First time we waited 5 hours before being seen. Had to go back a day later as there was no improvement and waited 11+ hours. They took my cat back after about 2 hours for triage and the only update I got was from the very nice tech who came out and said his temp was low so she put him on a warming mat. I didn't see my cat again until after they were done with blood work and X-rays and he was ready to be discharged about 8 hours or so later. We were given one diagnosis the first time and a more dire one the second time. Plus the pain med they gave him the first visit that was to last 3 to 5 days made him so restless and vocal I was beside myself with worry - the poor thing was out of his mind. Very disappointed in the care and lack of updates while you're sitting there for hours wondering where your poor pet is and what's happening. read more

I went here because my veterinarian was closed and my dog was in excruciating pain. I didn't know what was wrong with him. I get there and my dog is a blue Staffordshire Bull terrier. He has allergies so his paws are red. I know this isn't the problem. Mesvet thought so, and didn't treat my dog as of this was an emergency!!! I was there seven hours and wasn't seen. Came back the next morning and was there about five hours before my dog was seen because once again he wasn't an emergency. I was seen and they misdiagnosed him. Lucky while I was there my veterinarian called to bring my dog in. They charged me a crazy amount then on top of that also charged me an extra fee for administering a pain med. So I told them I'll pay and no I didn't want the medicine because I'm taking him to my regular veterinarian. Long story short my dog has a neurological problem, and for his surgery it's way out of my price range so I have to decide now to probably neutralize my dog since I don't want to see him suffer like he has for the last month. read more

Since I'm diabetic I was starting to feel bad. My dog was alerting me. We finally left, having never seen a vet. I was fortunate to get an appointment with our regular vet the next day. The doctor who "took care of me" (quotes NOT accidental) was brusque and insensitive. I brought my cat in in a moment of obvious distress, very late at night. I had scheduled a peaceful in-home euthanasia for the next morning because he was finally losing his long fight with cancer, and I wanted him to pass gently. I asked the doctor to please help him so that we could say goodbye, and he said glibly, "Of course! I'm not exactly in the business of punting cats!" Awful. Then, after they had prepped Linus and brought him back into the room for me to say goodbye (admittedly, the doctor had given me plenty of time to hold him before they administered the sedative), the doctor gave the sedative and then IMMEDIATELY administered the other shot to stop his heart without giving the sedative any time to work. My cat struggled and yowled in pain as the second shot was going in. I cannot believe that the procedure was supposed to go that way. I was so disappointed because my cat's oncologist had been WONDERFUL. I was absolutely horrified. It is unfathomable to me that someone who presumably loves animals could have behaved that way. After Linus passed away, the vet tech told me, "Just let me know when you're ready, and I'll grab him" as I was sobbing over my cat's corpse. I am telling EVERYONE I know NEVER to use this hospital. Our experience with Dr. Debra Sloan was beyond unacceptable. She was unprofessional, dismissive, and clearly lacks both compassion and competence. Every other horror story you read about this place? Believe it. I wholeheartedly recommend Animal Clinic Northview instead, just 15 minutes away, where your pet will actually receive proper care. We arrived at 5 PM, worried that our dog may have a throat obstruction. She had gagged a few times, her bark sounded hoarse, but she wasn't coughing or in distress. After a pointless phone intake, we were told to wait in our car because they automatically assumed kennel cough. I repeatedly explained she wasn't coughing, but they ignored me. A tech took a half-hearted glance at her for less than 30 seconds before determining she was "stable," meaning we had to wait. We sat in our car for over FOUR HOURS. Each time we asked for an update, we were told she was the "next stable animal" in line. Our dog gets anxious in cars, and forcing her to wait that long was cruel. Finally, at 10 PM, we were led to an isolation room where Dr. Sloan entered, decked out head-to-toe in hazmat gear like my dog was carrying the plague. My dog, naturally terrified, growled in fear. Instead of showing an ounce of understanding, Sloan snidely remarked, "She doesn't seem very friendly to me." We muzzled our dog, who calmed down almost immediately. At this point, any competent vet would have