We ordered the 2 favorites that the owner mentioned in 1 of the reviews; Pizza Pizzazz & Sweet and Savory to share. Oh my goodness, they were both out of this world!! You wouldn't think much of an unsuspecting grilled cheese shop located in the way back of a side street with speciality stores but the grilled cheese sandwiches they are slinging are so so good, especially on a cold 50° (for a Floridian) day! It hit the spot, my husband had the special"jammin ham" with ham and jam :) and I, the cheesy goodness. They were delightful, simple, fresh. I would certainly recommend. We were walking around downtown Blowing Rock after some Spring hiking and stumbled upon Say Cheese. We were there during opening hours, but found no one to be around. We were disappointed and left to go eat somewhere else. Once we got back home to Charlotte, we realized they were seasonal and missed them by a week or two from their opening for the season. We knew we wanted to come back as their menu sounded so good, plus, I'm a huge grilled cheese fan! Well, we have come back after some hiking, not once, but twice! We were there in September enjoying our meal when we overheard someone asking when they would close for the season. They said at the end of October. So here we are, back again in October before they close one last time! Here is what we got most recently: *Spice is Nice - I'm a huge pimento cheese fan, but this has been my least favorite so far. It's good, but it doesn't wow me like the others do. *Pizza Pizzas - This is SO good! It is probably the cheesiest of the three that I love. I love how they slice this one into four breadstick like pieces to dip in a flavorful tomato sauce. That cheesy crusted bread with the gooey cheesy interior, is a cheese fan's dream! *Brie Baby - Everything about this one, from the brie, provolone, turkey, apples, and fig preserves works so well. This is probably the least gooey cheesiest of the three that I love, but this is one heck of a flavorful sandwich! *Sweet & Savory - It should be no surprise as a peach lover, that this is my favorite. I love the sweet and the spice all mixed in with gooey cheese and a little bit of bacon. Perfection! Please note, this is a small shop, and it gets busy in a mountain tourist town. They are making them fresh, and it takes some time. Be patient, it is well worth the wait! If I can give only one critique - place a sign outside the door with hours of when open for the season and when closed for the season. Service is bad in the area, and we had no clue originally when we were walking around. Otherwise, HIGHLY recommend. We will be back in 2026! :) read more

My husband and I stumbled upon this place today tucked in the back corner of the courtyard filled with unique shops. Although not very hungry we decided the tomato soup would be just right to hold us over until dinner time. OMG! It was delicious!!! I wish we were going to be in town longer so we could try their sandwiches because they looked amazing. What a hidden gem that I hope stays around til our next visit to Blowing Rock. Loved it so much that I made the drive from Asheville two more times (three total in October) before they closed for the season on Oct 31. I will definitely be back in 2024 when they reopen!! The grilled cheese is truly exceptional (try the Brie Mama!) but for me, the real winner is the homemade tomato soup. I get a half-grilled cheese made with brie and a cup of the soup for a perfect lunch. This adorable little place is tucked away in the back of a cute little shopping area. The owners are THE BEST. My husband went to pick up sandwiches for us a few weekends ago from this awesome place. We got some weather that rolled in to the mountains and we were looking for a place we could pick up a pick bite to eat and take back to our mountain lodging. He told me the people were very nice and the wait was relatively short. The sandwiches were amazing (he got three). I got the Brie Baby (Brie, turkey, provolone, apple and fig jam on sour dough). Was amazing! Would definitely try again. Husband got the Brie Mama (Brie bacon onions mozz on sourdough). That was wonderful too but I liked the bit of sweet on mine better). Later we shared a sweet and savory (bacon, peach jalapeño jam (YUM) provolone and smoked Gouda on sourdough. This was my favorite absolutely wonderful! Pro tip- the sandwiches heat up way batter in a skillet with a little olive oil rather than the microwave. The bread has lots of butter on it and it will just get spongy, but came out perfect from the skillet! read more

Another Sister Trip to Blowing Rock has come and gone. It's hard to believe there were shoppes that were new to us. Let's start with SAY CHEESE. This might sound like a photography shop but it's not. It is the BEST gourmet grilled cheese eatery. This is owned by a husband and wife team. She was so sweet and informative. She also said if we wanted to alter an item or order something special, she would do it, if she had the ingredients. We both ordered the Sweet & Savory. It was crisp bacon, peach jalapeño jam, smoked Gouda and provolone all held together with perfectly buttered and grilled sourdough bread. It was perfect golden crispness meets ooey gooey cheese, meets sweet hot jam and bacon. This combination cannot be beat. My sister will challenge that statement because she subbed the peach jalapeño jam for fig jam and it was delicious too. They are to go only but they have a lovely patio area to enjoy your sandwich. Perfect place for a quick lunch! We chatted with the super sweet owners, who explained that they just opened a month ago. It's a little hard to find -- walk to the end of the shops and turn to the right. The setting is lovely with several outdoor shaded tables. They're super dog-friendly: They immediately came out with water and treats for our pup! Now to the food: We got the Spice is Nice and Miso Good along with a cup of tomato soup. I really don't understand the hoopla. Two grilled cheese sandwiches were $25 NOT including tip, which is expected even though there is no table service. All outdoors with luck of the draw on seating. Had to wait about 15 minutes after ordering because of popularity. There was SO much butter on the thin slices of bread that we both felt worse after eating than before. The tomato soup is delicious and can be enjoyed by vegetarians since the cream and parmesan are added after cooking. We came back the next day for four bowls for the cooler to take home. At $3 for an 8 oz bowl, it is a bargain. The two owners are great hosts. Having been captain and chef of yachts in the Caribbean, they recently moved to Boone. We were in town and needed a good spot that we could walk our dogs to so we stopped by Say Cheese. I am so glad we did! The cafe is small counter service with some tables and umbrellas for seating. A perfect place off of the street back in a string of shops. I got the Brie Baby (I think was the name). It was delicious. The apple and fig made the sandwich. My wife got the pimento cheese sandwich and enjoyed it. The dogs were given dog treats, so they were happy, too! We will absolutely be back. read more

This darling little place tucked away behind the shops serves up some of the best grilled cheese we've ever had! We kept ordering more and more as we devoured them. The bread was delicious and there was lots of cheese options and some amazing combinations they had created. Not only was the food great but the owners were just wonderful!
