We had two great dinners here and loved the food! Amber served us both times and went above and beyond in her service. Good home cooking and the pie was amazing. Great prices and a great place that locals were at so you know it is a good spot.

They charged me for a dinner Hamburger steak even though I ordered a Kids Lunch Hamburger Steak.

I have heard about this restaurant for years and finally got to go for our staycation honeymoon. We went to Linville Caverns and Linville Falls this past Saturday and I was so excited to try this place while we were here. Disappointed is an understatement. We arrived for lunch and stood there waiting to be seated for almost 10 minutes. It was very hot inside the restaurant even with the fans running. A girl finally sat us down and then another young girl came over to take our drink order. Then she disappeared for over 20 minutes. I was ready to just throw $2.00 on the table for the tea and leave but then she finally reappeared to take our order. I should have listened to my gut and just left but I had heard such rave reviews about the food, so we stayed. My husband got the special: Chopped pork bbq with fries, coleslaw and hushpuppies. He ordered this specifically for the hushpuppies because he loves them. I saw on the menu that they had hamburger steak but they only had it on the kids menu for $6.25. It came with fries and coleslaw or applesauce. I asked the waitress if I could get that topped with peppers and onions, and with green beans and carrots instead. She said yeah I can do that. The peppers and onions are $2.00 extra which was fine with me. The food came and we started to eat our meals. My husband said they forgot my hushpuppies so we were gonna ask our waitress to bring them but she never came back to our table until over 20 minutes later when we had already finished the rest of our food. She didn't even refill our drinks. The food was pretty good but definitely not what it was hyped up to be. Then my husband paid and we left. When we got home he handed me the receipt to put with our honeymoon keepsakes and to my surprise they charged us $15.50 for a dinner sized hamburger steak when I got the kids plate!!!! Even if they charged me $6.25 for the kids plate, plus the $2.00 for the peppers and onions and $2.00 for each side it would still not be $15.50!!!!! What a rip off. My husband being the nice guy he is even tipped the waitress over 20% even though the service was awful. We will definitely never be back...

A local destination when you're near Linville Falls. Authentic ma and pa restaurant. Home cooking at its finest. Friendly staff. Great pot roast. Inside you can be in 3 counties at once!

Just love this place. The trout is my favorite in the area. Always eat here a couple of times when we are there.

It might have just been the holiday rush, but I always figure "busy means good," so my expectations were high--and The Local didn't disappoint. We started with the nachos; they were delicious, though I do wish they came with a bit more meat. For mains, the burger was outstanding--probably one of the best we've had in the entire area. We also ordered the Brazilian steak, which was cooked perfectly and came with great plantains. The quinoa with tofu was good, too, though it was a little dry and would have been perfect with a sauce. The service really stood out. Our waitress was incredibly attentive and refilled my water at least four times without me asking. Great ambiance and an all-around good experience. Definitely worth the wait!

Ratings- He gave the salmon a seven I give my Burger a nine, and the wings were about a seven(dry rub). That said, sitting at the bar was absolutely a treat... Erin was fantastic. Will 100% return and this is definitely a spot not to be missed. Also fantastic beer selection!!!

The Venue The experience begins long before the first bite. A winding drive through a ranch-like entrance sets a tone of quiet anticipation, leading to a stunning property that feels both secluded and intentional. Valet parking is seamless, and from that first interaction, the service establishes a standard of excellence that carries throughout the evening. The Food The prix fixe menu is a true celebration of farm-to-table cuisine. Each dish is thoughtful, seasonal, and executed with remarkable precision. No two plates felt repetitive; instead, each course revealed a new perspective, a new technique, a new flavor story. We were told the menu evolves constantly with the seasons--aside from the bread, which thankfully remains a constant. And rightly so: it is nothing short of spectacular. While every course impressed, one dish remains unforgettable--the chocolate wasabi ice cream. Initially, we hesitated. Wasabi in a dessert seemed implausible, even risky. Yet our server confidently assured us it was exceptional--and his personal favorite. Trusting his expertise proved rewarding. The result was revelatory: balanced, nuanced, and utterly addictive. So much so that after finishing both desserts, we wished we had ordered a second serving of the chocolate wasabi alone. It was a moment of culinary brilliance we will not soon forget. The Service If the service could be described in one word, it would be excellence. Attentive without intrusion, knowledgeable without pretense. One gentleman, distinguished by his accent and effortless professionalism, stood out as a true asset to the establishment. Service of this caliber elevates the entire experience. Final Thoughts Living five hours away is almost unfortunate--but also an invitation. This meal alone is reason enough to return to the Appalachian Mountains more often. We are grateful to have experienced such a memorable and inspired expression of modern cuisine. Thank you for an evening we will long remember.
