Absolutely avoid this place at all costs. 3 Hours and over $500 later we left with a misdiagnosis for out senior cat. She was in severe pain and nothing was done to help her or get her comfortable. We had two vet opinions after going here and both vets were extremely displeased with the false information and diagnosis we were given by Dr. Hawkins. Our poor cat was left in pain with zero help what so ever all weekend after leaving here. Please do not take your pets here as you will leave with no guidance or real information on how to help your fur babies. Would give this place negative stars if possible. read more

Greater Cincinnati Veterinary Specialists and Emergency Services in Wilder Kentucky is horrible. I'm sharing this to warn anyone who needs an emergency vet near here so they can avoid them. Our cat, Rudy, was battling a lot of serious health issues. He was a rescued cat and suffered seizures and was fiv positive. We were on a palliative care treatment plan with our regular vet, who is amazing but was closed. Our cat had a couple of seizures over the weekend then experienced what appeared to be a stroke late Sunday evening. We rushed him to the nearest emergency vet because he was in pain, scared, and with his poor health status we decided to offer him mercy through euthanasia. When we got to the emergency vet they explained that the vet would assess him, place the catheter IV in his leg, and then bring him to us to spend as much time saying goodbye as we needed, then they would perform the sedation and euthanasia with us holding him. They took him to an exam room to insert the catheter, a procedure I've watched dozens of times over the years with animals I've taken to various vets. When an hour passed we asked the front desk what the delay was and they said, "Rudy was being ornery and they were having a hard time putting the catheter in" which was an immediate huge red flag as Rudy has tolerated painful medical procedures without flinching or complaint with our regular vet, who described him as a very docile patient and "wished every cat was as easygoing as Rudy" Another half hour and I approached the front desk and said I needed to be with Rudy and I was concerned about the issues and delays. The person at the front desk called then said they weren't answering their phone then walked back to the exam room to get them. The vet came and asked if they could mildly sedate him and we agreed. More time passed and we approached the front desk yet again because at this point I was considering other vets, other options. Something wasn't right. Then the vet came and talked to me in the hallway and said they had bent the needles trying to place the catheter and that "he had very thick skin" and I told her to bring our cat to us. When they brought him to us he was so sedated his skin was cold and he was barely breathing. Every leg has been stuck multiple times and I watched her try several times unsuccessfully in the rear leg, with the vet and the tech debating where his veins were. At this point I told them to stop and the vet decided he should be euthanized by cardiac stick. I definitely did not want to have him euthanized by cardiac stick. I wanted to leave with my cat but they insisted they would legally have to take him out of sedation in order for us to leave with him, although I've brought home other animals in the past from other vets who were sedated from medical procedures. At this point, I felt he had suffered so much at this vet and he is traumatized by car rides, that I had very few options. Not only did this vet rob us of a small window of time to say goodbye to our cat before they made him practically comatose with heavy sedation, but they poked and prodded for nearly two hours without informing us of any issues with the catheter. Instead, in our grief and anxiety we were forced to go searching the front desk for answers, horrified by the incompetent catheter attempts, and what I know in my heart to be a botched euthanasia. My sweet, gentle baby boy suffered needlessly at the hands of these ill trained, unskilled "vets" who also condescendingly explained that cardiac stick euthanasia was fairly common and humane. Which is simply not true. I have rescued animals for decades, was a licensed wildlife rehabber, and have worked closely with vets to understand care, treatment, and eventually a humane passing for many animals, whether rescued or long-term animal companions. I have never experienced a veterinarian hospital so completely unprofessional, incompetent, and as apathetic as Greater Cincinnati Veterinary Specialists and Emergency Services. Please do not ever take any animal to this awful place. Rudy deserved so much better. read more

