Just wondering: How could a restaurant not understand that a "wedge" salad starts with and includes a wedge of iceberg lettuce, NOT some loose lettuce leaves like you would see in a regular house tossed salad? I don't get it! We have visited MM in more than one city and Owensboro's rates 3 stars as do the rest. Cool name, cool idea, cool interior and cool music but tasteless pizza. If I want to go have a glass of tea and hang with friends then sure, it's cool. If I'm wanting pizza I'll go elsewhere. Service was very slow like they were into the mushrooms or something. We were treated respectfully and our table of four was just about the only people in the place for the first 35-40 minutes then it filled up. We were still waiting for our food. Mellow mushroom has always been a favorite of mine. This was my first time visiting the Owensboro location, I was very pleased to say the least. My partner and I shared some awesome pretzel bites that came with a beer cheese to dip into. They were fresh, hot and oh so delicious. When also shared their pacific rim pizza and might I add I'm not usually one to get pineapple on my pizza but there is something about it with the sweet and the heat from the jalapeños that I really enjoyed. Don't leave Owensboro until you've tried this Pizza! I was visiting family in Owensboro and we were driving by the waterfront and saw the big purple mushroom outside of Mellow Mushroom. We were intrigued so we decided to give it a try. Having grown up in New Haven CT which is known for the best pizza, I consider myself a pizza snob. First, I have to say our initial server, Summer, was super friendly and knowledgeable. It was right at shift change so after she took our order we ended up with another server. She was also fantastic. We all ordered different types of the small personal sized pizzas and we all enjoyed our choices. I ordered the specialty Shitake pizza. The flavors it was like an explosion of flavor in my mouth and the crust was perfect. It wasn't too thick or too thin. Even after I brought it home and re-heated it in the oven it tasted even better. Neat concept, I didn't realize Mellow Mushroom was a franchise until I was driving through Pigeon Forge, TN. The prices here are a little high for the amount of food you get but it is really good. We ordered some wings and pizza, all were as expected but nothing was especially memorable or note worthy. They have a huge party room in the back that would be perfect for just that. I've dined at many a Mellow Mushroom and have always taken them as a decent meal with some that were on the disappointing side. This is the first location that has merited a solid 4* evaluation. I'm low "carbing" it right now so I ordered the meatball app along with wings. The meatballs were cooked perfectly with a nice crispy edge and the wings were cooked without drying them out. First, a disclaimer: I love craft beers. Mellow has a very interesting offering, changing quite often. Servers seem very open to our requests for a taste before ordering. And, they are quite knowledgeable about each beer's characteristics. What surprises me is that I enjoy their pizza. Prior to their opening, we ordered pizza only when the grand-kids are visiting. I found the pizza from the various chains to be at best just OK. And that is just the topping. The crust was almost always less than OK. Both my wife and myself find the Mellow pizza to be very good. This is true for both the crust and the topping. I see that other customers have been unhappy with the time between ordering and being served. We enjoy sitting at the bar and just talking before we order. At home we often are each busy with different things. So, going out is a "together" time. read more

I've noticed over the last few visits the service has been getting slower and slower. This last time the Restaurant was not crowded since it was mid afternoon on a Saturday. We ordered a medium pizza and pretzel bites at 2:08 and still didn't have our pizza by 3:00. Out pizza bits were served around 2:50 but the cheese sauce was cold and the top of the cheese sauce was hard. Several tables that came in approximately 15 minutes later had received their appetizers and pizza before and by 3:00. I didn't receive a soda refill despite several attempts to get the waitress' attention. We final got up to leave and they said our pizza was ready. The manager explained we arrived at the rush which wasn't true since the restaurant wasn't crowded and others who arrived later received had already gotten their pizza. This is the best chain restaurant in downtown Owensboro. At first I was reluctant because being so close to a local pizza place, but MM, blew Fetta out of the water when it came to service. I've never had a bad experience here. Sometimes when you order to go it may take a little longer but they accommodate you orderly and your order is always right. Parking is a little lack luster but that's not their fault. Beer selection is very nice and unfortunate when they run out of what you want but once again, they can't control what people order.
