Blah! Had a craving for some good Chinese food and decided to give Meemah another try (had it before but didn't like it) because my wife takes out from there every now and again for herself. I ordered Wonton Soup, Pork Chow Fun, Roast Pork Fried Rice and Shredded Beef with Broccoli for a family take-out dinner. All three dishes were at best "so-so"...usually I keep any leftovers for lunch or something the next day...this time I threw everything away! read more

Why does this place still prevent indoor dining? They don't even have tables outside for customers to sit down after pick up. Indoor dining has been open for months and every other restaurant has sit down but they still block customers from entering. They have plenty of room. They don't seem to have learned how to adapt like everyone else! read more

This is one of those rare Chinese restaurants that isn't a takeout joint. I don't remember if it has all the classics, but it has a fair number of them and they do it in their own way. I'd like to think that they use better ingredients, as I have the sense that takeout places use an oil (probably some type of grease with messed up chenical bonds) that isn't good for you. It's Chinese and Malaysian, so they have things like satay on the menu. I think I saw Pad Thai, too. There are an assortment of noodles in Malaysian style. I was trying not to be too junky, so I just got chicken and broccoli and eggplant with garlic sauce. I also had the sesame dumplings, which were good, but not the most amazing dumplings in the world or anything. The best dumplings I've had were at that place a few blocks up from Penn Station. Anyway I thought the food was good, the price is a little bit more expensive than a takeout place, but it's fine. Good, even, that they aren't selling themselves short or engaging in misguided price-cutting. I didn't notice the staff much, but they seemed nice. A man at the next table was eavesdropping and I was annoyed at him for that. So I don't love the clientele. read more

First you sit down. Then you order. Then you wait thirty minutes for four waters and a plate of Chinese crackers to arrive. Then you wait thirty minutes for three appetizers to arrive. Then twenty minutes more for mediocre entrees. When I left this place, I felt pretty happy to get out of there. Their Thai iced tea tasted like a chocolate milkshake from my local diner. Can't believe I've never written a review of this place. It's one of the rare restaurants that my wife, our son (he's now 21), and I all love. If I could give it 4.5 stars, I would, as we do love the place and have never had a bad meal here. Service is good, but not great, but we don't factor service in to restaurant choice much (unless it's unacceptable, which is rare). Have had several of the apps and they're great. My son and I love the spicy combo shrimp/pork dumplings in sesame sauce and my wife loves the cabbage app that they bring before every meal. The chicken satay is very good, also, as are the spring rolls. For entrees, the three of us tend to mostly get the same go-to dishes: the golden ginger chicken for my wife, the shrimp or chicken pad thai for my son, and the fried kway teow for me. All three are superb and I would get the other two occasionally, except for the fact that I always get a few bites of them. I'm a bit biased. I've been going to Meemahs since I was about 9 or 10. The 'Dragon Lady' knows me. The waiters know me. When I was younger I thought the food was phenomenal. My go to dish is Tofu w. Black Mushrooms. So tasty. But the cooks must have changed a few times because it's no longer as tasty as it used to be. Or maybe I just grew up. read more

I'd rate their food at 3.5 and then their customer service at a 2.5, they weren't very attentive to our needs at all and quite dismissive. We had a party of 10 so we ordered a large variety of dishes, myself ordering their chicken pad thai (not bad, a tad dry for my liking) and their pineapple fried rice was good - I love when they hollow out the pineapple and use the pineapple skin as your dish. One of my guests ordered the Mee Goreng and she said it does not reflect mee goreng at all. Definitely do not recommend their curries. I think you can definitely find better Malaysian food in the area - go to Penang instead. read more

Take-out service is worse than dreadful. Tried picking up my take-out order tonight (Aug. 23). A line of seven people stretching down the sidewalk--and it's not moving an inch. Some people have numbers; others don't. There's one person working the window--and she keeps disappearing into the kitchen. I waited a full half-hour outside before I even got near the window. Finally got my order (which was not filed under a number or a name); food no better than average. Made a vow never to return. Globally, maybe it deserves 3 stars, figuring in the NYC area, more like 4, but as far as this part of NJ goes, it's definitely a 5. Meemah's food is better than any other Chinese restaurant's for at least 20 miles in any direction, both my finicky 10 year old son and my Cantonese inlaws agree. I've been coming here for about a year, had their food maybe 20 times in total and have never been served a bad dish. Sure the quality varies a little, from very good to haunting, but it's never less than very good and the lunch prices are really reasonable. My favorite dishes are the szechuan pork, shrimp in ginger and scallions and won tons in sesame sauce, but order whatever you usually like elsewhere and try it here -- it will be fresher and more tasty. read more

