Decided to drive more then 10 miles to try their pizza. Looked pretty good on the posted photos. Turned that we had a good gut feeling. We liked a lot thin crust "Holly Shiitake Pizza". Went well with Bell's Oberon Ale. Overall they have solid selection of variety beers. Place wasn't crowded, but it appears there was a lot takeout business. Service was good. Mellow mushroom is a solid option for parents with young children. The pizza is fantastic and the atmosphere is easy breezy. The staff is nice to my children and they provided coloring sheets, which is always a hit with kiddos. Used to really like Mellow Mushroom, but 5 days ago we ordered a pizza via Uber Eats. I asked for extra sauce and light cheese. Pizza came with zero sauce and zero cheese. Was terrible, and we threw it out. Instead of just giving them a bad review, I reached out to the store that day and haven't heard back. I get it that people can read a ticket wrong, but to not respond at all is just pour management. With delivery fees we just threw away $46 for a medium pizza. Will never eat there again. read more

First one to open in this area and still needs to figure out their rhythm. The parking is crazy so be patient to find a spot, for there is a lot of movement. Be patient and proceed into the lot with caution. The hostess are really doing a great job of cleaning tables and getting you seated. We only waited about 10 minutes and there were plenty of seats to hang out and wait even though the place was jammed pack. Patient is the key word for the kitchen is struggling with their current popularity of being new to the area. Glad this is not season and most of the crowds are families from the area. Once seated, reviewing the new menu, the server stops by to get our drink orders and advises us that there is a 45 minute wait for the pizzas. Why, I wonder, didn't the hostesses inform us that if we planned on ordering pizza after waiting to be seated we would be looking at another hour before eating dinner?? I now understand why I had been observing so many who finally got seated, and had struggled to get a parking space, were leaving. As we were in no hurry, we decided to hang out and wait for our pizza. We ordered a salad and shared. This killed about 15 minutes. Still had to wait another 35 minutes. When we finally did get it, the dough was under-cooked and needed to be sent back with a passing manager to the kitchen. Did the manager apologize? Nope! Acted as if this was a normal occurrence, that did not sit well with us. The server was actually really nice and didn't to enjoy hanging out waiting for the kitchen. Could it be that their tips were probably not the best since the tables weren't turning as fast as they could be if the kitchen was on point? Felt bad for them all hanging out in front of the kitchen window waiting for food to be ready for pickup. An hour and 40 minutes later we left, with two slices that I planned to cook some more the next day for lunch. One medium pizza was plenty for 2 but I found it to be too expensive. Two beers, one salad and one medium pizza pie cost over $40.00. read more

Mellow Mushroom rocks! Beautiful restaurant with a great bar and plenty of seating (especially for large groups - no reservations so make sure you are prepared). The staff is awesome and the food is fantastic. I've visited many Mellows since 1996 in Atlanta, Denver, Asheville, and Nashville and the Food continues to impress. This is Southern style pizza and while you can ask for thin crust, I feel that the traditional style is the way to go (I'm from NY so I believe I know pizza ;) Anyway, Mellow can make the pizza any way you want it and the combo of specialty pizzas are so creative and absolutely delicious. If you are with friends, they can split the pizza which allows everyone to get what they want. My fav is the Holy Shitake, Pacific Rim, and Cosmic Karma. YUM!! The Hoagies and Soups are pretty darn good too so you don't have to just have pizza. This location is easy to get to as it's right off the bridge from Siesta Key Beach/on S. Tamiami and there is enough parking. A few nights a week, there is FREE Valet parking so you can't beat that either. If you are eating a late lunch - definitely take advantage of the Happy Hour specials as well. This Mellow Mushroom is a destination spot and a fantastic add to Sarasota! read more

Mellow Mushroom. Unfortunately we went there last night. There were 8 of us. Six members of the group had various pizza's and were happy. The pizza did look good. My wife and I made the poor choice of getting a meatball sandwich and baked wings. I have to give Mellow Mushroom the award for the worst meatball sandwich that I have ever tasted. Even my wife stated, this is awful. The meatball was delightfully dark brown, not a normal meatball color, dry, loaded with bread crumbs and tasteless. It's consistency was that of something that had been baked for many days in the sun. The amount of sauce was miniscule to none. My wings were not bad except for the fact that they were almost cold. I now have a large reminder on my calendar that if I ever (hopefully not) go there again then do not order anything but the pizza. read more

