Dr. Meghan Hession is warm and caring and perhaps most unique, she is an expert at both medical and cosmetic dermatology. My primary recommended Dr. Hession as we were seeking out someone who my two teenagers would be comfortable with and who could guide us with a realistic and effective regimen that would be easy for them to follow day/night. My two sons felt comfortable with Dr. Hession immediately and we will be seeing her every 4 to 6 months for a check-in. I was so impressed with Dr. Hession that I have started seeing her too. I fear writing this since the doctors have your personal information. I also have utmost respect for private practice having family in the business. I have NEVER written anything negative towards a doc office. There's a lot of good reviews and some may be legit. I believe this office fits a certain person. 1. When I got there for my appointment they were late taking me in w no apologies.No biggie. I was happy to wait. 2. When I came next I called out of courtesy to say I was going to be late. People...I was late 5 mins due to a family issue. I have the time stamp on my meter. Here's the bad part. Without empathy and with a condescending tone they told me I had to wait an indefinite time. So when they're late...I wait. When I'm late...I also wait l. 3. The doc is very nice but they forgot to prescribe something they said they would. I didn't even want to deal with them so I got it from another doc. 4. The treatment prescribed highly inflamed the skin and I needed help asap. When I called to see if they could see me there was no empathy (as most staff would start with). They weren't willing to fit me in. Ok I get it. That's your business philosophy. Listen there's lots Derms and they're all talented prescribing the same treatments. Why go here if you can get a more personalized service with another office who will treat you just as well or maybe better. I've seen Dr. Hession for many years now for injectable's and I just want to say she is one of the best injectors who really knows what she's doing. Im always happy with the results. She is very caring and warm towards her patients. As long as she is in the Bay Area I will seek her out for my injectable needs! After researching many dermatologists from San Francisco to Redwood City, I'm glad I chose Meghan. Even though she was booked for many weeks out (for a reason), she was well worth the wait. I've had bad eczema on my hands for many years and my current prescription wasn't working at all. She was very patient and answered all of my questions, advised me on changing my soaps, lotions, etc. and dispensed a stronger prescription ointment. I saw Meghan 2 1/2 weeks ago on 10/12/21 and today 10/31/21, my eczema has completely disappeared and subsided. Woohoo!!! I will definitely recommend her to all of my friends. Normally I am not one to write a review about service, positive or negative; But , when it comes to Dr. Meghan Hession, I am so inclined. It's not often you meet a Dr. that is not only knowledgeable, thorough and 100% present when with you, but also, genuinely caring, thoughtful and warm. Dr. Megan Hession is all of this and more. My family of four ( two daughters and my husband) each leave her office feeling as though we have just left a friend that has solved our dermatological issues. I believe the follow story illustrates exactly what it is that I am trying to say. About six months ago, I had an appointment with Dr. Hesson to look at something on my skin. The night before my visit, I noticed something on my husbands back that I found concerning. I asked him to see the DR. to which he quickly responded, "I'm fine, its nothing." I grabbed my phone and discretely got a picture of the area in question. The next day during my appointment with Dr. Hession, I showed her the picture and asked if it looked concerning. She said.."YES, I need to see your husband asap." I replied, "sadly, I don't think he will come in, he's not a fan of Dr. office's." It was then that Dr. Hession said, "well then...let's call him now so that I can speak with him. He needs to be seen asap." Turned out it was Melanoma and needed to be removed. The following week Dr. Hession did the surgery. Had she not cared enough to call my husband and explain he must be seen, I am not sure we would have gotten it out timely. I see the five-star ratings and positive reviews on Dr. Meghan Hession and wonder whether we're talking about the same dermatologist I saw a couple of days before Christmas in 2017. I think about her every time as I look at myself in a mirror and see a half-inch long scar on my cheek as a result of the biopsy she took a year ago. I was waiting for the scar to disappear with time; however, according to other dermatologists, it is not going to happen. She tried to explain my skin condition by using Latin terms and when I asked what it really meant, she repeated the same terms by razing her voice in annoyance, so I actually question her communication skills. I speak several foreign languages, but unfortunately, I'm not fluent in Latin... She didn't only misdiagnose my sunspot by claiming that it was an eczema and giving me a medication for it--which obviously didn't work--but also suggested to take "a few cells" from this sunspot for a biopsy. "A few cells" were taken from the middle of my large quarter-sized sunspot. I wished she would have told me that this scar she left on my face was permanent... I also have been wondering why it was necessary to cut my skin from the center of this sunspot, the most visible place on my face, and not from a less-noticeable location... According to other dermatologists, sunspots are very common and are easy to diagnose correctly: they are benign and performing a biopsy on them is completely unnecessary. Caveat emptor! read more

I went to Dr Hession because my hair stylist saw something on my scalp she didn't like. Nothing there but Dr Hession did a full body exam and removed something suspicious-all good. I have been seeing Dr. Meghan Hession a couple of years. I worked as a lifeguard when I was younger and have spent my career outdoors, have skin damage and a previous skin cancer. I started seeing Dr Hession when she first started working at Allura Skin. She is very knowledgeable and educated on skin cancers and conditions which are the result of sun damage. She is always energetic and takes time to explain what the different suspicious spots on my skin are and when to be concerned. Dr. Hession is not one of those doctors that seems to be in a hurry to leave as I regularly need check ups and she takes the time and documents what she observes to see if there are any changes. Dr. Hession is an amazing dermatologist. She spent a full 30 minutes with me on my consultation, asking all kinds of questions and truly listening to my concerns. I have brown spots on my face from all of the years of sun, and all other estheticians and doctors I went to recommended an IPL facial. She, however, promptly told me this actually would make my skin worse because it's linked to hormones as well, and she and recommended microneedling instead. Being that I'm a newbie to cosmetic under eye fillers, Dr. Hession intuitively picked up on my anxiousness and took time to answer all of the questions I came prepared to ask, as well as the ones I didn't think to ask. The procedure itself was short and painless; the result was a perfectly subtle boost of life under my eyes. (So perfect that I stopped wearing under eye concealer.) Words cannot express how great my experience with Dr. Hession has been! I came to her for both Fraxel laser treatment and color laser treatment to fix a terrible scar on my shoulder in hopes for it to disappear in time for my wedding. I was pretty nervous coming in the first time because I have never done anything like this before. She very quickly calmed my nerves with her confidence and cheerful bedside manner. It is obvious she is extremely smart and knows her stuff. She answered all of the questions I had and assured me that she would make sure that it looked great in time for my wedding. I have been extremely pleased with the results. I can barely tell it's there anymore! I have a couple of bad experiences with dermatologist in the past (including the one that caused the terrible scar in the first place!), so am super happy that I have found someone that I trust. Awesome first time here she was honest and pays attention to your needs! 3 months later my severe acne (which 2 other dermatologists couldn't fix) is clear!!! I cannot believe it, she is great, doesn't oversell and gives you exactly what you need. I cannot tell you how much money I spent at other places on meds, creams etc and my skin was getting worse! When I first came to see her inquiring about laser treatment, she patiently answered all my questions thoroughly and explained what could and should happen afterwards. She was precise, clear and detailed about what type of laser will be most successful for my skin.
