Melrose mac is a great place to go shopping for your mac stuff without the crowds, not sure why anyone would go a apple store if you have places like Melrose Mac around they are friendly, nice and very knowledgeable. When it comes to computing stuff I'm no genius so I dropped in to get advice as to why my iPad and my Mac weren't synching through iTunes. Diamond in the service department was eager to help and quickly reinstalled iTunes for me and declared "no charge!" I had been to this location about a year ago and had some issues with customer service, and even thought about writing a poor review. However, I returned recently with several issues and was quite flustered but Nick started working with me right away taken care of each issue one by one and getting me the products I needed. He also gave me information that I needed but would never have known to ask and was extremely patient. The night before I had to deliver a TEDx talk my Mac seized up and I was unable to even advance the slides in my powerpoint. I got the talk done by arriving really early and utilizing someone else's computer. But I still had to get my own Mac working because I needed it for presentations I was scheduled to deliver out of town on Monday -- and it was Saturday afternoon. I went into Melrose Mac and told the guys at the Service Desk my situation. Tomas Chavez listened to me and then went to work. He helped me close a lot of programs that were open. Up til then, I thought that clicking on the red dot was all I needed to do to close something. Tomas patiently explained the (very basic) information I needed. He also performed simple diagnostics. After about 45 minutes, my Mac was working swiftly again. He advised me to back up my main files, just in case, and to bring it in for a formal diagnostic when I get back in to town -- which is what I plan to do. When I asked Tomas what I owed him -- he smiled and said 'nothing'. Tomas Chavez got me back in business and didn't charge me a thing. I found old fashioned small-town service at Melrose Mac in the heart of Hollywood. Tomas made my day. And I would definitely refer anyone to Melrose Mac. I will bring my laptop back in for a diagnostic review and tune up, if needed. But I am back in business for my upcoming presentations. Sign me a VERY happy customer! read more

So-- I left my original review of this place below for posterity. But I've been back 4 times since and every time- sans my very last experience, I've been let down a little bit more. Most of the staff is nice enough-- some have been really great, others couldn't really be bothered to help, let alone smile. After my great experience as noted below, I had to go back to get more help because all of the new gear I purchased had issues... I asked for the manager and he was too busy to see me. So I came back, and again, he was "too busy," even though I could clearly see through the door to the back that he wasn't and probably just didn't want to deal with me again. (and look, I get it-- It's a pain in the ass and I came in with A LOT of phone and computer problems... I had just really hoped to see the person for follow up, but I digress....) Regardless, I'm fine getting help from anyone who can offer it, but EVERY SINGLE PERSON I've seen here has told me to do something different to address the same issues... and none of it has worked. I'd like to think that after spending literally THOUSANDS of dollars on a new laptop and multiple backup hard drives, someone would be able to help me use them. I'm beyond frustrated and so sad. The last guy I saw there this past week was really nice and helpful-- he seemed knowledgable and I felt like what he told me to do made the most sense as it related to the other issues, but I really wish they could offer more on site help rather than just sending people home to deal with issues themselves. Honestly- I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO DO-- that's why I went there in the first place! Also-- In trying to do everything they told me to do, I just opened one of the (fairly expensive) hard drives I purchased from them that supposedly had all of my photos on it and it's empty, so... yeah. I'm pretty bummed. :( I might go back, because honestly, I don't know how else to deal with these issues, but I don't think their service is outstanding as I had originally raved about, unfortunately. I love the Apple store as much as the next guy, but it's always such a sh*t show, so I found myself here when I had a data transfer problem with my new iPhone 6... I love my MacBook Air and my keyboard started typing funky letters. I couldn't get an appointment at the Genius bar for over a week. I called Melrose Mac and they got me in on the same day. They are expensive but they good service. I have had very good experiences at the apple store and so I would highly recommend going to Apple first to see if they'll take care of it for free. (Last time they extended my apple care slightly over six months to cover a crashed hard drive) If that doesn't work out and you live in the neighborhood, Melrose Mac is probably a good second option. read more

