Been eating Mellow Mushroom pizza and calzones since 1974 in Atlanta. Pretty psyched that one opened here in Sarasota. Finally went there this past weekend. Service was great. Pizza sucked. So sad. Ordered a meatball and garlic, with sausage and pepperoni on one half. Asked that it be cooked well done. Here's a tip Mellow Mushroom...Well done DOES NOT mean burned. We should have sent it back but it took nearly 30 minutes to get it, so we ate a few slices and took the rest home. Ate part of one more slice the next morning and threw the rest in the trash. Garlic was non existent and that's an expensive topping! We only tasted it on one slice. The sausage and hamburger was so well done, it was little bits of charred nothing. There was literally no cheese on the entire pie. My wife assumed it melted and disappeared. I assumed they were scrimping and just didn't put hardly any on it. This was literally the worse pizza I've ever eaten from Mellow Mushroom. Such a HUGE disappointment. I still say if you want really good NY style pizza, go to Valentino on Clark Rd. read more

Decided to try the Mellow Mushroom tonight. I've been wanting to try it for awhile now. We went somewhat early as I was starving. When we arrived the hostess greeted us and seated us immediately. Wasn't long and our server, Tre, came by and took our drink order. He promptly returned with our drinks and asked if we had any questions. I told him we were first timers and asked what he suggested. Tre pointed out his favorite pizza choices and then gave us some time to look over the menu. Hubs already knew he wanted the Cobb salad so it was up to me to figure out what I wanted. I finally decided to take Tre's advice and go for the Holy Shiitake Pie. Once we decided, it didn't take Tre long to come over and take our order. I chose the classic crust over the thin crust pizza. Our food arrived fairly quickly and looked fabulous. Hubs salad was a great size with fresh looking ingredients. My pizza looked wonderful as well. Both dinners tasted every bit as good as they looked. Hubs enjoyed his salad and said he would definitely return for another. My pizza was fabulous and I would definitely go back for another. After two pieces I had to take the rest home. Perfect timing once again Tre came by to see if we needed anything else or if we were ready for our check. I said check please and Tre was right back with the bill. Finally, the ambiance. The decor is simple booths. It's clean and has a few TVs tuned into various sports shows. They do have a bar serving beer, both domestic and craft, wine, specialty drinks and mock tails. It is not a sports bar or a bar atmosphere though. It's more of a pizzeria atmosphere. If you're looking for a specific ambiance I'm not sure this is the place but if you're looking for great food and excellent service this is your place. read more

This place needs organization and proper training. We tried this place Aug 2018 and March 2019. Aug- We got there at 5:10 and ordered calzones and let the worker know that we had to be next door at 6:30. At 5:50 they said that they dropped them and had to remake them. At 6:25, they arrived and we took them to go. We were frustrated we had to rush out of there and we weren't compensated for waiting so long. When we got to our destination, the manager there happened to be there and was mortified that happened to us. After eating we thought we'd eventually give them a try again, since they were very good. Yesterday, we were smart and called ahead at 5, they said an hour, great for us as we knew we'd be there at 6:15 to pick them up. 3 calzones, 2 with Ham and Mushroom, 1 with Mushroom and Onions. Picked them up on time, they were labeled correctly. We got to our destination and realized they put ham in all of them, which our vegetarian could not even eat. Also, they apparently got chintzy with their portions....and they tasted terrible! This place is a joke, I wouldn't recommend this to place to anyone. read more

I have ordered Greek salads 3 times and all were beefy with vegetables, olives, and the fixens'. This time, the salad was missing about a third of the heft it should have and even though my husband and I ordered the same Greek salad, he had no olives. I am utterly disappointed. Please keep the weight consistent. Next time I order I will surely mention my salad was just...sad. It didn't even have enough lettuce, which is the cheapest part. First time trying this new pizza restaurant and I was underwhelmed. First we ordered this pizza over the phone because their website was down. They said this is an issue they experience often. They told us it would be ready in 30 minutes. Not a big deal because it was football Sunday. We arrived 20 minutes early just to see what this restaurant looked like. It sort of reminded me of a retro convenience store with all the bright neon colors. Overall it was very clean, but you could tell if was geared towards children. When we got the pizza home it looked absolutely delicious. My mouth was drooling before I even took the first bite. However when I finally bit in it was ice cold. Part of the pizza experience is the hit melty cheese and I was disappointed. We heated the pizza back up in the oven, but it wasn't the same. For a $28 pizza i expected more. The overall flavor was good, and they did give plenty of toppings on the pizza, but i wish there was more cheese. Because of the lack of cheese the pizza crust was very dry. I enjoyed the crispness of the crust, but it had no flavor to it. Overall the pizza was decent, but for how expensive it was I am not sure that I will be back. read more

Terribly inconsistent! I wish I had taken pictures of each of the pizzas that I've gotten there... I've ordered the same exact thing now six times in three months. The great white. The first time I got that pizza I was completely impressed with how delicious it was, the consistency, the way in which the crust was cooked, how beautiful it looked... It was just appetizing beyond words! Since then I have had two delicious pizzas and three that missed the mark by a lot! One had no onion on it and no basil... Two items listed as toppings. I ordered a pizza for take out one night which was horrible. I reported it the next day. The manager offered me the opportunity to come back and get it remade and have it anytime so I went back the very next day with my daughter we had an incredible pizza but ate it in the restaurant. Since then I've ordered takeout two more times and both times the pizza was completely underwhelming. Last night the basil had been put on before it was cooked that the basil was burned there was almost no onion on it and only two slices of tomato. For a $13+ pizza I expect more. I eat out almost every night. What I'd love to find at the mellow mushroom would be consistency. Then I could order a pizza, knowing what I will get. I have passed this place for several months and finally stopped in. Wonderful experience. I was instantly greeted and the owner came over personally to talk with me, which added a personal touch. The atmosphere is bright, fun, and a little funky. I would recommend this place to anyone! I had the Enlightened Salad with romaine instead of spinach, along with a Viban' Funky Budda lager. So many cool beers! There is a special for lunch which includes a cup of soup so I tried the mushroom soup that was surprisingly fresh and tasty. Finally tried this place opened a few blocks from my home. This place looks like it caters to a younger clientele. I would say the food is ok we ordered the meatball which is 3 meatballs on a skewer with cheese and red sauce they were lukewarm at best almost cold. I had a steak calzone and my wife had a custom pizza. The calzone was hot in places and most of the steak was cold and lukewarm in places. The pizza was order with many toppings and 1.49 was expecting it piled with toppings which it was not there was barely any chicken. The brownie with ice cream was probably the best thing we ate there. They had many table with different chairs but the one we got had the most uncomfortable chair I have sat in no arm rest so I had to sit crossed arm or slouched over the table.
