I went there when I was younger and I was scared of the paintings on the wall. Well now I'm not and I go now and it's so good.

We heard it was the best pizza in Gainesville so we had to try it. Nestled downtown on a block of colonial style buildings occupied by various businesses. The atmosphere is welcoming and casual with abundant seating indoors and outdoors. I love the different seating areas, the bar, dining room, booths. We were seated right away and our server Olivia was very friendly and accommodating. She recommended the Holy Shitaki pizza and we added the Mighty Meat & Pacific Rim to complete our order. The flavors of the pizzas were fantastic and the dough delightful. We also enjoyed a chocolate cookie for dessert. My daughter's favorite was the Holy Shitaki and we did regret not getting a large order. We will definitely be back for it. Overall 10 out of 10 recommended. The check in got me some free appetizer bites. Just a word to the wise, don't do this and order a pizza unless you are there with friends. Just too much food. Its a Mellow Mushroom, so the pizza is good. Not exceptional, but always quality pie. The bites were huge, I had spicy beer cheese. Again, passable but not great. Just Gave Mellow another try after visiting another branch in another state and had a terrible review. However, this trip to mellow mushroom was outstanding and very pleasantly surprised at how great the service the ambience and the food was great!!!. My family loves this place. We look forward to eating here many times in the future, as it was our second time visiting this location. I got take out from mellow last night and it was good! Hot and was ready to go when I got there-- I arrived about 40 minutes after placing the order so I don't know how fast they got it out exactly. Picked up a pie on a Friday night. Walked in and the place looked pretty packed. They have vegan options, which is what drew me in. I ordered the Veg Out pizza and added roasted red peppers. It was just alright but I expected more. Expected more toppings. The pizza was a little on the mean side. Paying $2 extra for additional toppings didn't seem worth it at all. Expected more flavor. The pizza was super bland. Maybe having meat on their pizza adds flavor but try veggies were definitely missing some tastiness. They remove the oil and Parmesan from the crust and it was flavorless as well. After taking one bite when I got home, I immediately started to add things to my pizza. I added some garlic powder, Italian seasoning and I ended up adding some more olives to the pizza. If I have to add my own ingredients when I get home, I need a discount for your pizza! So unfortunate because not too many pizza places have vegan options, this was really a buzz kill. I was also expecting more cheese. So when I got home I added my own vegan cheese to it as well because like everything else, it was lacking. Vegan Tempeh Hoagie - The sandwich had overall great flavor. If you're use to the texture of tempeh definitely get this. I added roasted red peppers and black olives, which was a good move. I'd order again because not all hope is lost. My expectations are just lowered. I won't add any extra toppings, I'll use what I have at home. I now know to be prepared to add some seasonings. And I'll ask for them to lightly cook it so I can pop it in the oven after I've added everything to make it great. read more

Ah, the Mellow Mushroom is one we've been to before. Good choice to return for the pizza and vegan salad with Tempeh. We liked the booth, and the service was quick and helpful. We see colorful art created on new foldout menus. It is easy to read what is on the menu, but unfortunately, lunch hour specials have ended. The lovely missus has her ham and pineapple pizza, and the son opted for the Mighty Meat. We also ordered Pretzel Bites with dipping liquid butter and grated parmesan cheese. A request for vegan balsamic and dipping sauce was also on the table for the big plate of salad with Tempeh topping. I wasn't sure what to order and blurted out the Meatball Hoagie. It comes with a pickle and a bag of potato chips. It was a lot of food for sure. The meatballs in my hoagie were sliced up and covered with a strong red thick tomato sauce, and then mozzarella cheese melted on top. The thick sauce was the least pleasant on my palate, but it was good on pizza. The Mellow Mushroom remains on the list when we are visiting Gainesville. read more

