I am a doctor myself, and I can't imagine, under any circumstances, ever treating a patient the way I was treated by Dr. Hirsch and his staff. Besides being rude and they were downright aggressive. But they always have been. I have never found them to be sensitive to the needs of my pet and certainly not respectful of my time or my concerns about her welfare. It is very clear that their priorities focus on charging as much as they can, and in the process pride themselves on their rudeness. read more

The lady with the purple hair that works at the reception desk is awful! She's snarky and extremely rude for no reason. She is why I'm switching vets after coming here for six years. I'm not giving my time and money anymore to a place that lets someone talk to people the way she does. The vet techs are the complete opposite and are so sweet. read more

Outdated vet. owner. Not knowledgeable about newer treatments and will not listen to the patient's care giver. He appears to be baffled and confused about things. One vet seems to be part time. Not good to have to wait 2 weeks to get in. They do not accomodate pet emergencies. We left their practice after 20 years ... No longer recommended. read more

Lack of care and competence. When my cat went for his annual here in 2023, the vet felt something in his abdomen which he felt sure was cancer and sent me to medvet. Long story short, my cat was misdiagnosed with cancer at medvet. I discovered this months later after taking him for a 2nd opinion - it's a lipoma, not cancer. So I called Oakley Square to bring him in to be evaluated for surgery. It was a struggle. I am 63 with a bad back and this is a big, terrified cat. When I got there after waiting 20 minutes in the exam room I was told, "Oh sorry our surgeon isn't here today to evaluate him. Our receptionist made a mistake." Now I have to start all over and try to establish care with a new vet. My poor cat needs this thing out. Horrible experience. read more

My cat is currently on Metamizole for hyperthyroidism prescribed by a different vet. He seems to be experiencing side effects and I wanted another vets opinion on everything. As I was on the phone with the office trying to provide my reason for calling, the women interrupted me to ask "what is your name so I can pull up your account?" When I responded with "oh I don't have an account..." and was following that up with "I'm calling to get an opinion on if I should bring my pet in due to these symptoms" she spoke over me and said "we can't tell you anything without seeing the cat." Then I hung up because if you're going to be rude by interrupting and talking over customers within the first 30 seconds (the call was only 43 seconds long) how are you going to treat my cat? Had she let me finish talking, I would have asked when the next available appointment was so my cat could been seen by them. read more

I'm really sad to report that this will no longer be our vet. We've been going here with our dog for almost a year and the services we've been provided have been worse each visit. We have a large breed black 1.5year old Great Dane and she can be very nervous/jumpy in new situations - one doctor took that as aggressive behavior and has decided our dog needs to be put in a muzzle anytime she comes into the vet. We've tried reasoning with the vet team and they are unwilling to see that she is a gentle, sweet and loving dog. She's now afraid to go to the vet because of this experience. I would not recommend anyone use this vet if they have a large breed. read more

We have had countless excellent experiences with this vet. No pup or owner likes going to the vet, but our experiences here have been nearly seemless. First, they are always very pleasant, respectful and accommodating on the phone and in the clinic. Our pup sometimes gets sick unexpectedly, and Oakley square animal hospital has always been very flexible with seeing hIm in a timely manner. Their prices are very reasonable, and I have never felt like they were doing or recommending unnecessary things to try and make money. I have been taking my 17 year old Italian Greyhound here forever. They are the nicest people in the world. Dr Getz is the best though. I'm sure they are all fantastic but Dr Getz has been my dogs primary Doctor. He is so caring and will go out of his way to do anything for you and your dog. Totally recommend bringing your pets here. Oakley Vet is a first rate vet clinic. I started bringing my mini doodle here over 5 years ago. I couldn't imagine taking her anywhere else. The office is tucked behind a Subway in Oakley Square. The parking is a bit tight, and the office is plain with old church pews for seating. But, it is clean and has attentive and caring staff. That is what matters! We love to see Dr. Bends. Her calm voice, caring nature and gentle hands are appreciated by my furry friend. She is knowledgeable and always takes time to answer my questions. I know my pup and I are in great hands and feel comfortable asking, 'if this was you, what would you do.' We are lucky to have found Oakley Vet! read more

Dr. Hearst is a truly amazing doctor. When I brought my ancient cat in I was sadly sure she had a stroke and was dying. Dr. Hearst discovered my cat had an infection similar to a cold, common in old cats. It causes dizziness and the appearance of stroke. Another time my cat was not eating, Dr. Hearst discovered the cat had a bad gum infection. He sent me home with a special food that looked like liver pate. My cat loved it and is on the road to recovery after a booster shot to kill the bad bacteria. I've been to many other vets in this region and can truly tell you Dr. Hearst is the absolute best! read more

I became increasingly concerned due to her weight loss and decided to take her to see another Vet that could get me in sooner. Luckily that was Oakley Square Animal Hospital. Dr. Getz showed such concern and didn't try to just sell me on a service that my cat didn't need. My cat ended up having cancer and was probably in a great deal of pain, which I wouldn't have known if I wasn't provided such swift and thoughtful care at this office. read more

We've been going to Oakley Square Animal Hospital ever since we adopted our dog nearly 7 years ago. The fees are reasonable, the office is clean, the location is convenient, and there's plenty of parking. More importantly, the staff is very friendly and professional, and the doctors are thorough, knowledgeable and inspire confidence. They've given us some good tips over the years too -- little things we can do at home for minor problems instead of having to bring our dog in every time. (Pepto for an upset stomach, hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting, yogurt with probiotics for digestive irritation.) When we do have to come in for annual check-ups and shots, my dog, while small, can get very nervous. The Oakley Square Animal Hospital staff and doctors are good about holding him still and making everything as quick and pain-free as possible. read more

