Late Sunday night about 9:30, I noticed my Morkie appearing uncomfortable. Not his usual, playful self. I immediately became concerned. Several EMERGENCY vets near me were closing within a few minutes leaving my only option being Stark County Veterinary EMERGENCY in Canton. I called ahead told the lady on the phone my dog's symptoms. She responded with a diagnosis of some sort of leg complication or disease. Ha? Made no sense to me. She asked me if he was UTD on his shots. I said yes and all of my pups were scheduled for their yearly check-up this Tuesday, June 23, 2026. She immediately stated, 'Ok, when you bring him in, it's $120 for the office visit and the Dr. will want to do x-rays and those 'start' at $650 and they'll want to do several.' Ok. I appreciate the honesty and heads-up but how do 'you' know what's going to be required??? I didn't say anything. She spoke again 'We expect payment in full upon the first visit. Cash or credit. We don't accept any payment plans.' I get that. I responded I'll be bringing him in. She said 'ok'. I drove the 50 min to the clinic. I pulled into a parking spot yet curious as to why the spots were numbered. Understand that UNLESS you back your vehicle into a spot you will not see signage on the building. I approach the door. It's locked. Understandable. The sign says to ring the bell. I did. The receptionist answered and said can I help you? I said yes, I just called about my Morkie and he needs medical attention. She says 'Did you call the number on the sign upon your arrival?' I said what number? She told me to back up into the parking lot and to call the number on the building and she would talk to me from my phone and not the intercom....??? So, holding my dog, I did as she asked and no answer. I went back to the intercom and told her there was no answer. She said I had to have dialed an incorrect number. I pushed my phone up against the glass and the number was correct showing it had been ringing for 1 min and 29 sec. She said 'ma'am, you need to get back into your vehicle and call me from there. I did as she said but very shaken as I was worried about my dog and their concern was ONLY I needed to retreat back to my vehicle. So, I did. I called the number again. This person then asked me about my dogs vaccinations. Has he had 2 or 3? Has he been tested for PARVO? I reiterated AGAIN, he is UTD on all his vaccines and provided her with Richardson's Animal Hospital info. This initial back and forth went on for about 15 min. She said since I couldn't provide proof of his shots and PARVO test results, they would send a tech out to my vehicle and perform the bloodwork and after the results if negative, I could bring him in. I'm leaving out a lot of the nonsense back and forth. I think she was rude. It was at the point where I said that I have driven nearly an hour for them to see my distressed pup and greeted with a borage of all these tests and procedures, that may prove unnecessary, BEFORE I walk thru their door, and her response as she scoffed. 'Ma'am, this is protocol and we have people drive for hours to get here and we have declined them service.' After I agreed to the pre-admission testing, I sat there for a few minutes, started my car and left. It was after having a very lengthy time, waiting in my car, I looked at Stark County Veterinary Emergency Google and BBB reviews, I was confident in my decision based on 2 star rating and multiple similar instances. I decided my best bet was to reach out to Dr. Tim (Richardso's Animal Hospital) first thing in the morning. Update: Morkie is back to normal and I sincerely believe that his grooming day prior and anal gland expression was the issue. He was experiencing some discomfort (normal) and was perfectly fine by the time we got home and back to his normal ornery self this morning. I should have calculated the 2 star review rating against the 54 reviews submitted and driven him further to a more reputable clinic. In the end, all is good. read more

THE ABSOLUTE WORST!! If you love your pet do not set foot in this place. They make you sign paperwork that commits payment for services while you're under total distress otherwise your pet won't be treated by every need necessary to try and save its life. Of course a person is going to sign...they are desperately trying to save a loved one's life. The charges are outrageously inflated because they know they have no close competition. Their solution for something they can't figure out or have no answer for is ALWAYS, "it's best we put your pet down." I took my 12 year old dog was having issues with a hind leg and the vet recommended I put her down because, "she is 12 after all." I left immediately and saw my vet the next day. Pain meds and an anti inflammatory were prescribed and she lived a good four more years!! How many other lives have been cut short by negligence and or incompetence? My hope is they have improved dramatically since my experience and my niece's experience with them but I, for one, am not setting foot in that place again-they should be ashamed of themselves taking advantage of people who love their pets and need help. I had to take my kitten to this facility due to her not eating/drinking much and acting lethargic. When you're taking a pet to a place like this it is clearly a stressful situation. I felt like from the moment we walked in the staff was annoyed we were there. Staff were very unfriendly, uncompassionate, and honestly I don't think they did a real good assessment of my kitten. They missed that her eyes had like a cloudy film over them. That was the true issue and it was completely missed (thank goodness I was able to get into her normal vet the next day). Services like bloodwork are unbelievably expensive. You have to call before they let you in, unlike other reviews I've read, I was able to go in with her. I hope I never have to use a facility like this again, but if I do, I will absolutely make the trip north to a different ER if I can. read more

