I have been shopping here once a month in the last 9 years and this supermarket has everything that we need. I noticed that they have been rearranging items to different aisles which make the costumers more challenging to find any items. Sometimes I walk around and around to find the items that I need and still can't find it. I like the way it was to itemized the food from each country per aisle instead of grouping the similar items from different countries in the same shelves. Customer service is average like other supermarkets in the country. It's getting harder and harder to find employees to help in the stores because you don't see them around. Shopping here on weekdays in the morning is pleasant because during the day or weekend this store is getting very crowded. Overall this is the only Asian supermarket that is more convenient for us to shop and dines. Thank you read more

I love a good Asian grocery store; the smell of seafood and super fragrant herbs. Is it a great combination? No, but you can change nostalgia (lol!) This is great Asian grocery store especially if you are looking for specific items. I come in from specific pinoy condiments and specific vegetables. They have a great pinoy area, but my latest visit really put things into perspective. Mekong Plaza is easily my favorite Asian supermarket destination in Arizona. I especially love their seafood and meat selection - there's always a great variety, and the prices are very reasonable. I shop here almost every week, and one of my favorite features is the live catfish. It's incredibly convenient that they can clean and degut the fish for you on the spot. The meat department generally looks fresh and well-stocked. While some items can occasionally be hit or miss in terms of freshness, I haven't experienced any real issues. Overall, the quality and value keep me coming back. Beyond the grocery store itself, I really enjoy visiting Mekong Plaza. The plaza has so many restaurants and shops, making it a fun place to explore. I'm very thankful Arizona has a place like this - it's truly an enjoyable shopping experience. read more

I go pick out some fish have them cleaned and fried for dinner while i shop. 15 min later delicious dinner and so many fish to choose from to try. Today I ordered 2 Red Tilapia and 1 Bass. .Wow I certainly enjoy the experience of shopping at me called supermarket and even the restaurant called Unphogetable there are 2 things very troubling. 18% mandatory gratuity, which actually amongst a tax, at the restaurant! And the supermarket advertises 10% discount to seniors which actually is only 1%. Make wonder if these 2 things are not essentially illegal. On one hand a gratuity which is actually a tax on the other hand an advertisement which is blatantly wrong. I think my next step should be an inquiry to this tape of Arizona, concerning these practices. read more

This is one of the best Asian supermarkets in the Phoenix area. We really missed Asian supermarkets coming from the Bay Area and SoCal, but are so glad to have found this one. This grocery store might actually be better than all our other grocery stores in SoCal and the Bay Area. Even brought relatives here that were visiting (we needed food for them) and they loved it. They were impressed with the variety of Malaysian food in particular. Also impressive range of Indonesian and Thai food. We had some relatives that had just returned from a months long trip to Asia and they were shocked to find some brands they were used to there featured in this market at such reasonable prices, because they haven't been able to find it at reasonable prices in the Bay Area. There were some brands here that are even difficult to find in Malaysia. Some things are slightly more expensive, but most seem reasonable at least for Malaysian food. The produce is also fresh and they have more variety than Ranch 99, for example, in the area. I still think H Mart across the street has fresher produce, but honestly this is good especially at lower prices. They have quite a diverse group of employees. I had to ask one of them for help in locating specific noodles and they were very helpful. The plaza is also interesting and has some good food shops. read more

This place is in a small Asian Plaza located on SW corner of Dobson and Main St. As it turns out it is located across Dobson from H Mart. In the Plaza it is located on the SW side. There are many Asian restaurants and takeouts including boba and sandwiches. They have quite a selection of all types of Asian food and seafood. There is a lot of parking for the plaza and it is much less crowded than H Mart. It is slightly more expensive in the one thing I was looking for, the S&B sauce (see photo). It is very hard to find in AZ. Sometimes you cannot get parking at H Mart so this is a good nearby substitute. read more

I've bought from this market before a few times when I'm in Mesa. Last year they had free open wifi. Now you'll need a password just to use free wifi which is bad. I was looking for individual Chinese Moon Festival Mooncakes in individual bakery items from the local bakeries. They don't have it even after Moon Festival. They only got the tin set of 4 or more which will cost about $26 to $40+ price range. I still give them 5 stars because not only because they have a food court but all the items I need are here in this market. Very convenient from the Light Rail crossing from H Mart. Really worth it. Have been a customer since day one. Staff have assisted me many times. So have other customers. I enjoy the diversity. The mix and quantity stocked is gigantic. I prefer the simplicity in pricing, checkout, and no clubs or digital gimmicks. I go to shop at, where as places that have sales, promotions and digital deals I buy almost nothing not on sale. Mekong pricing is fair. The market is clean and it never looks like a storm just bleu through. Checkout is simple, cashiers all good and process checkout quickly. Holidays are helped by the market being open. They are always restocking but the isles are wider. It is a big store and yet some staff know me. Very unusual. There are three markets closer to me and two very close to Mekong. Greatly prefer Mekong. It's much more than just being friendlier and àn atmosphere I prefer. read more