Our diabetic dog had a seizure. That is not normal. He was acting fine, but as a precaution, we wanted to make sure it was an isolated incident. This involved blood glucose test. A full blood panel and urinalysis was recommended and we agreed. We advised per his treatment plan, that he eats at 7pm and gets his second daily insulin dose right after. This process took over FIVE HOURS. Our dog was separated from us this entire time. Which is completely unacceptable for a multitude of reasons. Nearing the 4hr mark, we advise we need to go. Our requests were ignored. He's been here long enough, you should have the specimens you need, just call us with the results. My husband had to practically beg for our dog to be returned to us. Finally, I call after reading his frantic text messages. I was more than firm with the I assume "manager"? that answered the phone, and she very condescendingly informed me they'd release him with an AMA (against medical advice form), without any medications, and that this is an E-R, it takes time.. all of this was said very slowly, I'm sure to make sure I understood... Our senior, blind, diabetic dog is isolated from us in some mysterious room, scared, exhausted and likely getting very hungry as time went on and they gave zero care to my husbands many requests to return him. Once our dog was finally returned to us, the catheter was left in his paw and still needed to be removed..... I have already reported them to the state veterinary board for their negligence. They ignored repeated requests to have our dog returned to us, and delayed the only possible treatment for his high blood sugar by not allowing us to bring him home and administer his insulin. We paid $635 for our dog to be held against our wishes, forgotten in some back room we didn't have access to, because they were "busy". No animal should pay for a clinics lack of time management skills. read more

I was referred to a GCVS because we needed a dermatologist/specialist to help determine what allergies plague my sweet Olive kitty. She is so itchy! We haven't found our solution yet, but my initial consultation with Dr. Stephanie Bruner was great. She is kind, upbeat, informative, patient, and I had a great first time visit with her. Fingers crossed, with an elimination diet, we can find out what is causing her skin to flare. Otherwise, I'll be back to do an allergy test. read more

My mother and I took my brother's dog that has been staying with my mother to GCVS on Sunday, August 6, 2023. My brother's dog is 14 years old and she did not eat on Saturday and she had been acting lethargic. My mother was worried about what could be wrong with her and that she might be dehydrated, so we decided to take her to your practice for emergency services. GCVS treated my cat approximately 8 years ago. We used their emergency services and follow-up treatment services, and I had a good experience with them. They were actually recommended to me by my veterinarian. We arrived at GCVS between 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. that Sunday morning. My understanding is that their regular hours begin at 8:00 a.m. After waiting about an hour, our dog was seen by a Vet Tech who took her vital signs and spoke at length with us about what was wrong with the dog and took notes. There were two veterinarians at their practice that day. After the vet tech saw our dog, we went back to the waiting room and after about another hour, we finally saw the Vet and the first thing the vet asked us is , "Why did you bring your dog in today?" So, once again, we had to tell what was wrong with the dog and why we were seeking emergency services. I don't know why we were seen by the Vet Tech if we must repeat ourselves all over again to the Vet. The Vet didn't examine our dog until approximately 10:00-10:15 and talked to us about a number of things that could be wrong with her. He recommended a lot of tests. We knew with a 14 year old dog that bloodwork was necessary, but we decided to go to our regular vet for that once we saw their prices and once we had already waited 2 hours just to be seen. It took another half hour for the vet to produce a written recommendation which we really did not need. We complained about how long it was taking, and he said they were shorthanded. I saw at least four different assistants working that morning, so I wondered just how many assistants that vet needed. It didn't make any sense to me. We told him we decided we just wanted a shot of fluids for our dog. After another hour and a half to 2 hours, at approximately 12:00 noon, another vet tech came to the exam room and said she was going to give our dog fluids. We had to sign several waivers and I didn't understand why multiple waivers were needed. When we complained about how long it had been taking, she said she had just arrived. We didn't leave GCVS until 12:30-12:45 p.m. that day and all we needed was a fluid shot. We received a lengthy discharge summary that we did not need. While we were sitting in their waiting room for hours on end, we noticed that two veterinarians only treated approximately 4 animals in the 4 hours we were there. We were told there was an emergency, but aren't they an emergency service - aren't they better prepared for emergencies? From what I saw, the vets didn't arrive until 9:00 a.m., and they didn't start treating patients until 10:00 a.m. It was my understanding that the practice opens at 8:00 a.m. so why did it take so long for the vets to get there and start seeing patients? Like I said, it took two veterinarians and four assistants to see 4 animals in 4 hours. We will not return to GCVS, and we plan on telling family, friends, co-workers, everyone, about our horrible experience there. We especially plan on telling our vet about our bad experience. Next time we have an emergency, we will go elsewhere. GCVS is not equipped for emergencies and is very mismanaged, and disorganized. We heard a lot of excuses for their incompetence. Our dog had a cough ( very bad cough ) my wife took him here today . As soon as she came in the first part of the visit was about money !!! Then for a cough they wanted to do X-Rays . Then they figure everything up that they felt was necessary, which came to the grand total of almost 900 dollars , now mind you , our little boy hasn't even been seen yet . So I'm guessing this place is all about the money . My wife called me in a panic , I told her to take him to Ft Thomas , in 15 mins , after a visit , listen to him cough , took his temp . Determined in 15 mins he had Kennal Cough . Gave antibiotics, prescribed another med , and she was out the door , for 80 dollars . Most Vets get into this because they love animals , this joke of a place loves money !!!! So sad , I'd be ashamed if I was them . Just pitiful . read more