reassessed the situation. Not Sloan. She barely examined her, only taking her temperature and checking her heart rate. No checking her throat. No looking at her gums. No follow-up questions. Nothing. Then she confidently declared it was "probably kennel cough" with no evidence to back it up. When I questioned her on this, she was dismissive and uninterested. She suggested either taking her home with unnecessary medication or paying an obscene amount for an x-ray that required sedation. She couldn't care less about actually finding out what was wrong. After declining the ridiculous x-ray, we were left in the room for another 45 minutes. Staff had no concern for us or our dog. When I finally called the front desk to ask what was taking so long, the receptionist was combative, defensive, and ultimately hung up on me. That's right. HUNG UP ON ME. After six and a half hours, we walked out, defeated and disgusted. The next day, my aunt, who is an experienced veterinarian, took one look at our dog and immediately ruled out kennel cough. We would have brought her to my aunt the moment we noticed her symptoms, but unfortunately, she was out of town at the time. No coughing, no runny nose, no lethargy. She pointed out the likely cause--a simple throat irritation from something she may have swallowed. That's a basic assessment Dr. Sloan didn't even attempt. The negligence, arrogance, and sheer incompetence displayed at MedVet Cleveland are dangerous. It's terrifying to think how many pets have suffered worse outcomes because of their ineptitude. For the sake of your pet's life, do not step foot in this place. Drive the extra 15 minutes to Animal Clinic Northview where you'll actually be met with compassion and competence. I brought my dog in for an infected hot spot, and had to wait 2 HOURS before we could be seen. The waiting area is poorly designed, with no way to keep any distance between one's ill companion animal and others. I finally got to see a vet, and he was very rushed and didn't want to repeat either his rushed diagnosis or the instructions for home care. He also didn't try to relate to my dog at all. Friendly but indifferent and slow. Seems like a good place if they deem your pet "Critical" or "crisis". However if they deem your pet "stable" I recommend leaving. While staff was kind and pleasant, they seemed indifferent to any pet that was not deemed critical. After 5 hours of waiting my pet was "Next" on the stable list. After 3 more hours, I spoke to staff about wait and the staff commented "You can go somewhere else but I don't recommend it. Heck you have already been here for 7 hours you are in this this for the long haul right?" I then proceeded to wait another 4 hours. Once with the vet, he then gave an explanation of possible options but seemed pretty indifferent. The shocking part was he didn't explain any plan or course of action. He seemed like his mind was somewhere else. I had to ask him "So what do we do next?" "Ok so what if that doesn't work then what?" I was pretty disappointed by the indifference after a 12 hour wait. He gave us 5 days worth of meds and a 500 dollar bill. I would never bring a pet here unless they were in critical condition. read more

My wife has spent from 7:30 to 3 pm there and waiting for the results on our puppy. $1,100 dollars later they do not know what is wrong and wanted to keep her overnight with an ultrasound and more tests tomorrow. 1st, waiting for 8 hrs to find out what is going on is unacceptable. The money is not an issue but the fact the in that time frame they could night diagnose anything and want her to come back another day is beyond acceptable. I am pay your to do your job. Not wait in a car only to be told they would need to run more tests because they don't know. It is unacceptable to be on the hook for 8 hrs with limited to no response and provided with zero information and only a guess to what the issue is. Unfortunately we had to bring our dog in for a end of life situation. They are the only vet in the area open 24 hours. It was just a little past midnight and we made the choice to go. We were met with very kind staff from the very beginning. The vet tech triaged us in the lobby, took our dog in the the back to get her comfortable. The receptionist checked us in. They have a great computer system that shows what have been done and how long each step has taken. The wait can take time but it is an ER. They take situations by priority, we were critical because our dog was likely going to continue to decline rapidly. Our wait wasn't terrible. The doctor was so kind and gentle. She agreed the best thing was to let our baby go and that there was no way to help her long term and only give her some time. We think she possibly even had stroke so that wasn't really an option for us. Her gentle nature was so appreciated and