My dog needed bladder stone surgery removal. I was informed that is was going to be around $5,000.00 dollars. OK. Well this is our fur baby and we paid it. 2 months later he needed a lipoma removal from under his arm which was causing lameness. OK. How much was this going to cost? I was told another $4,000.00 We paid it. I asked if there was any way to cut down on the cost because I am on medicare/SS and we just had to pay $5,000.00 for a surgery 2 months prior. I was told NO, our prices are set in stone from Columbus. ??????? WHAT? you CANNOT give a discount to someone after they were JUST there for a prior surgery?????? After the second surgery, the lameness was still there and the DOCTOR told me I would need an MRI to determine where to do an injection. ANOTHER 2,500.00. NOPE. My vet, whom I called before his follow up, said to ask for steroids and if the doctor would not give them to me, she would. He DID give them to me but said , and I quote, "This is like throwing sand at the problem". OK . RUDE. After the 3 week regimine, he is walking fine and never had a problem since. RIDICULOUS. Absolutely RUTHLESS!!!! I took my 11 month old cat, he was extremely sick. He was a rescue. He was taken straight back to be seen and I was notified of no balance i would have to pay, just told they would call. 2-3 hours later I was called and told over the phone how much it would coast for him to be treated. At the time I didn't have 1000 to 1500$ so I let them know i would pick him up...they informed me that unless I payed 442.00 I couldn't have my cat back!!! I was devastated. They held my baby hostage till later that night intill I came up with the money. One of the doctors there is one of the most cold hearted people i have ever crossed paths with. If you love you furr baby find any other place. Only if you have very deep pockets will your loved pet be helped. read more

I went home from work at lunch yesterday, Tuesday September 19, 2023 (not 9/20 as my husband mistakenly posted in his review), because Zoe had a seizure again in the morning (3rd in less than 24 hrs - and the meds weren't working). She was so out of it and we had to help her up the stairs and into the car. We got to MedVet around 12:30 and the episode finally ended around 4:00! I'm so pissed about what MedVet put us through. Instead of being a peaceful passage (which is why we chose to euthanize her) it was the most traumatic fiasco we've ever been through! They kept us waiting there over 3 1/2 hrs before they finally listened to us and just gave her the shot, while she was in the throes of another bad seizure. They put us in a room and took Zoe away to sedate her and put a catheter in before they planned to bring her back to us to say goodbye while giving her the injection - we were waiting in a room that entire time before they finally brought her to us. We thought that was weird because we've had others we've had to put down through the years and they left our pet in the room with us the entire time. All they did for those was give her a sedative shot and then a little later the shot to put her to sleep, NO catheter. Before they brought her back to our room they came in to collect the money and told us it was $650!!! My husband had called them previous to taking her there and was quoted $350. He had them repeat it so he was sure. Already traumatized because of having to make that choice and being forced to wait for so long he argued with them about the cost. They finally charged us $435 but even that is highway robbery. They wouldn't listen to us about the procedure and they kept us waiting for the huge amounts of sedative they gave her to take effect. They had given her at least double the amount they normally would. They finally brought her back into our room without installing a catheter, but they still insisted on waiting for the sedatives to take effect before trying to put it in. I told them I'm this close to just taking her back home and putting a bullet in her head myself because the entire episode was traumatic for all of us. I instructed them to JUST GIVE HER THE SHOT AND BE DONE WITH IT! They insisted on waiting a little more and walked out to get the catheter and meds ready to administer. At this point she started her pre-seizure actions. Mike went out to find someone and they all came back in. We tried to tell them but they kept insisting that it's the sedatives and that's what happens sometimes. That's when Zoe really started seizing with the grand mal. They hurriedly put the catheter in her arm, not caring about doing it easily at this time because she was in the throes of the seizure, and quickly administered the lethal injection. The final thing we saw was Zoe being held down as they finally put a shot in her arm while she was seizing. It was the most traumatic heartbreaking thing. We are emotionally spend and physically exhausted. Zoe died in an unnecessary way all because nobody would LISTEN TO US! And this is the image we will now carry in our minds for the rest of our lives. read more

This place has 2 of the best orthopedic surgeons in the area. They do several TPL's...daily. My dog had to have a TPL and a CCL repair along with some kneecap meniscus cleanup. She had a phenomenal recovery. You can go into their website and see the doctors credentials. The fact is they do a ton of these regularly which makes them very good. I liked their behaviors mannerisms and the way they explain things. We are at the eight week point and my dog is doing wonderful and is able to do some running in a 30 minute walk daily is expected. I did take advantage of the physical therapy, laser, treatment, and water therapy, which I think, aided in her recovery. If I had to have any type of orthopedic surgeries, come again in the future, I would definitely go to this facility. read more

