Meg's is a small family owned business that does a great job all year round . In the Summer the place gets nuts as the crowd surges but the staff does a very good job serving excellent food at very reasonable prices . The Summer help does the best they can before returning to school . Meg is an exceptional leader who is truly focused on customer service. She is also a life long Lavallette resident who deserves support ! Was there yesterday (Sunday). Dark haired Female Sever was very rude! Food was good but was not a good experience with the service.

Here on LDW - Monday. We sit down. Order waters, coffee and our food. She never brings us our drinks. I order the Greek omelette, and when it comes I re-order the drinks. I'm eating my omelette and my friend noticed what she thought was a pepper. I then pick out two pieces of pork from a vegetarian omelette. I have not eaten pork in over 15 years and if I do I become quite sick. I call over the waitress and tell her. She looked at me like 'who cares.' I said I'm allergic to pork and she goes well this is ham. News check. Ham is pork. She took my omelette away after only eating a third of it. I just ate some of my friends food as I was extremely upset. We get the check and my omelette was on there. I literally had to walk outside at this point because of how upset I was. My family has owned and operated a restaurant for 65 years and I have a degree in hospitality management. This is not how you handle the situation at all. When she came back over, my friends asked her if she meant to charge us for the omelette. She was like well she ate half of it. No I ate 1/3 of it. And it had pork in it. Terrible service. I can't believe this place has 4 stars! Worst service I've ever experienced .. our waitress sat and ate breakfast at the counter, meanwhile we waited for our toast that never came! My friend ordered a chocolate milk and she came out with a Nesquik bottle ?! That's not what you expect when you order chocolate milk at a restaurant .. It's really that hard to mix chocolate syrup and fresh milk? The pancakes were so dry we couldn't even eat them - no amount of butter or syrup could save them! Omelets were eh okay - would compare to a cheap diner .. Overall: the waitress looked miserable, service was terrible and food was not good .. So sad that because they are the only breakfast spot in the immediate area they think subpar service and food is okay - will not be coming back! read more

First time to Meg's, and I won't go back. My boyfriend and I were greeting quickly, and sat within 5 minutes of waiting. The host basically threw the menus on the table, and I watched her do exactly that to other guest as well. We were greeted by a server quickly, who we asked for water from. When he came back, we weren't ready, and no one came back for a while. We had to make it extremely obvious that we were ready to order. Finally a lady came by. I ordered an omelet and specifically asked for no toast due to having celiac. My meal came with toast on top of my omelet. Aside from this complication, my meal was average. I absolutely could have made a meal of this quality at home. My boyfriend ordered the "Clean up set". His pancakes were so dry. He's not a very big syrup user, but I've never seen him use so much before! No amount of syrup could have helped him. On top of the low quality- average food, the service was terrible. Our server never once checked on us, asked if we needed anything, etc. After we were done, we waited for the check, and waited, and waited. But no one ever came. We tried to flag down the server but she just walked by. We had to go up to ask for our check, and the lady at the counter seemed annoyed that we bothered her. Pouring rain out Memorial Day weekend and they have a 40 min wait. Completely understandable put our name on the list and waited for about 20 min then decided to go sit in the car since it was packed. 15-20 min later, walked in no hostess to be found, went back to the car and called the hostess to ask how much further we were down on the list and this nasty lady says how about you come in and check excuse me?? I've only come for breakfast but the food is consistently solid. People who are giving it five stars really need to rethink their choice. Meg's is a laid back place, good food (nothing amazing but consistently good). The last couple times I've gone here I got the old faithful (pork role, egg and cheese on a kaiser). The menu has a great selection for both breakfast and lunch and the prices were very fair. I would say that the food was very mediocre. I had breakfast early one morning with my family. Since we were so early, there wasn't a crowd and our food was served promptly. My fruit salad was fresh, and the "Garden State" omelette was delicious. However, I'm taking off a star because my father, who has Celiac's disease, told the waitress he had a gluten intolerance and asked that his food would be allergen-free. I wanted to give it 3 1/2 stars but that's not an option. So, I rounded up. The last time we went here it was wonderful. This time it was just ok. The home fries were way overcooked- not burnt but hard. The omelet was good with a nice variety of veggies. The service was not wonderful at all. I think our waitress said maybe 5 words to us the entire time. I asked what kind of veggies were in the omelet and she just answered with a variety. Ok, I'll let that go because I like all veggies but I was just curious. Someone else brought our food out. Then, within 3 minutes of that the waitress was back- asked if she needed anything and left the check. We were eating outside. So, I guess we were on our own from that point forward? Meg's is always our first stop when we get to the shore. The waitresses are always incredibly nice. The food has been consistently good. You don't have to wait long for food.