My 9 month old puppy has been suffering from chronic diarrhea since the day we got her. We've done a multitude of test and different treatments with no change or improvements. We have finally reached the point where our regular veterinary office recommended we see an internal medicine specialist. Greater Cincinnati Veterinary Specialists (GCVS) was recommended to us. We called and made appointment for the following week. Once I arrive at the appointment and I explain to the vet tech my dog's situation, the vet tech takes my dog and says that they're going to do vital signs on her and "will let me know the game plan for her". 30 minutes go by and the vet enters the room, but still no sign of my dog. At this point I'm wondering why they haven't brought her back to me yet, but then the doctor begins asking questions. He then starts talking about all of the potential things that could be wrong with her (most of the things I've already heard before) and he talks about all of the tests that we can do to get an answer. He then proceeds to tell me that while we can do all of these things, she may not ever be cured and he has seen people euthanize their animals for relentless diarrhea. He says he's going to get me a quote for the things he wants to start with and will let me look over it. Once he leaves the room, I begin to tear up at the thought of possibly having to put my 9 month old puppy down. 30 more minutes pass (still no sign of my dog) and the vet tech comes in with quotes for the "treatment plan". One of the things on the list was a parasite test (which we have done multiple of already and they've all been negative) and another is a deworming medication (that she has also already been on). I simply ask the vet tech why we have to do those things again since we've already done it. She then gets snarky with me and tells me "well your other vet gave you a liquid form of this medication for only 5 days which isn't effective and we do a powder for 7 days here." I said okay and asked about the parasite test again, she gets snarky with me once more and says "let me just get the vet for you" and walks out of the room. Still upset, I wait for him to come back in. 5 minutes later he swings open the door, rushes in, and yells, "I hear you have some questions for me?" I proceeded to ask my questions and he cuts me off and started yelling again that "he already told me all of this" and "do I need to sit down and reexplain this to you?". At this point I feel myself on the verge of a panic attack and I continue to cry while he continues to yell at me. Making remarks like "you went and got an expensive French bulldog and now she's a dud and you have to deal with the consequences." & "I'm not doing this with you. I'm not gonna go back and forth about what the owner wants to do and what she doesn't want to do because you want to cut cost and cut corners. If we're gonna fix her, we're gonna do it my way." He also says "if you want to go back to your other vet and beat a dead horse, do it. But your dog will never get better. You want to see another specialist? Fine, go pay $900 as soon as you walk in the door. If this isn't in your budget then just say that, but don't try to sit here and cut corners." (& let me be very clear, I NEVER mentioned anything about the cost of things or my budget). All I can say to him is "I don't understand why you're being so shitty to me, when all I did was ask a question." He then yells "I'm not getting shitty, I'm being very matter of fact and telling you how it is. You're dog is never getting better unless you do what I'm telling you to do and we start over and do everything the right way.." I'm in a fetal position, full blown panic attack to the point I can't get words out of my mouth and he continues to yell for about 5 more minutes. I couldn't even leave because they still had my dog in the back. He finally says "you can go home and talk to your partner about this before you make a decision and call us back when you're ready. This was just a consult, you don't have to do anything." At this point, I just said anything I could so I could get my dog back and leave. The vet tech comes in, brings me my dog (still being very rude) and I'm finally able to leave. I spent almost two hours at this place ALONE, I didn't have my dog, and was yelled at and belittled for asking a simple question about my dog's care. I am absolutely appalled at the unprofessional behavior and the treatment I received. In no way, shape, or form is it acceptable to treat another human being the way the vet did to me. Please consider my story before you bring your animal to this establishment. If they are willing to treat people poorly, I can't imagine the way they treat a helpless animal. I will NEVER be coming to this establishment again and I urge you to do the same. read more

