I've been having professional massages for nearly 30 years and I've had some pretty great masseurs. Today's massage with Joshua was amongst the very best I've had. I carry alot of stress from working long hours on a PC and from working out 3-4 hours a week. I booked the 80 minutes massage after my boyfriend recommended Joshua after he had 2 amazing massages with him. I was really impressed as he found my severe spots in my shoulders and back in minutes and then found additional tough spots in my neck. He worked the areas really well, digging in and really releasing the knots. I am so blown away at how good I feel. The additional movement I have now in my neck and back, not to mention that I'm no longer in constant pain in my shoulders. I've been almost giddy at how good I feel. First time, Chris was my masseuse and it went well. I explained I haven't had a massage since 2020 (if at that). He explained his policy and methods and I was happy with that. The deep tissue massage went well, his stretches for my legs really did help my hamstrings. I enjoyed the 60 min massage and signed up for the no contracts membership. I know it's to motivate you to get a massage at least once a month as personal care. I might try other masseuses since I try to make sure I know which is the best fit and the best schedule for me. Some are only there certain days so if you decide on a Massage Therapist, check out their schedule and schedule ahead. I mean the monthly membership is basically an ongoing monthly appointment that you pay for in advance. They are open Sundays which is good for those of us who work all week and can't schedule a massage on a weekday. For now since this is an initial visit, I will reserve it to the 4 star realm. Chris was 5 star but it's when you visit a place more than once when you can make a judgement on how consistent the service is. read more

I have had a membership with Mellow Massage since July 2022. While I will say that most of their therapists have been excellent, I would not recommend the membership. When I first signed up I enjoyed it. I would say if you find one therapist you can keep booking with regularly and you can just schedule your appointments ahead of time it might be much less hassle. When I first started the monthly membership I had a few great therapists who really helped with some injuries I was having. I liked that the company is owned by doctors and they usually would check in after each appointment to see if the appointment was ok. They no longer do this most times. Also if you missed a month appointment but were charged for the massage they would credit you that massage. Sometime last year that feature went away and if you missed that month you pay $100 and get nothing for it, it's on you. Also since then they have gotten rid of the receptionist, the one they previously had in hillcrest was excellent. So your massage therapist now handles the charging and then books your next session. This is fine if you're with someone you've liked but if you don't want to see that therapist again it awkward to ask to see someone else to their face and leaves the therapists wasting time between appointments dealing with payments and appointments. Leaving you to then call their only appointment phone line if you need to change or need additional help. This is the worst part of my experience with mellow. Every time I call I get someone who I can barely understand who doesn't speak English well. This is also the same line used for customer service or complaints now and it isn't anyone who works in either location or has anything to do with the business. It has been terrible every time I've had to communicate with this number and I have to use it frequently to make or change appointments as I cannot book online with any credits I had from the past. The customer service of this business has seriously gone downhill over the last year. In addition, at the hillcrest location the mellow is next to a Pilates studio and above a veterinarian's office. The rooms are not well sound proofed and you can hear Pilates classes instructors yelling or the animals at the vet throughout your appointment. They also offer couples massages but do not have a double room for such at Hillcrest. Overall, this business and its customer service has seriously declined and there are many other places with much better business models in town to go to. Don't join for the membership!! read more

