I agreed and he said he didn't have any on him at moment but let's schedule a time to do it. He came back on Wednesday and took about 30 minutes to put two new heavy duty springs on the door. He showed me when he was done and it was nice to see the door go up and stop at each bend and stay still. (You have to have door off of opener to test it) even though I had to pay for trip charge twice that was alright because now I know the door is safe to open if power goes out and won't slam down on someone. I have the style door where the springs are built into the bar which wasn't practical so I had them convert it to the torsion bar with springs mounted on the bar for future convenience. They had everything on the truck except a torsion bar for my door which they went and grabbed in under 45 minutes. Easiest and most friendly company I've ever worked with. They let me sit around and watch them do the entire conversion and they were out of here within 45 minutes. Will recommend to all my friends and family. The woman working the phones was very professional and booked a two hour window for the visit. The tech showed up on time, and was friendly. He took a 30 second look at the motor and said, "it's no good. You need to replace." I figured we were going to have to replace it, so I asked how much the job would be. He said, "you have three choices: okay, good, or very good. Okay is $1100, good is $1300, very good is $1500. The good and very good come with warrantee." He told me the job would take 90 minutes. All of these quotes seemed VERY high to me. Home Advisor says that the average charge for a garage door opener is $218-$511, and you should expect to pay about $65 an hour for labor. So even at a premium, anything over $1000 seemed like I was getting ripped off. That said, I need my garage door to open, so I told the tech I would do the $1300 option. The tech did the work in 90 minutes, as promised. The opener worked well. Then he gave me an invoice for $1600! I told him that he had quoted me $1300, and he told me that was just for the opener, not the labor. I told him that he quoted me $1300 and that's what I would pay. He told me he would call his boss and see what he could do. I heard him tell his boss that the customer was complaining about the cost and what could he do. The boss lowered it to $1450. I paid it, but I was (and am) very upset about what seemed to be a sketchy way of doing business. I looked up the model online, and it was listed on Amazon for less than $200, so it seems like the opener they installed is likely not a premium product.