Couldnt be more disappointed in this place, my fiancé took our cat which was in cardiac arrest to them because they are a "pet" emergency facility only to be turned away and told they are not accepting new patients and was told to go to red bank road. Unfortunately our cat which was alive when we arrived in Wilder could not hang on and stopped breathing on our way to Red Bank, Why call yourself an emergency facility if in an emergency you send patients away? Absolutely abysmal customer service. I made an appointment for my dog after being referred by another vet's office. I specifically made the appointment for a day that I was off work. When I showed up, the receptionist very rudely told me my appointment was the following Monday. I told her that I didn't make the appointment for that day, as I will be out of state that entire week. She refused to take any responsibility, provide any solutions or even reschedule - she just kept telling me she would see me next Monday. My dog is having fainting episodes daily (sometimes multiple times a day), so I now I have to wait even longer until I can get her in at another place, leaving her vulnerable to Sudden Cardiac Death. If you have any other options, do not take your pets here. They don't care and are extremely unprofessional. read more

Took my 5 yr old 92lb Female German Shepherd to Greater Cincinnati Veterinary Specialists referred by two separate veterinarians in the area to see Dr. Hodge. My German Shepherd has Hip dysplasia in her right hip and we believed that she tore her CCL=Cranial Cruciate Ligament (human has an ACL, knee). Since two vets have told me that Misha would probably need surgery to repair her CCL they referred me to Dr. Hodge. I spoke with a few other surgeons in the area for which procedure they would use to repair TPLO, TTA, etc. Getting prices and reading reviews. So Glad that we took Misha to Dr. Hodge. I had spoken with 2 other surgeons and one of them only did the TTA. The second surgeon, who is a traveling surgeon wanted to schedule the surgery over Email without seeing her. Ummm Nah.. Dr. Hodge said that she would do the TPLO if she were going to do the surgery. From my research I think the TPLO would be best. I guess this is a matter of opinion and I really don't know which would be best. Anyway lets get to the point.... Dr. Hodge evaluated Misha and believed that she hadn't completely torn her CCL from X-Rays and her physical evaluation. Dr Hodge recommended what is called "Conservative Management" (which we have been doing for appox 4 weeks) prescribed Rimadyl and Tramadol for her pain. Dr. Hodge referred us to Hot Diggity Dog Canine Water Fitness. I was at first a little skeptical of the referral thinking "everyone wants a shot at my wallet". Long story short. Misha is better than ever. I believe Dr. Hodge is a very caring surgeon and doesn't think the the "knife" is always the best fix. So So SO Glad we went to GCVS and seen Dr. Hodge. read more

STAY AWAY FROM GREATER CINCINNATI VETERINARY SPECIALISTS!!!! I went there on July 28, 2018 when my pup was bit by another dog. They took me back to a room and 2 hours no one had come back to see him. I walked up front with my dog and there were 4 techs sitting up in the office area laughing. I asked how long it would be for him to be seen. They stated they had an emergency come in. I asked if they have more than one vet. She laughed and told me there were several back there. Still laughing, she asked for his name. I told them and all she said was, " ok, I'll take him off the board". I told her "good, I'm leaving to take his to a better place", where she replied "good luck with that". Best decision I made was taking him to MedVet. Within 3 minutes, he was seen by a vet. From there, they took him back and was given 22 stitches and 9 staples. If you're looking for a place to take your beloved pets, drive the extra 15 minutes to MedVet. Again I will say - STAY AWAY FROM GREATER CINCINNATI VETERINARY SPECIALISTS!!!! read more

I had to make the decision to have my sweet cat, Butter put down. I was so hesitant to come here because of the reviews of the staff not showing compassion, and that was all I really wanted on that night. It was $97 for the euthanasia here or $201 at a different place. I decided to come here because ultimately it was going to be the same outcome. The staff here blew my mind and I was so surprised. They were so gentle with Butter and were so kind and considerate. They were willing to let me have more time with her and were so patient with me. At first I only came here because I wanted to help my Butter but also not spend over $200, but I walked away knowing that they took good care of her and were so kind. read more