Went to Mekong to get salmon bellies.. I usually get them there.. BUT... are they cheating the customers now??? All the packs that were labeled salmon bellies were actually other parts or the salmon.. like part of the meat where the tail area is; a slice of the meat where the head is.. then they sell it for almost $8... I still got it and tried to give the benefit that there may be at least some parts of the belly mixed with it.. but not one portion!!! Then the palm liver spread is selling for almost $10 Wee sells it for $6 I went to H Mart & they had real salmon belly which Is a few dollars cheaper than Mekong selling a mislabeled item or intentionally making money out of cheating their customers!!! read more

Every time I have been here, I have a hard time with the odor that you smell as soon as you get near the entrance. I know it is due to seafood sold here, but it still hits me in the face every time resulting in me shopping for less time as I want to leave the smell. This is a store you can get lost in, which makes it a deadly combo as I don't want to be immersed in the odor. A catch 22 though I do like some of the products I've only found here. Definitely a place to check out if you are looking for imported speciality times from overseas. Years ago was great, not sure how and what changed. The fish counter has had a lot of staff change. I was there yesterday, about 3pm....I ordered fish cooked #6...no salt. It came to me clearly #7 the outside stiff like a chip. with salt and took 40 minutes from order to my hands and they didn't seem that busy. Also and not there doing, the same fish in the past 12-15 months is up in price by close to 70%. The last several visits I keep thinking not going back..I'll try not to. Also they have clearance fruit area..now many items in the 'wrap' are clearly ready to be thrown out...oranges and some other things. They have a great selection, lately their regular fruit is very expensive, I'm guessing it's because imported price affects. All their coconut juices have gotten really spendy. I like fish a lot and not too many places cook it now. read more

This market is right down the street from me - it is definitely my go to when I am craving Bao Buns or Asian inspired dish. They have extensive selection of meats, produce and of course specialty ingredients I cannot find at the standard grocery store. I have found their produce to be extensive, fresh and cheaper than many of the other local stores. That also follows suit with their meat market. It is a great option for fresh seafood and they offer options from bone in, bone out, descaled and everything in between. We have also taken advantage of their dishware suggestion with endless options and specialty dishware, it is very fun to peruse. As to be expected, the smell is overwhelming, but that obviously contributes to their large fresh fish market, but just something to be aware of. The aisles are also endless, so prepare to explore a bit or take some time orienting yourself with the lay out. Lastly, service is great. Cashiers are always super friendly. Love Mekong market. It's the only place I can find decent fresh ginger or basil. All of the fresh produce is good quality, you won't be able to find Japanese sweet potato or Chinese broccoli anywhere else. & the family loves to get guavas (when I'm willing to spend a little extra on something different). The entire mall is worth a visit my daughter loves to come here and buy trinkets or candy she has never tried before. Mekong supermarket has a lot of items for sale. Some I have never seen before and some that I have. They have a lot of different rice products. They have three ladies brown rice for about seven dollars. They have botan calrose rice for about five dollars and fifty cents. They have nishiki premium grade rice for seven dollars just about as well. They have three ladies Jasmine rice for about thirteen dollars. The sizes of the bags vary. When I first enter the store I can detect some odor in the air as I shop and walk through the store. It seems to be evenly scented. It could be spices or fish or meat or a mixture of all. I can't really tell what it is. I think it is a mixture. It might be five spice. Or it could be incense. read more

The service from the cashiers left much to be desired. I put my shopping basket onto the conveyor belt since I had very little items, but the person working there took the basket and shoved it at me without saying anything. I decided to go to another lane, but I had a similarly bad experience. This time, the cashier had put a frozen item with fresh herbs, so I took it out and asked to put it into a separate bag. The cashier then took another plastic bag and threw it at me. The entire exchange at both lanes was rude to say the least, especially when I have seen other customers (who are white) do the same thing I did and receive appropriate service. I don't want to point fingers and accuse them of racism, but it's hard when the evidence is clear in their behavior. I've been going to this market for years, so I am very disappointed. If Yelp allowed me to put zero stars, I would. Don't go to Mekong Supermarket if you want to be treated with respect just like everyone else. read more

