I used to swear by Melrose Mac until my most recent interaction with them this week. I came in with my laptop screen glitching wanting to find out what was happening. The person who helped me was very rude when I asked questions, saying even though he had seen this issue he couldn't tell me any estimate on what was happening. Fine, left my computer with them and was told I would get a call in 2-3 business days with a status. I decided to call after 2 business days and it's a good thing I did because when I called, they had my computer evaluation ready since the afternoon before and had just not bothered to call me. And now they wasted a day getting it out to Apple for repair. I use my computer for work, so am losing business because of their lack of initiative to call me when they had information. Will definitely not be taking my business to them anymore and would recommend to others that they also do not. read more

I came in for a quick repair for my keyboard... and my phone died on my way to my appointment. When I arrive, I ask the gentleman at the front if they have a spare charger, he directs me to a wireless charger... Unfortunately this charger is not able to charge my phone back up, so I ask if there is another one available, and he responds with a no, claiming that the wireless charger is the only one available. I then proceed to purchase a charger, spending 20 dollars plus the amount that I had to spend for my repair... After plugging the charger into my laptop, my laptop is ready to get repaired and I now do not have an outlet. I asked for an adapter, and another associate just hands me a charger. Although, this was alarming because Jonathan just said that there were no other chargers available... I should've read the reviews regarding the customer service, especially towards those of color. I will not be coming back to this location... Almost everyone was delightful except for him, but due to him the whole experience was just horrid. It's not a welcoming environment. read more

MelroseMac has been very helpful will my iPhone and my Mac. Elijah and Trevor swapped out my broken iPhone for me with no hassle, and friendly faces. They gave me a great price, and transferred everything I needed with ease. As for my Macbook, Ive upgraded many programs and hardware through them. Suggested by Elijah, I got my external hardrive there too and now I never have to worry about losing my important data again. I just wanted to say the solid state hard drive they put in my MacBook Pro is terrific! My computer not only works as fast and good as it did when it was new, but works even faster now! It had really been slowing down lately, and then when I uploaded a new operating system it completely broke. After Melrose Mac said my 2009 MacBook Pro was "OBSOLETE" and they would not service after paying for a diagnostic test I was thrilled to find out that MAChorizon said it was a perfectly good computer and could be repaired for under $350.00. New Airport Card, New Mouse Trackpad and a memory upgrade and this computer rocks. Was even told that they rebuild and sell this computer for $500.00. Best money spent and this is now my new macbook/apple repair shop and will no longer go to Melrose Mac. read more

Worst Apple related service I have ever encountered! I brought in my computer for data retrieval for a broken hard drive. They said it would take maybe 3-5 days. After 2 weeks of calling and leaving messages asking for my computer back they finally called me back and said it was done. They charged me $700 to do this job (just the cost of data retrieval, not the new hard drive) and told me they "got almost everything back" for me. When I got home it seems they had gotten most of my files back - but LITERALLY EVERY PROGRAM WAS GONE! It was terrible. I had gotten free hook-ups of numerous projects from my previous employer (it was a a work computer before). I had FCP Studio, Photoshop, web design programs and tons of video and FX related tools. ALL of it has been deleted from my computer! What good are all my files if I don't have any programs to open them with!? I think this is the worst Mac computer repair shop ever! A complete and total scam/rip-off. Unprofessional, total scam. I don't know how these people sleep at night. Never EVER go there! read more

Apple made an appointment for me to go here to assess my computer, which wouldn't charge. They tried to charge me $75 just to diagnose! I called Apple and they said Apple charges $0 to diagnose and made my appt for an Apple store. Meanwhile, I found 3 other local places that charge anywhere for $0 ( for a potential battery issue) to $45 to assess. This place is a rip off. Don't go here! I dropped my computer off on 6/30/17 to have the hard drive switched out. I even brought the replacement hard drive with me. I was told a price of $75 by Alejandro and told because of the July 4th holiday that my computer would be ready for pick up either on Wednesday July 5th or Thursday July 6th, but that they'd give me a call. By Saturday July 8th I still hadn't heard from them so I called in the morning and the phone just rang. So I left a message in their reception voicemail box asking for a call back on the status of my repair, and in that message I left my full name, my phone number AND my service repair order number. Imagine my surprise when nobody returned my call. So I called again on Monday JULY 10th, and this time I left a message with a lady who answered the phone, and she ASSURED ME that someone would return my call promptly. It's now TUESDAY JULY 11th, and I'm still waiting. WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO TO GET A CALL BACK? I NEED MY COMPUTER!!!!! Unfortunately I don't have the extra $100 it costs for a "Rush job" but this is getting bloody ridiculous. This is, without a doubt, the WORST SERVICE EVER. It was the best possible service and he didn't even charge me a dime. I am definitely only going there in the future. I had a couple of problems / challenges and he fixed them all. Sometimes if you go to a Mac store at the Grove or Beverly Center they can only help you with 1 thing even if it's 3 minutes. Then they move on. This is absolutely the worst business in LA. I took my laptop in and was told they would tell me in a day what the issue/solution was, this was Monday. On Wednesday I call to check in, took me a few hours to get someone on the phone and the girl who answered didn't seem to know what was going on but gave me what she claimed was the issue and solution and said it would be be ready by Friday. On Thursday evening I call to check and the guy has no recollection of what this girl says and tells me they need additional materials and can't guarantee the issue will be fixed. I picked up my laptop the next day and paid the $50 fee, took it to another mac repair store, reanimac, and had a answer within minutes. Picking up my fixed laptop tomorrow and couldn't feel better about the service that I received at reanimac but I cannot believe places like melrose mac are able to stay in business. read more