Years ago My cat was diagnosed by a different vet for hip dysphasia and was unfortunately given a very bad surgery and just never really seem to recover. What was once a jumping, climbing, happy cat had become lethargic and depressed. Thank god we found Dr.Hodge! She put us on the right medication helped us figure out ways to help our cat lose some weight and now here we are three years later and our cat is back to jumping and climbing and he is just doing so much better than where he was and it really is all thanks to the people here. My regular Vet (whom I trust) generally recommends Grady's Hospital in Cincinnati, however because I live in KY - sent me to GCVS&ES, Dr. Brunner. - The earliest appointment I could get was 2 weeks out because - according to the Receptionist - the Specialists Vets were on Vacation. I arrived at my appointment ($90) and waited over an hour before the Vet came to our room. After the chest Xray ($137. for 2 views) - the diagnosis is dire. There are "unknown" obstructions, possibly tumors in my Pups lungs that are causing him to cough. Should I go forward, I will have to get a CATScan ($800) and a biopsy ($$$). - The alternative being a prescription for his cough that will make him comfortable until I am ready to put him to sleep....The Office Manager suggested I take him elsewhere to be put to sleep and cremated as there cost is $45 for the shots and $100 to have him cremated ($175 if I wish to have his ashes). Horribly devastated by this news and sobbing - I asked for the prescription and went to the receptionist to pay the $227 and get my Dogs Prescription. It Took OVER AN HOUR for me to Pay the Fee and receive the Prescription because the Dr. Brunner had not yet entered the information into the computer nor written my script! While I was waiting - weeping the entire time while two caged birds used as "decoration" in the reception area made alarming squaking noises - the receptionist finally was able to process my bill but I had to continue to wait for the script. When she brought it too me she said "The Doctor said you will have to make several calls to various pharmacies to find the drug because most do not carry this cough suppressant! - And she handed me the script with writing that I could not read. I went to my car and called my regular Pharm (Walgreens in Covington)and attempted to read the script. THe Parm did not know the the drug as I had attempted to spell it, and I walked back into the office and asked the receptionist for her help. She did NOT Know the Drug either - fortunately there was a tech available who did know and spelled the drug out for me. My regular Walgreens did not carry it, but offered to call other Walgreens local. While I waited, I asked the Receptionist to ask the Doctor if there might be an alternative medication as I may not be able to find this medicine. She had already become "snarky" with me and said the Doctor is with other patients and there was nothing she could do. Moreover, they don't locate medications for patients. I said as calmly as I could, that I had just spent a lot of money in this facility only to learn that I have to put my best friend to sleep. So if I have to sit in the reception area and call every pharmacy in Cincinnati to locate this medication then I will - Because WHAT is the use of have a prescription for a medication I can not locate?! A Vet tech over-heard the numerous rude comments of her annoyed coworker and the fact that I was crying made it clear I was in terrible distress. She went and asked the Doctor if there was an alternative and where I might find the medication. She returned with the message that there was no other medication the Doctor recommends and to try locating the drug "on-line". By this time my Walgreen's Pharm returned on the line and gave me two Walgreen Pharmacies that had the drug available. My Dog is presently resting comfortably. Given my terrible experience with GCVS, I suppose there is always a chance that he was misdiagnosed. In the meantime I will pray for a miracle and suggest that GCVS seriously revisits the fact that our beloved dogs and cats are family, and it is bad enough to have to wait to be seen - but to have to wait to pay there extraordinarily high fees and deal with a receptionist that has the compassion of a viper is truly unacceptable. I realize that Veterinaries are a business and equipment such as X ray machines etc are expensive. But again, given the high fees I believe that making the entire process from beginning to end should be as seemless, helpful, and compassionate as possible. I hope others had a much better experience. read more

Do not go here if you expect to be treated with respect or even if you just want people not to be kind and know how to deal with the public. Absolute worst front desk staff- nasty and with no care for the humans that bring in their pets and a manager who cares only about supporting them and makes false promises. Only reason I give this 2 stars is because Dr. Bruner is super nice (even though he delegates nearly everything to his techs (at least one of which is just as bad as the front desk staff) and seems to care about the animals and people that go to the clinic. Seriously, all anyone really wants is to deal with a competent and caring staff. Will be going to MedVet from now on. read more