This place is poppin'. Went there on a Sunday to pick up some snacks in celebration of APIHM (was making some goodie bags for colleagues). First, love that there is plenty of parking, and surrounding restaurants lend the opportunity to dine before grocery shopping on an empty stomach (a must!). I spent a good amount of time in this market, browsing all of the snacks. Aisles and aisles of snacks, candies, chocolates, soups... and a lot of shoppers helped me along the way. They actually attract a diverse group of shoppers from all races and nationalities, which who doesn't love seeing that?! One day I went to Mekong Market on Dobson and Main in Mesa. When I was about to pay, I left my basket on the cashier's desk but the Mexican cashier told me that you have to take out all the items in the basket before I can charge you (the Mexican lady showed me the sign that said you have to take out all the items in the basket). But when I looked over to the counter next to me, I saw a white American family also left their basket on the counter and the two black American cashiers didn't ask for anything. I felt discriminated against because I was Asian and this market was for Asians. Mexicans and people of color work for the Asian market owner but discriminate against Asian customers (the owner thinks it's because of the inequality of the employees towards the customers?) read more

Quality/Quantity - Good until we discovered H Mart across the street. Atmosphere - Plenty of free parking in the shopping center. Asian grocery department. Meat department. Live seafood. Asian produce. Food court - Binh Duong Quan, Heng's Kitchen, Hue Gourmet, Wholly Grill. Dessert places - AA Ozzy Bakery, Roll Ave Ice Cream, Tea Snow Lounge, Jerky King. Restaurants at the mall: Mekong Restaurant. Happy Bao's. Com Tam Thuan Kieu - Vietnamese. Deer Garden Signature. Mekong Sandwiches. Thai Spices. Unphogettable. Xian Fusing Cafe. Mekong is also working on expanding. They had a huge Lunar New Year event 2 years ago. Food trucks with $5 specials. Additionally, they had raffles, giveaways, a petting zoo, face painting, balloon twisting, bounce houses; all of which were free. Service - Self service for what we needed. Price - Reasonable prices. A large and amazing market with all kinds of Asian food, and a focus on Vietnamese products. The seafood section is huge (more than 100-feet long) with all kinds of seafood: fresh, previously frozen and live. The queue for the seafood section can be long, but with so many staff working it, one gets through in just a few minutes. There are many kinds of rice and noodles, as well as sauces, and specialty items from Korea, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, China etc. So much choice, so many varieties. The produce section is also amazing ... all kinds of Asian vegetables, as well as a reasonable selection of standard American produce. You can find fresh Thai basil, fresh mint, fresh thyme ... and a dizzying array of Chinese cabbage (I had no idea there were so many different varieties). The produce that's popular with the Asian clientele is fresh and turns over frequently. It's a crowded store with all kinds of people, items stacked high, and narrow aisles. I was expecting to love it. So why only 3-stars? Because some of the food was way past its prime, and they continued to sell it. The cherry tomatoes I found were shriveling with fungus and mold growing between tomatoes under the top row. Of the 3-pounds of live Manila clams we got (and steamed 4 hours later), approximately 1/3rd were dead and did not open when cooked. I expect a grocery to remove items that are no longer up to quality standards, to cull rotting produce and fruit, to ensure that live and fresh seafood is just that. But sadly, that wasn't my experience. So a wonderful store, with a quality problem -- and to be clear -- much of the seafood, produce and food was of high quality -- but you need to choose wisely. This is my mom and I go to spot! She loves buying her fish amongst other items here. Place is nice and clean. Sometimes really cold lol but overall a must shop at place. They have all the vegetables I need such as dill or bok choy or any exotic fruits. There is also a nice food court and places to eat around the plaza which is really nice. read more

This is a really cool Asian market. The focus of which is predominantly from Vietnam and Southeast Asia. You can find all sorts of very unique and interesting food and cooking items from all over Southeast Asia and Vietnam here. They have an incredible meat and seafood department. There are wide variety's of fresh meat and seafood products on display. I like to come here to buy their Vietnamese rice noodles and other ingredients for when I cook Bun Thit Nuong Cha Gio. They have such a wide variety and selection of ingredients it is easy to get lost if your not careful. Service can be hard to find sometimes if need help locating products and some products can be expensive or not properly marked. Either way it's not too much of hassle and for the most part a fun and enjoyable experience to come shop here. read more