I encountered a problem with a failed screen on a Mac Pro after about 18 months of use. My daughter had used Melrose MAC before and highly recommended them and I can see why. This is for the Burbank location--I can't say enough good things about the integrity of the staff. They could have charged me $150 more, but because they didn't have to transfer much data to my new computer and my old external hard drive was shot, they LOWERED original estimates. I just want to Thank Rudy Kleger who works at Melrose Mac for the extremely quick service when I really needed it. It was a Thursday morning and I had a huge project due at work the following day (I am in Advertising so all my files on my computer were crucial). I was working remote from home when I spilled hot coffee all over my laptop. I grabbed it, got in my car and rushed over to Melrose Mac to see if there was anyone who could save the information on my system. Rudy rushed my computer through before any perminant damage could be done to my hard drive. I was able to get all my concepts out to the client on time. If it were not for Rudy, I would not have been able to pull it off. My experience was very positive. Nobody wants to hear anybody say their computer is broken, but these guys did it as nicely as possible. Very honest and friendly technicians. I had a great experience here, but I will say that it's mainly because I didn't have to pay a dime. I have a 2009 MacBook. Old in the computer world. The bottom rubber piece had been slowly bubbling up. I went to an apple store in Glendale who told me I would have to make an appointment to have it looked at and most likely it's not under warranty. I never made the appointment. Months later the rubber piece fell off. I really wanted to make my computer last as long as possible so I did a little research and found out my computer might be under recall for that piece. I didn't want to go to an apple store because I had a feeling they would be incompetent. So I called here. They said to bring it in and I didn't even need an appointment. Basically they did a free diagnostic and took photos of my computer and it WAS under recall! So they ordered my part, installed it and I took home a seemingly brand new computer. I was really happy with the quick service by Joseph. I was also happy he told me that recalls are free diagnostics. read more

So I was an idiot and I downloaded what turned out to be a 3rd party video player on my computer which set off a chain reaction of spam, ads, pop-ups and windows offering to fix my "highly infected computer". This had happened to me before and I thought I could easily fix it...but this one was especially nasty and would not go away. I have always been a Mac guy and when I get a new Apple product I always get the top of the line, spare no expense and ALWAYS get Apple Care coverage. Well, wouldn't you know it this sort of thing isn't covered by Apple Care since it's a software problem. Apple wanted to charge me an additional $150 over the phone to fix my problem. I took my MacBook Pro into George at Melrose Mac. He ran a scan of my computer and fixed the problem in 5 minutes! I asked what I owed him.....he says no charge! Now I agree 5 minutes of work shouldn't account to much but to charge nothing for what Apple deemed to be a $150 fix? My MacBook had screen damage. Brought it to Melrose Mac, who confirmed the issue and sent to Apple on November 6. And on December 11, I finally got my computer back. Obviously, a really long time for a screen repair. In-between, no ownership of the issues by Melrose Mac. I had to always check in re status. At one point, they said Apple had an issue at the repair facility. I accepted this. Then two weeks later, I checked in, and found out my computer was shipped by Apple to a random address. Again, Melrose took no ownership, and told me they had "elevated" my issue with Apple. And then when they gave me the Apple tracking number, I discovered that this "shipment" happened a week before I checked in, again Melrose Mac taking no responsibility for not even tracking my repair. And yes, they made me pay the $99 Apple Care fee when I picked up the computer... telling me to take it up with Apple, after no computer for six weeks. Save yourself the trouble, and go to the Genius Bar. read more

GDRIVE LOSING CONSCIOUSNESS, REVIVED BY MELROSE MAC My MacBook Air accidentally was knocked to the ground with the GDrive. The Mac survived unscathed, I closed the GDrive with painters tape and rushed him into Apple Store in Berkeley, CA. The data was transferred to a new GDrive BUT when I went to open the data some of the files would not open - yeeikes! The Apple store at The Grove suggested I take the ailing drive to Melrose Mac as the data was slowly being diffused and would be no more shortly ( yeeikes!). 1. I called the Burbank and Melrose stores - great customer service 2. I chose the Melrose location because I happen to be in the area and love the store - a techies dream come true and great customer service. 3. Ihab and Elijah worked on my ill GDrive and my pre surgery call was confident, fun and informative - the folks know what they are doing:) 4. When my baby was out of surgery and the data had been successfully transferred over at 100% capacity and recognition I received a friendly call that "all was well with my GDrivel". What you need to know: Melrose Mac will not BS you - they can not promise anything before they dive in ( no one can promise a miracle ) however the service group gives your situation 100% of their attention without patronizing you or making you feel like a doe doe head. Money well spent! Oh and the location is rockin go grab a bite to eat and or say cheers at a local drinking hole after you pay them a visit:) read more

