Bought a ticket for my sister to go back to college in Madison after a visit. No signs posted about where to stand at the shell station. We were there ten minutes early, saw the bus arrive five minutes early and drive around the other side. We saw them do a rolling stop and by the time we got to the other side of this small gas station it was already leaving. We called and tried to get a refund and they said they couldn't do anything if they don't see anyone they don't have to stop. Tried calling again and nothing. We were there early and no where did it say where to stand and that they didn't stop by even fifteen seconds to make it to the doors. It's ridiculous they were so disrespectful on the call and acted like we were idiots and said the bus didn't have to stop if they didn't see anyone. If that's the policy they need to have a clearly marked spot to stand. read more

Cancelled my bus within less than 24 hrs of its scheduled departure. Support also refused to refund the trip for the way back that I scheduled via a round trip. read more

Unprofessional, Irresponsible and Reprehensible. They will leave you stranded without warning. Nice work Megabus You left my young son stranded at a bus stop in Minnesota waiting for a bus to Madison Wisconsin.  No communication on your part that the bus had been cancelled. He spent money on Uber to get to the bus stop. Then, while stranded at the bus stop, he had to wait on the phone line for an hour to get through to you to find out the situation. Then he had to find another service Then he had to UBER to a new bus stop with a more reliable service, incurring a further charge. And he missed his pick up ride on the other end so had to UBER on that end. And he missed the event he was going to (a concert) Total cost to him of your complete lack of professionalism was over $175. And to add insult to injury, you didn't even refund the full amount. You've got ONE JOB as a bus company.....to show up or communicate that you won't be there.  If you can't even do that, you should just close shop. read more

Note: I have had overall patchy service from Megabus and it's definitely trending toward really terrible. The worst customer service experience of my life. I waited over an hour and half with two other people for a bus that didn't show up. When I an another person waiting called customer service, they delayed us on the phone, told us to call back, couldn't tell us where the bus was, and then topped it off by saying the bus arrived ten minutes after its planned departure time. Leaving ten minutes late is fine, but the bus never even showed up. The worst part was that the customer service representatives told us it arrived and did not offer an apology. Absolutely ludicrous. Furthermore, they wouldn't refund me or one of the people with whom I was waiting. I bought a one-way and he bought a round-trip. My only guess is that they had too few people for the bus and decided not to show. From now on, I am going Van Gelder all the way. Even thought it takes a bit longer to get to Chicago from Madison, at least they treat their customers well and arrive on time (more or less) . read more

The only plus about them -- and the only reason they're getting 1 star -- is you can use megabus.com now to order Van Galder tickets and get them on your phone without having to waste paper printing out VG tickets because of their dumb paper ticket policy. read more

Megabus does not deserve one star. This company has zero regard for timeliness or customer service. I have taken megabus several times due to it being the only affordable bus line out of the Madison campus and have yet to have the bus arrive sooner than 10 min late despite their adamance of having passengers arrive 10 min early. On one occasion, in the middle of the winter, I was forced to wait nearly an hour in the cold because they don't have the common decency to arrive on time. The drivers also drive absurdly slow, even for a coach bus, and I often arrive home nearly two hours later than anticipated which is aggravating both for myself and whomever is picking me up from the station. Megabus is lucky enough to be the only bus line I can afford to take out of Madison otherwise I would refuse to give them my money, however, I simply can not justify spending upwards of $50 elsewhere. If you can afford to do so, do NOT take megabus anywhere. EDIT: on my most recent trip the driver was driving in the wrong direction for THIRTY MINUTES. This company is a joke and I don't care if I have to walk home, I will not take megabus ever again. read more

Up until yesterday, I was a Megabus customer, and I put up with the occasional lateness of buses (often up to an hour or more), but they really outdid themselves this time. To start things off, the description of where the bus stop was was extremely poorly worded, including the statement that the stop was I waited with at least 4 other customers for over 4 hours and eventually ended up giving up on any possibility of a bus arriving and went home. Throughout the entire time, people were calling MegaBus to get information on when the bus would arrive. Every time, they provided some vague span of time ("60-90 minutes", "30-45" minutes etc.), which we heard over and over again. To top it off, a bus with the same bus number and route arrived after 3 hours of waiting, which I was about to get on. The bus driver allowed me to get on after barely glancing at my ticket; he didn't have his checklist out to even check off who was getting on the bus. Only after asking where the bus was going did I realize it wasn't even going to my destination. I could have easily gotten on that bus without the driver saying a thing thanks to him neglecting to do his job. Today, the day after, I called MegaBus to get a refund. They told me to wait 4 hours and call back. I called back in 4 hours... they told me to wait two days and call back. And so the waiting continues... Time to find a different bus company. I advise you to bring your business elsewhere as well. read more