Trudy Otter my blue merle puppy was 7 months old on the day of her accident August 22, 2023 Tragically, Trudy sustained an injury so severe, she was in very critical condition but unfortunately, Trudy was quiet and did not appear to be in pain. Trudy suffered a fractured spine. Paralyzed and by end of week her spinal cord was severed beyond repair. My personal experience brought light to the Veterinarian-client interaction, and the skill.... ACTIVE LISTENING The two things I said upon checking in was: #1. Her stomach was tight #2. She is not moving. Easy to look back and see what was missing. In the moment, crazy as it sounds, I thought she ate something and fully anticipated an X-Ray to reveal an object in her digestive system, that would need to be surgically extracted. There was a half-eaten sock as evidence, plus she did throw up that morning. Little did I know, Trudy's back was in pain and she was tensing her stomach muscles. Her muscles were so strong, they held her spine in place. I feel sick to my stomach about the ordeal but bravely choose to talk about it, and hope to enlighten Veterinarian students who are eager to jump to conclusions and hurry -up with a diagnoses. Take a deep breath. Pause. Listen to what the dog owner is saying. Write it down. Better yet, during the 3 hours of my idle time waiting our turn, I could have been writing down a thorough detailed memory of events. a puppy SCREAMING for it's life, is the sound that day as my dogs were running and playing as usual. I could not see a thing. Trees and a building blocked my view of our wooded, fenced in lot. The sound fell silent. How did Trudy walk to the back door of the house? She was quiet, I opened the door. She walked to her crate, oh.... do you want to take a nap? (VERY normal everyday life for a puppy). I opened the crate door, and she went into the crate to take a nap. THAT was the last time she walked. Trudy was quiet. Quiet, alert and looking around. Her front legs held her up. Who could have known the extent of her injury. It was a trauma caused by a 40 lb dog running at speeds of 30 mph (we do FAST CAT- dogs are timed and we know for certain how fast they run) I am guessing somehow my Irish Terrier running at full speed, struck Trudy's back. Don't know how, but piecing together the evidence, I think this makes sense. Either that, or she was hit by a car. (kidding. our fenced in area was secure, no cars could fit between the trees and the forest). Trudy was only 7 months old, but she will be remembered much longer than that. Goodbye Troodles. We miss you. Unfortunately, there is no way to reverse time. Fortunately, and for those of you still reading about Trudy Otter.... there are two people (employees) that called me from personal cell phones, and apologized deeply. We talked calmly, but very sad, and I suggested process improvements that I hope can be implemented and prevent another Trudy tragedy. DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE FOR EMERGENCIES!!! They will not disclose any documents of pricing and demand $1,000 in a public seating area to even consider understanding whats wrong with the pet. The ONLY options they will give you is 1: pay $1,000-8,000 UPFRONT with no payment plan 2: applied for their credit card or $500 for cpr only 3. EUTHANIZE I will write this everywhere I can, these people do not care about the life of your pet and empathy for the situation, they are just checking of a box. I brought my kitten in on Sunday with suspicion of an emergency, they took my cat immediately and then demanded $1,000 ON THE SPOT or my cat is shit out of luck! They said this openly in the waiting room with others listening and dogs barking. The care and service we received was incredible. Our dog had been sick over the weekend and afterwards had gone to our vet twice. After his second vet appointment I knew something was terribly wrong. We took him to MedVet Emergency and they got him in quickly. they informed us of what was going on very quickly. With great sadness we had to put our sweet boy down. The doctor that helped us was Dr Murphy and I've never experienced such compassion and caring. She gave us all the time we needed and helped us through the process, answering all of our question. I brought my kitten in because his eye was literally swelling out of the socket. They took him into the back for "triage", over five hours ago. The wait time for a doctor at this emergency clinic is 10-12 hours because they refuse to staff more than one vet. I've watched 7 patients give up and leave after 4 hours of being told "they were next on the list". If your animal is sick, you're better off watching a YouTube video and performing surgery yourself -- the time spent will be about the same. read more

