These guys don't have a fundamental understanding of short and long fuel trims. They supposedly recheck fuel trims following a job, but when you clear codes it takes some time for fuel trims to get oustide of specified range again. They throw parts until something sticks on the wall. It is actually comical to read mechanic's notes. Tried resolving lean condition/ possible vacuum leak and no success after just about every part that possibly may contribute to unmetered air was replaced. They clear CEL, runs good on test drive, charge card and off you go until 200 miles later fuel trims relearn and get outside range to throw a code... and you are back for same lean condition. ZERO diagnostic deduction skills. Avoid unless you need basic fluid change. read more

After we had our windows tinted, the stars aligned to create a very strange set of issues to occur. First we couldn't open the car door using our remote key fob or touching the door handle. Then the car wouldn't start without actually putting the key into slot. Then the radio started acting strangely, intermittent reception. Using our cell's GPS inside the car failed. Cell phone didn't work inside the car either. Took it to the BMW dealership, where after two days of diagnosing by technicians AND the manager of the shop, with a hefty price tag, nope nothing wrong. It had to be the lead in the tint! Back to the tint shop, they took off the rear window tint flawlessly and nope problem not solved. After a series of a slew of inconveniences, we took it to Nick at #Mellow Motors in Greenbrae. He looked it over inside and out, under and above, finally taking the trunk area apart, and found issues with the passive go control unit, the satellite module, and the antenna signal amplifier. Each of which apparently does its own thing but they work like puzzle pieces all together in order for all the remote accesses to do their thing. Nick was like a terrier that won't let go of your pants leg crossed with a Sherlock Holmes character. He spent hours researching what the issue was, while we were beginning to think hope seemed a bit dim. All we can say is Nick is THE BEST and has our business forever. Reasonably priced and super honest! Plus he's a really nice person, with the patience of Job! No question was ever dismissed. read more

I *really* like this place. They were recommended by multiple friends and I've been going for several years. The first thing Nick said was that they were not cheap, but they were honest, and that sealed the deal for me. I've been in multiple times and I always feel like the work has been done with integrity. They don't speak down to you, they don't try to bamboozle you or waste your time. They seem to take pride in the work that they do, which means that they respect themselves and, in turn, you. The pricing is fair, the parts are never higher than MSRP, the recommendations for what should be done are always reasonable, the turn around time is super fast, and everyone is pretty easy going. Sometimes it's difficult to get a ride, but they always try to fit you in. They also always try to fit you in for an appointment in an emergency situation. One time I had to return a week later for something that was apparently missed and they fixed it for free, though it would've also been reasonable for them to do a partial charge. I wouldn't take my 2011 BMW anywhere else. Even if I have to pick up a few extra shifts at work, they're worth it. She's an old girl now, but they treat her very well and it's much appreciated. We had heard great things about them, so when our car was no longer under warranty (a 7-year, 100,000-mile manufacturer extended warranty), we decided to give them a try. They are so honest, and their service has great value. We brought in our car, which the dealer said had leaky rear shocks that needed to be replaced. Mellow motors took a look at it and said the shocks were NOT leaking and there was nothing else wrong with the car either. That is extremely honest as they could have just concurred with the dealer's diagnosis and replaced the shocks. Liz and Nikolas were really awesome. After moving to Marin in '85 my auto guru for thirty-five years was Marin Auto Science and they were great, but they retired last year and I've been floundering.
