Two months ago, on the recommendation of a dermatologist friend, I made an appointment to see Dr. Clark several weeks later. The day before the appointment, someone from the office called me to ask why I was being seen. That struck me as odd, but I told her the two things I wanted to be seen for. Then she informed me that the doctor only does skin cancer checks in certain time slots, and this was not one of them. She blamed the Sutter Health " call center" for the error. When I explained that I was clear as to why I made the appointment, she told me that he would not do the check I wanted and I'd have to reschedule. Frustrated and already inconvenienced, I rescheduled. I confirmed with the staffer the two reasons I wanted to be seen and that this new time a lot on December 15 would work for that. Yes, it would. Ok. Fast forward to this morning, when I arrived at the office and am brought back to an exam room. The medical assistant asked me why I was in today, I told her, and she said "Oh, the doctor can't do both of those in a single appointment." I said explained that I'd confirmed he would when I made this rescheduled appointment and the assistant went to get, I think, the office manager. About 5 minutes later, the manager came in to tell me the same thing -- that I'd have to make a second appointment too. I reminded her that I asked this question when I spoke to someone in the office, and she said she'd be giving that person "some coaching." I just wanted to do what I was told I could do, and she went and asked Dr. Clark. She returned quickly and said that the doctor was not willing to do both things because they schedule only 10 minutes per appointment and I'd have to make a second appointment to get everything done. So, having been inconvenienced by their mistakes twice and getting not one bit of consideration, I left. I wasted hours of my time scheduling, rescheduling, as well as driving to and from an appointment. I also made sure the doctor who referred me knew how I was treated. I have no reason to believe Dr. Clark is not a skilled clinician. But his office staff's incompetence has kept me from ever finding out. Maybe, if you're an established patient, you'll be treated differently. But if you're going in as a new patient... good luck to you!

On several occasions, I arrived on time for a confirmed appointment only to wait 45 minutes or more before being seen. I understand that healthcare offices can run behind occasionally, but when this becomes a consistent pattern, it shows a lack of respect for patients' time. Many of us take time off work, arrange childcare, and adjust our schedules to make these appointments. The staff may be courteous, but the scheduling process is disorganized and unreliable. If you book an appointment here, be prepared for significant delays and the possibility that your confirmed appointment may not actually be honored as scheduled. I hope management takes a serious look at their scheduling practices because this experience has been disappointing and unnecessarily stressful.
