I love coming here for my regular haircuts. Amy and Ashley both listen and have great suggestions for how to make your hair look its best. Last Friday I went in for a trim, and Amy even helped me try out a braid I've been trying to replicate from a Pinterest shot. They're very professional but also fun to be around. It also doesn't hurt that their location is close to one of the best gas stations and neighborhood bars in Albany. Come for a cut, top off your gas and have a mixed drink all in the same trip? The Chinese woman next to Ashly. She did everything wrong to my hair. Worse experience ever in a hair salon. She bleached my hair to blonde and color it golden hair color. When I specifically told her I want to see the sample again to chose a color. Instead she cut my hair partially then disappeared to the back to mixed the color and when she got back. I told her I want to see the sample. She got all piss off and started to talk shit about me to Ashley in a Chinese dialect which unfortunately I didn't understand, and she cut the back of my hair all the way up. Instead of a Bob style. The length in the front is all wrong. Supposed to be layer. Wasted $140 and going to take at least over a year for my hair to grow back to normal. So I can go back to my regular hair stylist to it right from her messed up big time. So no I would not recommend one there period. She does not listen to what the customer one . She cut your hair how she want and when she saw her other client arrived. She rush through. Plus I noticed she kept looking at the clock, instead of focusing on my hair. I only went there thinking of convenience. Turned out to be a disaster and disappointment. read more

I found this place through yellow pages before yelp existed. For as long as I can remember I've come here for all my trims and new styles. It is a no frills place but as the other reviewers say it is the quality that you receive for half the price. I have always gone to Ashley for my style changes. You can do a walk in but it's preferred to make an appointment. When I come with a style in mind I show Ashley and she pretty much recreates the vision. read more

As promised, I went to the salon to have my hair cut. Ashley did exactly as I asked, and the results were great! The pictures I posted show my haircut right after I blowdried my hair. I didn't use a curling iron or anything, just my brush! I'm lazy when it comes to styling my hair so the cut was perfect! Ashley took her time, and spent a lot of time making my haircut even. Ended up here after another salon didn't have an opening. They let me do a walk-in at 2pm on a Saturday! It did take a while to get started - don't expect that formal, big-city prompt service here - it's much more of a relaxed vibe. I requested Amy, since another reviewer said she does a good job with short hair, and they had me pick a look from a hair color catalog. This is the first time I've had short hair since 1st grade, and I love it!! Amy made some comments about what cut would look good with my face and neck situation, and took the time to tell me a bit about how to care for the new 'do. I also got to practice my Mandarin, which made me feel super at-home. As an extra bonus, the other folks here (regulars, I presume - it felt like everyone knew everyone else) were lovely in giving feedback and suggestions. It cost $20 for just a cut, w/o shampooing or anything. TLDR: Great haircuts, cheap, feels like home. None of that fancy polished stuff. read more

I've been going here 3 years & have no interest in going anywhere else. Amy cuts and highlights my long hair for 1/2 what I used to pay ($300) at ritzy salons on 4th Street in Berkeley. And she does the same high caliber work! Amy's really good with color advice & does skillful trimming. Seems like Ashley does nice work as well, from what I've seen. I happened upon this spot yesterday when I was out and about. My hands have been looking terrible and dry lately, so I thought it time to get a manicure. This place is very cute and extremely clean. There were a couple people getting their hair done who seemed like long time regulars. Both women working there were so friendly. Ashley did my nails and did an excellent job. She also chatted me up, but wasn't intrusive at all. Overall, great shop, nice people. I will go back and use my buy 10 get one free card! I was very happy! My hair looks gorgeous (I think ;)). Amy cut and highlighted my hair, and she was very friendly and nice. She paid attention to detail and did not rush through the process. She said she'd have over 20 years of experience, and it really showed. Called in Sat morning and got an appointment for two of us at noon. It was busy but they got my 10 yr old daughter and me sitting next to each other within 5 minutes. (I've been to places where they seat us 2 chairs away from each other and that's not cool.) I rolled with the rotations of whomever was available with the next procedure for my pedicure. My daughter had the same woman with her throughout for her pedi and fingernail shape/polish/design. The experience didn't make me feel exactly relaxed, but all in all the staff were nice, all was fine, we're not picky and our nails look good. For the price, I'll be back. read more

Meilin is a great place to go. I have been going here since it opened. Amy colors, cuts, hilights, and styles hair very well. Amy's very skilled and knows what she's doing. Ashley is also very good. I had an awful experience with Amy. PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON!!! I asked her to do haircut and highlights. She was very rude and aggressive my hair, cutting it with no combing like trimming a tree. She did highlights and as a result I end up having a reddish blond hair. Can you image my frustration??!!! I asked her to put the color I have naturally- brown. She was not patient and treated each customer very awful. After everything she did to me, she asked me to pay $90!!! For what???? Amy has been cutting my hair for years, even before she opened this salon. The location is convenient, parking is never a problem, and my haircuts are exactly what I want. Don't tell Amy, but her price for a haircut is super reasonable. The only downside is, in spite of my complaints, it always grows back. I insist on a warranty of at least three months on my haircut, and she will not comply. Even the superglue infused gel failed to hold it back. Once this little glitch gets worked out I'll figure out a way to give 6 stars out of 5. read more

Yesterday was my first visit and I'll definitely be back. I came in as a walk-in to get my hair trimmed. I wasn't intending on going there, but it was conveniently along the way between errands. The salon is clean and nicely decorated. I was impressed. The walls are painted with warm colors and the recessed lighting give the salon a stylish look. Classical music in the background was relaxing. The woman who cut my hair did a nice job and was very pleasant. Amy is awesome. Every time I go to get my hair trimmed, my hair always comes out the style I want, it's shiny and super soft. In fact, I can't stop stroking my hair for the rest of the day! I love it and I always look forward going to her. I paid $25 for a shampoo, trim and blowdry/styling. I just got back from getting my hair cut and am very happy! I have been looking for a nice middle of the road salon as far as price goes and finally came across Meilin Salon on Yelp and gave it a shot. I didn't want the $10 chop shop but unfortunately can't afford the $65 plus salons. I was able to call and get in on about an hour and a half notice (late afternoon on a Tuesday). I was the only person there which was fine with me. The salon is small and cute, with nice music playing. I was offered tea while I was getting my hair cut which was very nice. I had an excellent shampoo (can't remember his name, but it was awesome) and got a great haircut from Amy. I asked for a few inches to be cut off and longish layers. She made suggestions for some shorter pieces in the front and was able to take my concerns about not having too many pieces falling everywhere when I need to put it up for work into consideration and she found a nice in between. I got a great shampoo, haircut, blowdry, and flat iron for $30 plus I left a tip on top of that of course. Perfect price and great service. I will definitely be going back. read more

What a great hair day! Found this awesome place last minute and it's conveniently located right by my house to boot. Amy does a very meticulous and thoughtful job, she is one of the best hair stylists I have ever been to! I have been to some very nice and high-end salons and have paid a pretty penny only to walk out not feeling very pretty! I came here for a massage by Wei Lin because of a Groupon. I haven't had that many massages in my life but this was by far the best. When he started out I didn't think he was going to use enough pressure. Boy was I wrong. I told him the harder the better, and I feel like I was run over a truck - but in the good way! After an hour I'm like a limp noodle. He found knots in muscles I didn't know I had (the muscle, or the knot) and worked them over like a champ. I wish I'd done this a long time ago.
