A somewhat small place from what we could judge, just from the front, in downtown Blowing Rock, NC that was quite busy the evening we dropped in. The decorations and the vibe were eclectic and decorous. Our take out service at the front desk of salad and a bottle of wine was handled quickly, patiently, and quite friendly. All went well and was tasty once we got back to our downtown room at an inn. Not apparently as large a space as other Mellow Mushroom locations, but was quite a pleasant place to go to and to be greeted and treated so well. A place to go! read more

After a long day on the slopes, Mellow Mushroom was the perfect place to wind down. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, exactly what you'd want after skiing. Service was great--our waitress was friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed. The pizza itself was solid, exactly what you'd expect from Mellow Mushroom. I ordered the Mighty Meaty with additional mushrooms, and while the flavors were good, one thing stood out: the mushrooms seemed... raw. It honestly felt like the pizza was pre-made, and the mushrooms were tossed on after the fact rather than cooked with the rest of the toppings. Not a dealbreaker, but definitely noticeable. Overall, still a good spot to relax and refuel after skiing, but maybe double-check how your toppings are handled if you're particular about texture! read more

Even though it's a chain, the Blowing Rock Mellow Mushroom is our favorite. So much so that on a recent 4 day stay we ate there twice. And drove home 200 miles with leftovers. After a long drive to Blowing Rock, my family and I needed some lunch asap. We found a mellow mushroom in quaint downtown so we had to stop and get some pizza. Our server was super friendly and service was very fast. We ordered the pretzel bites, the Mighty Meaty pizza, and the Kosmic Karma. All of the food was incredible - the pizzas were baked well, had the perfect amount of toppings, and were just the satisfying fix we needed. The pretzel bites were garlicky, cheesy, and the sauce was so delicious we ended up eating it by itself (when we ran out of pretzel bites). This food was honestly some of the best mellow mushroom food I've had, and I've been to multiple chain locations. Would highly recommend if you're in the Blowing Rock area and craving some good pizza. read more

In town for the weekend. Second time we got Mellow Mushroom while in Blowing Rock on separate trips. Their food is fantastic, we got a pineapple pizza, no regrets. We got take out, but the staff was really cooling serving us waters while we waited, the place is its namesake, mellow. I like the chill and laid back atmosphere. Worth a look, check them out. We usually do not eat at chains but we were in Blowing Rock with our grandson and nothing else interested all of us. I'm not sure of decor for their other locations but this one is rustic with lots of wood and old nic-nacs. We were seated immediately and Paige took our drink order promptly. Our grandson went with the Meatball Appetizer and Garlic Cheese Bread while my wife and I split a small Vegie Pizza. Our food came out in good time and was very good. I'll say I was pleasantly surprised with quality of food. We had eaten at a location in Raleigh before and do not remember enjoying the food as much. Paige checked in with us several times and refilled our drinks. There is one downside to this location. It appears there is only one restroom for male and one for female. My husband and I visited Mellow Mushroom with my brother and his wife while in Blowing Rock for a long weekend. You really can't go wrong with any of their pizzas. While I'm not gluten-free, I'm trying to eat lower carbs, so I did a make-your-own pizza with their gluten-free crust (made elsewhere, and not cauliflower-based) with pesto sauce, artichokes, and roasted tomatoes. They were very generous with their toppings, and I really liked the crispy crust. I'd definitely get this again! My husband's Mighty Meaty was amazing, and I had to try some of the delicious crust. Our server was friendly, and service was very fast. We did go early on a Friday afternoon, so I expect the waits are longer during prime dining hours. We'll definitely return! read more