she took everything step by step. They are pricey, I don't go there if you are in a tight spot for sure! It was about double then my regular vet. The most expensive part was the private cremation (which is on the company they use) and I can say the turn around is super fast. They hand deliver the remains to you (they require you to be home) and it saves you the toture of having to pick up the box. As I am writing this we are waiting for the delivery today. We put her down around 2am yesterday. So the turn around time is so fast. Like I said if you don't have the money I don't know if they don't have payment plans or something. This was my moms dog and she luckily could afford the payment. I on the other hand would have been using my credit card lol. If ever in a pinch though they are truly some of the kindest people I have encountered at a vets office from top to bottom. The one with dyed hair was really understanding and respectful i believe he'd name is Jordan but the older women with brown hair was extremely disrespectful! Unfortunately for us our 4th visit in 14months because my dog, aka Houdini finds ways to eat things he shouldn't. Always treated with such compassion even though I feel like the worst dog owner because I can't seem to keep Houdini safe. While there watched as two critical dogs came in, one having a seizure, it was so hard to watch, but the staff sprang into action. They are incredible. When we were discharged, the receptionist asked if I was okay to drive since I had had a long night. I can not say enough about the people here, from the receptionist to techs to the vet. Unfortunately yesterday I had to put my furbaby down. My daughter drove me over so I could cuddle with my cat for the trip over. The receptionist was very nice and got us checked in and into a room with him shortly after arriving. A vet tech came in and spoke very gently to us about what would be taking place and told us to just pick up the phone in the room when we were ready to start the process. The room we were in I believe was a doggy room. It had a couple of couches and a small table. We called the tech and told him we were ready to have the procedure started. He came in and gently whisked my cat away and answered any questions we might have. He said he would be back with him shortly so we could spend more time with him. While we were waiting another lady came in to take the payment and let the tech know he could bring my kitty back to us. It's a little on the pricey side but I opted to get him cremated and his remains returned to me. To me it was well worth it. Harley was brought back to the room and we stayed with him for about an hour before I decided it was time for his suffering to be over. The vet came in and explained what she would be doing very calmly and asked if I was ready. I was so glad I was able to hold him and not have him in some scary sterile place. I held him for a bit then passed him to my daughter. We stayed with him a little longer then told them they could come take him away. Everyone we encountered were very nice and didn't rush us in anyway. I certainly hope to not have to do this again anytime soon. But I would come here again. read more

Words can not explain how livid I am at this vet. Our puppy got injured and his paw was fractured, and it was limp, he couldn't move it. So we went to MedVet because it was close by driving distance. We arrived there today at around 3:45 PM and we waited for almost 7 hours. If we had known that this place was apparently understaffed, we wouldn't have went. They charged almost $700 for X-Rays, and then we waited more. Around 8 PM is when they finally got us in. Only to tell us that surgery to fix our puppy's fractured paw would $4000-$6000. Is this a joke? All that for a fractured paw of a tiny chihuahua? They said there was another option, putting a cast, and they said they'll come back with the estimated price of it, they took too long, so we had to leave because it was about to be 10 PM. I am utterly in disbelief at this. We been told they were understaffed. Again, if we had known that in the beginning, we could have left and found another emergency vet. They should have announced to everyone in the waiting room that they had less staff so waiting times would be longer. I been told that people had waited there since 10 AM! At some point of us waiting, the waiting room was empty, only us, our dog, and the people at the front desk, so we thought our turn would be next, but it never came. From what I can gather, this vet is only useful for putting animals down when they're at their last life. Or to cremate them. We took our last dog who unfortunately passed away earlier this year to Medvet to get cremated, that's the only thing this place is good for. The prices are beyond ridiculous! Otherwise, DON'T COME TO THIS VET. Unless you have a ton of money to spare and have some good patience to wait almost 8 hours. What a joke. We're never coming here again and no amount of convincing will make me think otherwise. read more