A franchise just opened here and as we drove by we noticed there was generally a full lot so we decided to do a take-out order. After all, this place is mostly pizza with some additional items: calzones, hoagies, and salads. First mistake was ordering on a Friday night; second was having an order taker on the phone who couldn't get my phone number right or hear my order; and third was it would be an hour and a half wait for pick-up. Since my wife didn't take out anything for dinner, I was stuck. We arrived and could not find a parking space. I had my wife go in with the cash and with my cell phone which had the order on it in an e-mail. I would try to find a place to park. After some cursing and circling and finding myself forced out of the lot, I circled back and entered the lot again. This time I found a slot and pulled in. I went into the restaurant to tell my wife where I was. She motioned me over. The order was wrong, instead of a large special house pizza with free pretzel bite, they had a medium cheese pizza with an order of chicken wings and pretzel bites. Oh, and the cashier and the manager could not find the code in the e-mail for the free bites. Things finally got straightened out and we were presented with our correct order. The place was packed and you could hear people saying, "An hour wait for a seat for pizza." On the trip home we agreed on one thing, this had better be the best pizza in the world. When we arrived home we both agree that all the included toppings were fresh; and that first bite did say this was a good pizza. My wife thought the crust was a little too doughy for her but it was fine for me. I offered to finish off her second slice if it were that objectionable. It wasn't and she managed to eat the second slice completely. No, this isn't the greatest pizza ever but it is good. We would try another order but, on a weekday, and we would order earlier even if it meant putting the pie in the fridge and reheating it. read more

This was our first time here, and although the atmosphere wasn't what I expected (I thought there would be black and neon lights everywhere with psychedelic decorations, but it looked like a normal restaurant/sports bar with all of the tvs playing sports channels. The atmosphere was nice and quiet, as there were not a lot of people there when we arrived (around 3pm). The place filled up pretty steadily after we arrived (probably because school got out), and the atmosphere remained quaint. My husband and I looked over the menu and saw some very interesting pizzas. Now, I'm pretty picky when it comes to my pizza, and I usually prefer a plain cheese or a cheese pie with black olives and pineapples. But today, I chose the Pacific Rim (similar to Hawaiian), but with jalepeños and sautéed onions. My husband got the Thai Dye pie, which sounded amazing (with the curry chicken and sweet Thai chili sauce. We both agreed that his Thai Dye was the winner by a long shot! I was so glad he let me have a slice all to myself! I only ate one of my slices, and one of his. He ate 2 of his slices, and we had a slice to take home, along with my 3/4 pie. I'm very picky with my pizza dough and sauce, too, so take this review light-heartedly when I say that the crust/dough was not one of my favorites. We ordered 1/2 an order of pretzels and realized that they were just the dough baked in the shape of pretzels, so I was not impressed there, either. They weren't BAD, but I wish they wouldn't have called them pretzels (or described them better in the menu, as I wouldn't have ordered them because I actually eat my pizza crust! (And like I said previously, I wasn't a fan of their dough). Our server was kind and punctual. So, overall, I did not have the experience I expected to have at a mellow mushroom, but I have to admit, that the Thai Dye Pie is the reason why my review went from 3 stars to 4. I would go back, to try some of the other pies (e.g. Buffalo chicken, Funky Q, Maui Wowie, and Holy Shitake) and the dessert next time (they had a "Mary Jane" chewy brownie that sounded amazing, but we were too full to order more! read more

Mellow Mushroom pizza has the ability to heal! I had a sore throat for 3 days, went to MM (where the service, parking, libations, AND menu were fantastic) and ordered a SPECIAL pizza. I left with no more sore throat...I know, a miracle. This is the best pizza I've had in FOREVER and the rest of the menu looks so interesting that it will require further exploration. I love that I can build my own Salad, Sandwich or Pizza because I have food allergies. This is helpful also for people who don't want dried cranberries in their salad! BTW: I have NEVER had a gluten-free crust that could match MMs- no cardboard in this baby. ALSO - whatever their service problems were when they first opened are GONE. Picking up was easy. There is carryout parking. The hostess in charge of carryout was quick and complete. The salad was very good. Very fresh lettuce, olives, grated parmesean, and white onion slices. I pulled off the onions. Although I am not a fan of olives they really complimented the whole salad. I wish I had purchased the large. I had the Karma pizza. The ingredients on it were really good. However, I was not a fan of the crust. It was wet in the middle and the ingredients slid off. I cannot comment on the pepperoni since I did not try it. The interior looked neat and clean. I suspect my MIL would complain about the loud music. If you eat inside be prepared to yell over the music to your tablemates. If I go again, I would only get a large house salad with the vinagarette since it was so tasty. read more
