I get sick before going to the dentist and it's not because I am terrified of what will happen, but rather all the before and after shots on every TV screen and the always flawless teeth of the staff glinting in the midafternoon sun. Dr. Camacho looks a bit like Dave Grohl as the pilot in the Learn to Fly video. I wasn't lucky enough to experience Dr. Camacho, but Mallory the assistant and the dentist who was helping out whose name I didn't catch because I was still in the "oh shit what is this going to cost me phase." I don't like to talk about my teeth, so I'll try and keep it simple. A half finished project on a tooth got pushed aside at various time because like all dental things, money became needed elsewhere. That tooth held strong for a very long time, but thanks to science and particular painful root canal, the tooth became brittle. Once the filling came out (while eating a Butterfinger no less). I should have gotten it repaired but I was always putting it off to tomorrow. When it cracked and shattered, I knew it was time. The assistant and the doc were both awesome, funny, and definitely cared about my comfort. It's hard to be comfortable with a pair of pliers in your mouth, but somehow they managed. The tooth resisted and the doctor only became more determined. Three pieces she said and she called it correctly. It's a bit sore right now, but I look forward to going back and chatting with them about my tooth future. I'm notorious for not being good with teeth, so hopefully they will help me out and not break the bank. Thanks Dr. Camacho and staff. Special thanks to Mallory who kept me from being bored and handles a suction line like a champ. And I think her name was Christina, but whoever booked my appointment deserves thanks too. Not everyday you can get emergency dental with a smile. I'll be back - thanks everyone!

Two other dentists were pessimistic about their ability to fix it with bonding, without substantial removal of tooth structure. As I am blessed with overall healthy and pretty teeth, I resigned myself to just live with it. While it was barely noticeable to others, it was a substantial source of frustrating, near-constant physical discomfort for me. After moving to San Antonio, I wondered if this practice could help me out. Dr. Beckel saw me for what I assumed would be just a preliminary consultation, and he convinced me to let him fix it right then and there! I got the sense he could tell it had really been bugging me a while, and wanted to make it better. I felt his communication was good and his bedside manner really excellent. He gave the problem a lot of thought personalized to my specific case, and was optimistic--but realistic--about his ability to fix it with as microscopically minimal enamel removal as possible. After just a few minutes, I got handed a mirror and was stunned to see a tooth that looked genuinely as good as new. It was actually a bit shocking, in a good way. I am truly amazed by the appearance of this bonding. I feel that not only was the natural look of my teeth fully appreciated, but the complex manner in which light moves through the thin edges of my enamel, creating a range of shades, is continued seamlessly throughout the restoration. I was fully expecting to see some kind of subtle boundary or shading difference there, but it actually looks perfect. This must have taken a high level of skill and a profound understanding of dental aesthetics. Of course, the next test will be to see how it holds up long-term. Overall, I came in with what I understand to be a fairly challenging request. I was met with enthusiasm, consideration, and compassion.

My past dentist was personable and gentle. Dr. Andrus was the complete opposite. He never introduced himself. He spoke at me and acted as if I was not in the room when interacting with his staff. He used harsh language to describe my dental condition which made me extremely anxious in the exam chair. He recommended extensive work and seemed annoyed when I questioned anything he said. The next day, I visited a different dentist to get a fitting for a mouth guard. The doctor did another exam and didn't suggest any of the work Dr. Andrus did which leads me to believe he was trying do drive up the cost with unnecessary dental work. I do not recommend anyone visit Camino Real, and be weary of Dr. Andrus. Relationships with dental practices are hard enough, without the dismissive aggression from a insensitive doctor.

I appreciate her professionalism, have built a rapport with her and that she's not excessively chatty. She's given me tips over the years and I know I'm in good hands when I'm being attended by her. I get disappointed if she isn't available. I had X-rays today and those bite-wing things can be overwhelming in the mouth so I just focused because at one point I almost threw up for some reason when it was towards the back of my mouth but I held it together. Luckily it's only once a year. Everything was straightforward and afterwards, Dr. Ruiz examined my mouth, scraped a little and I asked her about getting a new, thinner Mouthguard that will act like a Retainer. At first she mentioned one product that was for my upper and lower teeth but I told her I didn't have braces on my lower teeth so she thought about it and decided to have me try something else. I ended up ordering an Essix Retainer that's thicker than a regular Invisalign Retainer which is more flimsy so it acts like a Night Guard. I was able to get an iTero mouth/teeth 3D scan at the beginning of my appointment so I was able to skip an appointment and just come for the fitting later this month. The 3D scan is a new and free procedure that tracks changes in your mouth/teeth for future reference. Dr. Ruiz was very nice in our brief visit. My regular dentist is currently on Maternity Leave. As always, I leave with extra sample toothpaste, toothbrush and floss. The office has a Keurig machine, chips tray and bottled water in a small fridge and an Air Purifier out in the waiting room.