I am so heavily upset, disturbed and still DISGUSTED with the lack of integrity, coupled with poor communication skills demonstrated to me on Monday, Feb 16, 2015. Wednesday, Feb 11th, A friend and I were referred to you by The great Teddy Riley (who happens to also be her father). He suggested we bring my 17 inch Macbook Pro (a computer used mainly for FB and internet browsing and NEVER DROPPED) there to have the internal hard drive removed, a new one installed and then have all of that data transferred to another external hard drive and/or new computer. We paid for the services of removing the 17 inch's hard drive and installing a new one that day, along with Business Critical/RUSH to have the comp available for pickup Thursday. I was informed that the internal hard drive was going to be "given back to me." So there I was, sitting for almost 30 minutes with my child in arms, waiting, before me asking the service associate how long it takes to remove the hard drive. He then informed me that the hard drive wasn't going to be ready for pickup till the following day and apologized for any miscommunication and misunderstanding after assuming I was just sitting there hanging out. I informed the associate to please hold onto the hard drive that will be removed because I will come back and just have the data transferred when it is available. He said okay. Thursday, I was informed by my friend that she had picked up the computer and has my hard drive and when I get my new computer we will go back to Melrose Mac to have it installed and/or transferred. Monday we met at Melrose Mac to have everything transferred over. We paid for $100 rush along with $75 data transfer. They asked me for my password to the internal hard drive & I wrote it down. I received a few phone calls later the main issue being That I have a failing hard drive with sector damage and that it is $150 dollars to transfer. I questioned them extensively how a working hard drive that worked absolutely fine and I was able to access ALL of my data, is all of a sudden failing and needs what you say data recovery and repair. The associate on the phone told me a story about a road having pot holes to help me understand. When I arrived at the store I had them go through it with me again. However prior to walking into that store I spoke with 3 trusted individuals who work with and on computers very well and was informed that I was being played and that none of that makes any sense. I spoke with Darlington. He looks at the notes and says "hold on, let me talk to my manager." Comes back a few minutes later and says that my manager says its absolutely data recovery and repair but because its on the low end of failing it is only $150 as opposed to it being more. Now as I stood there to make a decision, a gentlemen next to me starts getting loud and arguing that he was told $75 dollars but now all of sudden is being told he needs to pay $150. The manager says to the customer that he was told by 2 associates that they told this customer $150. He said that's bullshit and was getting highly upset yet stood his ground; Using words such as shady, absurd. For over 10 minutes this went down and I watched the whole thing. The manager even said, I can do it for $100 and that's it. The customer was in complete disbelief. Then ALL OF A SUDDEN, the manager appears to scroll down the computer screen and says oh I'm sorry here it is right here $75 and then goes into this bogus story that made no sense about how someone put $50 then wrote something else and how it was already applied. Needless to say, I decided to trust my friends, regardless of the fact that I was scared and didn't trust my tech abilities, to take my hard drive back and buy a dock and see for myself that nothing was wrong with my hard drive. So I did just that. After placing the hard drive into the dock and successfully accessing, dragging & dropping all of the data onto another external hard drive, with no data repair or recovery needed, I INFURIATED! It was clear that the associates at Melrose Mac attempted to take advantage of me, by not only taking my non refundable $100 for rush but then trying to get me to give them double that for a problem that didn't even exist; a bold face lie. Sadly enough they did it either or inclusively because I am a young woman with a baby on my back which possibly appeared to them as naïve and easily able to get over on, that the account was under Teddy Riley and therefore they figured "well there's money to throw away here" or that this complete establishment functions unethically, immorally, without integrity. I for sure now know it to be the latter. I was completely cheated of my money, time and trust with this company and Teddy Riley feels the same way as he was one of the individuals that said to bring my hard drive back home and see for yourself. We came here originally to avoid the long waits at The Grove. All of the people who work there are very friendly and helpful, but we had significant problems between them and ATT to get our account set up, and after many phone calls and e-mails, it's still not right. We also ended up with water damage to one of the phones, and they said it would be hundreds of dollars to fix it. Fortunately, we didn't get it done right then, but decided to check with the Apple store, who checked the phone and found that it wasn't actually water damage at all (Mac didn't even bother to check it, they just wanted the money up front), and the Apple store replaced it for free (it was still under warrantee). Even though I'd love to support a small local business, going forward we'll brave the crowds and stick with the Apple store. read more