Do you have any other option? If so, I would do that. This hospital is more focused on avoiding liability than on pet care. With each visit, I am told all of the possible ailments and then asked to pick how to proceed. I go to a doctor for guidance - especially during an emergency. I am aware that there are consequences, but a veterinarian needs to give guidance - along with a level of care. Very long wait times. They've helped me in a pinch, but I sure wish there was another choice. read more

I don't usually write reviews but I signed up for a yelp account just to leave a review here. I was referred to this clinic by another vet for my dog's stomach issues causing him diarrhea. They prescribed him two different medications for his condition, as well as giving him an injectable medication for nausea which was meant to prevent him from vomiting. During my visit, I mentioned he had vomitted once 5 days prior but had not had the problem since. They mentioned this medication as a possible solution. I had not authorized the use of this medication before they gave it to my dog anyways. Only when I reviewed my itemized receipt for the visit did I discover that the cost of this medication was over double the price of both the emergency fee and the actual medication I needed. They told me while I was there that it had already been administered so I had to pay, even though I did not want or need this for my dog's condition. Upon discovering the cost of this medication, I looked at the clinic's website to find their email to request a refund. Not only was there no email listed on their website, but the vets who worked there did not provide their emails and further inquiry made it apparent that each of them had intentionally excluded their contact information from every website which included their name. The website for the clinic listed only the phone number and fax number for their office. Getting quite frustrated, I drafted a letter requesting a refund and learned how to use a fax machine for the sole purpose of getting this request to them, which has yet to be answered. I would not recommend this place nor will I return for their services in the future. When I asked other pet owners if they had dealt with this clinic before, anyone who mentioned using this clinic all had bad experiences. 0/10, quite frustrated. read more

On the evening of July 15th, I got a call from my mom telling me our dog, Ray, had collapsed and soiled the carpet. He eventually stood up, only after about 10 seconds of not moving. This was very concerning to our family, so we called our vet and they recommended this establishment as a place we can go to as an emergency (our normal vet was closed at this time). Initially upon arrival, my dad and I were impressed because of how attentive the front desk workers were, seeing as it was that we both were beside ourselves and VERY concerned about our dog. However, this is where it took a turn for the worst. We had to wait almost 10-15 minutes to get a room and after we eventually got into an exam room, we waited THREE AND A HALF HOURS for someone to come in. After the first hour, I walked out of the room to ask for help - to get some sort of idea of when someone would check on Ray. Neither my dad nor myself knew what was going on with Ray because he was not acting normally at all. No one came in until I said something, and that lasted (maybe) 3 minutes at most. He even got bumped down several spots because of an emergency situation. I think collapsing on the floor and being incontinent of urine is pretty close to an emergency. Instead, we were told by some techs in passing that he probably had a seizure and that many dogs have seizures. Around 1:30 in the morning, the vet eventually came in. And shortly after that, while tests were being run, Ray suffered a cardiac arrest and died. Would being seen sooner have changed the outcome? I don't know. I do not work with animals on a regular basis. What I do know is it felt as if our situation was not "important". And while I do understand there are other dogs may have been in an emergency situation, waiting all night for this outcome was not right. I would have rather had Ray home with us and be loved by his family if he was to pass on (if that was going to be the case anyway). I would not recommend taking your pet to this facility if it is an actual emergency, because they may not be seen until it is too late. I'd like to add that two positive notes during this heartbreaking and frustrating experience were when we were about to leave Ray for the last time, the front desk workers were kind and offered us nose and paw prints. Dog had been being treated by regular vet and suffering with multiple open sores and itching for 8 months. Had gotten so bad had considered euthanasia if unable to make her comfortable. Had an initial consult. Everyone was pleasant. Dr Bruner was attentive and thorough. Within a month of treatment, dog is content and skin is doing great!! read more