My experience last summer is reminiscent of the majority of the reviews on this website. I often wondered whether I was the only one dissatisfied. Bottom line is this organization is a business not a profession. To think people are stuck with this place during their moments of distress and grief. The buildings are elaborate and oversized for the number of patients they are capable of handling at a given time. (evidenced by the number of hours people wait) Pet medical insurance companies are struggling financially with at least one shut down by now. On Sunday April 27, we took our dog Bailey on a recommendation from my sister as she was listless, vomiting and very lethargic. We called before and were told its not a long wait at all. We realize being an emergency vet, that can change within minutes. We came in around 5:30pm and after she was triaged, we continued to sit. Around 6:30 maybe later a homeless person, definitely mentally ill came in looking for a ride. The 2 women working the front desk, told him to go over and have a cup of coffee. She told me, "he is looking for a ride" No reason to worry I asked them if they were calling the police? They replied they knew him and were not worried. We were and after very unprofessional communication from them she called the police, and they escorted him out. 3 more hours went by and Baily was quickly declining. Still no sign of being seen. Shortly after 10 she became listless and non-responsive. Of course we started screaming, we need help and both of them said "we are doing the best we can" It was very chaotic and finally someone came out very nonchalantly and escorted us back. Following her, one of the women at the desk jumped up and told me I could not go with her, I would have to wait. Once Baily got back there, it was discovered she did not have a blood pressure which should have been caught at the triage, it was not. The Dr treating her and staff in the back were amazing, the front desk team was extremely unprofessional, talking about us, pointing to us etc. Now, an Emergency Clinic is just that. How you are treated while waiting is key to keep one at ease, they were absolutely awful, sarcastic and demeaning to my family and myself. We were lucky she did not die, we came in around 5:30 and left at 2am without her, she was kept. Then came the payment upfront. Really?? I understand people leave their pets because they cannot afford the god-awful outrageous fees, however immediately? So unprofessional This was such a painful experience until our dog got to the back, however the sitting for hours with a dying dog was unacceptable and the staff at the front should be fired. The team at MedVet Cleveland is doing amazing work! It's an unfortunate situation if you have to go there, because that means that one of your animals is suffering. However, once you are there, they take incredible care of your fur baby. Our rescue cat olive had to have a leg amputated, because she had cancer in her foot. Dr. McBrien did an incredible job of getting us ready for the surgery, and then helping guide us through her recovery process. She is a happy, healthy a little tripod now and all thanks to Dr McBrien and his team!! Our St. Bernard scout needed to have knee replacement surgery and Dr. Callard was a pro! He spent the time helping us decide what to do, laid out all the options, answered all of our questions, and gave us full confidence that we were making the right choice. She had TPLO surgery in January and has been healing and recovering well. Dr. Callard and his team have given her a new lease on life, in addition to a new knee! Words cannot express how grateful we are for Med Vet Cleveland. We had brought our male cat in for having scary symptoms of a UTI/ block, which he ended up having. The entire staff are truly earth angels from the receptionist (Aislinn especially, she is a gem), vet techs & the vets. The second we said what symptoms our cat was having the receptionist immediately called to the back & they took him right in as it's a very timely issue, that alone meant the world to me. I have never experienced such care & speed from a vet in my life, it shows how much they care about the animals. They truly have been treating him like their own & saved his life. He was hospitalized for a few days & they constantly called with updates for us, as well as let us call them whenever to check in & never made us feel bad about it. I couldn't reccomend this place more. It was so nice knowing my baby was in good hands with such a great staff, as being away from him wasn't easy, but the peace of mind knowing he was so safe made it much easier.
