This facility may have challenges with advanced and/or technical automobiles as they had my Caddy over a two day period (one full day) to check a turn signal issue. Rather than change the switch box, they removed and replaced the entire operational (steering column) ring and there were still problems. After returning a few days later to correct the continued problem, they referred me to an electrical company to chase down the issues at an added costs... The caddy dealer inspected and informed me that the ring was installed incorrectly and it would cost nearly $300+ to remove and re-install correctly. Why is it so hard to find a honest, trustworthy and competent auto repair facility today? I hope they will step up and make the correct repair. read more

I picked up a large screw of some type in one of my tires. I drove on it for several weeks. When I noticed that the tire was starting to lose some air, I decided it was time to get it fixed. I had never used Melichar 66 before, but since it's right around the corner from my office, I decided to give them a try. Glad I did! I dropped off my car first thing in the morning without an appointment. They called before noon to tell me the tire was fixed and that they had found two other pieces of metal in the tire, but only two of the three were leaking air. They fixed the holes for $20. Super convenient and quick. And they didn't give me the typical laundry list of other problems with the vehicle that were in dire need of repair, like some tire shops in town do. I called yesterday to see if Melichar's could look at the right, front tire on my van. They were booked solid for today, but the guy told me to bring it in anyway...as early as I could...and they'd do their best to work me in. I got there at 7:30a, and they ended up being able to look at it right away. Pulled a screw out, patched it and added air. I think I was there 10 min. tops, and the fee was more than reasonable! Couldn't say enough good things about this station!! read more

We pulled up from highway 80 after 1500 miles as the check engine light came on. The mechanic on duty hooked up his diagnosing computer and told us the problem was an evap leak, which he proceeded to explain. Then he assured us that it was not dangerous and explained how it might have arisen and why it was not a problem. He charged us nothing and sent us on our way. As it turned out, the car behaved beautifully for the next 1500 miles of our cross country journey. As far as we can tell, this is a service center that does not take advantage of desperate travelers, but honestly explains problems without charging any fees. read more

Hats off to this terrific three-generation service station. I met these folks after my engine died on the interstate midway between Colorado and Wisconsin and I had my car towed into Lincoln. Luckily I called my wonderful mechanics at Hansen"s auto back in Wisconsin and they put me in touch with Melichar's. These folks took time out on a busy Friday to help me buy a used car on short notice far from home. After I found a couple possibilities on line they went over to the dealer who was selling the vehicle, test drove it, checked the vin #, brought it back to their shop, checked it over and then DROVE OVER and picked me up from the Subaru dealership that i'd been towed to! Thanks to their generosity and expertise a traveling disaster turned into the easiest used car purchase of my life. I look forward to pulling off the interstate into Lincoln to get gas and visit these terrific people next time I make the trip to visit family in Colorado. They've put the service back in "service station" and reminded me how much difference a family-run business can make in the lives of it's customers! read more