This place is wonderful! Very professional, I was seen for my issue right away, and the turnaround time for getting my phone screen fixed was only a half an hour. The staff was kind and helpful, and even when there were multiple people in line, the staff made sure to compensate by adding staff to the Genius Bar and tending to my needs efficiently. I hate writing negative reviews, but in this case for the sake of other distraught folks who are having problems with their devices, I feel I must speak out. DO NOT GO TO MELROSE MAC. I was having trouble with my computer (it kept eating my storage, and everytime I would delete things to free up space, it would immediately fill up again and say my computer had no storage). I was incredibly frustrated because I couldn't do anything on my computer, and very much needed it for work. I made an appointment at Melrose Mac, went and explained the problem, and then checked my computer in. For four days, they held my computer, never called, never emailed, never sent any notification, and then after four days WE called to check up on the computer and (after wading through 10 minutes of answering machines - you can't just get to a person directly on the phone) they said "oh, your computer is just sitting here, you can pick ti up whenever, nothing is wrong with it, you need to delete more items." ARE YOU SERIOUS? I finally signed up for a far better service, Joint Venture at the Apple store Genius bar, made an appointment in 20 minutes, and an actually knowledgable person came and looked at my computer for literally 3 minutes, quickly identified the issue (my iphone was backing up old software to my hard drive), turned that function off, and my computer freed up 50GB. Wow, so that's what an actual knowledgable techincian looks like. Too bad no such person seems to exist at Melrose Mac. Do not waste your time, what a frustrating joke this place was. read more

This has to be one of the worst places in the world in terms of customer service. In about 4 visit I've never had a pleasant experience. I kept going in hopes of being a bit optimistic, yet every time is a let down. From Sales Associates completely blowing me off, to being ripped off, to having people tell me over the phone that a product is in stock only to show up 10 mins later and have them tell me it's availible at the Burbank location. My hard drive on my Macbook Pro completely crashed and the apple store could't do anything about it. I brought it to Melrose Mac and after about a week they told me they had to sent it to their office in Burbank for them to do tier 2 as they called it. At this point I figured they wouldn't be able to retrieve any of my lost data. I picked it up today and they were almost able to recover everything! All of my pictures, documents, and even my music was recovered. I would definitely recommend everyone to come here if you have a problem with your mac, specifically your hard drive. He smoothly and effectively helped me figure out why my 2005 i-mac was running slow. a few minutes after Josh plugged it in, he had solved the issue. For my hard drive woes, they offered a $50 diagnostic fee (cannot be applied to repairs) then informed me that they could not retrieve my data without further analysis and more money. They were able to label my issue as "Tier 2" and that typical data retrieval (after another diagnostic fee) would run around $429. Hmm, no thanks. If you need shiny Mac gear, go to an Apple store. If you need service beyond what Apple can provide, there's got to be better options out there. read more

I apologize in advance for the negative review, but I would be doing potential MM customers a disservice by not sharing my hideous experience with them. I brought my computer into Melrose Mac on a Friday morning to have it cleaned. It seemed to also have a bad connection on my screen that began the day before. The service guy took my computer and began to point out all the extremely minimal flaws he saw with his naked eye and wrote them down on a paper. He was clearly making a case for my computer needing "lots of work." I gave them 50.00 to "make a diagnosis" but also stated several times that I wanted the computer cleaned. I was informed that they would "be in touch in a day or two with a diagnosis but sometimes it might take up to three days." I did not receive a call that day, the next day nor on the following Monday. I finally reached out to them on Monday late afternoon and was informed that "your computer has not even been looked at yet." On Monday evening, fifteen minutes before their closing, I received a call stating that they were recommending my computer be sent out to Apple for a new keyboard and a new screen display and it would cost me somewhere between $500.00-$600.00. I told them not to send it out and that I would pick it up the next morning. I reiterated that I wanted my computer cleaned and the response was "no problem." On Tuesday morning when I picked up my computer, it had not been cleaned. Several days later, I took my computer to the Apple Store. They told me they would have my computer for 2-3 days and that the most I would be charged would be 3-400. Surprisingly Apple called me the very next day stating that my computer was ready for pick up. When I picked it up tonight, there was no charge. The service to clean it was free and they said the connection issue was also fixed for no cost. My computer looks and feels like a BRAND NEW laptop! Melrose Mac was going to charge me 500.00-600.00 for a service that Apple did for FREE? Goodbye Melrose Mac. You suck! read more