I was staying at Hyatt Manchester San Diogo with my wife from August 22nd to 30th. From Hawaii and I had call Mellow for an appointment. Talk to the male who answered that I do not have an appointment. Told him that I am at the Hyatt and I can be there for an hour massage. He said come in. Took an uber to the location on the 2nd floor in the shopping center. Went to check in. Waited for a while they contacted there call center. I don't know what is going on over there but this place is on a downhill trajectory. A week or so back I got a text message telling me that my regular therapist wouldn't be able to make our next appointment, a new therapist was identified and everything was good, or so I thought. A few days later I see a text that my appointment was canceled. No follow up, no offer for another day, basically no contact from Mellow at all. Today I called in asking why they cancelled my appointment and didn't reschedule. The person on the line didn't have any clue why my appointment was canceled and told me they couldn't schedule me until a later date, basically 6 weeks out when I was supposed to have my massage the next week. Seeing as Mellow obviously didn't respect my time or the fact that I was on their subscription plan, I decided to cancel everything and just move on to another massage therapist at another massage place. I then spent hours of my workday dealing with calls and text messages from Mellow as they continued to promise to cancel everything and confirm "shortly". Finally, after my work day was over, and 4 hours after the last time they promised a resolution "shortly" I had to call Mellow. The person I spoke with said they sent me a text 3 hours back confirming everything, but that was a lie. I asked for an E- mail confirmation, which they promised to send "shortly". It's been an hour, and you can probably tell from this review that I am still waiting for the confirmation to be sent "shortly". Update: I called again and made it clear that I wasn't hanging up until I was sent a confirmation of cancellation. About 5 minutes after the person in the line told me they sent it, a chintzy e-mail arrived. The message was devoid of any official Mellow letterhead and appeared to be a canned message stating that I had some sort of issue with they way they changed the subscription plan (which I never did) and due to that they were cancelling my membership. At this point, I have no desire to deal with Mellow ever again. If I happen to see any additional charges from Mellow, I am just going to request a chargeback from my CC company. read more

She even gave me some tips on how to stretch and prevent the tightness. The problem I had was with their sales. There was pressure from the person at the front desk to sign up immediately for the next massage and of course I succumbed. Woke up the next day with buyer's remorse. Looked at the booking email for a way to cancel ... there isn't any way to do it digitally. They make you message them. I did and they canceled. My boyfriend gifted me a 2 hour massage at this place. My massage therapist was named Marcus. I have had many massages in my life and this one was by far the best. Marcus wasn't cookie cutter-ing his approach at all. He felt where the knots were and attacked them. It felt amazing while never being painful! I walked out feeling a lot less tense than when I walked in. Just perfect. The room itself was super comfy with music loud enough to drown out any noises from the hallway. My husband was taken in for his massage 20 minutes after the start time. I was told my therapist was finishing up with another client and she would be out soon. She never came out because SHE WAS NEVER THERE! I waited 2 hours for my husband to get a massage while I stared at a god damn door. No one works the front desk except therapists between appointments. Mellow ruined our anniversary. Not to mention a couple came in after, and it was going to happen to them. They tried to convince them to see the one therapist that was available and HOPE the other one would show???? At least they actually told them what was happening so they could make an informed decision on what to do with their night. They ended up leaving. The company then had the audacity to CHARGE me for the service I didn't receive. And they made sure to add a 20% tip to that service. What the actual fuck! That is FRAUD! read more

I usually don't post reviews but I'm very skeptical about how they work memberships here. They were charging me $80 a month and when I called to cancel my membership they said I had to do it via email. Which was fine at first because I get that's how it works sometimes. I sent an email but never heard back from them to confirm. I would have at least liked to have had a confirmation email sent back saying this was done. I called today to check if it was fully cancelled and the guy I spoke to put me hold for a couple minutes then hung up. I called right back and the guy acted as if I never spoke to him. Had to repeat myself and somehow he had my info and said it was cancelled. Not sure if this is accurate especially seeing the other reviews about this issue. I'll be on the lookout this month to see if they will charge me. Also as a woman I didn't feel comfortable with my masseuse. He did what he thought I needed when I told him what I wanted specifically and then somehow found me on Instagram post appointment and asked to follow me. Found this really odd and not professional. The overall experience felt a bit off from the start. There was no warm greeting well really a greeting at all when I arrived, which set the tone. My massage therapist, Lloyd, appeared tired and somewhat disengaged, as if he didn't really want to be there. I walked into my room that had no relaxing