I'm extremely disappointed. I took my Siamese in to be seen and they gave him antibiotics and a shot for his URI. Instead of getting better, he got worse. I called them back and they put money in front of his care. They had the audacity to think I could just come up with $400 towards X-rays when I specifically told them I couldn't afford to get them and that they would rather see my cat die? Well, they got their wish. My precious Punk died yesterday (9/12/2023) and they could have treated him. Instead they recommended me to a place that didn't accept new patients. This is the very worst place you can take your pet. We were separated from our puppy for almost six hours. Not being told what was going on or why. I finally demanded to know. I was told she would need to stay overnight at the tune of $3000. I decided No that I would take her to my vet the next day. The meds they sent home with her made her have bloody stools. I researched and found that it was part of the side effect. I stopped the meds and fed her food that would give her the vit K same as the med. She stopped bleeding in two days. She is doing well. This clinic is not fully staffed and capable of handling emergencies. Tonight my dog was turned away due to lack of cage space. Pet owners are not able to be with their pets because they are an "ER" and owners "just wait in a room while the doctor sees the pet in the back". After calling Med Vet and explaining the same symptoms as were detailed to Stark ER, I was told my pet would be seen immediately to be stabilized (and she was). Additionally, they allow their pet parents to stay with the animal to see the doctor. Drive north. This place is a complete joke. read more

I truly enjoyed bringing my cat here. He had worms and I'm a very overprotective cat mom and didn't realize he had worms until he started puking this morning. They got him right in and right out. It wasn't a huge emergency but it was very nice and the vet assistant was super sweet. The receptionist was nice on the phone but when I saw the "do not enter" sign it was very confusing to me because they said to bring my cat in so I poked my head in to ask how to get my cat in and she was not very nice. Being as I've never been there before it was a little upsetting to be yelled at when I just want my cat to be treated. However, overall it was a good experience and my cat is doing a lot better. I took my dog there at like 8:30pm on thursday, she fell in my pool earlier that day and was puking blood. we took her here and they said she was in trouble and they told us we had to call pet poison because she fell in a pool that was shocked a couple days before, pet poison said she was fine because it was 24 hours before it happened and it cost $85 just to call. they showed us a different dogs x rays and the lady was not nice about it. they told me my dog had to stay overnight or she could die. all they did was x rays blood work put her in an oxygen box and fed her baby food. it was $2,500 for her to stay, nobody has that much to spend on the spot unless you just wanna waste your money. my mom asked the desk if there was any other ways to pay for it and they just gave her attitude the whole time. we ended up finding a way to pay for it so we went home and called throughout the night. very little description on what was happening all they would say was she's doing ok. next day it was almost time to pick her up so we called. the lady said she needed to stay another night and it would be another $2,500. my mom said no and the women wouldn't stop arguing with her about it. we got her later that night around 1 and she was doing perfectly fine there was no need for her to stay another night. i do not recommend all they want is to take your money, without it they won't do anything and they are very disrespectful. read more

They were very thorough and explained everything that needed done to help my sweet girl! My dog Ally has never been taken care of better than she was when we brought her here to be seen! Tried charging us $1000 to keep our dog overnight. When we said no, they talked us down to some $300, then when I went to pay they tried charging us $600. They ended up giving the dog an IV and some other meds that they didn't explain or give in writing to my wife. It was the only place we found that was open and We didn't read any of the reviews. After about 5 hours of waiting, she brought our dog home and we sat and watched him struggle to breathe until he finally passed that night. I feel they should've just gave him an injection when we brought him in, instead of trying to get a bunch of money from us. This was a total ripoff. I brought my dog in for what should have been a simple diagnosis of a UTI. She had blood in her urine and was just in our boarding house as we were on vacation. They ran all kind of tests running up the bill to over $800. I asked for a discount and they said no way. I was very upset to no avail. I would just like to caution pet owners to do all they can TO NEVER have to use these services. They do take "critical" pets first but this is only mentioned on the website and not by any staff. Apparently fecal impaction / lethargy in a pet with megacolon is not a medical emergency ? As I watched 4 pets go in ahead of me after waiting in my car for 2.5 hours. My pet was not even moving. Went home and came back later and was told it wouldnt be too long as only 1 ahead of me. Another 2 hour wait while dogs were being seen. Our much loved 6-year old cat became suddenly ill on Sunday, September 19. We rushed him to Stark County Veterinary Emergency Clinic. They took him right in and the vet informed us of the dire diagnosis. Our cat was in critical condition, diagnosis "Saddle Thrombus". They started fluids, pain meds, oxygen, etc. The vet discussed the condition with us so we knew what we were facing. We then had to make a decision and decided to hospitalize him and hope for the best. Sadly, our boy died later that night. I will always be grateful to Stark County Emergency Clinic and the doctor for being there for us that terrible day and showing care and concern. I am comforted by the thought that our cat was in good hands and did not die in pain. read more