Very poor communication and awful approach all around. TL;DR: I paid $200 to speak to a seemingly unconcerned doctor and then get lectured about my dog. Might seem like a bold take but this is, quite honestly, a solid description of my experience. I setup an appt with Internal Medicine and was never told they require dogs be taken back without owners for initial exam - you really should DISCLOSE THIS UPFRONT since some dogs do better with their owners present. So, that was a surprise when I got there, and I explained I have a primitive breed rescue who's still decompressing and she'd do better with me there. Nope, it's policy. So I gave the tech some pointers and sent my dog back with her muzzle. Fast-forward the Dr came in and essentially said the issue could be many things and here are the diagnostic options but gave no... tangible direction or recommendation? Very robotic in delivery, seemingly unconcerned (?) and non-communicative about what all of this means for my dog's life moving forward. I felt like I was the one leading the conversation and it was like pulling teeth to get thorough answers. I finally just decided we'd come back after running an additional test with our own vet. He steps out and while I'm waiting for paperwork they AMBUSH ME with a behaviorist who I did not ask to speak to. They are concerned my dog "isn't happy living with so much fear"... literally said those words to my face. All based solely on my dog not doing well during an exam alone... at a new place... with complete strangers touching her. I trust the behaviorist herself had good intentions deep down... But MedVet, THIS IS NOT HOW YOU APPROACH PEOPLE. Work on your delivery. Work on your policies. Work on your communication. Work on your emotional intelligence. I know my dog well - I'm not denying she needs more training and I understand that it matters for vet care... but I'm just shocked at how you chose to handle my visit. HOW did it become so centered on her behavior and NOT her health issues?? I came in scared for my dog's life, looking for MEDICAL ANSWERS. No one like hospitals and this place is no different. Every time we "have" to come here we're waiting almost an hour for service. The check-in ladies are indifferent to you and seem like they could care less you're there. It seems like they're forced to work there and it shows in their lack of enthusiasm. I know this is an animal hospital, but would it kill you to sweep and clean? EVER?!?! There is always gobs of hair all over the floor. One of the waiting rooms we were put in on a past visit actually had what appeared to be months old dried dog feces in the corner! The doctor walks around wearing a stupid paper mask and insists that we as clients wear one as well which makes zero sense knowing what we know in 2022 now; also none of the staff wear one either so I don't know what she's on about. Do they have bathrooms, vending machines, cold & hot water for drinking, and a K-cup machine for you to use? Yes they do. It's nice that they do as you'll be there for a couple of hours and need those things, though! You just can't put out some coffee and then hire a bunch of grumpy old ladies and think your business is going to do well. Every time we go there we're charged what seems to be an insane amount of money for the most routine things! Our dogs have epilepsy and our regular vet sent us here to get spinal taps and extra blood work done on them. As soon as those services were complete -- at the cost of thousands of dollars -- we begged our regular vet to take us back! Thank goodness we were able to transfer our pup's cases back to that vet and not "have" to come here for routine services! If you have an absolute pet emergency it is nice that places like this animal ER exist. If you're the type of person who would go to the ER for a headache and a cold then you're going to love this place. If you're a sane rational person who doesn't like gratuitous wait times and like to keep the money you work for, then you should NOT come here. Does this place serve a purpose? Yes. Would I recommend this place for anything other than an absolute emergency? Absolutely not. read more

HIGH SKY PRICES, FEAR MONGERING, MANIPULATION, OUTDATED MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY, and FALSE AND INVALID DIAGNOSES!!! This is a sorry excuse for a 24hr vet clinic. For some context on my behalf my cat swallowed a string supposedly and the doctor found the end of the string under my cats tongue. They said the only way my cat well live is if I pay $7000 to get experimental emergency surgery! So I could have paid $7000 and gone home without my cat. That was a lot of money for me being a college student with other bills to pay. And they were 0% accommodating or remorseful. I told the doctor I was gonna pick up my cat and take it home and search for other possibilities. To which she replied "you're cats not going to make it if you take it home." With what I was told I made the very hard decision taking my cat home and I got handed a hefty bill of 600+ dollars. To have my cat have a string cut out of its mouth and sit in a cage for hours and for the doctor to take an X-ray that they DIDN'T GIVE US AT CHECK OUT AND I HAD TO ASK FOR IT!! we took our cat home and tried to help him all the best we could until we could find another vet. We eventually found Twinsburg vet Lodge and they were courteous enough to squeeze us in at last minute! They took a look at my cat and said considering he swallowed a string my cat looked pretty healthy considering the current diagnosis. When I was speaking with the surgeon I handed her the x-rays that were given to us by MEDVET on a DVD, which the doctor at the Twinsburg but stated that "x-rays on DVDs are outdated." And she said "foreign body objects are not detectable in x-rays." However MEDVET said they saw the string in the x-ray.... Additionally the supposed string that he swallowed that MEDVET claimed that was in his system was not there AT ALL! To conclude this long and stressful story. As of right now my cat is being helped at the Twinsburg veterinary Lodge and my bill went from $7000 down to $1,300 AND Since the diagnosis was not as severe as MEDVET claimed my bill can still potentially go lower than $1,300. So I just saved a couple thousand dollars while keeping my cat alive and having the privilege to work with an actual medical professional!!! Thanks for nothing MEDVET I sincerely hope your company goes out of business!!!! read more

