I've been using EA for 20 years and had my most disappointing experience this week. Took my 2013 Outback in and was told it was time for a spark plug change. I agreed, was not told it was a $500 + procedure for labor. Yes, $500+ labor for changing 4 spark plugs. I noticed a leak on the underside of my car recently and had to do an emergency tow to Easy Automotive. I spoke with Sam and he was extremely helpful. He was on-hand when I arrived with the tow truck. The intake was quick and easy and he made detailed notes of everything I said. He assured me that his technicians would investigate quickly. Sure enough he called me the next day and let me know what they found. The issue turned out to be nothing i.e. what I thought was a leak was actually the flow from the AC condensation. Given that no repairs were performed, Sam charged me only half the price for the investigation. Payment was easy over the phone. The other good thing is that Easy Automative has lockers for keys for safe after-hours pickup. Some other shops will leave your keys on the tire or some such, and that always makes me anxious. I brought my 12 year old Toyota here for the first time today - I had taken the car for an oil change at Jiffy lube and they said I needed new breaks -- that I was at 2mm. I didn't think so. Never in a million years have I had an mechanic send me away telling me I didn't need to do anything to the car! Has that ever happened to anyone else? In a world full of rip off auto mechanics (no offense - but come on...you know it's prevalent in this industry), it's so refreshing to find a mechanic that's honest. Such a basic concept but so rare to find. I had accidentally hit the bottom of the car carriage not once, but twice, in two different places in the same day. Then the car started to shake every time I turned it on for a week or two, and then check-engine light came on. Recently it stopped shaking when turned on and check-engine light went off but my husband wanted to get it checked out to be safe. They explained why they think all of this was happening. Two years ago about 20,000 miles ago I brought my car to Easy Automotive for a new timing Belt which they put in and charged more than $1000. for and a few months ago I found my car was loosing power. I took it to Toyota who determined that I needed a new timing belt, so I brought it to an experienced Toyota mechanic who took it apart and found that a bolt had not been tightened when they put in the timing belt, causing my sprocket to be broken, Pullies needed to be replaced and there was damage on my cam shaft from those loose parts banging around. Easy automotive had offered to put in a new timing belt for over $1000. but why would I ever go back there?! I was only living in San Rafael temporarily and was about to take the final drive back home to Los Angeles after a busy summer of commuting back and forth a few times. I realized very last minute that I was due for an oil change and struggled to find somewhere that would take me with only about a day's window. I had called another outfit and the woman who owns the shop was downright terrible and grumpy. I get it, totally my fault for forgetting and I had accepted many 'no's graciously (because it was totally my fault!), but she seemed intent on making me feel like shit. If you do not know about cars these guys will take advantage! Me and my father have spent over a couple of thousand of dollars between all of our cars and these guys only patch the problem. If you change your brakes for example, they only replace pads to be somewhat noticeable when in reality your rotors or drums need to be replaced as well. They lie about replacing parts too. Before we went to a family friend who is a mechanic, my father was told a certain brake part was replaced and when our family friend took a look... it was never replaced. They took 3,000 dollars of my money "trying" to figure out what was going on with my Mass Airflow sensor. I never took a visual look but after one* look I could obviously see that the intake box clip was broken so too much air was getting in. These guys charged me 2.5 hours of labor to reprogram the ECU in response to the sensor. I went twice for this problem! It was our mistake for trusting these guys. You may think that they did a good job because you notice a difference and because the front desk people are nice but they are not completely fixing your cars! I promise if you get something done and go to another mechanic as a reference, they will tell you the same! This has been consistent with all** of our cars. This isn't just one bad experience. They jack up the hours on labor and I get it's a business and all but there is no transparency or honesty here ! read more

I found a used car at a dealership in San Rafael that I fell in love with. However, it was still a used car, and in order to make extra doubly sure it was safe to drive, I had to take it to a mechanic. This used car was going to be my very first car ever, so I had never been to a mechanic before (well, except for my parents', but he was all the way in San Francisco). After looking here on yelp, I decided to give this place a try. I found the car on Thursday, and wanted to get it checked out on Friday. So I called, just a mere half an hour before they were going to close Thursday night. The guy on the other end of the line (darn, I should have gotten his name!) first said they might not have time to see me, but then, he said if I could get it there first thing in the morning Friday, they'd make time to take a look at it. I got there as early as I could, and without missing a beat, they took my car key and drove it into their garage.
