It has been about 2 years since Joel came out to do a repair for us. Our garage door is probably about 15-17 years old minimum so it's going to have some problems. Last time Joel added some support "struts" to the door and this time in a completely unrelated repair he replaced the door spring which breaks over time with age. I was lucky to catch Joel between jobs and he came out within 1-2 hours. We have security gates and had good communication with him on text to get him in. He is a super nice man and efficient worker. He finished the repair in about 15-25 minutes. I did not have enough cash on me to pay him the exact amount, so he told me to forget the relatively small difference because we are repeat customers who will call him again as need--that's how a good businessman does business. Hopefully our old door will last a while longer, but if it needs another repair or to be replaced, then we will definitely call Joel. Called and asked to receive an estimate due to my garage door not opening anymore. Employee stated, "Do you want to get it fixed? Or do you just want an estimate?" I replied that I would like an estimate to see how much it would cost before I decided if I can get it fixed. I was told to text him photos of garage door. I texted him the photos and video of the garage motor. He stated it look like I needed a new garage motor. When I questioned him why he never responded back. As it turned out, this was an especially involved case with many complications that required nearly a full disassembly of the existing garage door system and meticulously reinstalled to "reset" the alignment. Not only was Joel a master of garage door assemblies and the many mechanisms that keep them working, he also was very adept at carpentry work as the wood panels that the system was originally affixed to had warped over time and Joel needed to shave off the sections that warped. It's too bad that he wasn't listed when googling yesterday for garage door repair where i evidently called a call center, Precision (888-629-6127) who directed me to "Garage Door Service (949-542-6999). Joel replaced the garage door springs and brackets which were replaced yesterday by Garage Door Service who charged me $4,400 for that plus brackets, labor and tax. "They" told me that i needed a new wall motor and quoted me the lowest price of $2,700 to fix my problem. Thankfully, i wanted at least one other estimate and Joel, an honest self-employed man (my parents were self-employed) came. He was actually more upset than my aunt and i over what they did - wrong parts, outrageous repair bill and wrong "fix" of replacing the motor.