Stopped by Mellow Mushroom in Blowing Rock this afternoon for a quick bite to eat while hanging out and shopping. Of course I've been to Mellow in several areas but this one just hit differently. We had to coolest waiter. College kid named Connor. Friendly guy, awesome attitude and great recommendations for several items in the menu. My wife absolutely loved him. The kid has a bright future. On to the food. I had never had the Pacific Rim. The pineapple and jalapeño really set it off. My wife had the GF crust on the Mighty Meaty. She said it was outstanding for GF pizza. What a weird experience. This was unlike every other Mellow Mushroom I've been to. It felt like it was 80 degrees inside on a 65 degree and sunny day. We checked into the host stand for dinner - they sat the group of 4 behind us who also checked in after us first. So I went back to the host stand, to the same hostess who we talked to earlier and finally got seated. This location is supposed to have a children's menu(as all other MM's I've been to do), no dice. Just a recommendation for pretzel bites or a small pizza. I got a Caesar with chicken - hands down the wettest salad I've ever received. My wife had the house with chicken and it was fine. The kids had pretzel bites with a beer cheese sauce, it wasn't until we asked if there were other options that they said we could get marinara.... They're kids, what 6 or 8 year old wants a beer cheese sauce for dipping. The QR code for beer was inaccurate with the first 2 beers we asked for being killed the day prior according to the server. All in all, the worst $100+ family dinner I've had in a long time. read more

Service was great especially our waiter who asked our table if the reason we did not want onions was an allergy and offers to prepare the WHOLE meal different. The BEST mellow mushroom I have been to hands down. We took a camping road trip to Boone, north carolina & stopped here on our way back home. Their draft beer menu had so many options including a couple of their own flavors to try. We opted for a new IPA & it was refreshing & unique. We each ordered our own small pizza, and the best part is they still honor "oldies" from past menus, so my boyfriend got the maui pizza, and I got the veggie with pepperoni add on. We have such a great MMBR story. On a Friday night at another restaurant (see my review for Over Yonder) we struck up a conversation with the couple next to us. Through the conversation we found out they opened the first MM outside of Georgia in Boone, NC. A few years later they opened the BR location. We told them we were headed to BR the next day. They said if we were to go by the restaurant to stop in and say hi to their son, who runs that location. We did and he was just a delightful as his parents. We enjoyed our meal greatly (pizza and a sub). Our server was friendly and attentive. Sitting outdoors was great as you are near, but not on, the sidewalk and can people watch. If we're ever back in the area we'd stop here again. Not necessarily because the food and service were good, but because clearly the folks who own and manage this location are great people. read more

Six adults and six children descended upon the Mushroom for lunch. We all enjoyed a variety of items. I had the veggie sandwich with Portobellos, artichokes and cheese. Most of the rest of the group shared pizzas. The Shiitake slice I tasted was deeply flavored with mushroomy goodness. Two of the group enjoyed special peach margaritas and then ordered a second round. I had a sip of the interesting pineapple rum and turmeric cocktail, but remained happy with my sweet tea. Next day reheated pepperoni slices tasted just as good as they had at the restaurant. Staff was efficient and nice to all the kids. There was one error--a Stromboli with only cheese instead of steak arrived at the table. They left the cheese one with us, made the steak one, comped us on both, of course. ELVIS IS GONE. If you are like me and have been to Blowing Rock about 10 years ago to the original location of the Mellow Mushroom, you would remember the life-sized Elvis status that welcomed you as you walk up the stairs. But, in this new building, I learned he was left behind. *sigh* Tangent over. This was out first stop to start our 2020 Christmas in Blowing Rock. It was around 7PM and we were tied and hungry from the trip to get here. They did not have many options for people to wait, but luckily we were able to grab beers from the bar and shelter under their outdoor seating area until we could get a table. Our waitress was very sweet, and the menu is that typical funky Mellow Mushroom style. My party of 5 got the spinach dip to start, which was tasty and helped warm us up. Then we got 3 pizzas: a large half cheese half pepperoni, a large mushroom pizza (white pizza with truffle oil drizzle, a truffle aioli, and a bunch of yummy shrooms all over), and a large house pizza (I think thats what it was called, its basically a "the works" type pie). Everything tasted yummy and made us happy. No complaints. This made for an excellent start to our holiday. Many leftovers were taken, which is nice too. One thing: I saw on here that this place is is fairly priced and good for a travelling budget, but I strongly disagree. This place is NOT wallet friendly. It is super fun and the food is great, but if "budget" is anywhere on your mind this is not the place. read more