scent and an energy drink sitting on the counter. Im assuming Lloyd was drinking it. The massage itself felt unbalanced ( I noticed things he did on one side that he didn't do on the other) and a bit rushed. I also thought it was odd he didn't ask the level of pressure I wanted. To top it off, there was no water offered afterward or care instructions , and when I asked if there was any aftercare advice, the response was a very dry, "Drink water and have good posture." BE WARY TO GIVE MELLOW YOUR BUSINESS. I signed up for a membership with Mellow in Feb 2024. The first couple of months were great. However, in July I was over charged A LOT. Not only was a charged for my normal membership (50 Minutes) but also an 80-minute membership (which I did not sign up for) and a random $193 charge. I tried to call but was told these requests are only handled via email. I emailed about the problem, and Kelly responded to me and refunded the $193 charge but that was it. After I made her aware I did not sign up for the 80-minutes she owned the mistake but would not refund the money. She told me I can still use the extra charge as a credit. After letting her know I do not need the credit, and I would like a refund no response from her. I followed up twice--nothing from Kelly. At this time, if Kelly could rectify the situation, I'd be happy to continue the membership because accidents happen...we are humans. But that is not what happened. Here is the icing on the cake...in August 2024 I have been over charged again. Not only did they charge be $178.80 (for what I do not know) but also an 80-minimum membership after I was reassured that membership had been cancelled and only my 50-minute membership would remain. This company is a mess and I am cxling my membership immediately. read more

I have been wanting to try this place! I had my first session here with Robin for a 50min Swedish massage. She was so sweet and was kind to have me revisit and re-emphasize on areas that I wanted to focus on or avoid. I had an unfortunate big bruise on my bicep which I was disappointed about going into my session because I was worried I wouldn't get the full experience of my massage from having to avoid this area. I'm happy to say that Robin did an excellent job of ensuring I was fully taken care of despite my bruise. She ensured that I was very comfortable and I came out of my appointment feeling really refreshed and wishing I could indulge in this treat more often. Like others have mentioned, there is a Pilates studio next door. I'd imagine some people would not appreciate being able to hear murmurs from sessions happening next door but it didn't bother me personally. Can't wait to schedule my next appointment! read more

I had cancelled my membership twice bc I couldn't find the right masseuse, but the owner wanted to win back my business by offering me a massage on the house from Tommy. What a great move on their part. Tommy is amazing, 10/10, never been done before, amazing, brilliant, professional and all the good things you could say about someone. Yes, they did win back my business and I re-established my monthly membership with them. My only advice is to book Tommy in advance because he's booked out a few months. Let me preface this one star review- prior to this experience, my therapists have met and gone beyond my expectations. (Shoutout Marcus, Markus, Josh, and Maria Thank you all for making my membership worth my two years of loyalty.) I came in today for an appointment that was rescheduled with Tatiana, after my prior therapist of over 8 months left. This appointment was auto rescheduled, no phone call on who my preference of therapist was since my norm would no longer be with the company. I came in and let my therapist know I needed to change my bill date (issue 1) and she stated she didnt know anything about the memberships and we would handle the issue AFTER the appointment. 5 minutes into the appointment, I can hear Tatiana pull out her phone, one hand on my back hardly moving or massaging. I hear the lock button (or volume? which takes photos if the camera app is open on an iPhone, so concerning in my position), and try to let it be thinking maybe it's an emergency. She begins again with two hands, then less than 1 minute later, again. Pulls out phone, a couple clicks, barely any movement. I let it be again. Third time it happens, I ask my therapist (Tatiana) "Do you need to step out and make a phone call or something? Is everything ok?" She responds and says "No, no, sometimes I only use one hand of pressure" - to be fair I knew this was a lie as I heard the click of the phone buttons, and rustling, but just let her know I felt that she was on her phone. She put her phone away and continued with the appointment, but did not focus on the specific areas (shoulders, low back/hips) as I asked. About 60% of my appointment was focused on my legs and feet. Additionally, during my appointment, she did not use a single hot towel through the entire appointment. Didn't ask about any areas to avoid, and pushed on my sacrum as to elongate my spine, ending up