My dog wasn't acting like herself and it seemed like her back and rear legs were hurting her. I was prepared for the worst bill ever as I assumed they would have to do lots of tests to diagnose the problem. Dr. Averbeck was extremely thorough and kind while handling my dog. He said any test would most likely show that she needed anti-inflammatory medication and simply prescribed us one. My dog is doing so much better already, and what I was certain would be a $300 bill was only $80. read more

I've taken my dog here for several years. Easy to make an appointment (even for same day). Staff is friendly, Dr Keller is thorough and takes time answering my questions. The office is conveniently located and has free parking, although lobby is a bit smelly. I appreciate that the staff is informative about treatment options, and has never been pushy. I visit once a year and get shots, bloodwork, year supply of heartworm/flea meds for my dog. It always seems expensive but not significantly different than other vets we have visited in the past. Office staff did a great job informing me about a rebate for the meds I purchased. Would happily recommend this vet office to others. read more

We are new to the area and one week after being here my allergy-prone boxer managed to give himself a hematoma on his ear! I bring my cat Veuve to see the OSAH for general and acute care. She sees specifically Averbeck, who is very very kind, patient, educated, determined, and general ray of calming energy to animals in my opinion. My cat chronically vomits and he has been amazing with following up with her care and keeping me up to date with the best ways to treat my fur baby. I trust him genuinely with my cat. The fact that my pup walks into this vet with her tail wagging should be proof enough that this place is great! OSAH has five vets on staff, our dog Olivia has only seen Dr. Bends or Dr. Keller. Both were great with her and stuck around long enough to ask if I had any questions. They do a great job of helping Olivia forget she's getting shots by distracting her with treats. Also they will always trim her claws free of charge... a chore I hate doing myself! Despite the very plain and sterile waiting room and exam rooms, this animal hospital is my go-to for all my 4-leggers needs. read more

This is place is God awful! The doctor gave our dog antibiotics medicine for a month, even though he tested negative for everything. Being new owners we had no clue that antibiotics destroy the stomach. His stomach is now completely destroyed and now will take months to correct! This doctor took advantage of us for our money. We just had our first vet visit and it went very smoothly. Our 10 week puppy needed some vaccines and the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Everyone seemed to care about our little girl. Dr. Averbeck was extremely helpful in talking over our options for treatment and not rush our visits like other vets I have been to in the past. Dr. Hearst is rude and disrespectful. He told me that he was having a hard time "getting all the knowledge in his head into my little head". He took my cat and performed tests and ran an IV to administer fluids without even getting my permission or telling me what was happening and when confronted about that after the fact he said I could have spent time talking to you or I could have just done it. He was not listening to what I was saying about my cat and not 30 minutes prior had asked me what was important to know because he hadn't the chart prior to seeing my pet. He ignored what I was telling him and focused solely on the fact that the cat was diabetic. He talked down to me and tried to make me feel stupid. I am not pleased. read more

This is not my normal vet but I had to take a cat here for emergency services. It was a feral cat that some neighbors and I had been feeding but was not owned by anyone. His name is Ninja! He was attacked by another animal and was severely injured. I called and asked if I could bring him in and they said "of course!" They treated him very kindly and kept me well-informed as to how his recovery was going. He stayed overnight and they did not charge me much for this. I have 3 cats of my own and live in a small apartment so this was not a good place for a cat to recuperate from surgery (my cats aren't the nicest to unknown cats). I picked him up the next day and took him to my mother's to recover. The staff at Oakley Square Animal Hospital called to check on him and were always available and friendly when we had questions. I was slightly surprised as to how much my total bill was but it could have been worse. I was hoping that they would maybe cut me a break because I was trying to be a good samaritan and save the life of a feral cat. I am a poor graduate student after all and this bill was quite the financial hit. However, they are running a business and his health was totally worth the bill. To end on a happy note, Ninja is in a forever home now and enjoying life :) read more

We have been going to Oakley Square Animal Hospital for years, our two cats and dog are patients of Dr. Bends. We initially were clients at a different vet, but changed when our male cat had problems recovering from wounds he had endured and the doctors were not listening to our concerns nor some of the ideas we had for treatment. My mother recommended Oakley Square Animal Hospital to us initially as a cheaper way to get vaccines since they offer vaccine clinics on Thursdays so you don't have to pay the hefty office visit fee, we were so impressed with the staff that we decided to leave our previous vet and come on there permanently. The vets at Oakley Square Animal Hospital, especially Dr. Bends listened to our concerns and respected our thoughts on treatment recommendations and our cat's wounds were finally able to heal properly. Dr. Bends continues to actively communicate with us and involve us in the care for our pets, thoroughly discussing all treatment options with us and truly showing us that she cares for the four-legged members of our family. While the price does always seems high to me, I know they are receiving the best care possible and the financial convenience of the vaccine clinics is a great bonus and an excellent service they offer. I definitely recommend them to anyone, particularly those who live near the Oakley area. read more

Any vet that requires vaccinations for a same day dental procedure on an elderly and unhealthy animal is NOT ok in my book.

This is my favorite vet. My dog has anxiety and they have no problem catering to that. Instead of having to use a muzzle on him, they perform most procedures in the room so that I can stay with him (so he stays calm and doesn't need a muzzle). I have really appreciated this. Besides that, front desk staff, techs and the vets are very friendly and knowledgeable. read more

They provided fantastic care to our 8 year old domestic shorthair and our 3 year old border collie for the two years that we lived in town.
