Meatballs were not cooked all the way through and not cooked in the sauce the bun was not toasted and the cheese was just barely melted not browned. A flavorless chewy mess.... My daughter's salad was less than stellar. My son's calzone barely baked crust was still white in most places not browned and the sauce same as my sub was generally lacking in any flavor at all. With limited options at Beech Mountain, I'm glad I found Bullwinkles. My kids and I visited Beech Mountain this past weekend and we wanted something different than typical bar food. Since everyone loves Italian, we were glad to see that Bullwinkels served a variety of pasta dishes. I ended up ordering the meal to go, so I have no comment on the actual establishment. The order consisted of a bowl of chicken noodle soup, fried mushrooms, spaghetti & meatballs, and garlic parmesan chicken wings. The chicken noodle soup was OK. I made the decision to order it because of the cold weather. The rest of the items were killer though. The friend mushrooms were some of the best I've ever had. So good in fact that I ate them all without any dipping sauce. The garlic parmesan wings were fantastic. I liked the fact that the garlic parmesan consisted of actual minced garlic and not powder. They were smothered all over the wings. It was so good, I took all the extra and mixed it into the spaghetti and meatballs. Crust with a thin layer of marinara, inconsistently applied, a tomato slice, and a dime sized dollop of mozz: $25. The menu said basil. No basil. The menu said garlic. No garlic. The menu said fresh mozz slices. If you bite your slice in just the right spot, you get some mozz. The other five bites on that slice? Bread and see-through marinara. This is a good pizza place. It's not very busy which is why we didn't stop at another recommended place. It's pretty quiet but it's a sport bar so there are games galore. The service isn't the best which is why I gave it 4 stars. It's not that it was bad, it just wasn't really there. We waited 3 minutes before being noticed or seen. Note there was only 2 other families eating seated in this large open area. My order was incorrectly made but the waitress was nice about trying to fix it. The pizza was delicious though. My 2 kids ate their whole small pizza. They couldn't get enough. The Greek pizza was delicious and could use a extra bit of sauce so I got it on the side. Overall I would go back. When we first arrived they're 2 entrances with a "plz wait to be seated sign" at the one we entered from, but we were standing and people from the other entrance ended up being sat before us even though we arrived first. Not a big deal but was odd since they seen us but just ignored us until we walked over to the other entrance. When we were sat down our server didn't even ask us what we wanted to drink, she just took our order and handed us waters. We had originally ordered a 12inch meat lovers pizza and a "jumbo" chicken parm sub. When our food arrived the server said the chef decided to make our pizza into 2 smaller ones for "whatever reason" and as she placed the plate down she touched every slice and tried to put them back together to make them look neat. We were completely disgusted and didn't want to eat the pizza at all at that point, but we're not the type to complain so we just picked at it and left the rest. It was $24 for that "pizza" which tasted like frozen oven pizza. We ended up having to share the sub which was good but nothing special. I did think it'll be bigger since it was called jumbo. When we were planning our trip to Beech Mountain over the Thanksgiving break, we knew we were going to eat at the Famous Brick Oven pizzeria. Fairly small restaurant/bar which is tied to a small inn, the setup reminded me of a bed and breakfast. Feels like a family owned restaurant where everyone knows everyone. Service was super fast and very friendly, didnt go more than 5 minutes without someone checking in eventhough the restaurant was pretty full. Pizza was really good, not the best ive ever had, but definitely in the top 10. Food was really fresh, you could tell it was made to order. Three stars for a warm atmosphere with decent Italian eats. On a Friday night, our party of five were the only patrons in attendance. Frankly at first it was awkward walking in to a desolate restaurant, but we were able to sit by the fireplace and turn the TV's up to high volume. Our server was friendly as can be, but toward the end of our meal it took a rather long time to receive our checks. As far as the food goes, it's A-OK. The Chicken Parmesan Sub was loaded with cheese and tender chicken, but the consistency of the bread was off for a classic Italian sandwich. Far too soft to hold it all together. They were out of a few local beers I was eager to try, so I stuck with a domestic bottle. Also, menu items were scarce. Granted, if it's an empty restaurant on a Friday night, it makes sense why they were out of a handful of dishes. For the Beech Mountain community, the cozy environment does the job. We were one of two tables in the place. Let's list the things that went wrong: Hubby ordered a burger well done with lettuce, onions, and mustard. It came out still bleeding, with nothing on it. Daughter ordered mozzarella sticks and two meatballs. Three meatballs came out and were freezing cold. We never got the mozzarella sticks. Other daughter ordered chicken tenders and they were fine, not hot, but at least edible. I ordered chicken Parmesan. It came 10 minutes after the rest of my family got their food. The noodles were drowning in water, and gummy. The chicken was just chicken tenders, covered in marinara, and cheese. Nothing like the Italian breaded chicken the menu touts. We told them right away that the food wasn't right or good, and that we were happy to pay our bill, but we were leaving. We mentioned that we don't like to send our food back, and the waitress said, "you worried we're gonna spit in it?" Wow. They humored us by taking the inedible burger and cold meatballs off, but that was it. Still spent $40 to not eat any of the food. Oh, and we saw a huge dog walk into the side kitchen door from outside. So that seems unsanitary, right?! No owner came to talk to us, the waitress blamed it on the cook, and that was that. The restaurant is pretty empty and doesn't even take reservations. They wouldn't seat us because they "didn't want to cook for so many people" and they close at 8pm. We arrived and there were only 2 families dining when we arrived so not busy at all. We placed our order and it took 40 minutes to get our first few orders, they did not arrive at once. It was then realized that one person didnt have their chicken florentine pasta. The waiter blamed it on the kitchen and he said "one cook thought it was a pizza and the other cook thought it was the pasta" so it was never made - but we suspect the order was not even placed. The waiter stated the kitchen was making it immediately. We saw plates leaving the kitchen and not one of those plates was the missing order. On a very snowy week on beach mountain with a hungry group of 14 we had ordered 10 pizzas to pick up and bring back to the house. It was only 6:30 PM the dining room was half full when we arrived to pick up our pizzas. After waiting for 25 minutes for someone to even ask us what we were there for to eat in the restaurant or to take out we finally got some attention from a little weasel guy who said he was the manager. I proceeded to tell him that we had placed the order over the phone we were here to pick up our pizzas and pay. He went back to the kitchen came back out and said that the other manager or owner had given word to the staff that they were only serving patrons in the restaurant or takeout if they were staying on property at the hotel. So so much for the best pizza in Beech Mountain sign that they have out front we will never return to this place even though we own a house on Beach Mountain. Please note though that we immediately went back out to the vehicle call Sorrento's Banner Elk re-ordered our pizzas drove down the mountain and they were ready within five minutes of our arrival and they were restaurant and bar and second restaurant upstairs were completely packed and we're still able to accommodate our take-out needs.