with my low back in pretty noticeable pain this evening. When I called to speak with customer service about my experience, I was put on hold multiple times for elongated periods of time, then when answering the rep's question, he responded with "I'm sorry, can you repeat that? I got distracted." Later on that evening, 4+ hours after my customer service rep said he passed my concern to management, I had no call back yet, so I called to confirm. I spoke to the same agent I had originally filed with, and he just reassured me that my concerns were passed on, which is valid, but upsetting it wasn't addressed by them sooner. I'm so so disappointed in the service, both in my session, and when trying to communicate my worries to customer service. Again, prior to today's session I have never had an issue, and have always had an incredible experience, but today was a very disheartening and violating experience. I hope Mellow does better in the future, and the therapists who make their clients feel incredible and listen to needs, succeed so much further beyond this. Massage therapist was a nice guy, but was SO checked out during my massage. He was yawning and coughing (without a mask) nonstop and seemed to be sleepwalking through it. It was robotic, worse than your typical Massage Envy massage. He asked me to repeat information in the intake form he hadn't read, never once asked me to communicate with him about the pressure (too much or little), and didn't even offer water at the end of massage. Today I came in for a CBD massage with Robert. I had a headache and have been feeling fairly run down due to stress and lack of self care. I left the massage feeling amazing! Robert really worked hard, listened to my body and improved my well being. I felt safe and cared for. Robert matched my energy, helped my pain areas and identified issues I didn't realize were affecting me and relieved that too. I am extremely thankful to have him as my therapist- it is abundantly evident that he takes great care in what he does. The space itself smells lovely, has a welcoming and calm ambiance, and is in a location that is easy to find. I suggest getting there just a bit early for parking, as the lot gets full. Yikes! I had such high hopes for this place, only to end up being disappointed. I RARELY give establishments a 1-Star rating, but Mellow Massage deserves this for being highly unorganized, unprofessional, and inconsiderate of people's time. I scheduled a couples massage with two female therapists several months in advance for my birthday weekend in San Diego and chose Mellow Massage after doing research and reading reviews. I then got a text message just days prior to my scheduled appointment stating that one of the female therapists had decided to drop off the schedule, which was inconvenient but understandable "life happens". They told me the 2nd female therapist was still on schedule and asked if I was still interested in keeping the appointment. I said yes, as I wanted to try the experience, and the person I was going with decided to go elsewhere. To double confirm, I called again a day before my appointment to ensure everything was good to go, and I was told that it was. Here I am, the day of my appointment; I arrived 20 minutes early to make sure they had everything they needed, only to be told while waiting that my session would be with a male therapist instead of the female therapist we requested. It's really disappointing to have your scheduled plans changed on you at the last second. It's also frustrating to be told one thing, then arrive and be told something else. It's also messed up to put your employees and customers in an awkward position. The male therapist had no idea I was supposed to have a female therapist due to the multiple errors your scheduling staff made. I'm sure he would have done a great job, but it was not what I asked for, and it probably cost him to lose out on revenue as I kindly refused his service. And, of course, there are no other appointments at this point. I don't see how an establishment like this could mess up so much in every way. What a waste of time during my short visit to San Diego. If you're visiting looking for spa services, do not chance it on this place. And if you do, make sure you have a backup plan in case they cancel on you last minute. Absolutely awesome experience. I went out on a limb and decided to schedule a 90 minute massage with Dorian based on reviews I had seen on Yelp and Google. It was so worth it. As soon as you walk in you feel the vibe of relaxation and calm. Dorian greeted me and got me in a room right away. we went over my concerns and areas of focus. I'm an engineer sitting at a desk all day so I hold a lot of tension in my shoulders which get all scrunched up. Dorian focused on this area where he was able to release a lot of my tension He also taught me many restorative techniques to use at home during the work week to help my shoulders and neck. By the end of the session my shoulders were noticeably more laid back. I ended up booking more sessions before leaving as it was that good.