I purchased my shiny aluminum 15", 2.66GHtz, 4GB RAM MacBook Pro from Melrose Mac in 2009. It has never given me problems, except for the SuperDrive, which was a weird deal after I put a bad disc in. I purchased AppleCare with it and received a production discount, which was helpful in knocking some $ off the bill. They were very helpful with me then and I felt great. In contrast, the Apple Store is always a terrible experience for me. They'd rather hit on a pretty girl than help some dude with sideburns out, even though he lives and dies by his computer. I don't remember the name of the employee who helped me, but he was excellent. Five months after my AppleCare ran out, I was having some speed issues, so I decided to upgrade to 8GB RAM. I've done this a dozen times in the past with Apples, Toshibas, Dells, Gateways, HPs, Compaqs, you name it. So, I ordered the RAM online, popped open the case, pulled out the old RAM and put in the new RAM. After booting up, I couldn't get it to recognize all 8GB. So I popped it open again and saw that the top RAM chip was not seated properly. So I tried to pull the latches aside and reseat it. Well, I heard a snap and one of the latches broke in half. Shit. I immediately made an appointment with the Genuises at Beverly Center then called our buddies at Stan's Tech Garage. They were nice enough to tell me that the part in question is soldered to the motherboard/logic board and that the best bet is to try to reseat the RAM and tap it in place. Shit. This is getting worse. With increased anxiety, I figured, I should check in with Melrose Mac in the morning and see what they say. We're going into Christmas soon and I have some writing assignments to finish, as well as Christmas cards to make! I call Melrose Mac the next morning to explain my predicament. I must say that even 15 minutes after opening they were not answering the phone. I call back again and they transfer me to Service. They take a minute to figure it out, but I get the same exact answer as Stan's Tech Garage. I ask if I can bring it in and have them reseat the RAM for me. They say sure, bring it in. I hop down and I'm greeted by a woman in the sales area. She asks if I need help. I need service. She points me there. I walk in, say I called earlier and re-explain my situation. They agree to take a look. After about 15 minutes (seems like a long time) they return and say that the RAM wasn't seated all the way (duh, that's why I'm there), but that they got it in there and it's not going anywhere. They booted it up and it recognized the 8GB and worked great. The kicker is that they didn't charge me a dime. My only expense was the gas driving there and feeding the meter. Not bad and they saved me what could have been a $400 mess at the Apple store. Incidentally, the 14" white MacBook I purchased at the Apple store was a total lemon and I had 6-8 months of persistent issues. Not so with Melrose Mac. So, I would say, some of their staff could definitely be more attentive to customers and tone down the attitude (I've seen it with other customers, unfortunately), but I never get any flack and nothing but great service when I come here. They have a ton of metered parking on Melrose and on Curson Ave. Make sure you're hugging the curb when you park on Melrose. It's a very thin lane, so also fold your driver's side mirror in so it doesn't get clipped. read more

After a lot of headaches at the Apple store (in the grove) I called Melrose Mac...the first guy I talked to didn't have all the answers, but unlike the Apple store, they didn't try to just sell me a product and get me in the door-- the first service tech put me in touch w.a more qualified tech in this specific field of expertise (Phil: graphics cards) and within a couple thrift email correspondences and about 30 mins in store, I was in and out w.a brand new upgraded graphics card, for my old model MacPro, that we tested in store...AND they gave me a discount!! Just left the MeloseMac store and charged for $300 ( $100 rush) to make some of my apps work. My main problem ( my computer wouldn't restart) wasn't solved and would take some days more. My experience with them was bad. I had gone to them before and remembered that my husband and I thought they were very rude. That wasn't the issue this time. My computer was freezing, going to high fan etc...... Took it in and told them I thought it could be the logic board. They diagnosed it as the super drive and hard drive. I knew the CD/DVD drive was fine. I had also ran utilities on the disk many times and now problems were found. So, I asked them to check a little more. They then diagnosed it as the hard drive. They replaced it. I got it home and BOOM same exact symptoms. Brought it back and asked them to do some overnight tests to include opening multiple programs etc. They tested for a week and couldn't find any problems although when I brought it in that time it would not start for the check in guy. Again I got it home and BAM same crap. Took it back and asked for a resolution. They then diagnosed it as the logic board. They said my videos helped. (which I never actually sent) $900.00 + wasn't worth it. I agreed and asked for a refund on the drive and they agreed. All seemed good. When I went to pick it up they said they took the drive out for the refund. I WAS PISSED. So I said put it back in and I guess this whole deal cost me $250.00 for nada. When I went to pick it up again they refunded my money but Im not sure that actually will hit as that was from a clerk that didn't know the case. I BOUGHT RAM FOR $35.00 AND INSTALLED IT MYSELF AND THE COMPUTER IS PERFECT. THEY BROKE THE FRAME TO THE COMPUTER AS WELL AND DID NOT TELL ME. THEY SUCK. read more
