put the cone around her neck even though the dr said nothing around the neck bc she was nipping. Piper couldn't walk bc she wasn't stable enough to walk, she was struggling to the moment she die! Medvet needs shut down, after reading about other people they gave wrong dosages for meds that could have killed soemone else's animal or they screwed up with others and they also killed their animal. They don't care about your pet, they want you money and only your money. This grief is like no Other and lucky for these people I wrote down everything everytime I called, every hit of water, med, everything . You incompetent techs have no right to give medical advise over the phone or even be there! When I called to tell them Piper died dr Kennedy got on the phone of course said nothing but i went back through his discharge instructions he agreed with everything I said.