I called a few weeks to see if I needed to make an appointment for my Rottweiler because her front feet and toes are turning and she can barely walk. We live an hour away!! We've been there years ago and Dr. HODGES did major surgery on both her legs!! I was told on the call that I can't get an appointment unless referred, but can bring her in to the emergency. We arrived today at 1. Mind you this ride killed my poor dogs feet and she was extra miserable!! We take her in. The girls at the front desk wouldn't even acknowledge us first. When they did, they weren't very pleasant nor helpful. Told us basically it didn't matter what we were told, we'd have to come back at 4 if we wanted to be seen. They didn't care. This is not how we were treated 6 years ago. I thought you were there to help our furbabies. Very disappointing. I've changed my whole outlook on this animal hospital. Not only would I not recommend this practice, I reported the unethical dishonest neglect to the governing bodies that protect us from such disgusting human behavior. When bloodwork and ultrasound and a 5 day stay at their facility failed to provide a diagnosis she underwent a bone marrow aspiration on 4/7/21. DO NOT GO TO l GREATER CINCINNATI VETERINARY SPECIALIST IN WILDER, KY FOR ANY REASON!!!!! At 12:30 am on 8/8 I took my dog into their office for a neck wound. The doctor told me looking at it, it's a torn muscle and he can fix it. No X-ray or scan was done or offered to us. So we took the doctors word and he told us to come pick the dog up at 7 am. When we did so at 7 am she had a large wrap around her neck and said he repaired her muscle and sutured her neck shut. She came home and acted weird. Not eating or drinking, not going to the bathroom, and was panting and tongue was hanging out of her mouth and she smelled of bowel yet hadn't gone. I called the office the same day at noon 8/8 to advise of behavior and respiratory concern and they told me this was normal for after surgery and if she was like this the NEXT morning then to see my primary vet. The respiratory issues increased and continued so I called my primary vet at 4:45 pm 8/8 and they told me it seemed alarming and to give some pain medicine but if no change in 45 min then to bring the dog in. 15 min later at 5 pm on 8/8, 10 hours after we picked the dog up, she laid down and died. Before we buried her, we took the wrapping off of her neck and her neck was NEVER sutured shut like it had been instructed to us. I called the office that night to speak with the doctor and my call was never returned. I called the office the next morning 8/9 and didn't receive a call back until I called 3 more times. I spoke with the manager BRITNEY and she told me the staff said I NEVER called with concerns of respiratory issues and that the dog was fine and "what happens when the dog leaves is not their concern". The staff lied and in return I was left with a dead pet. With no apology, sympathy, or empathy, BRITNEY yelled at me on the phone and continuously said they were not to blame for what had happened and denied their negligence. I asked for a refund for medicine I didn't even use and a procedure that didn't work and was DENIED. I wasn't even offered partial reimbursement or as much as an apology. DO NOT GO TO THIS OFFICE!!!!! You're better off treating your injured pet at home yourself. Our dog died 10 hours after leaving this office because of negligence, poor judgment, and improper care! read more

Please Don't take your pets here... Drive the extra miles to Red Bank Road in Cincinnati! So I rushed my dog there at 1 am on a December night in 2014. My poor 15+ dog was bleeding so bad he was slinging blood all over the walls of the examination room. The office manager did not know how to work the computer and I offered to help since I use a computer for my living. The night vet wasn't happy with this and chewed the poor office worker out because I was helping her. The vet wanted to run a number of very expensive tests and didn't know if my dog would survive them. We told the technician that we were going to put my dog down and then the vet walked in and demanded money. Wasn't going to 'release' my dog from the back unless I paid them money. Really? What happened to having a little compassion and humanity? Guess the Almighty Dollar means more to the vet than the Veterinary Oath she took: "Being admitted to the profession of veterinary medicine, I solemnly swear to use my scientific knowledge and skills for the benefit of society through the protection of animal health and welfare, the prevention and relief of animal suffering, the conservation of animal resources, the promotion of public health, and the advancement of medical knowledge. I have used their service before and they were great so it's sad that I have to give them a 1 star, but after how I was treated tonight I would give them a zero. I witnessed a cat get hit by a car and I stopped to see if I could help him. He was moving but in obvious pain so I knew he needed medical attention. I drove him here and called on the way and spoke with Jennifer who was painfully rude. I wanted to surrender care for him since he's not my cat but I didn't want him to suffer and she told me I would have to pay full price for him and take financial responsibility. My experience with this place was horrible. The employees there have absolutely no compassion what so ever. Arrived there around midnight and waited almost 2 hours to be seen (I was the only person there in the parking lot waiting to be seen). Another vehicle pulls up and is taken in immediately. We have taken 2 of our 4 dogs in for emergencies, and the entire staff was wonderful both times. Dr. Bruner and especially Dr. Hodge took excellent care of Wiley when she needed major surgery for a splenic tumor (our regular vet Dr. Bob at Plum St. Pet Clinic recommended them), and Dr. Krawec was great with our 18 year old Wilma last night when we thought she had broken a leg (happily it was not broken). The facility/kennel is clean and well maintained and the staff was happy to show us around all areas before we left Wiley there for her surgery. Wiley was actually excited to go back and visit the staff for her post-surgery follow-ups, she had no fear : ) I have full confidence in the staff and doctors and appreciate their care and obvious love for animals. Called here to see iof they would see me and my dog on a specialty service and was told I am not to bea part of the consult and was expected to sit in a freezing car while they took my dog, not allowing me to take part in care. When I stated this is not good medicine I was given the excuse of covid, even though you can go into a store or any other medical apt, then she waited for no response and hung up. This is the best they have to offer rude desk staff. In 30 years of dealing with animals and animal medical care this is not a place I would go if this is how they practice right off the bat. Who knows what is being done while your not around if this is how you get treated as a client how are they treating your furry family member? read more

