When the shop was owned by Mel, I could rely on the diagnostics and work. In November, Had an O2 sensor that needed to be replaced (to get tags renewed) and caused my check engine light to stay on. Replace the O2 sensor, light stayed on, diagnosed the intake manifold (much more $$), no change to engine light. Replaced another sensor and everything they could think of, $2000 later on my used car. Engine light stayed on. Decided to run it to DEQ FOR ME (and charged me for the time) so ensure I could get new tags, engine light is still on. In March, car was overheating and leaking coolant, and remnants of a broken zip tie was found in the engine. Took it back in, they assured me that it was the thermostat housing and not having to do with previous work, replaced the Thermostat housing (including the thermostat, all in one), car continued to overheat. Brought it back 3 separate times, for a couple days each time. Discharged stating it was fixed for sure (with paperwork stating same) charged $800. Drove for 5mins, car was overheating again. Mgr said that it's OK for temp to fluctuate as long as no RED. Also to continue to drive it, and send them videos of what is happening because they could not replicate. I know from having the car almost overheat before, that ALMOST overheating and OVERHEATING happens very quickly.continue to drive the car, sent several videos of the car getting 75% of the way up on the gauge, several times. Sent messages. Left voicemails. No resolution. Car has never been the same. Engine light still on. $2800 down on the car without any issues actually fixed. I moved a way for a short time and was forced to deal with new mechanics on my classic rigs. "Snobs and ignoramists" was all I could find. "If it's over 20 years old, our computer can't tell us what the problem is". Are you kidding me?!!!!!! I'm so glad to be back and see Mel's Auto Repair is still here! It started with a check engine light, so I booked an appointment at a Tonkin dealership for diagnosis and repair. The appointment wait time was 2 weeks and when I arrived they told me it would be 5-7 days before they would look at the car, and it had to be in their lot during that time. That was unacceptable so after asking around I chose Mel's. I had an immediate answer to my check engine light (it should not prevent me from driving the vehicle) and they scheduled a service date. On that date the problem was determined and a part was ordered. However, the manufacture had switched suppliers, so a special connector was needed and that was ordered. With all parts on hand the repair was completed however one of the parts proved to be defective which meant another replacement. Through this entire lengthily process, Mel was as cordial and explained in great detail the problems being encountered. The type of service he provides is becoming very rare these days! I went to the Gladstone Toyota today for a software update recall. I was told my front and back struts needed to be replaced and was quoted for $1600. Drove to Mel's, Mel and Wade looked at them and said they are fine. Even one day when they do need to be replaced, it would be $800-900. Love this honest auto repair shop, you don't see them much anymore. Call me old school, how do you go home and sleep when you recommend unnecessary repairs and waste people hard making money? Check engine light starting flashing on the way home from the airport, frustrated I had to stop with my kids in the car. My immediate reaction was this was going to be expensive. Ok I thought they did a great job, Dec 2021. I later found out several things went wrong. I originally had a timing belt blow apart did quite a bit of damage. They replaced spark plugs, I had asked for tune up. I also had to have an exhaust manifold replaced due to timing belt. About 7 months later some hoopey car was falling apart in the freeway ahead of me, I could not avoid all the parts and it tore up my under carriage. This is now July 2022. I had been hearing exhaust manifold noise and was due to take it back to Mel's. Well it was cracked so got another new one after the damage done. I asked Mr Auto who now had my car to do a time up. My car was still not running right. I was told the wrong spark plugs were put in car and they were right . I looked up what Mels put in and they did not put in the correct plugs. waited a month to get my repair scheduled "because it's a big job and will take all day". the day comes, bring the car in at 8am, as requested ... because we ' gotta get an early start, the job is so big, it's in the book for 5.5 hrs' finally get there and 'no, we didn't talk about this, there is no way we can't get this done in a day ... it's too big a job. what if a bolt breaks or we can't get the gasket' mind you it's a 3.4L toyota engine - beyond ubiquitous. of course Mel decisively says that I 'won't be a satisfied customer because this will take longer than expected'. All of this is happening after I get them all the info, am standing outside waiting for my ride-share. that is 3 mins away. cancel ride-share. yes. $5 cancellation fee. do you accept. yes. wow.... then he offers his hand to shake as if everything is all good. we good? no man, we are not good. that was massive waste of time. to think I decided to goto this place based on the reviews below. ha. think again. read more

I have found my new repair shop. Had it towed in. Mel answered the phone every time i called. He and Wade had it fixed the very next day. Good communication. Did not push or sell me anything extra. Just got the job done for a reasonable price. The kicker? Mel called me at closing to see if I still wanted to pick it up today. I was stuck in traffic, so he offered to stay open until I got there. It's the small things. The real customer service that I appreciate. When I got there, my ride mentioned something about bringing her car in to get her car checked out since her check engine light was on. Wade graciously said, let's just check it right now to make sure it's not a big issue. He came out to check it in the parking lot after 5:30, after staying open late for us, and was able to explain the codes, and make an appointment to bring it back in. I couldn't be more satisfied. Mel and Wade are complete professionals. I used to take my car to less professional mechanics because I thought it was cheaper but ended up costing me more from repeat repairs of the same issue. Since my sister recommended me to Mel's I've been extremely satisfied. First I was surprised that their prices were about the same as the shady mechanics but the work, well I haven't had an issue return yet. Once they fix it it's fixed. I use Mel's for all my oil changes and every time Wade completely looks over my vehicle to find any issues that could be a problem. Seldomly finds anything unlike Jiffy Lube that always want to sell me an air filter but when he does it saves me money and time by preventing a larger future repair. After going to several other mechanic shops and being on the phone all day I eventually found Mel . I wasn't confident with any other places in the area they didn't seem to even care really . Mel was very easy going and extremely knowledgeable about his craft . I told him what was going on with my Benz and what I thought was the issue . I had a great experience at Mel's and just wanted to give them a big thank you! I was getting something out of my trunk and when I slammed it shut, one of the rear light assemblies just popped out! Luckily it wasn't damaged but I had no idea where to go to get it fixed. My husband recommended I try Mel's. I stopped by the shop late afternoon, they took me right in and were so kind. Mel entertained me while Wade replaced the missing nuts, checked the other light and tested both to make sure they were working. Really nice guys.