Glad to see them make it through the pandemic. I moved about 30 minutes away so coming here is a treat, but glad we decided to make the journey today. We got two pizzas and a salad to go. Pro Tip: get extra esparanza dressing so you can dip the pizza crust! Anyway, we got the Holy Shitake and a pepperoni with extra cheese. The holy shitake is sooo gooood. The aioli, Parmesan, etc. muah. Chef's kiss! As always the crust has a nice chew to it. The ingredients go to the crust and are always very well balanced. The Greek salad is always great. They don't just give you two olives and a bowl of lettuce. All the ingredients are well balanced and they don't skimp on extras. One thing you gotta hand to Mellow Mushroom, they have the most unique restaurants out of any pizza chain when it comes to layout. This Gainesville location is by far the coolest one I've seen. A mix of an old school Victorian home & Irish pub style establishment, it has multiple rooms (outside seating, upstairs area and a grand fireplace). There is a huge parking lot in the back, so no need to stress when you see a tiny entry way from the street. The ONLY reason for my star bump was the smell of the place. Thankful I was damn hungry and LOVE mellow mushroom, otherwise I would've possibly not eaten my food. You'll love the big wooden block of a door for the entryway, all the random mellow mushroom figurines and paintings & the atmosphere here. You are, quite literally, eating inside a house. Our service was on point. The draft selection could use a giddy up (which I thought about a star bump there too bc a place this cool needs some great beers) but this was a work lunch. Add some stouts, it already has an Irish feel :). I've never had bad mellow mushroom pizza (I've been to about 8 different locations in my life) so I'll spare you the menu wording. They have lots of unique specialty pizzas plus calzones. My favorite is either plain cheese or pineapple & jalapeño. Do yourself a favor and get either the lil Greek salad (it ain't so little) or pretzel bites with beer cheese for an pre meal appy. Oh, lucky you, they have a FREE pretzel bites appetizer if you check in on yelp. Oddly, I couldn't hear what type of music they played here ... every mellow seems to play different music. Gainesville, you are lucky. You gotta one of a kind mellow mushroom to eat pizza in. First time at this location and I loved the cute vibe, which we would have missed if it weren't for my Waze app because it inside a big house and does not look like pizza places back home I truly wish I could say I had a great experience here but as soon as we walked up, there was a sign posted about the establishment not being responsible if you catch Covid per Georgia law. I try to take safety measures but when i saw the sign, it concerned me. We were too far away from our destination to get our food to go. My next encounter was with the hostess. We asked if they were very busy and her response was "I don't know I just got here." So we checked the restaurant ourselves ‍ I don't have high expectations for service these days, but just a simple yes no answer would suffice. As for the food....we ordered unsweetened green tea, which was good until we saw a worker put a cleaning bucket right next to the pitcher of tea...so no refills for us! it would be funny if it were not inappropriate. I don't have much to say about our waitress....other than what happened to the southern hospitality?!! I had the veg out with a small Greek salad. It was all good. My friend had the house pizza with a small spinach salad. He said it was good too. We didn't have to wait long to get our food which was cool since we had been traveling. This place not your typical Mellow Mushroom. The location is in downtown Gainesville in a renovated old plantation home. Inside is super funky and service was super nice!! From the street it might be hard to find unless you spot the sign off the road. Parking is in the back. I ordered the all cheese calzone with mushrooms. Super big with a side of tomato sauce. Let me say this calzone was filled to the brim with gooey goodness. It wasn't the hottest but it was still very very good! Kids shared a cheese pizza which came out pipping hot and my husband said he loved his steak calzone with peppers. I really like the Mellow Mushroom pizza chain. I think they have one of the best crusts, and offer unique combinations of pizza ingredients. I was craving some Holy Shiitake Pie and this branch was a short walk from my AirBnb. Normally the crust has the right ratio of crunch, crispiness, and chew, even when I've done takeout at the Columbia branch and driven 15-20 minutes home. This time it was pretty much only chewy, which I was not a fan of. Garlic aioli was...not quite as garlicky. Overall the pizza was good, but just not up to the same standards as other branches I have been to. In terms of COVID precautions, they clearly don't care about the twenty+ people congregating in the waiting area. I arrived on a Friday night around 8pm. Nobody seemed to enforce social distancing and some patrons in the waiting area had no mask on. The hostess did accommodate me by bringing my pizza to me when it was ready as I waited outside (where there were plenty of empty benches!). Looking into the window it did appear they were limiting tables, so that's somewhat encouraging. read more

I've been to several Mellow Mushroom's and I always like this one. It's in an older house and is just so cute and different. If you have been to a Mellow Mushroom then you know what to expect for it's the same here. I really do like the pizza for me me it's got a good crust. Crust can make the pizza and here it makes it. We normally get salad and pizza and you can't go wrong. This location does have a hummus plate that isn't bad if you want a little snack to share with the table before your pie. The pretzels are a hit here too and you often seen many of those going by. Over it is decent place for some pizza pie, salad and maybe a hoggie or calzone. read more