Absolutely the best Chinese food you can ask for. A bit on the pricey side, but the quality alone is fantastic. My only complaint is at times the woman at the front can be very rude. In fact, at one time she got nasty with me over having to pay with credit card because I forgot my cash. Wasn't intentional on my part since i like to pay in case, but wasn't necessary either for her to be ridiculously snippy because I was $.75 short of your $15 minimum charge requirement (which by the way, you should put in your takeout menu.) One of my favourite Malaysian/Chinese infusion places! Its a BYO!! The owner; She is a total sweetheart and her staff is great too. I am a regular here and usually make this place my 3-4 times a month stop. I've tried most things on the menu, but stick to what I like. We always get our food to-go (seriously, my family has been getting take-out from Meemah's for the past decade or so and I can't even remember the last time that we've actually dined INSIDE the restaurant), so I can't really rate the service. The food however, is great! I've been coming here for 18 years, since I moved down from North Jersey. So we got to know the original "stone faced" owner, as some reviewers have posted. She created all the sauces, and used to go in to the restaurant at dawn to make them fresh. She sold the place a couple of years ago, and the new owner has updated the decor, but fortunately, the food is as great as ever. She sold the recipes to the new owners. We have never had a bad dinner there. And the take out plates are even larger than what is served inside. I don't know why some reviewers mention races, as we see all kinds of people eating there. This is my favorite Chinese place. The quality of the food is head and shoulders above all other run of the mill Chinese style restaurants. They do not deliver, but it is worth going in for. They accommodate vegans. The sesame dumplings in spicy peanut sauce is so good my stomach just made room for it as I typed those words. They offer brown rice if you don't like white. The noodle soups are of superior quality. Nothing is overly salty. And I just love when I order orange chicken and I see the orange peels in the sauce I kno it was prepared with real ingredients. Been coming to Mee Mah's for years and they are consistently good. Some of our favorite dishes are the Sesame dumpling appetizer. Shrimp and pork dumplings in a slightly spicy Sesame sauce. The crispy Sesame Prawns are delightful jumbo Prawns in a Sesame sauce. The Wonton and Hot and Sour soups are quite good. We love the Singapore Mei fun which has a curry based sauce. Their Pad Thai is tasty but a bit mild for my taste. Consistently good food and service. No delivery but take-out is available. read more

I live in NYC and only go there occasionally because my father in law lives in Edison, but I gotta say I don't hate their beef with broccoli... The brown sauce is out of this world good, the beef is very tender and the broccoli is cooked just right to give a crunchy texture that is in contrast with the rest of the dish. I don't go there often, but when I go there, I always order their beef with broccoli. However, like most Asian restaurant their service is not so great... I've been going to Meemah's and ordering the same vegetarian dish for over a year because it is close to where I work, and I thought the food was good. However, I won't be going there anymore after this. "The Dragon Lady" as someone else referred to her, seems to think that she can treat people however she wants and it won't affect her business at all. So my story: tonight I called to order my usual, and was asked to hold. I held for about 10 minutes and then finally hung up, sick of waiting. When I called back, I mentioned the long hold time, and I was met with a pointed, "there was a really long order." So I shrugged it off and went ahead and placed my order. She then said "that's it?!? That's really short, the other one took long time because it was long order." I already knew that, so what was her point? Does a short order somehow constitute longer wait times? I wasn't sure what she was getting at. Then she said petulantly, "Well do you want the order or not!!" What the hell? I hung up, and figured I would go into the restaurant in person and place my order maybe to better results. Well, I got there and I told her what my order was again, and she said, "I know, we make it." Then I mentioned that I had been going there for over a year, and I didn't really understand her attitude on the phone, and she said, "yeah you and everybody else's been coming here for long time." Wow. I guess my business is not important to her. She's got so many people willing to put up with her crap. The food is ok, but for this attitude? Not worth it! Chinese places are a dime a dozen and she seems to have a real attitude problem. Then I said I wasn't coming back, and she said "good, fine, I'm glad." Ridiculous. I will never go back to this place and get treated this way. And I'd advise you to do the same. Their food is basically like everyone else's. It should be telling that the customers are predominantly Caucasian, whereas Dragon Palace on Oak Tree Road has mostly Chinese customers. read more

This is a good place for takeout and a quick bite in; its a tiny little place with a few seats. The service here is really quick and efficient; the food comes out quick and the water is refilled often. The portions are decent, I usually bring home leftovers. The lunch specials are really great! I recommend the pan fried noddles and sesame tofu. They have the option to choose brown rice instead of white if you want a healthier alternative. The pad Thai is pretty good here also, it's less oily and less sour compared to other places. It's not my favorite Chinese place in the area but it's pretty good! read more

NEVER COMING BACK to this place again. The food is pretty decent but the incredibly HORRIBLE SERVICE leaves a bad taste in your mouth. If you come an hour before closing they will tell you that they are closing in an hour basically telling you that you need to rush because the staff is already thinking about going home. We got there at 9pm and finished eating our 3 dishes by 9:35pm, they were closing at 10pm. At 9:40p my wife asked for more tea and the waiter said no because the staff wanted to go home. Seriously? This place is hands down the best Chinese restaurant around. The vegetables are always fresh, never overcooked, and you can opt for brown rice. I like that they have a vegetarian Hot & Sour soup with no egg! All of their dishes have a great, unique flavor. And I think their food in general is pretty healthy (not too oily!). I recommend the Chinese Broccoli with fresh Garlic or Sautéed String Beans if you feel like being healthy. If not, the Eggplant with Garlic Sauce is a good fall-back.