I took my ibook in to melrose mac after i upgraded a gig of memory and it wasn't showing up...i was worried they'd charge me the diagnostic fee to look at it BUT when the lovely wendy and Daniel (i think) were kind enough to take it in the back and check it out, they found i just hadn't pushed in the memory card all the way...They didn't charge me and i was so grateful! I cannot recommend Melrose Mac, I think their service dept is completely inept at best. Their sales ain't so hot either, they've sold my boyfriend at least 2 bad hard drives. I don't know why he keeps going back. I took my laptop in for a liquid spill repair recently. It wasn't the worst spill ever and the computer should have been salvageable, had they done even one thing to help the problem. But they didn't. They charged $100 for a "diagnostic," and said it needed a 48-hr drying-out period. They proceeded to do absolutely nothing. They just sat there and watched the logic board corrode, they didn't mop up or remove any of the liquid. After 24 hours of that 48-hr period, they called and said they had run the diagnostic (without powering on the machine and before their so-called drying-out was done, so I'm not sure how that works) and that it needed to be sent to Mac for the $1400 repair. What an absolute waste of my $100. I took it over to Mac Enthusiasts, who had it up and running, with a new logic board - replaced under warranty, which Melrose Mac didn't even have the brains to attempt - in three days for less than $500. They had found liquid still inside, indicating that Melrose Mac didn't do one single thing to repair the liquid spill they charged me to diagnose. I would not recommend Melrose Mac to anybody, not for sales and especially not for service. read more

I have never brought something to Melrose Mac and had them tell me it was a simple fix. They want $150 to do ANY labor. ANY labor. I'm not saying they are not skilled but $150 to open my computer and do any work is insulting. I was working on a project and my Mac just wouldn't let me into my project folder, this was a huge problem cause it was due in two days. I tried to make an appointment at the Apple Store but they were booked up. So I looked up mac repair on yelp and found Melrose Mac, they didn't look good but I had no other options. Wow, the reviews of this place could not be more misleading, I went to Melrose Mac because I was desperate and I was not looking forward to having to deal with these guys. When I got there at 5ish, the place was super busy. The receptionist still took time to welcome me and ask if I was here for sales or service. She directed me to to the service department which I had to wait in line for 15 min cause it seemed the entire population of Hollywood was there. When it was finally my turn Christian welcomed me up to counter and started to help me with my problem. He explained that they don't really service software issues, but he'd see what he could do. after a few questions and a bit of tinkering, he said he figured it out. Something had gone wrong with folder permissions. He fixed it for me and then showed me how i could fix it in case it happened again. When I got hope I saw an email from Christian in my mail containing an apple support document on the exact issue. I have never received this kind of treatment with computer repair. I am a fan! I will be coming here instead of the Apple store. Ask for Christian when you go here, he really seems to know his stuff and is super friendly. read more

I had to upgrade my macbook pro. I went to melrose Mac because it was on my way to work and I needed the Computer back ASAP. I was helped by Nic. He wasn't just cordial and attentive but also VERY knowledgable about computers and the options they had available for the up grade I was looking for. They said the computer was going to be ready in two days. However, Nic called me that evening. The computer was ready for pic up! I was so pleased with the service, the work they did and how fast they did it! Amazing. I would recommend their services even over the Mac store which already has great customer support. read more

Trevor in the service department was absolutely outstanding. My boyfriend and I were in there last Saturday afternoon to see if they could help with my white Macbook. Trevor was incredibly kind, helpful, and patient with me as I am not that computer savvy lol. He helped me update my computer, cleaned it thoroughly (it looks brand new!) and updated my computers speed. He performed all of that as a courtesy. My boyfriend vowed to only ever go there for future apple problems. It was so nice to have such unexpected and generous customer service, it's how it should be. When my Mac breaks, they fix it. It's convenient. You don't wait in line when you get there. The experience is much more pleasant than when you go to the Apple store. All that being said, I've never compared there pricing to the pricing of another store. So I don't know how much value they add. read more

Went back to Melrose Mac after my iPhone showed an error message. Once again, their service was awesome. There was a little bit of a wait (this was around the holidays) but I gladly sat until they were able to see me. The tech guy (can't remember his name, sorry!) was friendly and helpful, he figured out what was wrong with my iPhone and within an hour he updated it, updated iTunes software on my laptop and sent me on my way with a perfectly functioning phone. Very pleased, they will always be my first stop when I have iPhone or Mac issues. read more