I will never use this company again. My boyfriend and I stood in a snowstorm for an hour and a half waiting for the bus that never arrived. They did not inform us in any way about a delay or cancellation. We called customer service and were treated very poorly by multiple people including a supervisor. They continued to just read from a script saying to call back in 10 minutes. This happened about 5 times. They claimed to not be able to have contact with the driver or how to locate them and continued to tell us to wait in the cold. We eventually had to pay to board a bus going to a completely different location which messed up our travel plans. They refused to refund us. Horrible experience!!!! read more

I a (woman alone) at 3:55 am sat in the stop for almost an hour and no bus. The only number for contacting the company customer service said that the company would be available at 6am. The $95 I spent online was non refundable! Not only will I will not be able to get the money I invested I would have to use the credit for future travel with this company! The experience was terrible and I will not be using megabus again. Money was the only reason I chose to take the bus and now I'm out $95 as well. read more

I give this one star because one way, everything was fine. Megabus 67779 on 10/28/18 at 3:20 in Madison Wisconsin in route to Minneapolis. This bus pulled onto Langdon street with its horn blaring. Assumedly because it was late. The bus pulled into a spot where there is room for three buses and was the only bus. We were parked at the very front of the line unaware that Megabus 67779 needed all three spots and the spot we were in. We soon found out as a man got out of the bus and started screaming at us to move the car. We were doing the best we could to move the car as quickly as possible however, I was extremely frazzled due to the driver screaming in my face. Since the driver had an issue with our car being there, he refused to let my daughter on the bus until last. He literally screamed at her until she was in tears. This is very upsetting behavior. Especially when most of your clients are young students. I am not sure how safe this ride really is. We won't do it again. Interesting that there is no "contact us" on the Megabus website. read more

Megabus is horrendous. I got to my stop early, only to receive an email saying the bus would be 90-120 minutes late. Also, they expected me to wait at the stop the entire time in case it came earlier (in 30 degree F weather). Really Megabus? read more

DO NOT TAKE MEGABUS... it's not worth the "cheaper" fare. Terrible customer service (IF you are even able to track down the customer service hotline) and they contract with other bus companies without informing customers. I bought a ticket for a Megabus but it was actually a completely different bus company that was providing the ride... which Megabus failed to mention anywhere on the ticket or email confirmation. It was almost impossible to find their customer service number online to track down where my bus was or what I should be looking for (considering it was NOT a Megabus that was running the route I had purchased my ticket for) and once I finally did track down the phone number, I had to call back three different times because customer service kept telling me I had to call back in "ten minutes" due to their own inability to track down the bus. On top of that, they were rude and accusatory. This was all after I had been waiting for my bus for over an hour and ultimately missed it, forcing me to find alternative transportation to my destination. Because of all this, I missed the bus and they refused to refund me for my ticket. It's simply not worth the confusion, unreliability, and poor customer service. read more

I expected the worst and got even poorer service than that. 3+ hr wait, can't get a hold of customer service ( they give you a 908 # that never picks up) and by far the worst part was that the driver yelled at me for complaining that it was 3 hr wait and threatened to throw my bag off the bus as a result. Wow I now believe all those people that tell you how bad it is! I don't usually mind buses at all (and the bus itself is fine) but megabus clearly has some customer service issues. Should mention they refunded our tickets which was certainly appreciated. read more

Literally the worst customer service I have ever encountered. Hour + long hold times for phone or you have to wait 1 to 2 weeks to get an email response from them. The bus drivers are usually extremely cranky and rude to the riders. Cheap tickets (depending on where you're going and when though you might be able to find cheaper) but definitely not worth it in my opinion. What happened to me over winter break (this is only ONE of the times I have been screwed over by them): Arrived at bus stop that the bus normally picks up at; I had checked my email that morning to see if there were bus stop changes since there was construction in the area and I hadn't received any emails or phone calls since I bought the ticket. Waited and waited at the bus stop with about 5 other people who were also waiting for the bus until it was 15 minutes after the bus was supposed to leave (the bus is usually running pretty late so we didn't think anything of it). Then, all of a sudden we see the bus drive past us - apparently it had been parked 2 blocks down behind a couple of big buildings and was not visible unless you knew where to find it. We ran after the bus trying to wave it down but the bus driver completely ignored us (there is no way he didn't see us since we were like 10 feet away in the middle of the street). LUCKILY one of the girls that was waiting with me was from Madison and was able to drive us all to Minneapolis in her car after we waited on hold with Megabus customer service for 2 hours and then got hung up on. They did offer me a replacement ticket but that trip ended up being cancelled from a storm. Ugh, overall a terrible experience with this company. Also, Megabus was not this bad before Coach USA bought it out; there were way more options for times, better customer service, and overall a better experience. read more

I paid for a ticket from Madison to Minneapolis, and I got nothing for my money. The bus was scheduled to show up at 1:35 AM, and I waited until 2. I decided to give Megabus a chance because it seemed the most convenient option, but this was a bad choice. Worse, I was unable to contact customer service to inquire about the bus or request a reschedule. The customer service line was no longer open when I called, and I was left stranded. This is the worst service I have ever had. read more