Dr. Hodge did an incredible job on my dog's TPLO surgery! I have a 4 year old Golden Retriever mix who hurt his leg running through the woods. My Vet believed that he tore his CCL (ACL in humans) and referred us to Greater Cincinnati Veterinary Specialists to see Dr. Hodge. I did some research on my own on all of the available procedures TPLO, TTA, etc. Because my dog loves running with me and is a very active, large breed dog TPLO seemed the best way to go. At our initial consultation, Dr. Hodge informed us that he did need surgery as his CCL was completely torn and that the TPLO would be the surgery she would recommend for his situation. She explained all of the available procedures and gave us the facts and information up front. She was never pushy or seemed like she was trying to sell you on the more expensive procedure, but gave you all of the information you'd need to make an informed decision. We scheduled our surgery for a few weeks later and I am so glad that we chose Dr. Hodge as our surgeon for the procedure! In comparison with the other surgeons in the area, her prices were very reasonable and everything was all included in that one price (X-rays, medication, procedure, appointments, etc. even 2 free water treadmill appointments at Hot Diggity Dog Water Fitness). She completed the procedure and called us that same day to let us know how everything went and how our dog was doing. We were able to pick him up the next morning to bring him home and had to follow Dr. Hodge's post-surgery requirements very strictly. He had to be confined to one small area of the house, had to use the cone when we were not watching him, needed to be leashed when going outside to use the bathroom and was not allowed to go on furniture or up or down stairs. Our 2 week follow up appointment went very well and we were able to ditch the cone, could start going for short walks again and begin his flexion and extension therapy exercises. We chose to purchase a water treadmill therapy package with Hot Diggity Dog Water Fitness as well to help him start gaining back muscle in his leg. We recently had our 8 week follow up appointment with Dr. Hodge where she did another set of X-rays and informed us that his bone is completely healed! He will be allowed to go up and down stairs again and get on the furniture and we will have one more month of working back up to no restrictions by gradually increasing the length and speed of our walks. I couldn't be happier with how the surgery turned out and how well of a job Dr. Hodge did. She was extremely accommodating and helpful every step of the way and our dog loved seeing her at each appointment! read more

My 9 yr old cat had a stroke late at night. I called Med Vet on Red Bank and was advised it would be a 10 - 12 hour wait. ???. So I brought him here where I have used their services in the distant past. I am 70 years old and have limited mobility. I carried my kitty in his carrier to the front door only to find it locked. I knocked several times loudly and nobody answered. There is no doorbell to ring and no phone numbers listed on the windows and doors that I could see, So I returned to my car and dug though my wallet and found a business card with their number which I called. When the phone was answered, I asked are you open for business, she said yes, wassup! Omg. I explained I was in the parking lot trying to get in and she said they keep the door locked after midnight. We came in and I filled out paperwork and sat there for over an hour and nobody came to assess my cat. I went looking for an employee, only to find another distraught client like me trying to find someone. I left. I was able to get in to see my regular vet right away later that morning. What in the name of all that is holy is with these so called emergency clinics? I'm appalled! And reading the other comments on here, my heart breaks for these people. read more
