I had eaten one lonely time at the Mellow Mushroom in Fort Lauderdale before they closed. I thought the pizza was excellent. So, I was excited when I was in Lexington to see this Mellow Mushroom. My Dad likes it too. Anyway, we ordered pretzel bites with cheese, cheese pizza and his wife ordered a calzone. I never really like calzones but the one from here was very sad looking. I don't think she enjoyed it too much. I did not even want to try it. (I always want to try a bite. ) The calzone looked that unappetizing. It looked nothing like other calzones I have seen before. Anyway, the pretzel bites were soft and the cheese dip was good, but very artificial tasting. The pizza was just as good as it was in Ft. Lauderdale. I don't the picture does the pizza justice. We got this food to go, but the restaurant looked very clean. When I come back to visit Dad, I definitely want to get pizza from here again. I am always down for pizza, and having to have it be GF is not easy. After a late concert, it was a great place to still have open to grab someone warm, cheesy pizza. Their ranch is also amazing. I've been to a few Mellow Mushrooms and this one is my new favorite. MM's all have a very distinct, local feel to them. This is one of the more unique MM's. It's got a very 50's nuclear feel about it. It's big and cozy at the same time. Booths on one side and a bigger open space for crowds on the other. It felt very welcoming. I was greeted as I walked through the door and seated super quick. Our waitress was super nice and just the right amount of attentive. We ordered the Pacific Rim pizza and I had a beer from the very nice selection on draught. The pizza was delicious and the beer was cold and refreshing. All in all a great experience! read more

Madelyn did an excellent job of taking care of us tonight at dinner. The pretzels were perfect and the pizza was very fresh and tasty. The only thing that prevented a perfect score was the cleanliness and condition of the wall that we were seated next to. Could not tell if the wall simply needed repainting or a nice cleanse with a MR Clean sponge but none the less it needs to be addressed. We will visit another time. read more

The pizza here is consistent. But tonight we had appetizers and salad. The pretzel bites were good with the beer cheese but the recipe has changed from their earlier days. Hummus is no longer on the menu, and they no longer have $5 apps at happy hour. Tuesdays only now for apps deal. The Greek salad is very tasty with lots of feta atop a bed of mixed greens. The service was slow at times with ordering drinks. Not sure what the theme is here, and neither are the servers. Most Mellow Mushrooms' themes are obvious. This one, not so much. I've asked, but the employees here that I've asked aren't sure. I've had the pizza here a few times, and it's consistent, but the things we loved like happy hour, and $5 car bombs, and hummus are gone. read more

We came here today, on the 4th of July, because it was one of the only places open since it's a holiday. So, naturally it was pretty busy when we walked in. There were many open tables, but the host at the front with a red shirt and red hair told us the wait was for 30 minutes. There were other parties waiting in front of us, but even they could've been seated with all the open tables. I was a little confused honestly, but we decided to go along with it and wait. After watching the host's process of busing tables, he appeared to be overwhelmed and kind of disconnected. He never broke a smile and he went about his every move in a very nonchalant manner. Finally, he called out my husband's name and we were seated. As he sat our table, he apologized for the wait. That gesture goes a long way, so I appreciated it. He redeemed himself there! Now, it was time to eat. Our server was a sweet young lady with a pixie hair cut. She was attentive and kind, with a great smile. Our spinach artichoke dip appetizer came out first and it was DELICIOUS! Both of my kids loved it so much, they finished it all off with a spoon. Next was my husband's Italian hoagie and my youngest son's kids cheese pizza with apples. Then, the House Special pizza came out for my oldest son and I to split. Man, was it good or what! We ordered a medium for us to split and still ended up taking a few slices back home with us. I wish I hadn't walked in here on such a wrong foot with the host, but after he apologized and after all the food came out with excellent service, it was well worth it. read more