Do NOT bring your animal here if you value them or your time. You will sit with your sick pet for hours and hours, listening to your animal suffer, without being talked to or updated. Nobody will care at all about your pet or tell you anything, they are too busy. You will be shoved into a room in the back where they can ignore you. I was waiting for over SEVEN HOURS before I took my kitty home to see my normal vet which, by that time, was nearly open again. I hope and pray (when I'm not even religious) he will be okay after receiving NO CARE at Med Vet. This place will not respect you, your animal, or your time. Avoid at all costs. I understand that emergency vets are extremely busy and I understand triaging to put urgent cases first, but this is beyond acceptable. Dr. Jason Callard is the best Vet around, hands down, As a Board Certified Vet Surgeon, he has worked MIRACLES on my dog, and his skill set is better than most plastic surgeons. I would take all of my dogs to Dr. Callard if I could, but because he is a specialist this isn't always possible. Do yourself a favor if you have a dog with serious needs, don't go to OSU, head to Dr. Callard and his incredible surgical team, he's simply one of the best vets in the country. We are so very lucky to have him in Ohio, but if you're not in Ohio, make the trip to see Dr. Callard it will be well worth your pet's life and quality of care! One caveat, it is best to have insurance because the therapies can be expensive, but considering the quality of care and expertise it is to be expected. Dr. Callard is the best out there, and this cutting edge hospital isn't going to be inexpensive. But treat your dog right the first time and it could save more expenses in the long run. Also, Dr. Callard will tell you exactly what's a must do, and what's best practice and give you options as long as it doesn't detract from the best outcome. I would love to post photos of my dog after surgical intervention from a subpar vet (before Dr. Callard), After Dr. Callard fixed and salvaged/saved the skin on the top part of my dog's head, and my dog today. it is truly a miracle! read more

MedVet Akron saved our little dog Tini from paralysis and maybe death when about a year ago she suddenly slipped a disc from IVDD. She was paralyzed and in so much pain but thanks to the whole medical team and especially Dr. Proventure doing quick back surgery on her we have our beloved dog back and she's made a full recovery..she runs, walks, and plays again! They called us and updated frequently. One sweet night tech even FaceTimed with us when we called in for an update which was sooo appreciated! Now that she's better she even has become a big sister to our new human baby! Thank you MedVet for taking care of our dog. I have had animals all my life and never waited this long in a vet. We got here at 4:30 PM (it's now 2:15am) we got told they would be with us shortly. So, we sat down and waited and hours went by (yes emergencies come in we know) but having no communication with the waiting room, and when we asked about how long etc they say "don't know. We have emergencies" but yet nobody has walked into the building within the past 2 hours. There were multiple rooms open, and ready to be used. There was someone who I overheard had the same issue as my animal and got there 4 hours after us but got called back first?! What sense does that make?! Wonderful experience at this animal hospital in April. Our nine-year-old golden retriever needed ACL surgery. We were nervous about his age and the whole process. Dr. Davis did a great job performing the surgery and our dog is now walking so well in only 8 1/2 weeks. The vet techs were awesome, the place was clean, waiting time was short and everything was explained upfront. Yes, surgery is expensive. But with everything it entails, and a wonderful result, I understand paying for quality care. read more

I walked into MedVet Akron with my 5 yr old 9lb cat, Beans, thinking that he swallowed something and he'd be perfect. I've never owned a cat, I know how dumb those loveable dogs can be with what they eat. Apparently, Beans had Feline HCM and was in heart failure. I cannot express enough my gratitude for the staff at MedVet who helped me understand and let go. read more

Everyone is really nice! They took care of our puppy, who's not really a puppy! She's massive and they all were really great with her!

This place is strictly a business and there for the money! My dog had TPLO surgery there, extremely poor surgery, treatment and care which resulted in her suffering for months despite numerous phone calls to them d/t her continuous pain and suffering and was told just to give her the prescribed meds which the pain med was an anticonvulsant and also to give here an anti depressant. Grievously , my dog passed 4 months after having that surgery d/t cancer. I would never ever take any of my pets to Med Vet again!!! There are wonderful , caring surgical Vet Clinics out there such as the one in Yellow Creek, Ohio. read more

I've been here once for an emergency and once for a scheduled visit. The wait time was long for the emergency, but that was explained before I arrived and I was willing to wait. Admittedly, there were a lot more urgent cases that came in during my wait and I was happy those pets and their owners could be taken care of. For my scheduled visit, they were so kind and supportive while delivering devastating news. I hope I don't have to go back, but I'm happy knowing that they are available to me! read more

We took our 10 year old beagle to MedVet after she went into ketoacidosis after not being treated properly by our regular vet. Although our dog ultimately died, I feel that the treatment she received by the MedVet staff was excellent. Lily was there for 3 days and i received regular updates on her condition as well as also being updated on the cost of her treatment. Dr. Brown in particular was compassionate and patient as she answered my questions and explained Lily's prognosis. I would highly recommend MedVet. Every single person, front desk staff, techs and doctors, were helpful and friendly. read more