I wouldn't even rate them a 1 star vet. I recently had to take my cat into the ER vet. It being 10:30 on a Sunday night we rushed my female cat here being the closest vet that could take her. When she arrived she had a temp of 104.3, with having 2 seizures before getting to the vet. Once we got there she had 2 more seizures & they suggested keeping her overnight after blood work and x-rays came back completely normal. I called 3 times during the next day with the receptionist being extremely disrespectful. They would give you a bare minimum update & be interrupted when trying to ask questions regarding my pet. I was told "we are doing all we can we, treatment is fluid & monitoring" mind you her temp is now at 106 after it originally dropped so really what are you monitoring. Finally at 1:30am on Tuesday morning, a vet finally would talk to me about treatment for my girl. Now about 3:30 Tuesday afternoon they suggest putting my sweet girl down. Unfortunately she was to far gone & it was the best decision for her. Checking over the bill the next day seeing what all was done for her, we realize a charge for $954 for a bottle of clindamycin. They overcharged $954 when it could have given me answer why my girl is now dead. Perfectly healthy cat, good blood work, no leukemia, aids, heart worms. We do believe the seizures made her brain dead but to what caused the fever to begin with, we will never know. $954 that they would have NEVER said a word about. Who approves these charges? My fault for not checking the bill earlier but shame on them. Now my sweet girl is gone & we have absolutely no reason why. If you want to save your pet, please take them elsewhere. I had an emergency with my dog today. I called them on my way to let them know I was coming, they never asked what kind of dog or anything. I get there and check In. A minute later they call me to Inform me that they didn't have a cage big enough for my dog. All they had was cat cages. I'm not sure why they are getting low stars for their services but we put our dog down after 15 years and two months with her and they were incredibly compassionate! The vet himself gave us all the time we needed before the injection. They had her perfectly relaxed before giving it to her. In fact she snored until we said our goodbyes! They told us not to hurry if we wanted to sit with her on the couch a while longer. They were super! We even received a condolence card from them a few days later! This place is a joke. Supposedly, they specialize in emergencies. They're phone was busy for an unreasonable amount of time. I never did get through to them. We brought our beloved cat, who was gasping and dying, there for emergency help. The door was locked and we had to call them. I begged for them to help but they had to get payment information before that was done. When they finally came outside to take him we were told that we couldn't go in with him. He was euthanized. I was with my brother when his dog ran out on the road and was struck by an automobile that sped off. The dog was bleeding from his head, so we immediately rushed him to this clinic. I am taking away one star because, in a panic, I asked Siri for directions and it pulled up the address of the old clinic on Fulton. Not knowing that they had moved since I (luckily) have never had to go before, we drove out of our way to the wrong clinic. Suggestion: Close this listing on ALL online registries. When we finally arrived to the correct clinic, the receptionist asked if we wanted them to administer CPR.....OF COURSE WE DID - why do you think we were there? The vet tech let us know that he did not survive the trauma. She offered a copy of his paw print inked onto a poem. They wrapped him in an insulated blanket that would ensure his fluids did not leak, and then in an additional sheet. She was very kind and very personable. She's the reason I am giving four stars today. Hopefully I never have to return, but in an emergency situation I am glad they are close by. read more

This place saved my cat's life when he had a urinary blockage due to crystals, which can be fatal. The staff were friendly, detailed, and knowledgable throughout the process, from the receptionists to the vet techs to the veterinarian. I had a lot of questions, and every person working there took the time to answer them thoroughly, even though they were very busy. After diagnosing my cat, the veterinarian called me to explain her recommended treatment plan and discuss the charges ($2,377 since he needed to be hospitalized there for 2 days after his procedure). I asked her if there was anything optional in the treatment plan that we could remove to reduce the cost, and she was honest with me about the pros and cons of removing this and that. In the end, I declined one part of his treatment plan, which reduced the total bill by $115. The services were very expensive, but I don't know how the charges compare to other emergency clinics in the area. I like that this place employs people with a lot of experience in veterinary care. The staff I interacted with seemed committed to educating and empowering pet owners. Overall, they helped us get through a harrowing experience with compassion and expertise, and my cat is doing great! read more

I called ahead notifying them we were coming, hoping to get ahead of the visit. Nope! Would not tAke any information. When we arrived we were put in a room and hAd to wait! There was literally no one there so wasn't sure what the hold up was. The tech spent more time asking me questions instead of helping my dog. The actual vet came in and never even touched my dog and said he was going to charge me $950.00 in ex rays and additional blood work???So we had to ask him to touch my dog. So after 20 seconds he is like I don't feel anything. So we just left after being charged $78.00 for nothing and brought my dog to our vet the next day and found she was constipated. read more

I had to take my dog Zoe after she became ill Friday afternoon. Every person I came in contact with were very compassionate and caring. When I called in to check on Zoe's progress they took the time to get me updated information, even when I could tell they're were busy. I was able to relax knowing that she was in there care.