This is a really cool restaurant, with a good menu/ beer selection, and a nice atmosphere. We're from MA and are in SC visiting for a wedding, but I would definitely recommend mellow mushroom if you're in the area. We got the wing appetizer, a couple of drinks, and did a BYOP, and all of it was fresh and delicious. Kaley our server, is what truly made our experience 5-stars; the kitchen was very busy and backed up with pizza orders but she took the time to help us pick items that she knew would arrive quickly while we waited for our pizza-which we ended up taking to-go. Kaley was also one of the friendliest and most attentive servers we've ever had, we have found that manners and friendliness are a lot more common in the south but she still blew our expectations out of the water. read more

I'll give the food a 4/5. The pizza was good, just a little too sloppy feeling for me(that's just a preference thing). Wife liked it a lot. The cheese bread appetizer was mediocre. You could do the same with a cheap loaf of bread and a cheese blend in your oven at home. Our service was the high-point. The woman we had always made sure the drinks were topped-off, got us anything we needed, and didn't leave us unattended for long periods of time. Kudos to her. They were very busy when we arrived but our server cleaned a table and sat us very quickly. To start we had the cloud 9 wings, which were cooked perfectly and had so much flavor, we also had the cheesy garlic bread with meatballs as recommended by our server, it was pretty good. We ordered two small pizzas both halved so we could try 4 different flavors. We tried the Mighty Meat Pizza, Holy Shiitake Pie, Wild in Havana and the Funky Q. Chicken. OK, second visit. We drop by here for lunch/early dinner on shopping days so the wife won't have to cook. There were way more people in the restaurant this Saturday than the weekday afternoon we came last time. The large 3 meat pizza is enough for us to have another meal the next day. Service is excellent the staff has been professional and attentive bth visits. This is the location on 378. We decided to have the Pretzel Bites as an appetizer this time. They are good, pizza dough rolled and cut into bite-sized pieces. Baked and salted. Several dipping sauces are available. We tried the Beer Cheese dip. I liked it. The wife was so so. Imagine my surprise when I checked in, and we received a code to get our appetizer free! Yelp is great. The sweet tea is good. Can never go wrong with a Mellow Mushroom pizza. SO many delicious options to choose from. Funky atmosphere but it's fun. Outdoor dining is available as well. Sometimes wait time for food can be miserably long but is usually worth it after the first bite of pizza. I unfortunately have to say the service (at least in my 3-4 visits) is usually pretty poor. Everyone that works here seems to hate their job or has an attitude. Your table rarely gets checked on more than twice during a visit. At the end of the day there aren't many other places I would get pizza from than mellow mushroom. It's definitely worth a sit down. The pizza itself makes up for any other flaw. read more

Today was our first and last visit for several reasons. The only reason there is two stars is for our server who was honestly a survivor considering the lack of support from the rest of the restaurant staff. Now on to why this was a disappointment: 1) It took an 1.5 hours to get our food 2 ) All of the kids orders came out last ( as a parent this is the worst ) 3) Several tables came and left while we waited for our food.. We called days ahead to give them a heads up that we had a party of 16 so they were aware of the group 4) The food order came out wrong 5) When we went to look for the manager to address the lengthy wait for our food he was in his office during service time not helping his staff. His excuse for the poor ticket time was "we are trying to recover from yesterday " 6)he volunteered a reduction on our ticket and we didn't receive it. I feel sorry for the staff to be "lead " by someone who recluses in his office during Sunday lunch and isn't in the kitchen or dining room trying to ensure his guest have a good experience. He let his wait staff and kitchen staff down because he wasn't involved and didn't seem to care. His neglect lead to a poor experience and it was obvious he did not care. So, I'd love to update you on my MM experience. Just had a conversation with the owner, John. No excuses just a frank conversation and thankfully a "How can I make this right?" She had a great personality, knew the beer menu well, and made us feel at home and comfortable. We live closer to the MM dt but drive the extra 20mins away to get the quality (toppings full) food!
