I can still taste the food of yesteryear from Meemah's at this location and was excited to give this place another try because the food had long since gone down-hill since the original owner left. I think it's been under new ownership for a while. The food was a let down. The cashew chicken was greasy, the fried rice dry and tasteless. There wasn't anything to love. The service was standard fare and I did like getting the old-fashioned duck sauce and wonton noodles (I do wonder if anyone serves spicy mustard anymore?) but I digress. I've been going to Meemahs for lunch and dinner take out for years. Their lunch specials are priced right for what you get- a main rice order and a soup. Food is tasty and usually ready in 10-15 minutes. Dining room seating is also available if you feel like eating in. read more

The place wasn't packed when we went on a Friday evening. It really isn't a charming space for a date night or anything special. Would prefer take out next time (seems like they had more take out orders than dine in anyways). The ladies working the front desk seemed really busy because they were serving out table, taking phone orders, and handling take out. Seemed like they needed more help. Dishes were decent, not the best, but not the worst either. Chinese food is a hit or miss anyways. I would say it was still good and would come for take out next time. Quantity size was decent but not sure how it would compared to take out. The waitress also didn't do a good job serving us. We were two people and she came back with only 1 straw and set of utensils. First time here and it was actually recommended by a sweet old lady I was speaking to on a train ride back from NYC. I bookmarked it and made sure that I would visit since it's not far from where I live and where I usually hang out. Walked in on a Thursday night and while the dining room wasn't busy, there were quite a few people waiting for their takeout orders. Dining room was clean and and well-kept and since it only had a couple of occupied tables, it was quiet. I'd imagine this place gets packed with patrons during lunch considering Metropark is within a half mile and is probably busy Friday nights too. I grabbed a takeout menu and briefly looked it over. I noticed there were no dinner combo specials and decided to double-check with the host and see if there was an incremental charge to make the lunch combo a dinner combo. Host said they do not offer dinner combos and I would have to order a quart of what I wanted. No biggie. Since I haven't had Chinese food in a while, I was craving some chicken and broccoli with white rice (I usually go with the brown but wanted some Jasmine rice), and fried/steamed chicken dumplings, which they had. Man what a great dinner! The chicken and broccoli was cooked perfectly and was still hot by the time I got home. I laid it on top of the steamed rice and enjoyed every bite. I finished the entire quart in one sitting including the steamed chicken dumplings. The chicken and broccoli was TOTALLY worth it but to be honest, I was hoping the dumplings were going to be the bigger versions stuffed with chicken. The majority of the food here is very tasty. Unfortunately, the price point does not justify the portion sizes AT ALL. When asked about it, the staff was extremely rude and acted as if I was inconveniencing them for simply asking if the portion provided was correct and appropriate. One employee walked away laughing it off to a table of customers? I should be the one laughing because I was served a quarter pint quantity of spare ribs in a pint container. Literally half the container was empty and it had a price point of over $11, and it does not come with any sides. The establishment itself is pretty run down, so I don't believe I stepped into a high end restaurant. All in all, decent food but horrible customer service and dishonest portions. read more

It's funny, I went to Meemah for dinner once around...maybe 2014 or 2015 and for some reason I did not find the experience particularly memorable. It was not bad mind you, it was just not a place I found myself dying to go back to. However, after many years, I was driving by (on my way to H-Mart in Edison) and I decided to give it another try, partly in the interests of supporting local businesses during the Covid crisis. Meemah has switched over from a dine-in model to a take-out only model. When you get to the restaurant, they have a small table set up in the doorway with menus and pens to sign receipts. A jug of hand sanitizer also sits on the table. Plastic sheets hang from above, separating you from the folks inside. You never actually set foot inside the restaurant and that is fine by me. In heavy contrast to my previous experience, my most recent Meemah order was *outstanding* in every way. Here is a rundown of what I had: CHICKEN & CORN SOUP I have had many versions of this soup over the years, and they range from "meh" to "fantastic". This version leans heavily into the "fantastic" territory! It has a nice sweet and savory flavor thanks to the combination of the corn and chicken and if you have it fresh, it is nice and thick, giving it an almost congee like texture. SESAME VEGETABLE DUMPLINGS IN HOT SAUCE These vegetable dumplings are similar in shape to shrimp dumplings at Dim Sum, round with beautiful folds that are way beyond my skillset. This order of delicate dumplings come in a bed of a savory, slightly spicy sauce that I would dip almost everything in. The dumplings appear to have a rice based outer layer with a combination of vegetables inside. I would get this dish again any time. BASIL CHICKEN In heavy contrast to other versions of this dish I have had before, the flavor leans less into the basil and more into the dark brown sauce that features in this dish. The result is more earthy and savory than the brightness you would normally get from basil. That said, this dish is very tasty and I would get it again. CHINESE BROCCOLI WITH SALT FISH It is uncommon to find salt fish on any menus in the Asian restaurants in my parts so I was very happy to get this. The dish is actually very light, depending on the salt fish to add the salt hit and a *bit* of the fishy flavor, but not an overwhelming amount. Having grown up with salt fish I would have preferred more of its strong flavor, but I can see how that would be a turn off for a more general audience. Meemah has impressed me enough that I cannot wait for my next visit. Highly recommended! read more

I needed a quick bite to eat and went for the luncheon special: chicken and broccoli with won ton soup. The soup was rather bland with only two won tons. One look at the portion size and it was fairly decent. The rice had bits of pork and onion. My first bite into the chicken and the meat was very spongy. There was ample sauce and the value was decent (under $10 for the meal and an extra egg roll). The eggroll was average at best - a little dry. I'm not sure if the restaurant offers seating as I went during COVID and there was a table set up at the front door with menus. Since I didn't see a person out front, I had to call in my order. I was soooooo excited to eat some delicious dumplings - pork dumplings were great and absolutely loved the sesame wontons!! Beef chow fun was excellent, really enjoyed the thick noodles. My mother treated me to Meemah's last Monday. The place wasn't very busy, we were seated immediately, and given menus. We then waited at least 15 minutes before someone took our order. Once we ordered our food came out reasonably quickly. My pepper steak was well cooked, the vegetables still had some crunch, although it wasn't super flavorful. My mother ordered the wonton soup and spare ribs. She said the wontons were soggy (had no body to them) and the ribs had very little meat on them, they were mostly fat. read more

So many years ago, this Chinese-Malaysian place opens in Edison. The Star Ledger raved about it-yep, I used to read the newspaper every day! I had been to Malaysia twice, the second time on our Honeymoon. Working in Roseland at the time, I began to look for an excuse to be in the area. The excuse finally came in the form of a condolence call three miles away. After my colleague and I paid our respects, we headed on over. And we were completely blown away. Sesame Dumplings in hot sauce, and satay in peanut sauce to start. Salt and Pepper Squid, Crispy Duck, and Golden Ginger Prawns for entrees. We made ourselves known to who we thought was the owner and advised it was some of the best chinese food we had ever had. Since that memorable meal, we have continued to take out and dine in. There are times that I will stop in and just pick up four orders of spicy dumplings to go. We just can't get enough of them. Alas, my favorite squid dish does not travel. I happen to be having a taste for Singapore noodles and type that into Google and this place came up. This was my first time eating here and I got takeout. The Singapore noodles were delicious, fresh, and plentiful. The curry in the noodles was perfectly balanced and the vegetables were cooked exactly to my liking.
